1 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2013 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 03/15/2019

My vehicle's air bag light is on. My dash message passenger airbag off service urgent. I took it to koons Volvo of owings mills, inc to be serviced. I was told that the passenger occupancy weight sensor has stopped working and need to be replaced. The service technician could not tell me why it would have stopped working. He just said it could just happen. I asked the service technician what does it do and he said that it weighs passengers for the correct pressure of the airbag in case it is deployed. He also said that my complete airbag system will not work without it which means that the driver's side as well as the side airbags will not deploy in case of an accident. The cost of this repair is $2,249 which is extremely expensive. This appears to be more of a defect and not wear and tear. Volvo advertises it's safety features which attracted me to purchase one. They don't tell you that the safety features may not work when you need them. I was told by another service station in alexandria, va that this is a common repair that he performs on Volvos. I saw the airbag light one morning when I turned on the car after it had been sitting overnight. No one was in the passenger seat. It was not there the night before.

Failure Date: 11/01/2018

Tl the contact owned a 2017 Volvo Xc90. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle suddenly shut off and caused the steering wheel to seize and the electronic gauges to shut off. The driver lost control of the steering and crashed into a pond. The front end was severely damaged and the vehicle was deemed destroyed, but the air bags did not deploy. There were no injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer (weaver brothers Volvo, 4409 capital blvd, raleigh, nc) were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 10,000.

3 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2013 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 06/15/2018

I am the second owner of this car the other owner was in the family and the airbags have never been deployed. A couple months ago the srs airbag service urgent light came on and we took it to the dealership to have it looked at. They said that the airbags needed to be replaced. Being that this is such a crucial component that should be working if it has never been used I wanted to alert NHTSA and see if it were a more widespread concern. I appreciate you looking into this. There were no events leading up to the airbag light and that is the reason for my concern.

4 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2004 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 12/16/2010

My husband had a 55mph crash in my 2004 Volvo Xc90 on the freeway. He rear ended another driver at top speed, was spun around several times on the freeway and ended up facing traffic. The passenger side airbag deployed, but the driver's side did not. The inspector from my insurance company said there was not reason the driver's side airbag did not deploy at that speed, other than a defect, as far as he was concerned. I contacted Volvo and was basically given the run around about how the airbag should not have deployed and that this was perfectly okay. I would like an investigation especially since my cem system was not operating properly prior to the accident. I had airbag warning, brake failure, etc. , and the dealer told me a year ago the cem system was not working properly and needed to be repaired at $1300, which I was not willing to pay.

5 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2003 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

The srs light came on, which appears to be a common problem with my model. The dealer said they need to replace the entire srs console for $1000. They cannot guarantee it, but it's possible my airbags will not deploy if they do not replace this.
