2 Front Suspension Lower Ball Joint problem of the 2004 Acura TL

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

I have not been contacted about the airbag recall, the potential problem with the accelerator pedal and the driver side lower ball joint recall. Several years ago I exited a highway, came to a stop sign and when I made a right turn the drivers side ball joint broke. I had the repair done and luckily I didn't hurt ao or myself. Thank you stay safe. I think it was in 2015.

3 Front Suspension Lower Ball Joint problem of the 2008 Acura TL

Failure Date: 08/24/2014

On 08/24/2014, few minutes after leaving my house, while making a left turn at a local intersection w/ speed < 10 mph, suddenly I heard this loud metallic noise, n I felt my car had dropped a bit. My car stopped right in the middle of street, n could't move at all. Lower ball joint had severed. Passenger front wheel is tilted outward at a 60 degree angle. Right front axal got pulled out of transmission. Car body damaged because all the unsupported weight placed on tilted wheel. There're witnesses, and my mom is w/ me at the time of incident. Had aaa towed it to the shop and since it was closed on Sunday, I had to wait till Monday to call them for quotes. I was gonna have my insurance taking care of it, but figured this has nothing to do with me, I didn't do anything wrong, n the car never had any major accidents. I did almost all a1b1 services at Acura dealer and mostly thomas Acura located in covina. I was there for service on July 16th, 2014, n the report they gave me never mentioned anything about ball joint. I called thomas Acura on Monday, 08/25/2014 regarding the incident, the guy name josh wanted me to bring in the car so they can inspect it so they can determined who's at fault, but at the same time hinting me there's must be some sorts of impact causing this. I told him there's nothing on the street, and no other party/car has hit my vehicle. I had my car towed from the shop to the dealer n let them inspect it. I also sent Acura north America an email and stated the incident. The guy name lue from thomas Acura called me back on 08/26/14, n told me that there's an impact, n I better have insurance info ready. I am pretty sure Acura n America is gonna take their side. There must be some sorts of defects but seems like there is nothing I can do. My family could be dead if this happened on a highway. Someone needs to do something about this.

7 Front Suspension Lower Ball Joint problem of the 2004 Acura TL

Failure Date: 01/04/2008

On January 4, 2008, while turning left from a stoplight in clifton park, NY, the right front wheel of the my 2004 Acura Tl broke loose and was no longer controllable. I was able to navigate/coast the car to the side of the road. The tow truck driver took the car to northeast Acura. At the time of the incident, the car had 61,634 miles on it. I didn't hear from northeast Acura for over a week. The service advisor (stephen wittek) verified that the ball joint had snapped and it had caused damage to the driveshaft. At this point I asked him if it was normal to only replace one ball joint. He said, normally, you're right. But the left side ball joint didn't show any wear at all. In fact, the right ball joint did not show any sign of wear either. It just broke - it wasn't actually the joint that failed but the suspension arm that held the ball portion of the joint. There was no sign of damage. It just broke. We've never seen anything like this. Note the quotation marks. I called northeast Acura again on Friday, January 18, 2008 at approximately 3:00 p. M. To confirm that the service department would be open on Saturday so that I could pick up my car. I asked the person to ensure they put the broken parts from the repair in my trunk. She stated that they had already disposed of the broken parts. I find it highly doubtful that those parts were not retrievable one day after the repairs were completed. In my subsequent dealings with Acura of north America customer service, the customer service rep (kevin mccarthy) stated that it was my responsibility to request that the part be retained for inspection of material failure. They obviously knew it was material failure (see the quoted passage above) and failed to retain the part or report it to Acura of north America. Had this failure occurred at highway speed (I had just exited off I-87 north in a 65 mph zone), the results of this failure would have been far graver than the nominal damage to my car.

8 Front Suspension Lower Ball Joint problem of the 2002 Acura TL

Failure Date: 12/20/2007

My 2002 Acura 3. 2tl with 77,440 miles was in for an alignment at a goodyear gemini store, when they said they would not align it because my lower ball joints where loose by about 1/8 of an inch. So I called the local Acura store service department and they said that it is common. So I asked the service advisor if I should check with parts to see if they have the lower ball joints in stock? he said no I know they have them because we do a lot of replacements of the ball joints. He didn't say it should be a TSB, but if they replace that many failed ball joints maybe it should be a TSB. I take really good care of my car, and I am in the automobile leasing business, so I know some things about cars. I feel it needs to be investigated.

9 Front Suspension Lower Ball Joint problem of the 2002 Acura TL

Failure Date: 11/19/2007

On November 19, 2007 there was a sudden, complete, and catastrophic failure of the front right lower ball joint on my 2002 Acura. The failure occurred while the car was moving at five to ten miles per hour on a side street in south bend, indiana. When the failure occurred the car came to a sudden stop as a result of the lower ball joint digging into the pavement and the right front steering tire turned sideways. If the failure would have occurred at normal highway speeds or on the interstate, the result would have been the sudden and total loss of control of the car, resulting in death, or serious injury. Acura's response was to ignore the complaint. The Acura web site noted that there were recalls for similar problems in 1996, 1997 and 1998, and that the defective ball joints were replaced under those recalls. I immediately notified Acura by fax the morning of November 20th and by a follow up letter of January 23, 2008. The only response that I received was a telephone message the afternoon of November 20th from a customer service representative and a later phone call basically disclaiming any responsibility for the problem or resulting damages. I have copies of the repair invoice totaling $1,912. 52. All of the repairs were necessitated by the failure. The left steering knuckle was replaced as well because it was a sealed unit, and the mechanic could not inspect it and could not assure me that the car would not suffer the same catastrophic failure. I provided Acura with photographs taken by my sons camera phone immediately after the failure and before the car was towed which show the damage, which I could email to you. I retained the failed parts at my home. The failure that occurred at less than 105,000 miles with no warning from a manufacturing or design defect. Acura refused to look inspect my vehicle or the parts or to take any action in response to my complaints. Because no one was injured or killed this time, it wasn't important to Acura.

Failure Date: 07/01/2006

12 Front Suspension Lower Ball Joint problem of the 2004 Acura TL

Failure Date: 06/26/2006

I was driving my 2004 Acura Tl on a recently repaved highway when the wheel fell off the axle without warning. There were no preceding noises or changes in handling. Fortunately, I was able to pull off the road quickly and avoid injury. The car is still under warranty, so I contacted Acura Tlc service and was towed to the nearest dealer's referring auto body shop. Acura evaluated the car, and the service manager told me that it would not be covered under warranty, and to file a claim with my insurance. The auto body mechanics and my insurance adjuster both felt that it should be covered under warranty. Acura dealership was contacted by the auto body shop and asked to take a second look; they declined. I contacted Acura client services and requested a regional service manager to evaluate the car. They declined. One week after the incident, Acura client services made their final determination not to cover this incident. Ultimately, the lower ball joint was found to have snapped without evidence of impact or wear and tear. It was repaired with a new lower ball joint, control arm, axle, tire, wheel, and front quarter panel at the expense of my auto insurance provider.

13 Front Suspension Lower Ball Joint problem of the 2001 Acura TL

Failure Date: 11/05/2005

The contact stated the front right lower ball joint failed while driving. The ball joint came apart, causing the collapse of the suspension, and loss of control of the vehicle. 15 Front Suspension Lower Ball Joint problem of the 1996 Acura TL

Failure Date: 11/19/2003

This letter was sent to Acura: have a 1996 Acura 2. 5 Tl that was purchased at radley Acura. My VIN # isjh4ua 2655tc000042. I now know that there was a recall and saw that an Acura 2. 5 Tl VIN # jh4ua2656tc001460 collapsed due to the lower joint breaking on may 22, 2003. I had to replace my lower ball joints on the front of my car on 11/19/2003. As I drove into the car dealership, I was not driving on a rough road surface. I mentioned nothing about driving on a rough road surface. My car was making a very loud noise when I drove into the surface area. For the past 3 years I told the radley dealership about the noise in my passenger front suspension. Each time they told me they would lubricate the area because the bushings needed lubrication. No one ever told me that they would check the ball joints. Pam vaughan (Acura service advisor) should remember that my vehicle was lubricated because I talked with her each time I had the problem. At this time my car was still under warranty because I had purchased an extra 3-year warranty on the car. I did have a problem with a noise in my front suspension as early as 7/22/96 (see receipt). Radley said they just tightened the suspension. The dealership did not have the parts to replace the ball joints and they did not have a loaner car to give me so that I could leave the car. Not until I read the recall notice after the repair that 124,875 cars were recalled that I realized that I should not have driven that car home because the ball joint could have separated causing the front suspension to collapse and steering controllability to be reduced. The dealership should have informed me of this.

16 Front Suspension Lower Ball Joint problem of the 1996 Acura TL

Failure Date: 05/22/2003

I own a 1996 Acura 2. 5tl. A couple days ago while driving my passenger side wheel collapsed due to the lower ball joint breaking. I conducted research to see if there had been a recall on that part ,and in fact there was. The problem im facing is that it only covered certain vehicles with certain VIN numbers(jh4ua2. . . . Tc021065 through jh4ua2. . . Tc025075)my VIN # is jh4ua2656tc001460. I understand that my vehicle doesn't fall within those numbers but I experienced the same problem and don't think I should have to pay if in fact this is the same defect that happened to all those other vehicles.
