37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 01/11/2022

I’ve taken the vehicle back to dealership several times and they say nothing is wrong with it. The steering wheel vibrates at high speeds or when backing into parking spaces. Loud noise when backing into parking spaces, possibly brakes or steering. Engines unusually loud when starting up. Windshield just spilt all the way across when car was sitting for 5 days in August, not from rocks on road. Vehicle has unusually low mileage of 16-18 mpg city & hyw driving. Brakes are noisy- I thought they were crack when I purchased last year. These happened on multiple dates of which your system doesn’t allow me to add.

39 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 09/15/2021

On 9/8/2021, niello Volvo sacramento service replaced my fuel pressure sensor and fuel line. On 9/15/2021, my engine caught fire and the car was deemed a total loss by insurance company. I drove from my home in plumas lake 95961 to marysville approximately 10 miles away at 9:50 am, at approximately 10:00-10:05 as I was nearing the end of my trip, a trouble light came on that said “engine performance decreased” and the picture of a turtle appeared on my dash screen, shortly after that another light appeared that said “battery not charging”, I parked my car in the save mart parking lot and exited and noticed some smoke coming out of the hood, it was light at first but increased quickly so I called 911 immediately. As I was on the phone with 911, flames began shooting out from under the hood, so I grabbed my fire extinguisher out of the back of my car and tried to put the fire out, but extinguisher was too small, a man from the grocery store brought out a bigger extinguisher, but fire continued to grow, by now the fire dept. Arrived, opened the hood and after about 10 minutes extinguished the fire with a hose. I contacted niello Volvo but they seemed disinterested in getting involved and after a second call to them, the service manager [xxx] hung up on me. I could have been killed! if my elderly husband or mother had been in the car with me, it would have been difficult to get them out! I want to know what caused the fire! faulty electrical system, faulty fuel sensor/fuel line which had just been installed 7 days prior? faulty engine? there are still many 2015 Volvo Xc60’s on the road and I fear for anyone driving one if there is a problem in need of recall. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

40 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 08/11/2021

This car has excessive oil consumption and burns oil because the piston rings are faulty. Eventually can cause the engine to stop working and put lives on the road in danger. This was proven in a class action lawsuit against Volvo and they extended the warranty to 8 years or 100,000 miles however some cars are over the 100,000 miles and are still needing to add oil every 2-3 weeks. The low oil light started coming on about 80,000 miles. Had it in for repair but the dealership didn't know what was wrong with it.

41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 01/04/2021

The contact owns a 2016 Volvo Xc60. The contact stated that while driving at 25 mph, the oil warning light illuminated. The contact stated that she refilled the oil when she arrived at her residence. The contact noticed that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of oil and she was refilling the oil each 4-6 weeks. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the piston rings needed to be replaced and that the repair would be at her expense. The contact stated that the vehicle was making abnormal sounds while driving. The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 08/30/2020

Pulling up to a traffic light at about two miles per hour, the engine cut out (as it normally does for start/stop). However, when engine cut, all power systems turned off. The screens went black and no buttons were responsive - the ignition button did not restart the car and the hazard lights would not activate. Power locks did not work. Three minutes later, the car screens turned back on and the engine restarted. I do not recall pushing the start button before it did this, so perhaps the button message was "queued" and waiting when power returned. The battery seems to have adequate voltage under load and the terminals are fastened tightly, so I do not believe this to be a battery-related issue.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 05/31/2020

This Volvo experiences "sudden unintended acceleration" periodically (estimated at 2 times per year) since it was new. This unintended acceleration manifests itself generally when coming to a stop (red light, drive thru restaurant, parking lot) but has happened once on the highway. The engine races to full throttle and luckily, for the instances so far, we have been able to control the car with the brakes. The acceleration lasts for roughly 1-2 minutes. The last time it happened (may 31, 2020), I shifted the car into neutral, and the engine raced to 8,000 rpms, held there for a few seconds, and then returned to normal idle speed. I have taken the to the dealer (quantrell Volvo, lexington ky) to have this issue resolved numerous times with no success. At one point, the Volvo engineering team suggested a new transmission to fix the issue, which was done at Volvo's expense by this dealer, and still the problem continues. It was in for service most recently in September (9/25-9/29) 2020. The dealer could not find a "code" to explain the fault and stated they therefore could not do anything further to fix the problem. I then escalated the issue to Volvo customer care and was given the same response. I can upload documents from the dealer if needed, any help you can provide in getting this car fixed would be greatly appreciated.

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 05/08/2020

My customer was headed northbound on hwy 63, had just passed over I-70 when the customer heard a poof and smoke started bellowing from the hood and the tailpipe. They pulled over on the side of the road immediately, but by then smoke was coming out of the vents as well. They got out of the car, and called 911 because of smoke started to thicken. About one minute later, flames started coming out from underneath the right (pass) side of the car and within 25-30 seconds, flames were coming from up under the hood as well. The fire department got there and put out the fire. The vehicle was towed back to the dealership from there. The car was in perfect condition. It passed inspection at the Honda dealership. We don't know what happened or what went wrong. We did some research and there was a recall number 09v477000; fuel system. This recall was supposedly fixed by Volvo. We contacted Volvo and they said that there is nothing that they could do. However, in carfax there is no record of the recall or that the recall was fixed.

52 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 08/06/2013

I was driving on interstate 84 in connecticut when the low oil light came on. The car, which is dealer serviced, under warranty, needed almost 2 quarts of oil. I added the oil and brought it to the servicing dealer, who told me that the car needed new rings, and that they would also replace the pistons. They told me that this was a defect for this car model, and had been corrected in later models. Ii was unaware that this car had engine issues - there have been no notices or recalls from Volvo. The dealer has replaced the pistons and rings, but currently is unwilling to extend the engine warranty. I was told that it was "unlikely" that I would have any problems at 70,000 or 80,000 miles by the service manager.

53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 04/07/2012

"oil low" message appeared on lcd display inside speedometer dial. Turned off car, waited for oil to drain (10 minutes), and checked dipstick. Bone dry. Had to add 3 quarts of oil (added what was on sticker in windshield) to reach the acceptable midpoint on the dipstick. Car should not be using half of the oil in the engine between services. Problem has not popped up before this. As a car may be 1 quart low at time of servicing, being half empty is unacceptable. Car has had regular maintenance since built-to-order new in 2010. Volvo Xc60 t6 awd.

The failure mileage was 16,950 and the current mileage was 17,000.

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 12/12/2011

The problem of the engine was first reported to culver city Volvo on 12/12/2011. On 10/30/2012 the vehicle was sent back the 2nd time for the same problem. Again, on 12/05/2012, the vehicle was sent back the 3rd time for the same problem. I went back to culver city Volvo to pick up the vehicle on 12/24/2012. As soon as I started the engine at the dealer's parking lot, two messages came on dashboard. One was "engine system service required" and the other one was "transmission system service required". The service department took the vechile back. One 12/27/2012, I went back to pick up the vehicle. The same message came on dashboard. Today is 01/05/2013 and I have not received any phone call from culver city Volvo. Culver city Volvo is still trying to fix the problem.
