Body Problems of Acura MDX - part 1

The hazard warning switch on my 2011 Acura Mdx technology & entertainment package VIN [xxx] sticks. It is due to a manufacturing defect and not because of normal wear and tear. That is a safety concern because when it is pressed and sticks, such as when giving the right of way to an emergency vehicle, or in bad weather, it not possible to make it unstuck while driving, and requires a screwdriver to pry it back to unstuck position, and if that option is not available then the stuck hazard switch will drain the battery when the vehicle is shut down. Please refer to enclosed Acura servicenews article b15070c. On 8/9/2025, for my service at hendrick Acura, I requested this known safety issue be fixed. I demonstrated by pressing the hazard switch that got stuck and required a screwdriver to unstick it. But the dealer unreasonably wanted me to pay $99 diagnostic fee to troubleshoot an obvious issue and even when I showed them the Acura servicenews article b15070c. So, I was forced to confirm the issue indirectly myself. On 8/11/2025, I ordered a replacement hazard switch part number 33510-stx-a02 from another Acura dealer contemporary cars, for $37. 02, per enclosed, even though it was a waste of my money. I swapped out the hazard switch and as expected it still got stuck. I have enclosed two pictures of my diy diagnostic. I then searched for replacement dashboard center panel online from the Acura dealers, but I am unable to find any available. I then contacted Acura client relations on 8/25/2025, and they opened a case # [xxx]. Kevin from Acura client relations called and stated that b15070c does not apply to my VIN. But I disagree because b15070c states for 'affected vehicles' - "2010-13 Mdx (all trim levels except base. " hence, I am contacting NHTSA to ask Acura to cover my VIN as a saftey recall, and either provide me a replacement center panel that does not have the same manufacturing defect, or ask hendrick Acura to replace it free of cost. Bought the car brand new, at only 10k miles, found out that the fender liner is falling off from the frame. During the rain, it gets heavier and pulls further down. Eventually fabric will fall off and will hit the tire while driving and possibly cause an accident. Tried to get it fixed by Acura dealership but they're saying it cannot be fixed because it's manufacturing defect.

Our 2016 Mdx starting peeling paint off the roof. Acura said they extended the warranty for this known defect for an 8 year period. Since this problem just happened we are outside the 8 year extension. The internet is full of similar stories of people like us who have the paint peeling after the bogus 8 year extension. Acura said they aren't responsible. This isn't right.

The white paint on the roof of my car peeled off in huge chunks between the sunroof and the windshield. Acura had extended the warranty on the paint to 8 years from the date in service and ours was fine at the deadline. However, now at 11 years in, the paint has completely failed. It appears that there are a large number of other Acura owners who are having issues with the paint on their white Mdxs, and Acura is in some cases saying that their VIN numbers are not included. It is an obvious problem with the white paint since Acura issued the warranty extension, but the limit was arbitrary and it is ridiculous that a "luxury" SUV has peeling paint that will result in an expensive repair job.

This is in reference to Acura service bulletin 14-032, rear side body plug is missing. Both my right and left side body plugs were missing, causing myself and family to experience symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning for at least a year. I had the exhaust system checked by Acura and and independent garage and they found no issues. I would not have know about the cause if I had not found it in a chat thread in an Acura online community. All owners need to be notified. This should be a mandatory safety recall for Acura Mdx for 2010-2013.

Pearl white paint pealed between sunroof and windshield, which could lead to rusting of the roof. The symptom looks exactly like the extended warranty issue in Acura service bulletin 19-029, which only covers models until 2016.

The paint on the roof of my 2016 Acura Mdx is peeling, as described in Acura service bulletin 19-029 in August 28, 2019. The paint code nh-603p matched the service bulletin but Acura is denying me of any warranty because of VIN. This is a known problem for 2014 - 2016 Honda and Acura white diamond or pearl white paint nh-603p many people have the same issues based from a quick search on google but Honda and Acura are denying many people because they are not expanding the VIN and or only restricting and addressing certain locations. There are no dent or scratches on my roof, no sign of weather damage. They used the same paint and same problem as service bulletin so obviously the problem was not addressed to all 2014 - 2016 Mdx. Manufacture should be held responsible and expand their service to other customers with the same paint code as well.

The paint on this vehicle failed and matches photos in Acura service bulletin 19-029 which deals with failure of paint color nh-603p. When calling Honda I was told that that recall is VIN specific and that my vehicle was not affected. The attached photos clearly show that the paint is defective and therefor should be covered. According to the service bulletin a warranty extension was issued for 8 years from the date the vehicle was placed in to service which in my case was June 30, 2016.

I have attached all my service records from Honda/Acura and the dealership motorworld which is located in wilkes barre, PA I had my first issue with the car in January 2024 with sensors malfunctioning. They we replaced a few times, repeated issue I had other issues that didn't replicate themself or show as an error code when I brought the car in. Issue accelerating or inability to accelerate on the highway in a middle lane w/ a tractor trailer on each side. One trying to merge into my lane. Noisy brakes, low breaks etc fast forward to March 2025, my number one complaint about these sensor issues is they would malfunction on me one day when I was driving. And I was always assured by the dealership it was good, the car was good, I was good. Acura felt the same. Well in April my steering malfunctioned while driving, the steering wheel locked as I was breaking for a red light, and I drifted off the road. Turns out my steering rack needed to replaced. It was fixed on 4/4 then on [xxx] with my children in the car, it did the same thing. Now they tell me it is the eps, electric power steering. This car spends more time on [xxx] and one day this is going to happen on the interstate and there will be fatalities. I have been screaming at Acura and the motorworld for months. Acura will not respond to emails (which I have kept) and every time I call the case manager assigned to me is not available. The few times months ago I did speak to someone they tell me the same things the automated email I get once in while that say my case is under review. All dates of occurrence and repair are in the service records I attached. They still have my car today, 5/8/25 so I do not have those to attach. White diamond pearl paint started peeling prematurely approx 130,000 miles in 2023 in large sections causing unsightly paint. This is a very well known problem for this car in both Acuras and hondas and a recall was done but with very very limited vehicles. Dealer refused to help us.

1. Rear subframe body mount rust-through, newly discovered. 2. Available for inspection. 3. Risk of frame failure and resulting instability at speed 4. There is a TSB for the virtually identical Honda pilot regarding this issue; TSB 21-019 "2003-2008 pilot rear subframe body mount rust repair (customer-pay repair)". 5. Not inspected. A local body shop reviewed a photo and won't touch it. 6. No warnings.

My vehicle was part of a recall and Acura extended warranty protection for the paint between the windshield and sunroof. This was a manufacturer defect with the paint when the car was made. It did not happen to my car until October 2023 and Acura will not fix the paint due to end of the warranty extension that was issued by NHTSA. I was told to contact you from Acura corporate. They said the regulation to not cover any vehicles with this paint issue, was coming from NHTSA. The paint was applied incorrectly when the car was made and it’s causing a big circle of paint to randomly come off of the area of the car between the windshield and sunroof. I’m concerned the paint will continue to chip away and start coming off in large pieces. This is a manufacturer defect and should not be time limited.

Paint is peeling and coming off of my roof, good and tail end of my SUV. This can be a safety hazard if it continues to peel because that removes a layer of cover from the top which could lead to danger. The color is a pearl white. This has not been confirmed by a local dealer but it has been inspected by an insurance adjuster.

The front bumper of the car is becoming unattached. There is a space underneath the headlights. The panel gap between the fender and front bumper has grown at the top, indicating the bumper is slipping from the top down. The problem appears to be getting worse. The plastic underneath the bumper is now becoming detached. I fear some of the clamps behind the bumper have failed. I also fear this may begin impacting critical systems and sensors behind the bumper. The Acura dealer denies any issue exists.

Background: Acura/Honda knows of an issue with their white pearl paint from 2016 and has issued a TSB to address the paint on certain VIN numbers. However, many owners are finding that even though they have a 2016 white Acura Mdx, the VIN is not covered by the TSB. The TSB extends the warranty to 8 years for any peeling of the white paint. Acura/Honda states that only the vins that are in range of the TSB are affected, however many owners are experiencing the peeling/chipping of the paint even thought their VIN is not in range. While driving on the highway the moon roof spontaneously exploded and shattered. The noise was loud and startling like a gunshot and poses a serious risk of crashing and injury if the shade is open at the time of explosion.

Good afternoon, my Acura Mdx 2016 roof paint peeling off. It is known problem. Also I found gov. Document for warranty extension. But Acura refuse to fix my Mdx paint job. Because of my car is not in the warranty extension list. Please check attached my photo file. I bought new car in 2017 November and around over 2500k miles I heard engine chirping sound and if you're surrounded by wall you can hear it louder. Took it to dealership several time but they said it's normal and show me another car to prove to me. Which it did had same sound. Then yrs go by I hear loud clunking sound underneath the car every time I reversed and when switching gear to reverse. Also about 1-2 yr owning it I heard clunking sound on steering wheel so when mechanic looked at dealership they said it could have been air bag wires so they secured it and shouldn't have any more problem. On 3rd yr I went back to dealership because I know something is wrong with steering wheel clunking sound when turning low speed to right and felt much tighter to turn. They said one of suspension is problem so they replaced but 2wks later happen again. I was in rush for them to resolve before my 4yr warranty ends but they keep playing around saying initially by experience mechanic when we did test drive he heard the sound and thinks it's steering rack or pinion. So I was relived after yr of back n forth they figured out and tells me to wait for next step. But after 1hr waiting at lobby they told me after lifting car up can't manipulate the sound again so can't fix. I wanted to speak to that mechanic again and the way he looked at me and said sorry I don't know what's wrong with it seem like his been told by higher up to lie bc that day they had corporate person visit and that person refused my claim. I asked to fix steering rack or both and they said we can't bc its costing them money and what if that's not the case. I took it to local mechanic and whenever my vehicle is lifted its hard to find the sound but when on ground you can hear. Then recently I brought up that clunk sound to different mechanic during oil change they found out that my body frame was loose so he tighten the bolts. He said it's rare to have frame loose. After that no more clunking when reversing.

My Mdx exhibits the same paint defect in Acuras 19-029 service bulletin. I have paint chipping away between the windshield and the sun roof. However, Acura refuses to fix the issue because they say my VIN is not covered even though my cars year and paint fall under the description. 2016 Mdx w pearl whit paint. I need them to fix the issue by repainting my roof.

Horrible rust on subframe. Subframe disconnected from vehicle while driving!!! very lucky I was not going at a high speed. This is very unsafe, and there are many similar complaints for these Mdxs/pilots online.

The car caught fire spontaneously in the parking area. We called 911 and the fire brigade took about an hour to get the fire under control. We had gone to chickfila (about 6 miles total distance) and the car had been parked for maybe 5 minutes when we saw a fire engulf the front portion. I put water on it while waiting for 991 response.

I have a 2001 Mdx with rear subframe bushing bolts that are rusted out and disconnected from the body. The back end has been clunking. The rear subframe bolts that goes through the bushing has disconnected from the body from what looks like rusted out connectors or maybe the body itself.

I was driving on a nyc street, going over a speed bump at less than the noted (10 mph) speed when the spare tire broke from the holder and dropped into the path of the following car.

The certified pre-owned (cpo) 2017 Acura Mdx I purchased ion 07/24/20 from davis Acura in langhorne, PA should not be classified as a cpo! I paid my automotive repair shop of 20 years that maintained my Lexus suvs to do their own 83-point detailed inspection on the Acura Mdx. I was shocked in their reporting wheel alignment needed - recommended left rear tire edge wear & body � evidence of previous accident damage to rear bumper, right front door, left side doors, left rear quarter panel & left front fender. I was informed that at least 50% of SUV has been repainted & there was dirt underneath the paint. Was this formerly leased SUV in an accident that went unreported with clean carfax and auto check reports? the left door exterior chrome door handle was also replaced by dealership but no reason is listed as to why replaced. There are now issues with: exposed airbag � is it the original or was it replaced?; tire pressure varies (+/- 7 or 8 ) in the rear left tire that has been looked at by my local Acura dealer two times in one week & the 3rd visit will be to replace the tpms sensors in a car with only 16,000 miles?; the defroster is not fully working in the left passenger window and the misalignment of the lift gate is a concern because it prevents the a/c or heat from working effectively in the 2nd & 3rd row, there is rain water sitting on the inside of the SUV that remains for hours. Could it mold or cause damage to the rear electric lighting components? how does the lift gate trunk door misalign if it wasn't in an accident? if the lift gate trunk door is misaligned, why was this SUV sold as a cpo & not used? I do not feel comfortable driving the SUV. I have yet to receive a call back by phone from Acura dealership owner in 4 weeks and/or from the Acura customer care specialist in the last 10 days about my case filed. Can NHTSA inspect SUV for damage & repainting?.

I was driving 80 mph on the highway when the passenger side windshield garnish flew off the car. After inspection, it appears the clips that hold the garnish on were broken.

My vehicle was parked under my car port immediately after returning from the grocery store. As I was unloading the car I saw and smelled smoke which then erupted into a fire coming from the engine compartment. We called 911 and when the fd arrived the car was totally engulfed as was my building. Suspect fuel line leak. Insurance company investigating. Fd says Acura Mdx was cause of fire. Dangerous situation as no prior indicators from vehicle, recalls, etc. . Photos available if needed. If gone unnoticed, entire structure could have been lost.

I was approaching a stop light on a busy street on a very bright day and did not see that the stop light I was approaching had turned red. When I realized it was red, I braked rapidly of course but still going at a pretty good speed I hit the stopped car in front of me. The collision was between drivers side of my Mdx and right rear of a medium-sized white Jeep. My 17 yr old son was in the front passenger seat and his air bag deployed, however my driver bag did not deploy. Both seat belts locked up. The impact was very strong on driver side given that is where we hit. Fortunately, my seat belt kept me from hitting the windshield. My only injuries are neck ache, head ache, seat belt bruises, and ringing ears. My concern is for future use of my car. If the driver air bag did not deploy given this hard of a hit, I do not believe it will deploy in any collision. I filed a complaint with Acura requesting them to inspect the airbag and black box to determine why it did not deploy and they said that airbags are designed to only deploy when needed and in this case the cars computer determined it was not needed hence there is no reason to inspect it further. I believe that if the airbag deployed on the passenger side where the impact was less then the air bag should have also deployed on the driver side. My insurance adjuster also supposedly requested Acura to inspect the vehicle and they also did not get any favorable action from Acura. Honda/Acura of America returned my phone calls twice and simply said there is no supporting information indicating that the airbag or cars computer should be investigated. They also did not ask any questions about the accident in which additional information could be provided. The estimated repair on the car is over $12k.

Sunroof exploded - driving vehicle around 60mph on misty rainy overcast day. All of a sudden sunroof shatters (no car around for rock or pebble projection).
