I was backing out of my drive. It was an early morning and it was very foggy. The windows were foggy and not totally defrosted yet. My camera wasnt showing everything around but we were having constant upgrade issues during this week of October 5th through the 10th. My automatic braking never activated even though it was turned on. I ran into a cattle feeder overhang. I never seen it in my camera view. The windows seem to have a really bad fog to them. My back driver tail-light got broken and back driver panel got dented and scratched. There are probably more things involved as its in the shop as I am typing this out. The adjustor had to send another estimate to my insurance company for more damages done. I haven't gotten word back from them yet. But, it's over $3,000. All of the issues seemed to resolve after the update was finished after that week. My automatic braking worked after that.
Two major incidents occurred: 1)my fiance and I were driving on the highway with our four children at a speed of >50 mph. There were no cars around us (front or sides) and no debris in the road, and the automatic emergency braking system engaged and brought the car to an abrupt stop in the middle of the highway. It happened a second time shortly thereafter at a speed around 30 mph, again without any obstructions. I'm happy to provide the car for inspection upon request unless the manufacturer takes responsibility for this very serious malfunction and grants us a manufacturer buy-back. Stopping abruptly for no reason on the highway could have caused someone to rear-end us at a high speed and could have caused a very serious or fatal crash. I have spoken to the dealer multiple times (and I filed a complaint with Volvo customer care several weeks ago) and they say they'll try to "fix" it, but it's not a problem that we can ever risk having happen again. It is being inspected at the dealership now. There was no warning that this would occur. 2) there is a feature called "auto hold" whereby the driver can take their foot off the brake while sitting at a stop light and the car doesn't move again until the driver puts their foot on the accelerator. I was sitting at a stop light, using the auto hold feature, and even though I didn't put my foot on the accelerator, auto hold disengaged and the car started moving and hit the person in front of me. The malfunction of both the "auto hold" feature and the crash avoidance feature caused me to get in an auto accident. The dealer has the car and they're waiting for Volvo customer care to give them instructions about what to do. There were no warnings (like what normally would happen if the car is approaching something it thinks it might hit).
I purchased this vehicle new in October of 2023. From day 1 I have had issues where the backup camera would display an image and then turn off while backing up. I brought the car in multiple times for this before the recall was issued and then again when the recall was issued. The recall work has been completed and oddly the issue went away for a few days and then returned. I have since brought it back in and they performed a full software restore at the dealer. The problem with the camera has not been rectified. I added to the complaint emergency breaking because this car also has a habit of emergency braking when pulling into or out of parking spaces with no obstacles near. This issue, hasn't really been investigated much as it is much more intermittent and difficult to duplicate.

3 weeks ago we had the transmission module fail on our vehicle while it was being driven. According to Volvo forums, this is a multi-model year, multi vehicle issue for those with sunroofs. Accrding to the dealer in our case, the seal failed, and water runs into the compartment where the transmission module is located, causing it to fail. We had it happen twice, and both times on the highway, with the engine running ragged causing it ot accelerate and then quickly decelerate. There were 3 warnings that popped up-"gear lever locked," "transmission acceleration performance reduced," and "parking brake unaavialble. " it happened twice and and was towed to the dealer both times, as it was not drivable-once the vehicle was parked it would no longer move out of park. The first time the diagnosis and module reset was comped by the dealer (borton Volvo, golden valley, mn) and the second time, the transmission module was "dried out," and the sunroof seal was replaced, which was just under $700. It is available to be inspected if necessary. The vehicle was a hazard to others on the road while it was "acting up. " dealer was familia with the issue. No inspection was done other than by the dealer warning lamps as outlined above.

The automatic reverse braking feature is far too sensitive and causes headache-inducing, jarring, sudden extreme braking without any warning. It’s so aggressive that I believed I actually struck something each time. There’s no way to release the locked brakes unless you put it in park and then in drive. Extreme safety concern! this occurs when backing into or out of the garage using the mirrors, backing up to a 6 inch parking curb, or any bushes/brush that is near the bumper. It is wildly inaccurate and is not useful for people who actually use their mirrors to park.
The brakes did not work when the automatic emergency braking turned on. When I pressed the brakes all the way down, the brakes didn’t respond because it was still in automatic mode. I was able to swerve into the next lane to not hit the vehicle in front of me. The automatic emergency braking also turned on when I was reversing from a parked location when there was a vehicle waiting to park behind me and my vehicle stoped and didn’t come off of brake/park mode. I had to turn my vehicle on and off again to get it to move again. I have taken my vehicle in twice for shaking. My back rotors were replaced 2 weeks ago but my vehicle still shakes. This car only has around 21,000 miles to have so many issues already with rotors and shaking.

I've owned several vehicles in my life. The Volvo xc 90 advanced "safety features" have caused more near accidents in the first 10 months of owning this vehicle than anything I have ever experienced. The collission prevention and auto-braking features cannot be disabled on this car and they are defective and extremely dangerous. On sevreal occasions (four in the last two weeks alone) the auto-braking has engage when performing simple task and common suburban style shopping center parking lots. Backing into spots (which is proven to be safer -- my employer used to require it) the auto braking slams onthe brakes and tightens the seatbelts. I am not exagerrating I've almost had a heart attack it's so jarring. Once I performed a u-turn (was perfectly legal) but due to something in the road had to back up to do a three point turn -- the auto braking engaged. I was stuck without the ability to move quickly and was almost hit. In short, many false positives from this sytem that cause more harm than good. It has prevented zero accidents and has caused me to almost get into an accident or scared the living you know what out of me and my passengers all but too many times. In adidtion to these issues, the infortainment system (android based) has hung on sevreal ocassions. In those instances I cannot control the air conditioning, defroster, etc. Lastly, the last, the lane departure feature is similarly flawed to the auto braking features. Correcting or warning when there is nothing. These features that are supposed to help are in fact making my driving experience more dangerous. It has happened so many times, I'm considering involing an attorney. I have warned friends and family of the dangers of Volvo's flawed technology platform and "advanced safety features. " I also shared thsi feedback withthe dealer who offered a simple "wipe and restore" of the infortainment system. At the core, the system is broken and flawed.
Since purchasing this vehicle in October 2023 I have had multiple issues with the fuel door not opening, the turn indicator light not working, the backup cmera and sensors continue to engage the rear brake intervention system when there's nothing behind the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2016 Volvo Xc90 ii. The contact stated while driving at 65 mph with his four children sitting in the rear of the vehicle, the parking brake engaged independently and the vehicle stopped abruptly. The contact stated that the seat belts engaged to the point of choking himself and the passengers to death. Additionally, the steering wheel lost power steering. The contact stated that the vehicle resumed driving independently and he was able to drive to his residence. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle would stall while driving. The message "loss of power" was displayed. The contact was able able to restart the vehicle after several attempts and would occasionally star when jumpstarted. The contact stated the vehicle would usually restart within an hour. The dealer was notified and an appointment was scheduled for diagnostic test. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

Car suddenly activated the brakes, bringing it to a full stop from 35mph. It was on a city street. There was a 3-wheeled motorcycle approaching in the oncoming lane, but it was centered in its lane, with no risk of collision. We were approaching an uncontrolled intersection (no signal, no signs) when it occurred. The car stopped so suddenly that the shoulder harnesses caused some discomfort. Had anyone been following at a close distance, a rear-end collision would have been likely.
My roof is leaking, it was coming out the front cabin light. This problem can be found noted on many websites with pictures for my year/model. Then we started getting errors with suspension and my wife got a warning she should stop the car. She got it home and we found the water had now leaked into the rear right quarter panel where at least 1 computer is stored. That area had at least 1 of water in it. I had to pull a drain plug to drain it. The dealership confirmed the computer was fried ($2600) and had previously said our drains were clear and the fix was a new rear seal. While their another person had just gotton that sunroof $2k fix on their car. The computer has disabled the blind spot lights on the side mirrors, front collision warning and assume auto braking, the rear camera is out, and gps. These are the things that are obvious, I don't know what else is disabled I don't know. The dealer also said they were limited on the fault codes they could get because of the failure as well. In doing more research for Volvo sunroof leak I found a site called topclassactions. Com with several individual incidences of newer years and others models where the roof leaks into the rear and fries the computer. One noted that happened while I was driving! I lost brakes and engine power, the gear box got locked. Eventually I pulled into parking lot. At that point I tried to turned off the engine of the car but it wouldn't let me. someone else noted brake failure as well. The sunroof issue is not uncommon and Volvo is giving consumers the run around when their design leaks and damages the computer controlling key safety features. These are new cars 2016 and up. There are also instances where the consumer pays to get the leak fixed and it continues to leak therefore increasing the chance of the safety computer failing.
Electric parking brake engaging violently at highway speeds at least. 3 times. Resulting in abrupt stop in moveing traffic! dealer in no hurry to repair suggesting bring back when they are able! am notifying Volvo, dealer , they will assume all liability for injury or death for this defect and lack of concern in repairing ( told a software problem , but also told caused damage to other components due to violent and abrupt stops! very uncomfortable especially since repair mgr is so arrogant!.
Is been stolen form my home and trying to fine it.

Tl the contact owns a 2017 Volvo Xc90. While driving 15 mph, the contact rear ended another vehicle because the low speed auto emergency braking/forward collision avoidance indicator did not illuminate. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. There were no injuries. The vehicle was taken to lowe pearson Volvo boise (7805 w gratz dr, boise, id 83709, 208-377-3900) where it was diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that nothing could be done to assist. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.
