2 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2005 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 09/10/2016

Inflator recall - we received a recall letter from Acura in July 2016 that told us to fix the airbag inflator immediately. They also recommended we don't drive our car until the changes have been made. So, we immediately called the dealer and they told us they did not have the part, but would call us when it arrived. A month went by, so we called again and they still did not have the part. After 2 months, we are concerned about the safety of our vehicle due to the long delay in dealership availability. What is the policy on a delay of a dealer's availability to fix a recalled part?.

4 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2010 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 07/12/2016

Takata inflators dear NHTSA, I have the following question that I was hoping you could answer for every 2010 Acura vehicle is recalled with the exception of the Mdx, how is it that the Mdx is not on the list? did they use a different airbag configuration in the Mdx that they did not use in all other models, that does not sound like it would be cost effective for Honda? my wife's 2010 tl was only recently added to the list (~3 months ago), so I would not be surprised to see the Mdx appear on the list next month. I am inquiring because, quite frankly, I do not want to drive the Mdx if the airbag is suspect. Best regards, concerned Acura owner.

5 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2005 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 05/30/2016

Takata inflators? I have been waiting very patiently on a waiting list to have the passenger frontal airbag inflator replaced. No such luck! I keep calling to make sure I am on the list at esserman Acura in doral, and they confirm I am, but they are unable to give me an estimate of when I will have the inflator replaced! we are a family of 5 and Acura suggests that we "avoid having a passenger sit in the front passenger's seat until the recall repair has been performed. " I sit in that seat and don't allow any of my children to sit in the front for fear that something could happen to them, but this has gone on for too long. Can someone please perform this recall for us? I would like it to be done before school starts up again. I called in may for the recall and I am still waiting.

6 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2005 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 08/14/2015

This is a general complaint regarding what I believe to be an insufficient recall involving the 2005 Acura Mdx among other vehicles (NHTSA recall no. 14v-700 & 14v-353). I considered purchasing a 2005 Acura Mdx of the provided VIN but decided against it after finding that the vehicle was not covered by recalls 14v-700 & 14v-353. The recalls pertain to passenger front and side curtain airbags that "could produce excessive internal pressure upon deployment. " the recall states that "if an affected airbag deploys, the increased internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture and deploy abnormally. In the event of an inflator rupture, metal fragments could pass through the airbag cushion material possibly causing serious injury or fatality to you or others in the vehicle. " however, the recall applies only to vehicles that "were originally sold in, or ever registered in geographic locations with a high absolute humidity, including the following: alabama, florida, georgia, hawaii, louisiana, mississippi, south carolina, texas, puerto rico, u. S. Virgin islands, saipan, guam, and american samoa. " I am a college student, and while I live in colorado and would register my vehicle in CO, I attend school in texas, which according to the recall has sufficient humidity to affect the function of the passenger airbags. I contacted both an Acura dealer and Acura relations to ask if they would replace my passenger airbags since I will have the vehicle in TX for 8 months of the year for the next two years, but they refused to perform this recall work since my vehicle's VIN is not included in the recall (it has always been registered in CO). Since it is known that humidity is detrimental to the function of the airbags, this recall is insufficient as it does not protect owners of vehicles that are exposed to humid conditions but are not registered in one of the applicable states.

7 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2003 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 10/10/2014

In October of 2014 srs light came on in my 2003 Acura MD. Acura reported faulty srs unit and replaced unit at owners expense. At same service appointment, Acura replaced air bag inflator under recall (sb 14-029) under warranty. Subsequently, another airbag recall (sb-14-023) was completed 12/9/14. Srs unit now placed on recall list by NHTSA. Owner applied to american Honda for reimbursement of costs to replace defective srs unit (10/14) but was denied because "there was no deployment of air bag prior to the replacement" (10/14). I'm confused. This particular year/model srs unit is being recalled/replaced due to the potential for life threatening deployment problems. In addition there were several other recalls associated with this model's airbag system clearly indicating that there were/are problems with the 2003 Acura Mdx. Fortunately, my srs unit in question was replaced (for noted defects) prior to a disastrous deployment. As such, why am I not being reimbursed for the prior replacement of my unit that has now been placed on the recall list?.
