1 Body problem of the 2012 Acura TL

Failure Date: 07/25/2022

In an auto collision where a car rear end the vehicle from an idle position into an 18-foot box truck in front which was also idle. The vehicle smashed in the front and back which it was deemed a total loss and the airbag did not deploy. This caused the driver to have several injuries including a head concussion. When contacted the dealer service department where recall maintenance had been performed, I was instructed to contact the airbag manufacturer. The vehicle inspected by insurance adjuster (geico). There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the failure of the airbag deploy.

2 Body problem of the 2003 Acura TL

Failure Date: 06/20/2022

This complaint is in regards to the 2003 Acura model Tl, which is made by Honda and seems to have a notorious car frame rust/rot problem due to designing the ac compressor drain line to dump water directly onto the cars front subframe/engine cradle causing it/them to be compromised to a serious extent that could lead to major injury and or death if not spotted and dealt with. All complaints clearly indicate the problem is on the right/passenger side of certain hondas and Acuras in the early 2000's. There is no major issues in regards to driver side frame rott. How is that? because it's a problem created by a variable located there and that is explained here in this complaint. By the grace of god, I had a sway bar link issue making a ticking noise and asked my mechanic to get it onto the lift a take a look. He told me that I should, "drive it home, park it and start looking for another car. Put it this way, if you were to hit a bad pothole you could have been in a serious situation. " Honda has had an innumerable amt of complaints regarding the same issue and it should have been recalled and redirected the drain line, and ppl suffering this issue should have been compensated for the repair (if even possible to do). I will attach photos if permitted to show the extent of the rust on the front frame of the vehicle. Sad nobody has done anything to remedy this. Disgusting.

6 Body problem of the 2005 Acura TL

Failure Date: 06/12/2020

The dash has developed a crack on the passenger side right over the area where the front passenger side airbag is located. This could possibly create a problem in the proper deployment of that air bag. Apparently, this is a common problem with this generation (3rd- '04 to '08) Acura Tl. There are many similar complaints by owners posted online going back many years now about this very problem, yet Acura/Honda has apparently never addressed it. They apparently seem content to consider it a cosmetic problem only as several posters/owners have mentioned, rather than addressing the potential safety issue regarding proper airbag deployment. From the numerous reports of other owners found online, it would seem logical to presume that this is a result from a manufacturers defect or design flaw that Acura seems to want to ignore.

8 Body problem of the 2013 Acura TL

Failure Date: 03/28/2019

The struts/shocks no longer hold the hood open/up. Unable to check engine/fluids without using some other means to hold the hood open/up. First time it happened I was almost struck by the unexpectedly closing hood.

9 Body problem of the 2008 Acura TL

Failure Date: 12/22/2018

When opening the hood of the car, the hood doesn't stay up. Yesterday, it happened 4 times. The first time, it came down when I opened it to look under the hood. Later,, it came down on another person's arm while he was looking under the hood -- it had been opened for a couple of minutes before it came down. The third time, we had the car at the mechanic and they mentioned that they had to hold the hood up to look under the car. In the fourth incident, the hood came down when another person was bending over to look under the hood and hit him in the head. It appears that both hood supports need to be replaced, but it seems odd that both would fail at the same time. Additionally, there has always been a problem with the front doors not staying open when the car is parked on a slope -- the doors swing back shut unless you hold them open.

10 Body problem of the 2002 Acura TL

Failure Date: 12/17/2018

We got an April 2019 letter for an important safety recall which came too late! my car was totaled in a accident in which both airbags deployed. It did cause hurtful pressure on my grandson's chest with an emergency bill over $500 and 2 days of losses wages. Ok for which we had no compensation. Car was in motion on highway street in which the other party was ticketed on an illegal u turn.

11 Body problem of the 2004 Acura TL

Failure Date: 10/16/2018

The dashboard panel of my 04 Acura Tl is severely cracked. My concern is if in the event an airbag did deploy due to false sensors or even due to an accident, how much damage will this cause me? I understand that an airbag will annihilate the dash if activated and hopefully damages are minimal but that was tested with a dashboard panel that was fully intact. I'm a little concerned since I also have 98 forerunner and the dash panel is nearly emaculant. I feel there is a manufacturing defect in the plastic in these vehicles that should be recalled and fixed.

12 Body problem of the 2004 Acura TL

Failure Date: 09/09/2018

Struts snapped on highway.

13 Body problem of the 2013 Acura TL

Failure Date: 08/24/2018

I had the hood up in order to put in windshield washer fluid. Just when I stepped away the hood fell down. I tested it again and noticed that it would stay up only if it was up all the way. However, if it I touched it lightly or moved it down just a tiny amount, the hood then falls down luckily my head or arm was not under the hood when it fell down. I immediately took it to the dealer. I was advised that the oil in the 2 piston like shock absorbers which hold up the hood, looses viscosity and the pistons have to be replaced. The car has just under 60,000 miles and the hood is rarely opened. It was interesting that the dealer had the parts in stock. That tells me these pistons fail regularly. After the repair was completed, I also noticed that the replacement pistons for the hood were much stronger than the original ones.

14 Body problem of the 2005 Acura TL

Failure Date: 07/23/2018

I am the original owner of this vehicle, and have routine maintenance performed on it at regular intervals. On July 23, 2018, approximately 4:15pm, I was exiting via reverse from a parking space at a local shopping center. I shifted the car into drive, proceeded forward at a speed of 3mph, for less than ten feet to make a slight left turn, when there was the sound of breaking metal, and the car came to a halt. The car was in drive, foot on gas, but would not move. I struggled to shift the gear into park, then restarted. The car would not go into drive, with great difficulty I got it into reverse, then rolled backwards into a handicapped parking space. The gear was now stuck in reverse, and key was locked in ignition. I immediately applied the emergency brake, turned on hazard lights, and exited the vehicle. I placed phone calls to a towing company, and my mechanic. Upon inspection, it was determined "the driver's front axle assembly snapped in two. The axle shaft had rusted underneath the vibration damper. The passenger front axle assembly looked rusted". At my direction, the mechanic replaced both front axle assemblies. Both myself and the mechanic searched for a recall, or even an update to the manufacturer's recommended maintenance/service, but found nothing. Car axles should not randomly snap in half. I have had absolutely zero issues with my vehicle leading up to the event. Thankfully, no one was harmed when this occurred. Had I been traveling in a drive lane, whether it was in the shopping center or interstate, no doubt there was going to be a catastrophic situation, resulting in bodily harm and vehicle damage to myself and others. A copy of the repair bill is attached in the record for your reference. On August 7, 2018, I reported this to Acura, reference case # 08888084.

15 Body problem of the 2006 Acura TL

Failure Date: 06/29/2018

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Acura Tl. The contact stated that while stationary, the dashboard on passenger's side, near the air bag, fractured from the location of the windshield, down to the glove compartment. A dealer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that it was a cosmetic concern. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000. Ad.

16 Body problem of the 2003 Acura TL

Failure Date: 03/29/2018

I bought this car new. I only have 79,300 miles on my car. I kept miles low so I could drive it longer. Due to a/c hose dripping on metal, this weakened (rust) the passenger side of my subframe. I found this out when I went in to get the break fluid changed. They told me my break line and fuel line both needed replacing due to rust. Furthermore, due to the subframe issue, the Acura service department told me I would need to replace the subframe too. $2,000 for a subframe and labor. It was recommended I trade it. I asked if the next owner would be aware of the issue and was told no. This is a huge safety issue right now. I see quite a few 2003 Acura Tl's for sale and someone needs to hold someone accountable here. This should have been recalled. Now, is the time, before people (driver, other drivers, and their passengers) get hurt both physically and financially. The Acura manufacturer should have replaced these at the onset. I called the manufacturer. Both my dealer and the manufacturer would do nothing. No compensation, repair, no offer at all. They say, it is out of warranty. The service department recommended me not drive my car much more than a week. A week to find a car isn't easy for anyone, especially me! I have health issues. Buying a car is very complicated, takes research, and car testing takes time. I didn't want anyone to get hurt in my car, so I drove it until the break line totally gave out. Besides, I had a huge financial personal project I had to complete with in that month. That took all of my time and was hard enough to complete, due to health issues. I do not work due to my conditions. I am not happy that the dealer did not inform me about this issue sooner, so I could prepare and plan. Now, I am listing it with all it's issues on craigslist. I have no car to look for cars or do anything else.

17 Body problem of the 2007 Acura TL

18 Body problem of the 2006 Acura TL

Failure Date: 12/04/2017

Several large cracks have developed on the front dash board. This include the areas in and around the part of the dash that cover the passenger side air bag. I have used no type of cleaner that would have caused this issue and have not been involved in any serious crashes. A search online shows a large number of vehicles of this make and model with similar issues.

19 Body problem of the 2012 Acura TL

Failure Date: 10/21/2017

Hi I'm wanting to complain about this year Acura making models breaks because in the winter time when you go to press the brakes and start the car the brakes are completely frozen. Also wanted to complain about the headlights the headlights get dull and dingy with wear in tear and get very dull causing it to be very hard to see at night as well as the body all the molding on the top of the roof is peeling off the chrome trim molding please look into this further. My car is a daily driver I drive it everyday I get it a car wash every other day but that should be no reason for the top chrome trim on the roof to start peeling off and be coming undone from your car.

20 Body problem of the 2007 Acura TL

Failure Date: 07/17/2017

Passenger dash above airbag, is cracked. The crack began as a single perforation, coming from the windshield direction outward, directly above where the airbag is housed. One day to the next it just appeared. It began with a single crack in July 2017, now in Nov 2017, an identical crack lays adjacent to the first, approx. 6 inches apart. I use a sunshade whenever I'm not utilizing a covered parking spot. I've never left my car without a shade during any hot days (leather seats get far too hot to sit on even wearing pants, let along shorts or skirts). I've taken my vehicle into 2 different Acura dealerships, who've quoted $2,000+ to replace, with zero help from Acura since there's not an active recall. I've had to restrict all passengers to sit in my back seat, which according to my grandmother, "is disrespectful & demeaning". The perforations are looking more like the sealant used to close a hidden compartment (airbag?) has worn out, and the airbag is close to exploding. I planned to upgrade to an Acura SUV last month, but it appears I'm now forced to resell to the dealership for $2000-$3000 less than the 2 failed deals due to valid concerns. I just can't phantom how Acura refuses to recall an obvious defect in their workmanship that puts so many of their own customers lives at risk. So many complaints of the exact same problem, but the costly remedy remains my problem to pay for 1 way or another?! with the rapid rate at which these cracks are growing and threatening the integrity of what's suppose to be a safety device, I may not have a choice of how to handle this soon. I can't afford to fix it and eating it by trading it in isn't something I can afford either.

21 Body problem of the 2004 Acura TL

Failure Date: 06/19/2017

The contact owns a 2004 Acura Tl. The contact noticed that the dashboard around the air bag area was cracked. The air bags and wiring were not exposed. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.

22 Body problem of the 2008 Acura TL

Failure Date: 01/04/2017

Takata recall - my airbags on my 2008 Acura Tl have exploded on my seats, roof, and side airbags. I don't understand why previously submitted complaints about this issue have not been responded to. My airbag light is on and will not go off and my safety is being jeopardized everyday on this vehicle and it appears for the last decade other owners of the 2008 Tl have reported on the Acura forums what I have, yet for some reason, the recalls are excluding this model. Why, why why????? does it take another death for someone to recognize this???? the vehicle was moving when this occured on an exiting access road.

23 Body problem of the 2008 Acura TL

Failure Date: 06/29/2016

3 issues 1) two vertical cracks overnight on passenger side dash at air bag location-horizontal crack forming-fear of airbag deploying while driving causing me to wreck-should be recall-I no longer feel safe for fear or accidental deployment 2)bluetooth module failure-two batteries and alternator replaced-now have module disconnected-safety issue of not being able to use hfl while driving 3)since buying car in 2008, complained about drivers door closing back on my leg when I open it-have avoided injuries so far-as others stated, I have to kick door open or hold foot on it when exiting vehicle from what I have read many 2008 Tl owners are having the same issues - whats it going to take for NHTSA to force Acura/Honda to address these issues? I dont have $2000 to replace a dash that I caused no part in the failure of. If my airbag deploys on its on while I am driving and I have an accident, there will be a lawsuit.

24 Body problem of the 2006 Acura TL

Failure Date: 05/15/2016

The contact owns a 2006 Acura Tl. While starting the vehicle, the contact noticed a fracture in the dashboard near the passenger side air bag. The contact was afraid to drive the vehicle due to a possible air bag rupture. The vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics who all stated that the air bag could possibly deploy. The dealer was notified, but the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was 100,000.

25 Body problem of the 2006 Acura TL

Failure Date: 05/01/2016

Beginning in may 2016, the dashboard of my 2016 Acura Tl began to crack. The crack propagates along the air bag deployment breakaway seam located on top of the dashboard. The cracking occurs on the passenger side of my car. This is location on the dashboard that the air bag deploys in the event of a substantial collision. My concern is that dust, debris and possibly condensation or liquid can drop into the air bag compartment thereby negatively effecting the deployment of the air bag or rendering the air bag inoperable. The cracking is continuing to propagate along the seam of the air bag compartment. Eventually, the entire air bag could be completely exposed.

26 Body problem of the 2007 Acura TL

Failure Date: 02/15/2016

27 Body problem of the 2003 Acura TL

Failure Date: 02/06/2016

Clear coat is peeling off of the trunk, sides of the car, and roof.

28 Body problem of the 2008 Acura TL

Failure Date: 01/02/2016

Takata recall- passenger roof, seat and side airbags deployed when I hit a curb on the drivers side. How can this be? I have a 2008 Acura Tl. It needs to be considered in the recall. Upon the above mentioned, the passenger side dash has separated from the front passenger frame. This is very dangerous and could separate while driving. All of the damage is on passenger side and not on the drivers side where the impact was. Currently I do not feel safe in the drivers side if the airbags malfunction like that nor can I have passengers in my car. This airbag recall needs to include some 2008 models that are not showing at this time.

29 Body problem of the 2010 Acura TL

Failure Date: 12/22/2015

Air bags deployed during wreck going 35 mph in rain. . Hit breaks and car slid. Damage was to left front bumper on drivers side. . . . Insurance company didn't total car in first claim and came back adding another 1000 to claim which would have totaled car all together. . Now I can't trade and vehicle isn't worth but half of what was paid bc of air bag deployment.

31 Body problem of the 1999 Acura TL

Failure Date: 07/03/2015

The contact owns a 1999 Acura Tl. 34 Body problem of the 2005 Acura TL

Failure Date: 03/19/2015

I got into my car this morning at 10:15 am to go to work and noticed that the dash going from the vent by my windshield to the center speaker in the front middle of the dash. It also travels along the crease of my gauge hood as well. My srs light was on shortly prior to this incident and am curious if this is for some reason the cause. I was not involved in any sort of accident, nor do I drive in any manner to have caused something like this to happen. I did drive the car yesterday, 3/18/15, in the morning and there was no damage like this what so ever. I also had taken the car in to the mechanic and they said that they could not find the source of what was causing the srs light to be on. My car is a decade old, but I condition it and take care of the entire vehicle, so laziness or "sun damage" is not the issue. I am very upset that something like this is happening considering that the leather interior in these cars seem to be very low quality and are tearing apart! multiple consumers also have the same issues that I am having and I too agree that a recall should be issued for multiple defects that this specific year and model vehicles seem to be having.

35 Body problem of the 2004 Acura TL

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

3 cracks have been forming for the last 6 months on my dash from the middle speaker over to the left airbag compartment area. They are now beginning to split. The airbag light also now comes on when there is a passenger riding on the right front seat. Dealership gave me a replacement price of $2500 but that Acura corporate is knocking off less than $200 for "goodwill". This is an obvious defect.
