2 Engine problem of the 2008 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 06/04/2011

My 2008 Pt Cruiser has a bad #3 valve. I had the car tuned up due to a misfire code of the #3 valve. After driving for two days with new spark plugs and wires, the car idled rough and the same code for #3 misfire valve came up on the dash. My mechanic checked the pressure in the valve and #1,2, & 4 had a pressure of 175 with # 3 having pressure of 110. My car only has 77,135 miles on it. I found another complaint with the same valve on the same year and their car only had 38000. Seeing how more than one car has the very same problem, doesn't this need looking into. My mechanic told me the only way to fix it was to replace valve or replace the engine head which costs around $1500. 00.

14 Engine problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 01/10/2008

Owner noticed a slight "puddle" (size of a silver dollar) on garage floor. Owner jacked up car to inspect and identify where leak was originating. Noted a misplaced bushing on the bracket holding the power steering hose in place under the engine. One end of the bushing had broken allowing the hose to chafe against the bracket and leak fluid. Owner immediately took car into the dealer to have repaired. Upon examination, dealer informed owner that the motor mounts (2) had broken allowing the engine to sit lower on the frame and that is what caused the bushing to fail. Owner paid over $1,000 to replace motor mounts (2) and replace bushing and power steering hose. Owner feels that motor mount failure was premature as the car only has 38,000 miles on it and has never been driven hard and has been garaged its entire lifetime. Owner has in his possession the defective motor mounts. Although there were no injuries or deaths, there certainly could have been if the owner had not been so observant and vigilant about maintaining the car. Loss of power steering function or engine detachment would be catastrophic on the road, particularly at freeway speeds.
