2 Structure problem of the 2006 Acura TL

Failure Date: 02/26/2016

The dashboard on the driver & passenger side in the area of the air bag is splitting in 2 areas. I observed this when the vehicle was parked overnight. I take good care of my vehicle and this is absurd that this should happen to such a high end vehicle. Loss of equity in vehicle is expected and Acura(Honda) should be held liable and responsible for fixing the issue. A recall notice should be implemented ASAP to avoid lawsuits from customers as myself. The safety issue is that the airbag system integrity has been compromised. Please advise with recommendation. Thank you.

3 Structure problem of the 2007 Acura TL

Failure Date: 10/29/2013

This is a generic complaint. A significant number of vehicles use red indicator dials against a dark background including, but not limited to, the vehicle type noted above. Approximately 10% of the male population is color deficient often making viewing the dial difficult if not impossible. Consideration should be given to requiring easily viewed colors by color impaired individuals, I. E. White or yellow against a dark background or black against white, etc. I've been meaning to suggest this for years but keep forgetting. Thanks.

4 Structure problem of the 2006 Acura TL

Failure Date: 10/19/2013

Crack appeared on passenger side dashboard outlining airbag. I consider this a safety hazard and defect with Acura Tl.

5 Structure problem of the 2005 Acura TL

Failure Date: 06/14/2013

My dashboard recently developed a crack about 6 inches in length on the passenger side dashboard where the airbag is located. I have read where multiple incidences like mine have been recorded for this vehicle & Acura apparently is not accepting responsibility for the obvious defect in this model.

The dealer advised the contact that the dashboard needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 142,000.

7 Structure problem of the 2006 Acura TL

Failure Date: 10/06/2012

This is a car that was bought pre-owned within the last two years. The car was bought in pristine condition. Per Acura's instructions, nothing is to be used to clean the dashboard except a microfiber cloth, which I have done. On oct. 06 2012, I got into the car and found a crack over the driver's side dashboard above the instrument cluster. Additional small cracks are starting to form over the passenger airbag. I am concerned that the cracks may cause problems in the case of airbag deployment.

8 Structure problem of the 2006 Acura TL

Failure Date: 08/25/2012

A five inch crack was seen in the morning upon entrance into the vehicle. Over time the crack has extended to an approximate ten to twelve inch crack which corresponds with the vehicle's passenger side air bag location. The crack appears less visible when the vehicle's interior is hot and becomes more visible when the interior of the vehicle cools. I am concerned about the appearance of the crack and the relation it may or may not have with the air bag.

9 Structure problem of the 2004 Acura TL

Failure Date: 08/17/2012

Small crack started at center of dashboard near the window. In 1 day it has wrapped almost completely around the drivers side of the dashboard and is nearly 2 feet long now. My 1989 Honda accord had a better looking dash after 23 years. This is a major safety issue and needs fixed ASAP by Acura.

10 Structure problem of the 2006 Acura TL

Failure Date: 08/13/2012

2006 Acura Tl was purchased new in the fall of 2005. On or about 8/13/2012 we noticed an 8-inch crack in the passenger side dashboard that ran the length (and beyond) of the right side of the passenger airbag. Two days later the crack had grown to 12-14 inches and another crack had formed on the left side of the airbag and curved around the bottom of the airbag (also 12-14 inches). I called the local Acura dealership and they stated that we would need to bring the car in so they could take pictures and submit a report and we might be able to get a 30% discount on repair (we would end up paying close to $2000). I expressed concern that the piece would fly off when the airbag deploys causing serious injuries or that the cracks would cause the airbag to deploy on its own. The dealership stated that there was no evidence so far that it could cause injuries, but if the piece did fly off that "it won't cause too much damage or injury. " very disappointed that this possible safety issue is not being addressed or remedied by Acura.

11 Structure problem of the 2004 Acura TL

Failure Date: 08/06/2012

Dash board passenger side air bags area and driver side 2 speaker cracked.

12 Structure problem of the 2004 Acura TL

Failure Date: 07/19/2012

I got in my car yesterday after work, to find a crack over 6 inches long on the passenger side dashboard, near where the airbag would be located. Apparently this is a very common problem. Most are reporting more cracks appearing and the cracks growing longer in size. I assume my dash will do the same as everyone else's and become worse. I believe it is temperature/heat related (expansion/contraction) but is no fault of my own. Can you say recall!!!.

13 Structure problem of the 2006 Acura TL

Failure Date: 06/20/2012

Vehicle has developed a 16" long crack on the passenger side air bag to the right on the vertical air bag seam. When driven the crack appears to have grown, therefore we have stopped driving it completely until this safety issue is fixed. We fear that the passenger side air bag could be negatively effected by this crack either premature deployment or not properly deploying in the event of an accident. The car has always been meticulously taken care of and garage kept since we drove it off the dealers lot brand new.

14 Structure problem of the 2004 Acura TL

Failure Date: 05/21/2012

My wife drives the car on a regular basis. On 5/21/12 she advised a crack @ 2" had developed on the passenger side dash over the air bag. On 5/22/12 the crack had enlarged and is now @ 4" long.

15 Structure problem of the 2006 Acura TL

Failure Date: 04/05/2012

After my Acura hit 100,000 miles, 2 cracks developed in the driver side dashboard. The cracks are right over the airbag and I'm worried that the airbag will be affected and not work properly.

16 Structure problem of the 2012 Acura TL

Failure Date: 02/22/2012

I purchased a new 2012 Acura Tl on 2/8/12. Each day I drive 35 miles to and from work on interstate 75 with a posted speed of 70 mph. Within a few days I noticed that when the car reached 70 mph a persistent high frequency vibration came up through the driver's side floor and in particular through the accelerator pedal. By the time I reached work or home my entire right foot and calf was numb and buzzing. It felt as though I had 'fallen asleep" and caused the nerves to be temporarily non-functional. I took the car to the dealer and they told me the tires were out of balance, however, when they checked them they were not. Then they told me that the front right tire had a tear in it and it would have to be replaced. They ordered a new tire and installed it and tried to charge me $399 but thankfully the manager gave it to me a no cost. The car has been to the dealer six times. At the dealer urging I opened a complaint with Honda headquarters. File number b012012-04-1601260. The representative I dealt with was "parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia),5 u. S. C. 552 (b) (6) who can be reached at "parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia),5. U. S. C 522 (b) (6). Three calls were recorded by Honda. One of the senior persons at the dealership confided in me that everyone at Acura knows about this problem and there is no fix. "parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 522 (b)(6) told me the same. She actually called the vibration a "vehicle characteristic. " vibration at 70 mph is not a good thing and in time it may lead to catastrophic consequences. Both Acura and the dealer refused to buy me out of this vehicle and so last Saturday I traded out to another car at a substantial cost to myself. Updated 07/09/12.

17 Structure problem of the 2004 Acura TL

Failure Date: 02/10/2012

I recently noticed two large cracks that appeared in the dashboard on the passenger side above what I believe to be the airbag compartment. One day they were just there and were not the result of an accident. I have not taken the vehicle to the dealer, as there is more than enough written about this problem to know what the answer will be. This appears to be caused by inferior materials and poor engineering used in a high end vehicle. It's embarrassing for Acura to say the least. I have a 1989 Toyota supra and the dash is in perfect condition, so I don't want to hear "normal wear and tear", that's bull. Acura needs to step up to the plate and be accountable. As others have stated, there could also be links to air bag failure or pre-mature deployment, which would be a much more serious issue. We pay a significant price from our hard earned dollars for these upscale vehicles. We should not have to pay for Acura's choice to use cheap material and poor designs. Now is the time for the consumer protection industry to step in and take action since the individual is left to the mercy of the manufacturer.

18 Structure problem of the 2006 Acura TL

Failure Date: 01/03/2012

I have bought a 2006 Acura Tl from pambroke pine dealers and after driving the car for a year I started noticing some cracks on the driver side dashboard. I don't understand how these things can happen to a car that is around 29k and it so called a luxury car. Before buying this car, I used to drive a 1995 Toyota corolla which my dad bought it brand new the first time and it was always parked in the street with the sun hitting it full blast and nothing happened to it. Therefore, I would like to know why something like this would ever happen to a car that is so expansive. Furthermore, if this string like cracking continues, it might affect the air bags which is a huge safety issues which Acura fails to see or they are just willing to make their money and don't care about their buyers.

19 Structure problem of the 2005 Acura TL

Failure Date: 12/16/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Acura Tl. The contact stated that the dashboard material was severely cracked at the windshield area and the passenger side air bag. 20 Structure problem of the 2006 Acura TL

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

Cracks starting appearing in the dashboard on the passenger side where the airbags deploy. This is not only an unwelcome sight for a premium car but wonder about the effectiveness of the airbags. This is an obvious defect.

21 Structure problem of the 2004 Acura TL

Failure Date: 09/02/2011

Major crack has developed on passenger side of dash board along the passenger air bag and air bag safety light is coming on and off sporadically on dash board. This is a huge safety concern for me. I have found that this is common problem on Acura Tl's, and is not being addressed as a recall or safety concern by Acura/Honda. The cost of repair is huge, and for a car costing as much as this one cost, it is completely unacceptable for such pre-mature failure.

22 Structure problem of the 2005 Acura TL

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

2005 Acura Tl. Consumer writes in regards to dashboard split repairs the consumer stated there are seven jagged cracks; starting with the most severe which are over the passenger airbag and ending at the instrument panel.

23 Structure problem of the 2005 Acura TL

Failure Date: 08/04/2011

I own a 2005 Acura Tl and purchased it new. I enjoy the car, however, noticed a crack that formed directly over the passenger's side airbag impression on the dashboard in August of 2011. The car had approximately 75,000 miles on it at the time, and has always been garage kept. I now have 83,000 miles on the vehicle, and the original crack that formed has now grown vertically from where the dash connects to the windshield all the way down to the glove box access. Additionally, several other cracks have formed around the passenger's side airbag impression on the dash, and most recently, I have a crack that formed on the driver's side of the dash. I have owned three other Honda/Acura products, and have never experienced this issue before. I have contacted the dealer several times, and right now am in the process of having a regional manager review my case. Even before hearing back from the regional manager, the dealer has already informed me that some "capital participation" will be required from me, and that the dashboard costs $1,850 not including tax. I am waiting to hear back what they will do for me, but based upon other comments from other Tl owners I have seen on-line, I am not overly optimistic. Obviously aesthetics are a factor in this case, but more importantly, I am worried about safety of any passenger that may be riding in my car.

Crack started on passenger airbag in the dashboard. Now it has spread all throughout the dash and I am concerned with the safety of the car due to the cracks which have formed along the airbag. Have done research and it seems that it is a fairly common problem among this model car.

32 Structure problem of the 2009 Acura TL

Failure Date: 08/27/2010

The lower part of the dashboard, at mid level on the left and right sides next to the vent openings, is finished with a reflective material that causes severe side mirror glare when driving with sunlight coming from the rear. The glare is so bad, that it creates a blind spot in the side view mirror. When this happens, the glare almost completely covers the entire surface of the mirror, making it impossible to see whatever might be in the next lane or behind. In an emergency situation, if you come across something in the road and must change lanes, if you look into the mirror, you can't see what is in the lane next to you because of the glare. This could lead to an accident, particularly if there is not enough time to turn and look.

33 Structure problem of the 2005 Acura TL

Failure Date: 08/03/2010

Factory dashboard developed a 12 inch crack over the passenger airbag at 5 years, 83,000 miles. Crack appeared suddenly as opposed to a slow progression. Not used any cleaning products but was exposed to heat and sun under normal conditions of south florida. Car is not under factory warranty however Acura dealership explained that they have observed this happening to other Tls and the company was offering a "good will" where customers would pay between $250 and $500 for the replacement of the dashboard while Acura headquarters would cover the rest. The actual amount to be paid by the owner is suggested by the dealership on behalf of the owner and the final amount is decided by Acura headquarters. Total cost of the job is approximately $1,700. Acura accepted a good will for my vehicle in the amount of $250, which was my initial offer, and repaired the dash in 3 days while providing a loaner vehicle for the duration of the repair at no additional cost.
