Srs light stays on problem with sensor for airbag.
2001 Acura Rl. Srs light is on. Dealer checked and found problem with opds unit and sensor and replaced. After replacement, re-initialized the system but the srs stays on. Now, turn out that the srs control unit is bad. Dealer said it will cost approx $2000 to replace the srs control unit. Why srs control unit is not considered a safety item?.

2001 Acura 3. 5 Rl srs light elluminates opds sensor or module are replaceable under warranty but opds brain or unit is not covered and this is the part that is causing the srs light to elluminate. Dealer says it is faulty and can not be replaced free. So now I have no air bags in the event of an accident.
Opds sensortriggers srs: srs light reset 5 times since 02/04 one time by dealership right before purchase of pre certified veh in 2004. The last time was July of 2007 when I was told I would need a new cable reel and drivers air bag priced at 1468. 00 at that time I researched srs problems and called a different dealership to find out that there was a warranty extension in March 2006. The passenger side opds sensor was faulty and replaced 05/05. Labor was charged 130. 50. I had to find out through a different dealership service department that this has been a issue with Acuras. I then went back to the local service department and brought it to their attention they owed me monies back for the labor charged due to the warranty extention. There was no notice that went out to the customers even if they had paid for the services now covered no one was notified except the service departments. I was told I would have to file through the cooperate office in order to get my refund. I called corporate and filed a complaint about the monies owed and a charge of 1468. 00 to replace an airbag that had never been deployed. They initially agreed to pay for the parts only. When I advised corporate and the service department that I wanted the airbag undeploy released to a bodyshop for further investigation that a deployed airbag would not be of any help in determining a malfunction of airbag system, they agreed to replace the drivers side airbag and the cable reel at no charge. This is a real concern what would have happened had the car been involved in a collision and the airbag system was faulty?.

Srs light appears in dash indicating failure of the opds unit (occupant position detection system) this unit is responsible for airbag/seat belt detection and deployment. This component should be replaced free of charge due to the fact that it is seat belt/airbag related. This component fails frequently according to independent online service technical support.
2000 Acura Rl. The consumer states has a srs sensor in the passenger's seat. He feels it is defective because it is on. The dealership told him to replace the sensor, which indicated that the whole seat must be replaced. If the sensor is not replaced the passenger's side air bag may not deploy. This problem has not yet been fixed. The manufacturer put the information in their database.
S. R. S light came on and took it in to the dealer on Nov. 4, 04'. The dtc code requiered to have the left seat belt hoster replaced. On Nov. 7th the s. R. S light came back on, so I took the car back to the dealer (hoy fox Acura). The dtc code this time was 15-3 witch indicates that the opds sensor or opds unit now needs to be replaced. The only thing is that this time it will not be covered under warranty like the seat belt hoster (since seatbelts have lifetime warranty). So it seams to me that there is defenetly something wrong with the airbag system sensors and that a recall should be send out for this. Instead of one having to pay $532 for parts, $75 for labor and $75 for diag. , plus taxes.
While driving srs light illuminated. Srs light was replaced three times, but problem recurred. The consumer was told that this problem could cause the seat belts and the air bags malfunction.
Srs malfunction 6 different times after being fixed each time. 2000 Acura 3. 5rl VIN # jh4ka9652yc007814.
