1 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2005 Acura RL

Failure Date: 11/09/2018

Tl the contact owned a 2005 Acura Rl. The contact stated that her son was driving and approached a crash that had already taken place. The victim of the crash was ejected from the vehicle and was lying in the road. The contact applied the brakes and attempted to avoid a vehicle that was stopped in the road. The contact's son swerved into the other lane and crashed into the vehicle that was involved in the crash as well as the vehicle that was stopped in the middle of the road. The driver's vehicle flipped over onto the shoulder of the road and then landed upright again. The contact's son sustained head trauma, cuts to the eyes, a broken nose, and one of his eyelids was detached from his eye and had to be repaired by a plastic surgeon. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital where he remained for a month and a half, battling infections during his recovery. A police report was filed. The contact stated that only the driver's side air bag deployed. The other five air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to a wrecking yard to be inspected. The contact retrieved the vehicle and took it to her residence. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 130,000.

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

Srs light illumimated. Took to Acura dealer, stated opds sensor and/or opds unit failure. $1200-$1600 to replace 1 or 2 units. Airbags will not deploy in event of impact. This is totally a safety issue and should be covered by the manufacturer.

3 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2000 Acura RL

Failure Date: 05/08/2015

Srs light on the dash stays on. It is my understanding that the airbags will not deploy with light on. I had an independent mechanic determine that the airbag control module needs to be replaced. I believe this should be a repair that should be covered by a manufacturer warranty. Based on review of the safercar. Gov website there are several other incidents of this same problem for this make, model and year.

4 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2000 Acura RL

Failure Date: 02/14/2014

The srs light has come on and stayed on. Air bags will not deploy with the light on.

5 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2004 Acura RL

Failure Date: 10/11/2012

My wife was entering a bend in the road and came upon a car stopped in her lane, with no brakes lights!!! she attempted to swerve to the shoulder but it was too late. She impacted the car in the rear, slightly offset to the right (passenger) side. The front of her car impacted slightly offset to the left (driver's) side. She braced for impact with her left hand on the wheel. The passenger side airbag (empty seat!) deployed but the driver's airbag did not!! the full force of the impact was absorbed by her hand, shattering her wrist. She needs surgery to piece it back together and the surgeon estimates a 12-18 month recovery time. She's a professional driver with ~20 years experience and drives a school bus for a living. No way should her airbag not have deployed. Her career and our financial well being is in serious jeopardy because of the severity of her injury. I've never sued anyone in my life and don't care for the practice, but I don't see how I can't, this is just not right.

6 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2002 Acura RL

Failure Date: 01/15/2010

The contact owns a 2002 Acura Rl. The contact was driving 45-50 mph when the srs light illuminated. The dealer advised that the vehicle would need an occupant position detection system. The dealer replaced the occupant position detection system. The failure recurred within eight months. The dealer then advised the contact to cycle the ignition faster to correct the failure and reprogrammed the computer to deactivate the srs light. The contact was concern that with the reprogramming of the computer, the air bag may not deploy in the event of a crash. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 69,000. Updated 01/03/11.
