Air Bag Problems of Acura MDX - part 1

While driving at 25 miles an hour on a smooth curving road out of a housing area my wife who was driving and my grand daughter in the front passenger seat heard a loud boom that sounded like somthing hit the roof. My grand daughter looked into the back passenger area and said she saw a large buldge in the headliner near the back window on the drivers side. My wife continued driving saftly to the nearest parking lot and parked the vehicle, she got out and inspected the roof and found no dammage of any kind. She opened the back window tail gate and saw a large fist size buldge in the headliner near the open area on the drivers side. She had no idea what happened. There were no waring lights or indicators that indicated a problem and she drove home and showed it to me. When I saw it I thought it was a rear window or curtian air bag that tried to deploy but did not break through the headlinner. I have called the dealer and scheduled an appointment to check it out on thur March 26 at 09:00 2026. I verified that there are no indicators or warning lights that indicate a problem. The service department said it should be safe to drive until then.

The driver sustained injuries to the knee, head, neck, and back and was transported to the hospital for medical assistance. There was no airbag deployment, fire, or police report filed; however, a police officer and the state police were present at the scene and moved the vehicle before photos could be taken. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot and later to an auto body shop. The local dealer was contacted and confirmed there were no recalls applicable to the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

On 11. 25. 25, my Mdx was involved in a multi-car hit and run on highway 101 sb at the laurel drive off ramp. The vehicle sustained two points of impact: (1) substantial front/driver side impact (2) rear-passenger side impact. Despite the severity, location of impact and speed of travel at the time of the collision, all airbags deployed except for the driver side curtain airbag. Importantly, at the time of the crash, the lane keeping assist system (lkas) and associated Acurawatch driver assist systems were activated. The vehicle’s safety assistance technology was engaged and functioning immediately prior to impact. Considering the above mentioned facts, driver side airbag failing to deploy, raises serious concerns regarding possible software or signal-processing malfunction or electronic communication between radar/camera systems and the srs module. The nature and severity of the impact clearly met deployment criteria for the driver side airbag. This failure raises concern that there may be a defect in the srs system, including but not limited airbag inflator component or propellant issue. Supplemental restraint system (srs) crash sensor calibration. Srs control module deployment logic. Crash signal sensors. Event-trigger logic or interconnnect failure. Wiring harness or inflator defect. Whether the system registered steering correction or impact prediction, the failure to deploy increased my risk and resulting injury, as well as compromised the fundamental safety system designed to protect drivers in front-impact crashes.

Acura has failed to repair my vehicle with a known recall for a year. I am told they're prioritizing symptomatic vehicles and have no eta on all others. Why have a recall of a safety feature and not actually handle the recall timely. I prefer not to wait for an injury or incident before this is given the proper attention.

On Jan 21, 2025 the drivers side air bag deployed as I was driving. I did not hit or get hit by anyone or anything, I did not run over anything either the airbag deployed on drivers side from the front to the back of my Acura Mdx it was sudden it was random nd damn scary. I was injured from the impact of the air bag . . . I have had my car approximately 6 months I am purchasing from drive now in wichita, KS and am still making payments on this vehicle. .

Airbag light has been lit for a while now for my 2004 Acura Mdx. I originally took the car to courtesy Acura for them to check what causing it. They told me that the sensor should be replaced and I paid $260+. After replacing sensor, the airbag light still lit. They told me that they need to replace the front seatbelt buckles. One buckle (part 04813-s3v-a62zc) arrived but the other one has been backordered for a while now (almost a year) and there's no eta from american Honda on when the part (part 04816-s3v-a61zc) will be available. This is a safety issue since the airbag will not deploy in case of accident. Hope you guys can help me expedite the process and escalate the issue with american Honda. Thank you soo much!.

I was at stoplight waiting to make a right turn and the check air bag system turned on. No accident, just the error came on for no reason. This is safety issue and it should have lifetime warranty! I called the dealer and they told me that its will cost me $295 just to diagnose the error. I feel like this should be recall. I understand that it’s an electronic device and could failed. But it should have lifetime warranty.

Vehicle produced a dash warning light for airbag/supplemental restraint system on January 29th or 30th, 2022. Went away and back on again 3 times in the following week. No prior issues related to this. Vehicle has never been in an accident. Acura dealer scanned vehicle 2/5/2022 to find vehicle code 11-11, meaning bad airbag and possibly bad cable reel. No recalls or effort by Acura (contacted by me) to assist with fix. Replacement isn't readily available, nor is a dealer loaner. Part is $1202. 75. Vehicle is 2009 with only 89,7xx miles.

We have been the original owners of our 2005 Mdx. On December 12/18/21 at 630. We were wearing our seat belts. We were driving in clear weather on a new street at 35 miles an hour. The passenger side seat airbag and the right side curtain deployed. My wife was sitting in the front passenger seat. There was no collision or hazard. The airbag just exploded. We were not hit by any metal objects. The Mdx is in perfect working order and we are now told no one will cover the damage. Insurance and the dealership. We are writing to find out how we can get a fair outcome from our car becoming unusable due to manufactures defect. We have not touched the airbag or the car since this happened. Would we be able to have it inspected?.

I purchased this vehicle from a private auction in hesperia, CA around August of 2020 and I am currently the registered owner as of today. About a month into the purchase I notice the car jerk and brake unusually while in motion. I didn't know what exactly happened at the time so I ignored it for the moment. Then about another month after that incident my wife, kids and I were traveling about 70 mph on the 15fwy headed south and this time it happened once again and more aggressively due to is traveling at a much greater speed and did jerk a lot harder almost making my wife lose control. Luckily she was alert and pulled over to the shoulder right away and that's when we noticed a new light on the I dash had illuminated. We see the acronym (vsa) illuminate and I had never seen this particular light before so I then start to research it. I find out it's part of an anti lock feature and it's suffice when dealing with curvy roads and helps with traction which gives smoother turns while driving and gives better control of the vehicle. I also read it's best to keep this feature off while commuting in your regular everyday transit. So as months go by it happened to me a good handful of times afterwards but at slower speeds and this time the light would not go off when I tried turning off the vsa control button on the driver side dash. I didn't have means to repair this part so I put it off once again. Well coming to a more recent event which resulted in myself losing control while on my way home from work at 11:30pm at night and totaling the vehicle as well as flipping the vehicle until it came to a rest on its side. I strongly believe the vsa feature malfunctioned made me lose control at 62-65 mph almost claiming my life. I strongly believe it is responsible for my recent accident which could have been life threatening and has caused financial stress upon my family.

Never been in accident, srs warning on dash, so took to Acura service dept in November of 2020, they confirmed it's the opds unit & the opds sensor inside seat, said it's not the seatbelts, & no airbags will deploy if in accident, they want to charge $1700+tax, we are poor & can not afford that or to buy another vehicle, our safety of our family with kids are at risk if in a accident because we can not afford the charge to replace the parts.
