Acura TLX owners have reported 252 problems related to engine and engine cooling (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Acura TLX based on all problems reported for the TLX.
My 2017 Acura was involved in a low-speed collision where it failed to stop in a timely manner, resulting in a total loss declaration. This vehicle had open safety recalls (including the fuel pump/rod bearing issues) that remained unrepaired for over 1. 5 years. Despite multiple inquiries, the manufacturer failed to provide a repair timeline or remedy. I believe these unresolved defects directly contributed to the braking failure and subsequent safety incident.

I have a 2016 Acura Tlx 3. 5l j35y6 awd that initially had the safety recall xg1 and the engine was replaced at roughly 140k miles, 40k miles later the replacement engine suffered the same problem, and I am aware that I am not the only person this has happened to as there is currently a NHTSA investigation pe25008 that is related to these replacement engines failing. I have pushed the dealership for full replacement as this is not right and they have not budged as to the replacement. There were no warning lamps as to before the failure. The engine just threw me into limp mode.

Vehicle displays two warnings under normal usage. First warning is emissions system issue and second is brake system failure. The vehicle runs completely normal and operational, however these two warnings flash on the vehicle. The parking brake indicator also flashes. Vehicle has been to dealership/shop for multiple repairs; around 3-4 repairs within two months with no resolve for the same warning/issue.

The contact owns a 2015 Acura Tlx. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 23v751000 (engine and engine cooling). The dealer was contacted several times for the recall repair; however, the dealer informed the contact that the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated while driving 45-50 mph, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to veer to the shoulder of the road. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to firestone, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine had seized. The vehicle was not repaired and was towed to the residence. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000.
Pe 25008 the engine knock started on 12/22/25. Motorcars Acura recommended get a case number & have the 2020 Tlx towed in for a diagnostic. Online case # xxx towed to motorcars on 12/23/25. Talked to michelle with customer relations & she was going to call motorcars for info. Motorcars, without my permission, pulled the oil pan & inspected the bearings. #6 rod bearing failed. On 1/15/26, michelle with customer relations told me that they will not offer reimbursement to repair. I told motorcars to do the repair on 1/15/26. Picked up the car on 1/21/26 info & pictures attached. I told michelle I hope you reconsider reimbursing me for the repairs. As I told michelle, I am very loyal to Acura as I own (4) Acura’s. Now two of them have engine issue. The 2020 Tlx rod bearing issue that was not included in the recall & my 2012 mdx with the 3. 7 oil consumption issues. Recall performed on 2020 Acura Tlx 3. 5 for rod bearing recall. Crankshaft and bearings were replaced. 24000 miles later, the engine spun a bearing again with all the new internals. All maintenance records were supplied when the car was brought in. Acura is wanting me to pay 40% of the cost for a short block.
While braking and attempting a left turn at an intersection, my vehicle completely shut down with no braking or steering control. Fortunately there were no damages and the vehicle started up again and I was able to clear the intersection. I took the vehicle to an authorized dealer for repair. They indicated that this was a known issue and they were familiar with it. They installed a battery sensor and did brake work as they said there was air in the system. I paid for the repair and approximately a month later, while slowing down for a red signal, the same thing occurred, only this time my vehicle impacted another vehicle, causing damage to both vehicles. I had my vehicle towed to the shop that did the initial repair, but they said they could not find any codes that would indicate that their repairs were faulty.
My 2015 Acura Tlx’s engine has internal issues with rod bearings, as mentioned in other recalls of the same year, yet my VIN does not fall within the recall.
The contact owned a 2019 Acura Tlx. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 mph the vehicle was losing forward velocity and the steering was pulling slightly to the right. The contact stated that the vehicle suddenly and violently turned to the right. The contact was not aware of any warning lights. The contact was unable to counter turn and the vehicle crashed into the guard rail on the right front bumper. The contact stated that the force of the crash shot his vehicle to the left, crossed two lanes of traffic and crashed into the guard rail on the left side of the highway. The contact stated that this crash with the guardrail deployed the drivers side curtain air bag. The contact stated that the force of the crash shot the vehicle to the right and he drove off of the roadway down a slight embankment. The contact was able to stop and exit the vehicle. The contact saw that front bumper had sheared off and that the right fender and wheel well were crushed. The contact stated that the he could see the right tire suspension and control arms were exposed and fractured. The contact stated that the damage of the left side of the vehicle was not as severe. The contact stated that the passenger side curtain air bag had also deployed. The contact stated that the police were on scene and wrote a report. The contact stated that he was transported by ambulance to the er. The contact stated that he had bruises and cuts on his right temple and check and swelling, cuts and bruises on the left cheek and left temple and forehead. The contact stated he was released after treatment. The contact stated that the vehicle had been towed to an impound lot. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The vehicle experienced vibration symptoms and stalled on the road. The day before it stalled, there were rattling noises which prompted me to take the car to the dealership the next day. I had just received the letter about the recall so I knew it was likely related. The car was towed to the Acura dealership but the dealership denied recall coverage, stating the engine number did not match the recall list. During the discovery process, it was later discovered that the engine had been swapped by the dealership in 2018 — a fact that was not disclosed to me at the time of my purchase. The installed engine still falls within the recall defect interval of 2015-2020 but they are resistant to repair. Upon initial inspection of the vehicle, the dealership found metal shavings in the oil indicating internal engine damage. The manufacture requested my oil change records suggesting that this was my fault. I presented the oil change receipts but they still refused recall coverage and the dealership requested approximately $5,000 for diagnostics, if determined my fault. If it is determined that the defect damaged the engine, they will cover the 5k. After several weeks of inspection and going through the manufacture recall process, the dealership determined the recall issue applies my car. However, due to the engine number not on the “list” they are denying my recall coverage. They are seeking $25k for service repairs. After almost 2 months of back and forth, I have been misled and misinformed. I am struggling to get my car repaired under recall.

49,622 mark on my 2020 Acura Tlx awd… auto stop was enabled, car was at stoplight, engine attempted to re-engage but did not and car went into “neutral”… and the lights stayed on. I immediately turned on blinkers to avoid crash and and attempted to re start car, I shifted into park, shut down car and re-started it successfully. I am seeking repair or disablement of the auto stop system, this is a safety hazard to myself and my family as well as others who had to go around while the issue was being troubleshooted. This appears to be related to investigation:ea25004.
In 2022, my 2019 Acura Tlx a-spec received a warranty engine replacement due to a spun bearing. At that time, recall 23v-751 (connecting rod bearing defect) did not yet exist. Recently, the replacement engine developed a pronounced knocking/ticking noise at idle and during light acceleration. Multiple independent mechanics and an Acura service department confirmed the noise is abnormal and consistent with connecting rod bearing wear as described in the recall. Acura advised that my VIN is not included in the recall because the original engine was replaced. However, the replacement engine was supplied by Acura prior to the recall and may contain the same defective components. The dealership and Acura corporate did not inspect the internal components or verify whether the replacement engine used the revised bearing parts — they only referenced the VIN and engine number to deny recall eligibility. I currently have an open case with Acura, and the vehicle is scheduled for diagnostic inspection. I was informed that if the issue is determined to be related to recall 23v-751, diagnostic costs may be reimbursed, but there is no guarantee. This situation raises concern because my symptoms, timeline, and component failure are consistent with the known defect, yet my vehicle remains excluded from coverage. Given the safety implications of possible engine seizure or loss of power while driving, I am requesting that NHTSA review whether vehicles with Acura-supplied replacement engines should also fall under recall 23v-751. All service records and warranty history with Acura are available for review upon request.
On or about October 21–22, 2025, I brought my 2020 Acura Tlx (brown, 99,000 miles, VIN [xxx] ) to goodson Acura of dallas for a recall repair related to engine concerns. The vehicle was returned to me on October 24, 2025. Shortly afterward, the car began to lag and hesitate while accelerating. On November 3, 2025, while driving to a doctor’s appointment on the bypass bridge in morning traffic, the vehicle suddenly stalled and lost power completely. This created a dangerous situation in active traffic. I recently underwent surgery following a serious burn injury, so limited mobility made this stall especially hazardous. After restarting the engine, multiple adas and system-fault warnings appeared. I contacted goodson Acura and was advised to bring the vehicle in. Upon arrival, the service advisor confirmed the warning lights but required a $205 diagnostic fee despite the recall work. Acura client relations opened case no. Xxx and advised the charge should not apply if related to the recall. After waiting several hours, I was told the battery had died and that front camera/adas systems were returning codes. This stall occurred less than two weeks after recall repair and could easily have caused a serious crash or injury. I am requesting a full investigation into the recall repair, the stalling issue, and any related safety defects. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
My engine has been replaced under warranty for connecting rod bearings failing before the recall 23v-751 existed. 40,000 miles later it failed again. I have paper work and other information available upon request. The vehicle is currently on it's third short block replaced by Acura. No cel or anything prior to when the knocking started.
The contact owns a 2016 Acura Tlx. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 23v751000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the contact was unsure if the vehicle was inspected. The contact stated that the dealer had not provided a status update regarding the vehicle or the repair. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle had been at the dealer for several days. The contact stated that it was expensive paying out of pocket for a loaner vehicle while waiting for the vehicle to be repaired due to the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
The contact called on behalf of the owner of a 2015 Acura Tlx. The contact's son received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 23v751000 (engine and engine cooling), and the vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the dealer had cancelled all three recall repair appointments because a technician was not available to repair the vehicle. Most recently, the contact's son was informed that the vehicle needed to be inspected to determine whether the recall repair was needed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The vehicle owner had not experienced a failure.
My 2021 Tlx type s front wheels started to spin upon acceleration at 44k miles. I immediately scheduled an appt for the dealership. Was informed I needed a new transfer case unit, as the splines were shredded. With this, I also had to replace the transmission. All replaced and picked up today 12/2/2025.

The contact owns a 2015 Acura Tlx. The contact received notification of a manufacturer’s recall: 2062837681, for the crankshaft bearing, and took the vehicle to the dealer for the repair. The vehicle was repaired; however, three weeks after the repair, the vehicle started making a knocking sound while accelerating or while idling. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that oil was leaking from the vehicle and that the timing belt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. After retrieving the vehicle from the dealer, the contact became aware that oil was still leaking from the vehicle, with an abnormal odor coming from the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 122,312.
My vehicle had an engine rod bearing issue before the 1st recall, they replaced part of the engine. My vehicle also went through a starter recall and they also changed the rod bearing with the corrected part that was in for the last recall. Currently, my engine is still having the exact same rod bearing issue which is a safety concern for me. It’s currently at ed voyles Acura in chamblee, GA waiting on a decision from corporate Acura. They will determine if they will pay for the repairs of my vehicle due to an old recall. This is the worse experience I have had with the Acura brand and I have had 3 Acuras in my life time. I think Acura is a beautiful car company with great performance. I would love if this situation would allow me a rental until my vehicle is fixed. Thank you.
I am writing to formally request assistance with a premature engine failure on my 2019 Acura Tlx a-spec 3. 5l (VIN: [xxx] , mileage: 95k I have consistently followed Acura’s recommended maintenance schedule, as documented by my service history. My vehicle was also serviced under [insert recall number if you have it] at [insert dealer name], as required by Acura, and I have attached records confirming that the recall work was performed. Despite this compliance with all required maintenance and recall service, my vehicle has experienced a serious engine malfunction. This failure appears to be related to the same type of connecting rod bearing or crankshaft issue currently under investigation by the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA preliminary evaluation pe25008), which covers the 2018–2020 Acura Tlx with the 3. 5l v6 engine. Given that: •I have properly maintained the vehicle as recommended. •the recall repair was performed, yet the engine failure still occurred. •NHTSA is investigating this exact issue as a potential defect affecting safety and reliability. I am respectfully requesting goodwill coverage for the full cost of the necessary engine repair or replacement. If Acura is unable to offer immediate coverage, I request that this case remain open and that I be considered for reimbursement should a recall or service campaign be issued as a result of the ongoing NHTSA investigation. I chose Acura for its reputation for reliability, and I trust that Acura will stand by its customers when a serious issue like this occurs. I look forward to your timely response so we can resolve this matter promptly. Thank you for your attention and assistance. Sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Date of incident : August 31,2025 around 9pm on August 31, I was fixing to accelerate at a green light. I pressed the gas pedal, my car went up to 40 mph and then the engine failed. This is due to a recall on the bearing rods for 2015-2020 Acura Tlx. The incident occurred a month after financing the car. I don't have a warranty, so I opened up a case with the manufacturer to get help with the repair cost (which is 25,500 for a new engine block and 2 new cylinder heads). Unfortunately, Acura denied assistance. The car only has 68880 miles on it. The rod snapped and put a hole through my engine block. Shame on the manufacturer for denying assistance. I'm now stuck making payments on a car I cannot drive. Yes I have insurance, but it was not involved in an accident so I'm helpless there.
While I was driving in the fwy I tried changed lanes and needed to speed so that incoming car wouldn’t hit me but my car was stalling. It has happened 3 times!!! I took it to the dealership and they said it’s the camera and that they don’t have the part on stock. I asked for a rental car meanwhile we wait for the part and they said they can’t do that. I stated to them that the car is dangerous not only for me but for the public if I keep driving it like that. They said there’s nothing they can do!.
Hello I am writing in to see why the Acura Tlx recall range is 2018-2020. The original effected engines for the Tlx were 2015-2020 Acura Tlx 3. 5 v6. The engines for the 15-17 are the same as a 18-20 Acura Tlx.
This car suffers from the engine and rod bearing recall. I took the car to park avenue Acura to complete the recall work. The car had significant damage from the rod bearing issue and the dealership had the car for a month. They replaced the rod bearing, crank shaft, regular fuel pump among other things. Once I received the car, the car failed and became inoperable. This time the high pressure fuel pump became defective. While Acura representative informed me that there is (I) active recall on the high pressure fuel pump (but not on my VIN) and (ii) direct impact of replacing regular fuel pump on leading to high pressure fuel pump failure, as my VIN is not currently acknowledged, my repairs would not be covered. I would like to request that the scope of the VIN numbers be re-evaluated and secondly the impact of fuel pumps replacement leading to other fuel pump be evaluated such that the recall work can cover both issues related to the rod bearing.
High pressure fuel pump failure. Car not functional and every warning light started to light up. The car just was serviced for rod bearing (entire crank shaft needed replacement) and regular fuel pump recall replacement which took the dealership almost a month to complete. I spoke to Acura representative who indicated that when either of the fuel pump or high pressure fuel pump is replaced, the other pump could fail. I'm not sure why both of the fuel pumps (standard and high) are not both replaced as part of the recall if there is substantial damage as was my case. Also, please note that there is an active high pressure fuel pump recall on my car, just not my VIN.
While driving my 2021 Acura Tlx type s, I began losing traction frequently during normal daily driving, especially when turning corners or accelerating from a stop sign or stop light. At first, I believed the issue was related to my tires, so I replaced them, but the same problem continued. After researching online, I discovered that transfer case failures are a known issue on these vehicles, affecting both new and used models. Currently, my vehicle is at the dealership, but they were unaware of this recurring transfer case problem and have no information about it. This is concerning because the failure of the transfer case directly affects traction and stability, creating a potential safety risk to myself and others on the road. It appears to be a systemic issue that Honda/Acura has not yet acknowledged.
Im not sure what fails but the car wont start after coming to a stop with the auto off function and almost caused an accident because when the light turned green I couldnt take off because the car didnt start up and the car behind me almost hit me. It has happened other times at stop signs and any other stop ive made. I have to press the button my self to start up again. I havent had it inspected because I havent had any time. There are no warning lights on.
The dealership (rollit motors at 60 n gilbert rd, mesa, az 85203) appears to have listed the same vehicle—a 2019 Acura Tlx with VIN [xxx] two different listings with significantly different mileage and pricing. •one listing shows 58,703 miles priced at $24,990. •another shows 85,233 miles priced at $21,995. •both listings use the same exact VIN and show identical exterior/interior colors, trim (3. 5l technology pkg w/a-spec), and photos of the same car. When I contacted the dealership, they verbally confirmed “this is the only one we have left” but did not clarify the mileage discrepancy. I have screenshots of both listings and the dealership’s communication. I believe this may be an attempt to roll back mileage or misrepresent vehicle condition to inflate the value, which is potentially odometer fraud. Please investigate this VIN and dealership’s advertising practices. I can provide additional evidence if necessary. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2015 Acura Tlx. The contact stated that while her grandson was driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact called for tow truck service, but the tow truck driver was unable to shift the transmission into neutral(n). The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, and the contact was informed that the mechanic was unable to work on the engine and transmission failures. The contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer and was informed that there would be a cost for the vehicle to be diagnosed. The contact requested a diagnostic test and was informed by the dealer that there was a hole in the oil pan, causing engine oil to leak out and causing the vehicle to stall. The contact had called the insurance company about the hole in the oil pan and was advised to have the oil pan and engine inspected. The dealer found that the hole in the oil pan had been caused by a fractured crankshaft that punctured the oil pan. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 73,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Acura Tlx. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 23v751000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Connecting rod bearing seizure leading to engine failure on the Tlx 2018 engine 3. 5 liter v6 engine. Our 2015 Tlx Acura we had to replace our engine because of the connecting rod bearing seizure and our extended warranty covered it around 2020. In 2023 the second the Acura motor which is Tlx 2018 engine 3. 5 liter v6 failed due to same problem, connecting rod bearing seizure. Acura will not do a recall on that motor. They say because its was manufacture in a different warehouse its not covered or a problem. I know there are other people struggling with the same issues on the 2018 engine. I know there are other investigations on this motor.
The engine seized due to failed cylinder rod and/or engine bearing. This model has had a recall for the exact same issue in the past. It has been repair from when the previous owner had the car. Now this exact same issue occurred on 06/09/2025, after a month of driving the vehicle. I was driving and in the middle of nowhere my engine stopped working and it was hard to steer, couldn't accelerate, car was in motion and had to safely pull off the road. I was stranded in the las vegas heat, in henderson, in the middle of no where for 5 hours. The vehicle is getting repaired at a local repair shop with a replacement engine but I'm unsure if the newer engine has had the recall service done to it or not, so there is a potential possibility that this issue can occur again. I've had to spend 400 including deductible to repair the vehicle and is being repaired with the help of my warranty. I did not get any warnings on dash or anything.
The contact owns a 2020 Acura Tlx. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the check engine warning light, the emission system failure, and electronic parking assist messages were displayed. Additionally, the awd feature had become inoperable, making the vehicle difficult to steer. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. After disconnecting and reconnecting the negative battery terminal, the system was reset and the failure was corrected, but eventually reoccurred. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failures, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was unknown.
