My car has been shaking on acceleration but no engine light or any warning popped up. When I called an Acura dealership, they said they would have trouble diagnosing the problem without a light on. A few days later, while accelerating on the highway, my car started shaking violently and lost power. The engine light started flashing. I could have gotten into an accident because I could no longer accelerate on the highway. I had to slowly pull off to a safe stop. This could have been a dangerous and life-threatening situation. Someone could have crashed into me behind me and I could not quickly get into a safe area. I brought it to an Acura dealership and they could not find anything. The engine light had turned off. Though, when I took the car again, the car was still shaking on acceleration. I was afraid to drive at normal speeds since it is extremely safe. I took it to another personal mechanic and he was able to reproduce the problem. He saw there is a service bulletin out for just this problem. The possible cause is “humid air within the intake tract may condense and accumulate excessive moisture during steady driving. ” I would have to replace the intercooler system and get the pgm-FL software updated. This is a safety issue, and Acura has not released any recalls on this. The dealerships are also saying it will not be covered by warranty for me.

Vehicle began hesitating when starting, but not all of the time. One day after refueling it would not start. Lights on the dashboard flashed and flickered and the keyless start button made a clicking sound, but the vehicle would not start. Vehicle was towed to the nearest mechanic. The next morning the mechanic started the vehicle and found nothing wrong. Mechanic kept the vehicle for a couple days and the problem reoccurred. Vehicle will not start. Computer diagnostics shows the 2018 Acura Rdx control unit part number 38320-tx4-a31 is faulty. This part is backordered and likely will not be available in the near future. The intermittent starting failure poses a safety risk and could leave a driver stranded.

We experienced loss of power in heavy interstate traffic. We had been driving in the rain for some time on I-10 in florida. We were in the right lane behind a vehicle that was traveling much slower than other vehicles. There was a gap in vehicles in the left lane so I signaled and pressed the gas pedal significantly so I could quickly get up to a matching speed for the left-lane vehicles. At this point the engine stumbled a couple of times and the check engine light began flashing. No matter how hard I pressed the gas pedal, my vehicle would not accelerate. Cars behind us had to brake quickly to avoid hitting us from behind. I turned on my emergency flashers and made my way to the right-side breakdown lane. After stopping, I turned our vehicle off and restarted the engine. No warning lights were lit and I was able to resume our drive. This is a known issue with our vehicle and other Acura/Honda vehicles. There is an existing Acura technical service bulletin (TSB), 20-053, that addresses this issue. This TSB was applied to my vehicle in March of 2021. Apparently, the TSB has not resolved the issue. This is a serious safety issue. At the very least, the car behind us could have hit us and this could have caused a multi-vehicle accident. If a semi had been behind us and couldn't stop quickly, we could have been killed. In online discussions there are a number of people that have experienced this issue. This is not an isolated incident and should be investigated.

The contact owns a 2019 Acura Rdx. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the check engine warning light suddenly illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power and started to decelerate. After pulling off the roadway and restarting the vehicle, the failure was self-corrected, and the vehicle operated as designed. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 57,000.
Driving about 75 (local speed limit) from college station texas to plano, texas over the easter weekend and vehicle suddenly lost all power, check engine light illuminates, and I have to pull over. After several minutes, light is extinguished. Restarted vehicle and service engine light illuminates (b17). Had not been on before. I drove about 65 the remainder of the trip and took it to the dealership in town. The incident can not be replicated per the shop. 22k miles.
While sitting in a long row of stopped vehicles at a traffic light for an extended amount of time due to an accident I had the automatic brake hold feature activated { I did not have to have my foot on the brake while sitting still) as well as the auto idle stop off button meaning {the engine shuts down when you come to a stop. } apparently, the brake hold feature timed out with no warning whatsoever and because the vehicle moved forward the auto start stop feature activated at the same time and the vehicle lurched forward rear ending a new expensive SUV in front of me. The impact was hard due to the quick lurch of my vehicle. I have damage to the front of my vehicle and all of the electronic features started flashing including the emission control. The driver advised she was very shaken up and if a pedestrian or bicyclist had been in front of us it could have been very tragic. The vehicle is being towed to a local Acura dealer for evaluation and I have a case number assigned by Honda with no case manager assigned yet. There were no warning lights/lamps at all prior to the vehicle brake hold timing out and further searching through the manual only says it times out after 10 minutes but does not advise what happens when that happens or what warning will be used.

Once again, 3 weeks after the first time it happened, my 2019 Acura Rdx lost all power and I had to drift to the side of the road. This occurred on the baldwin beach express and luckily there is not a lot of traffic this time of year so I could get on the shoulder. Car would not restart, all lights around the speedometer had come on. I had to have it towed to the Acura dealership in mobile where it was towed the first time when this happened. At that time the told me they could not duplicate the problem. Three weeks later it has happened again . The tow truck driver tried to start the car and said " you're not getting any fuel" and asked if the fuel pump had been checked. Supposedly it has been replaced when it was first recalled. Could it be another faulty fuel pump? my question. . . . How dangerous would this be if this happened in the I-10 mobile tunnel?????? the first time it happened I tried to call Acura but the complaint department is not open on sundays. This time it happened on a Friday and I was able to file my complaint. Will I get a response to this event now that it has happened a second time?.
While driving on interstate 65 headed towards mobile, al. My 2019 Acura Rdx lost all power. Every light surrounding the speedometer was lighted. No power, nothing. . Was able to coast from the right hand lane to the shoulder of the interstate. . No power steering and I was moving slower and slower because I was on a hill. Frightening to say the least. If I had been in the left hand lane I’m not sure I could have made it to the shoulder. And if a truck had been behind me an unable to change lanes I would have been smashed. Car towed to dealership.
On 12/22/22, I was driving in a 2021 Rdx sh-awd with my pregnant wife and 2 year old son from media PA to pittsburgh PA . It was rainy and 35-40 degrees f the whole drive. Approximately 4 hours into the drive we stopped at a rest stop on the PA turnpike to get gas. While attempting to merge back onto the turnpike from the service road to the right of the turnpike, a truck was coming up behind me in the right hand lane of the turnpike. I was traveling approximately 40mph on the service road, so I went to accelerate to safely complete the merge in front of the truck. Near the end of my acceleration sequence (I estimate I had gotten to approx 65mph) my car went into “limp mode”. I felt an unexpected and immediate loss of power and my check engine light/“mil” began flashing yellow. I was luckily able to barely avoid a collision with the truck that was approaching. After the light started flashing I was unable to turn the knob to switch drive modes (it was in snow mode at the time this all happened). I was unable to do anything but attempt to drive to safety with severe power loss. I was able to coast my car with minimal accelerator response to the next exit off the turnpike and into a motel parking lot. I shut down the car and then turned it back on. When I turned it back on, the mil light was no longer flashing and I had normal power restored to the vehicle, but interestingly the auto stop/start feature no longer worked. I was able to drive the remainder of the way to pittsburgh without any further loss in power, though I was anxious the entire drive considering the major malfunction I had just experienced while attempting a merge at highway speeds. The vehicle only had approx 10,500 miles on it at the time of the incident. The vehicle is currently at the dealership being diagnosed. A case has also been opened directly with Acura/Honda.
The contact owns a 2022 Acura Rdx. The contact stated while driving 60 mph and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle decelerated to 30 mph and failed to accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact exited the highway and parked in a nearby parking lot for approximately 10 minutes. The contact was able to continue driving to her destination. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 900.

I have a 2021 Rdx. Was on the interstate moving at about 70 mph coming back from missouri. Raining. Lots of semis creating huge following misty, hard to see rain. Decided to accelerate to pass a couple. Car nearly stalled and acted like it had lost a cylinder's worth of power. Turned on hazards, slowed, pulled over and lifted the hood hearing all kinds of unusual noises. Shut the car off and restarted. All was well. Turned all lane-keeping, etc. Off including cruise. Drove the last 100 miles or so without incident. Called dealer and was told likely didn't pull a code. Don't worry and keep driving. Said to make sure front of car was clean. Duh!! I keep my ride spotless (unless driving in the rain). Called CA's Acura line. Absolutely no help. 2 different females had no idea what limp mode was. Read quite a bit since then finding out it could be the result of many things including problems that could damage the motor and/or tranny. Wow!!! had never heard of "limp mode" before. Nice that no info on this possible problem was anywhere in any user manual. Car has performed flawlessly ever since. So far, I guess the rain had interfered with the "radar" system and confused the computer. I'm thinking about buying a 40 year old car that doesn't have any of the modern computers etc. Later found info regarding TSB 20-053 which explains the problem and proposed solution. 06-26-2022 06:52 pm.
On 9/22/22 travelling on I-290 near boylston, MA I was passing a large tractor trailer in the far left lane going up a hill. It was and had been raining very hard for at least the previous hour. When I stepped on the accelerator to increase speed, the car suddenly decelerated to about 20 mph and the check engine light began flashing. I was able cross all three lanes in very heavy traffic to the shoulder. I then slowly made my way off the interstate to a gas station right beyond the exit. My passengers and I were very concerned about the suddenness and the abrupt reduction in speed on an extremely busy roadway. A call to the nearest Acura dealer service department confirmed he had seen nearly the same symptoms the prior week under similar road conditions and the same model car as mine. He found no codes on the other car. I also notified Acura customer service who confirmed the existence of a service bulletin on precisely this issue (flashing light with loss of power).
On September 6, 2022, at 7:45 am I was traveling from my home to work in my 2020 Acura Rdx. As I was merging on to an interstate in heavy, high-speed traffic, my Rdx suddenly lost power and started to decelerate with absolutely no warning at all as high-speed traffic was approaching from behind. My vehicle decelerated to a speed of about 20mph on an interstate in the midst of heavy, high-speed traffic. The malfunction indication light began flashing in the instrument panel. I was able to drive at slow speed of about 15-20 mph, with 4-way lights flashing, until I could exit the interstate. I turned the car off for a few minutes and then was able to proceed. This created an extremely dangerous situation.
I was accelerating up a hill on a wv highway in a steady rain, the engine cut power, the check engine light flashed on and off, further throttle input did nothing, the car slowed on its own. I had to pull over from the left lane dangerously cutting in front of vehicles in the right lane as I could no longer maintain highway speed. Shut the car down and waited to rekey. Vehicle has operated fine ever since. The dealer has not been able to duplicated the issue (two weeks afterwards).
The contact owns a 2020 Acura Rdx. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 70 mph, the vehicle went into limp mode and experienced unintended deceleration to 5 mph with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 18,986.
On July 24, 2022, while driving from champaign-urbana, illinois back to our home in lisle, IL, in a heavy rainstorm, our Rdx suddenly started flashing the engine light and lost power on interstate 57. We were fortunate to be able to maneuver it to the side of the road, and off the nearby ramp at bradley, IL. We ‘googled’ the circumstances on our iphone, to learn that this is considered a serious, potentially life-threatening situation, and that Acura recommended immediate service bulletin 20-053, dated may 25, 2021, states the symptom as “the mil is flashing with loss of power. ” it indicates “corrective action” for the Rdx as “update the pgm-fi and replace the intercooler, the intercooler outlet pipe assembly and the intercooler outlet hose. ” affected vehicles include “all” 2019-2020 Rdx models. ” despite the service bulletin that was issued, many Rdx owners, noted the same response from their local Acura dealer. They note that the dealers “played dumb,” claim they could not locate a service code, nor “replicate the conditions and response” in the shop…. Precisely my experience! in fact, the service receipt, indicates the car was driven less than one mile, hardly sufficient to replicate conditions. Acura client relations has refused to assist. I contacted the ceo jon ikeda but his office has not responded. I fear driving the car in wet conditions.
While driving on I-95 north, the check engine light began flashing on and off. We had been driving in a thunderstorm for approximately 100 miles, when it began flashing. Then suddenly the car began slowing down. There was no response to repeatedly stepping on the gas pedal. As the car slowed down I was able to get over to the shoulder, and put the car in park. Again trying to get a response by stepping on the gas pedal, but there was no response. I shut the engine off, then restarted the car. The car ran fine, after I restarted it. I continued my drive from florence SC to NY, and then returned from NY to florida without any further incident.
1. On dash flashing air bag system off 2. Upon acceleration and getting up to speed it missing like bad gas but its not. I use required premium. 3. Not shifting properly upon acceleration of speed properly.

One week ago 6-20-22, my car started to ‘chug’ and slow down as I was accelerating up a hill on a highway. It was almost as if my car was losing power. When this happened about 10 warnings signs came up on my dash. I drove it directly to the dealership. They replaced my oil saying the pressure was low. All was well for the day after 6-21 when driving it home from dealership. On 6-22 I went to merge onto a local highway from a stop sign with traffic coming at 55-65 mph. My car would not accelerate over 25 and I was unable to pull of. Thankfully I pulled off onto the next exit. I could have easily been rear ended and hurt. This issue since will go away if I shut off my car and turn it back on, but not every time. It is still chugging and losing power when I drive and all the errors on the dashboard are coming up randomly. I drive a lot everyday for work and this problem is really scaring me knowing I or others could get hurt.
The contact owns a 2019 Acura Rdx. The contact stated that while at a stop light, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle failed to move or shift into neutral(n). The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump motor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified but no additional assistance was provided. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 21v215000 (fuel system, gasoline). The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
Under heavy acceleration, the vehicle began "bucking" and then lost all power. The check-engine light began flashing. The engine was still running but did not provide power. I had to pull off the road, shut the engine off and then restart to clear the problem. This has happened twice in two days. The Acura dealer says it is an issue with moisture entering the turbo-charger but did not have any suggestions to correct or prevent this from happening again.
Upon rapid acceleration, pushing the gas pedal down, the engine light started blinking and the car went into limp mode losing all power. This was a serious concern because we had just got off the interstate and if we had been full speed attempting to pass a vehicle, we could have been in a serious accident due to failure of power.
During acceleration on highway to pass a vehicle the Acura Rdx lost power and decelerated. Check engine light came on. . . . Engine lost power to accelerate/maintain highway speed almost causing an accident.
Was driving on the interstate with slight rain and trying to accelerate but then the check engine light started flashing and the car would not accelerate. Speed on the interstate is 70mph, but the car immediately dropped down to 35mph. Traffic behind me had to slow down to avoid an accident as I had to move the car to the side of the road. Restarted the car and the check engine light disappeared.
I was driving at 65 mph on the highway in the left lane during a rainstorm. Suddenly the engine shuttered and began to shut down. I could not accelerate the engine. The engine light came on and was flashing. I was fortunate enough to maneuver through traffic to the shoulder of the road - sitting there where other drivers would not be expecting to see a car. I turned the car off and sat there in a rainstorm for 15 minutes hoping not to get hit. I started the car and it seemed to work fine for the remained of the trip with no issues or engine light flashing. Very dangerous situation for me - I shutter to think what might have happened if my wife was driving with the kids and this happened. She would make me sell the car today.
On 2/3/22, after only 12 hours of owning the vehicle, I merged onto 287 south and upon speeding up and merging into the center lane, I lost all acceleration and my dash lit up like a christmas tree. An 18 wheeler was coming behind me in the middle lane at 65 mph while my car slowed down to 25 mph. I was thankfully able to get over to the side of the road without being hurt or even killed. Upon bringing it into the dealer, the codes showed that it was a bad engine coil and spark plug. This was repaired under warranty. Fast forward to 5/16/22, I exited the highway, came to a complete stop at a red light. Upon the light turning green, I went to accelerate and limp mode activated again. I have video of the incident and dealership is unable to find any issues with the vehicle. Both times it was either raining or had just stopped. I have asked that the intercooler be replaced as part of bulletin 20-053 however the dealership states my vehicle is not part of this bulletin although it lists the model and year. This is a serious problem that requires a recall. I hope Acura is not waiting for someone to get hurt before they take action!.
I was driving for approx. 3 hours on the interstate and exited to return home. After stopping at the red light my car would not excel. The rpm where moving up to 4 plus but the car wouldn’t go over 20 miles an hour when pressing the excelerator. No warning lights came on but I pulled over and turned the car off trying to decide what to do. I couldn’t get back on the road driving 20 miles an hour because it wouldn’t be safe. I decided to restarted the car then I drove 2 miles home without incident. I will take the car to the dealer after the holidays because I’m scared to drive it. I bought the car with 25,000 miles and it now has 32,000 miles on it.
2019 Rdx with 20k miles. Was accelerating to go over a rise from low speed to passing speed and power cut out and had to pull to shoulder. Was slightly raining when occurred and 44 degrees out. Check engine light came on. Had to stop vehicle on side of road as power was lost. If wasn’t 0600 in the morn and during busier hours it could’ve caused an accident since I was accelerating to merge. Dealer couldn’t find any codes since vehicle goes into essentially protection mode from just accelerating. Going from 15-55mph. Told me to bring it in again if it happens. I may be injured the next time it happens. Is extremely unsafe where all power is cut when you need it the most. Had vehicle for 1000 miles and has happened once already. Very scary feeling.
Last week I was driving the 2020 Acura Rdx on the massachusetts turnpike during very wet weather. Three hours into a planned four hour drive, while accelerating up a hill, the car power cut out. Engine was running, but no oomph. Check engine light, and other lights, flashing on dashboard. Car kept slowing, and there was no place to pull over at that point on the pike (mile 68). Finally, car made it to crest of hill (at that point going 15 miles an hour in the right hand lane and still slowing), and a pull out spot appeared. Pulled over, but a very harrowing experience. Had the car towed to the closest Acura dealer (this was clearly an issue that would be covered by warranty. . . ). They checked out car, and said that they had seen the same problem before, and that fix was to replace the "intercooler kit", which required a part that was on a long back order. Researching other threads, I find that this has happened to others. . . And that a "fix" can be to turn off the car, and restart after a few minutes. Car seems to drive fine again. . . In any case, I later moved the car to the dealer where we bought it, and they had the part in stock. Apparently, when it is very wet and a driver accelerates hard, the old part lets some water enter the turbo charger, at which point the car goes into "limp" mode. Apparently, Acura has an outstanding service bulletin on this issue. The reason for my filing. . . I think that this a recall issue. I love the car, and am glad that it is fixed (at least, I hope it is!), but this is a very bad problem and should not happen. Any questions, please let me know. But I would encourage Acura to do a formal recall. . .
I was driving and all of a sudden the car started to slow down and wouldn’t accelerate. After a couple pushes on the pedal it just completely shut off. Every mechanical light was on or flashing. I was in the middle of the road terrified but was able to steer over to the side of the street. I called 911. 2 gentlemen tried helping push it out of the way of traffic but we couldn’t get the car in neutral. I was able to get a tow to the dealership and they claimed nothing was wrong. My safety and other drivers were out at risk because I was blocking an entrance lane to a busy shopping center and a police officer had to park behind me. There was no warning, it came out of nowhere. I know there is a class action suit regarding this issue. I refuse to drive the car.
While driving on a two lane road at app 60 mph, we accelerated to pass a slower car, our 2019 Acura Rdx lost power and coasted down to about 20 mph and the check engine light was flashing. We had no control over the speed of the vehicle (limp mode), which was very scary and could have caused a serious accident. It was raining earlier but not at the time of the incident. This should be a recall and not just a Acura service bulletin 20-053 since it can be life threatening.
I own a 2021 Acura Rdx that was purchased new in February 2021. In the 11,500 miles I have driven it, there have been zero problems until yesterday. However, yesterday, when driving on an interstate highway at 70 mph, in the rain, while passing a semi truck, my Acura Rdx suddenly went into limp mode and the check engine light began flashing. After pulling over to the berm, and driving in the limp mode to the next exit, I turned the engine off. When I turned the engine back on it functioned normally and the check engine light went out. The engine has functioned normally for the approximately 100 miles I have driven since that time. Since there is no problem now, I have not taken the vehicle to the dealer to be checked since I felt that they would find nothing. When looking up this problem I found that mine is not an isolated case, and this same thing has happened to other Acura Rdx owners. For that reason I am reporting the problem. I have also written to Acura to tell them of the problem. This was a very scary situation to have the engine suddenly, and without warning, go into limp mode while on a busy interstate highway. Fortunately, in this case I was able to safely get to the berm of the road, but that might not always be possible. I have no idea when this might happen again, which is also scary. It is also very strange that by turning the engine off and then back on the problem disappeared. If requested, I would be happy to have Acura look at my vehicle if it would help to find the root cause of this problem. Thank you for your review of this problem.
For the second time, while accelerating in rainy conditions, the engine lost all power and went into limp mode. The check engine light came on and blinked. I was able to pull over and turn the car off and then back on the the check engine light was gone.
This car has 21,000 miles, while accelerating the car lost power and the engine light came on, almost caused a severe crash with semi truck. There are numerous articles post about this exact same problem with 2019 and 2020 Acura Rdx and some information indicates it was due to solvents used in the manufacturing process of the in tank fuel pumps. It is more pronounce in warmer climates and rain. Acura needs to issue a recall before people get killed from this deficiency in their product.
