1 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2018 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 09/20/2019

Excessive premature wearing of brake pads and rotors. From personal experience and discussing with other owners, Volvo is aware that the brakes on the Xc90 prematurely wear (as in after 1k-20k new brakes needed on all tires). The local dealers all state this is a known problem and then demand $1,000 to repair the brakes. Volvo's brakes and/or braking system is defective and dangerous as the brakes prematurely wear out costing consumers unnecessary money for additional repairs when Volvo could resolve the issue.

2 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2017 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 09/16/2019

After just 23k miles, the brake pads, rotors, and tires all show overwear and will regularly need replacement about every 20-30k miles. I have been advised that this is in part due to design of the chassis and, if used regularly, the adaptive cruise control. Volvo dealership says it is a regular complaint they see with the 2017 and newer models. Tire company (pirelli) says it is not the tires.

3 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2018 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 08/08/2018

We have owned our Xc90 since November 11, 2017. The brakes were squealing when braking in normal condition(s), no rain on road or water on brakes whether we were driving on city streets, highways or freeways. Volvo service technicians had to replace all 4 rotors and brake pads on 30 March 2018, just a little over 4 months of owning the vehicle. Four months later 8 August 2018, Volvo service technicians had to replace all 4 rotors again, but not the brake pads. There is nearly 25,000 miles on this car, which normally rotors aren't typically replaced up to 70,000 miles. I understand this varies based on driving but twice in 8 months for all 4 rotors is insane. They also found all four rotors each time were warped. We owned a 2012 Volvo xc60 for 5 years and never had the brakes or rotors replaced during that entire time. Secondly a grinding sound is coming from the sunshade when it is being opened or closed. Our vehicle has been in the shop since 14 August 2018 where they replaced the sunshade, only to have to replace it again 21 August 2018. We went to pick up the vehicle and the grinding sound is back again, which now Volvo will have to replace the sunshade for a third time. I am a Volvo customer for life, but these issues need to be addressed and fixed for future models. I am thankful for the courtesy vehicle during this time, but I really want my vehicle back. I assume my next course of action if we get the vehicle back a third time with a defective sunshade or brakes is lemon law.

4 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2016 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

I purchased a 2016 Xc90 in july15. Shortly after the purchase, I started to notice issues with the brakes and various other issues. I have taken the car into service 14 times since purchase with on a few for regular maintenance. Brake pads and both front and rear roters have been replaced, but the brake issue has not been resolved. I still frequently but randomly hear clicking sounds near to the brake paddle. I am mostly concerned that it happens when I am driving high speed while trying to slow down. If root cause cannot be identified after so many attempts of fixing, I worry that one day this car will kill someone. I have attached service records and a recording of the clicking. In addition to the brake, I also have many other issues which can be found on the service record, mostly recently, the car was on big smoke while I was driving and fire truck had to come for assistance. I am seeking your help to solve the problem. As I had so many issues with this car and one still haven't been fixed, I have no confidence to continue to drive the car.

5 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2005 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 06/11/2010

A national distributor of replacement automobile parts provided the incorrect size front brake rotors for a 2005 Volvo xc-90. A owens cross road, al auto repair shop that installed these front brake rotors blamed the national distributors catalog error for smaller (approximately 0. 50 inch) front brake rotors which are sold as an exact replacement for the original Volvo rotors. The front brake pads actually exceeded the front rotors outer diameter and should have been obvious to any responsible auto mechanic. The national distributors catalog error is recklessly endangering people all over the united states. The name of the national distributor is unknown but certainly could be obtained from the owens cross road auto repair service. The national distributor should be fined and required to notify every auto repair shop which they have supplied with the incorrect size front rotors.

6 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 01/28/2010

Driving on 210-west, my car lost power without warning. The fuel pump had been replaced on Jan. 26, 2010, to correct the strong smell of gasoline inside and outside of the car. Other problems have been replacing the brake pads twice, replacing the abs, faulty gps and cd player, front passenger door automatic lock needs motor replaced, sloshing sound of water heard inside the car after rain.

7 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2007 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 12/20/2009

Brake system failure 3 months after brake system service by an authorized dealer. I had my 2007 Volvo Xc90 serviced by momentum Volvo in houston texas. They have serviced brake system and installed new brake pads. 3 months later, the brake system started to perform poorly, car was unstable when braking and brakes would make a screeching noise. Another Volvo dealer diagnosed failure of brake pads and rotors and installed new parts for a cost of $600. 00 Volvo claims that this is not warranty related item even though the parts have been installed only 3 months ago. I believe, this problem is serious enough for consideration for a recall as consumers my not be aware of poor brake system condition soon after the brake system service and this may lead to an unsafe or hazardous situation.

8 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2006 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 01/29/2006

On January 29, 2007 I took my 2006 Volvo Xc90 2wd to the Volvo dealer for the 15,000 mile scheduled service to include the scheduled tire rotation and balance. The car had 14,764 miles. The service advisor called later in the day to state that (1) I needed front brake pads, and (2) needed four new tires because the original equipment tires were completely worn out. When I asked why those items were needed, he told me (1) the front brake pads wear early because they aren't large enough to support the weight of the car, and (2) the original 17" pirellii scorpion zero tires are a performance tire and "too soft" for the vehicle and thus wear out prematurely. He estimated I had about 1 or 2 mm of tread left, and advised me not to drive in the rain. I spoke to the Volvo dealer service manager the same day who said he would look into getting me 4 new tires free from pirelli as a one-time "goodwill" gesture. On January 30, 2007, the Volvo service manager called to say that because my car was under 15,000 miles pirelli had agreed to replace all 4 tires free. The 17" tires needed to be ordered and would arrive in 4-6 weeks. The service manager assured me that my car was safe to drive until the new tires were installed. On March 18, 2007 I noticed that the tread had completely worn away on both back tires, and belt is showing through. On March 19, 2007 I called the Volvo dealer to find out what was the status of my new pirelli tires and was told that there were no 17" pirelli tires in stock, and they had to be special ordered. I told the service scheduler that the car is undrivable because the tires are completely bald. I am still waiting for the Volvo dealer to call me back.
