1 Wiper problem of the 2025 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 08/01/2025

The screens and backup camera are repeatedly crashing, even after the recall "fix" from the dealership. This happens multiple times a week.

2 Wiper problem of the 2018 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 07/16/2024

This morning and a few days ago, ice cold water was dripping onto my control display pad and on me. The leakage came from the ourside down the plastic compartment behind my rearview mirror. This was distracting while I was driving since there was now water on me, and it was shorting out and affecting my control display. It would continue to be buggy while driving. I believe this issue is a result from a cracked seal between the windshield and the car body. I have seen other documented cases on Volvo forums.

3 Wiper problem of the 2016 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 03/01/2024

The car has a factory fault with the windshield wiper or turn signal contact switch, which is causing the inability to use the left/right signal and the wipers. The entire part is factory faulty, rendering the vehicle unable to operate safely. This affects visibility during wet conditions because the wipers cannot be activated due to the malfunctioning switch, which can lead to serious accidents. Additionally, malfunctioning left/right turning signals can also cause serious accidents, as it is a crucial function. Yes, the vehicle is available upon request. I contacted Volvo, but they declined to fix the issue. They have published a technical bulletin regarding the problem but are not recalling the vehicles. Many other Volvo models have the same factory defect, as can be found on the internet. The technical bulletin confirms their fault. I have attached the file. No, the vehicle has not been inspected. Yes, the vehicle shows a "turn indicator malfunction" message on the main screen. This issue started around 89k miles.

4 Wiper problem of the 2021 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 12/01/2023

Heat does not work in hybrid vehicle. Prevents windshield from being able to be defrosted in winter. Should be covered under warranty, however when I took it to the dealer they report that multiple Volvo have this problem and there is a part shortage. Because of this problem, the vehicle is unsafe to drive the vehicle in the winter because it won't generate enough heat to melt the snow and ice that hits the windshield.

5 Wiper problem of the 2018 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 09/09/2023

Wipers began to turn on randomly without driver command causing distractions in a vehicle with 38,000 miles. There is a technical service bulletin about this issue (32366). It is known that the wipers will completely fail to work after an unknown, but rather short interval. Failed windshield wipers would render the vehicle unsafe to operate, therefore we elected for immediate repair. The repair was in excess of $1,500 and the manufacturer refused to pay for the repair out of warranty.

6 Wiper problem of the 2005 Volvo XC90

7 Wiper problem of the 2023 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 09/13/2022

The rearview camera on the Volvo continually freezes, is delayed to start or blacks out. Since I have had the car for the last year there have been multiple times a week where reverse is selected and the rearview camera loads, then when I start backing the camera image freezes two to three times before jumping and resuming normal operation. I've also experienced where the camera image is displayed, then the screen temporarily blacks out for a second and then the image is displayed again. This happen most notably when the car is unlocked and then immediately shifted into reverse. I've brought this into show the repair shop but they state it is normal behavior or they can't replicate the issue (even though I've provided them a video of the issue happening). After a year it's getting very dangerous as backing into tight spaces, a delay or black out can cause me to hit something or someone thinking I'm further away then I really am. When the car is in a deep sleep (not driven for a few days), then the camera can take upwards of 15+ seconds to load after turning on the car and selecting reverse.

9 Wiper problem of the 2016 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 04/19/2021

When driving my Volvo after it has rained and I begin to break, while on a road with a minimal decline, rain water pours into the cabin. I was told by Volvo service technicians the water is not able to channel through the sunroof channels correctly due to corrosion or clogging in the drainage tubes/sunroof tray assembly. The water pours into the cabin near the intellisafe/rearview mirror area. This event creates a distraction to the driver especially if breaking while on a right hand curve as the water pours out towards the drivers field of vision. For fear of water damaging any electrical safety components, or the integrity of the interior materials I pull over to dry these components. This event occurs when ever it rains.

10 Wiper problem of the 2018 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

Volvo Xc90 2018 models will not always display rear view camera content within 2 seconds of shifting into reverse as per fmvss 111. This is due to really slow and lagging infotainment system. Behavior is evident on multiple models and vehicles which share same sensus infotainment system.

11 Wiper problem of the 2018 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 03/15/2018

Cracked windshield even with less than minor chip. The car was driving at 68mph on a straight highway on a 'clip' sound was heard hitting the windshield. After 10 minutes a 14 inch crack was noted from the top edge to the center of the windshield. The car has <2000 miles on it. Is the quality of windshield worse in cars with driver assistance packages. Have driven different vehicles without driver assistance and never encountered such an incident. The extent of crack with a chip (which is not even visible), is quite surprising. I hope NHTSA will look into this. Is this isolated to this vehicle manufacturer or with most manufacturer windshields with driver assistance packages. This may be life-threatening if the glass is not strong enough and shatter with such minor road hazards.

12 Wiper problem of the 2010 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 01/03/2018

The drivers side view mirror has loosened without evidence of trauma. It is difficult to maintain visibility without opening the window and manually pushing the mirror casing outward. It moves when the car is in motion and when stationery.

13 Wiper problem of the 2016 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 05/10/2016

2016 Volvo Xc90 windshield crack I found my windshield cracked right around the rear lip-end of the hood above the wiper resting position, then cutting up at about the center of the windshield, thereby making an "l" shaped crack measuring apprx 22 inches by 8 inches. I'm the only driver of the vehicle during this period, and I think I should know if a debris or rock hit my car, causing such a major damage to the windshield. I drove it to the dealership to lodge a complaint, and they responded by saying they think it may have been a debris or rock. Well, if it's a rock or debris, I'll expect there should be some sort of a conspicuous or very glaring point of origin/impact, considering this is 22 inches by 8 inches crack on a windshield close the base seal joint. I'll also expect a point of origin/impact to have some sort of surface roughness to the finger feel, this crack is smooth all through beginning to end. Moreover the unique "l" shape doesn't seem to follow any logical accidental rock or debris profile. However, the bottom part does follow the "curved" base profile of the car/windshield area. I don't understand why at such low miles the windshield will have an approx 30 inch crack. In my opinion I'll think that grossly compromises safety considering the amount of force or pressure exacted on the windshield at any point in time during operations. Perhaps, time will tell what it is, however, hopefully no fatalities before then.

14 Wiper problem of the 2005 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 08/15/2015

My Volvo Xc90 also has been diagnosed with cem problems after various symptoms began to arise. After going through a car wash, the display began showing various messages. The biggest problem is the the windshield wipers stopped working. I have ordered a new cem and intend to replace it . I am an attorney. If this vehicle continues to fail after the cem is replaced, I intend to take further legal action, especially in light of the reports and complaints I have read on this website. I intend to call the local dealer tomorrow to put them on notice of the problems with my vehicle. I cannot believe a reputable company like Volvo does not take care of the customers who have purchased their vehicles. I am formally requesting that the investigation into these problems be reopened as the problems caused by the cem design flaws cause dangerous problems that can threaten the safety and even the lives of those who drive and ride in the Volvo Xc90.

15 Wiper problem of the 2005 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 01/23/2014

The contact owns a 2005 Volvo Xc90. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph the windshield wipers became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the mechanic diagnosed that the central electronic module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was informed by the manufacturer that his vehicle was not covered under NHTSA campaign number: 06v144000 (visibility). The approximate failure mileage was 128,000.

16 Wiper problem of the 2004 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 12/03/2012

While driving at highway speeds, the vehicle experienced a complete systems failure of engine, lighting, wipers, interior lighting (dash), brake failure message and srs airbag service warnings. This has begun to happen repeatedly. This problem appears to be the same that many other Xc90 owners have been experiencing.
