Subject: complaint regarding refusal to perform recall repairs outside the u. S. – VIN wauacgff6f1010676 dear NHTSA office of defects investigation, I am the owner of an Audi A3, model year 2015, VIN wauacgff6f1010676. According to the NHTSA database, my vehicle is subject to two open recall campaigns: – 69by / 21v198 – passenger occupant detection system (pods) – 20yf / 24v110 – evap suction pump I currently reside in ukraine, where the vehicle has been legally imported and registered. Despite the recalls being active and safety-related, the official Audi importer and dealers in ukraine have refused to perform the repairs free of charge. They argue that these recalls apply only to the u. S. Market and therefore decline service, which contradicts the global principle of mandatory recall repairs. This situation puts me and other drivers at risk, as the unresolved recall issues directly affect vehicle safety. I kindly ask NHTSA to review this case and provide guidance on ensuring that recall obligations are respected internationally, or to instruct Audi ag / Audi of America to facilitate the execution of these recalls regardless of the vehicle’s current market. Attached, please find copies of my correspondence with Audi dealers in ukraine and Audi of America. Thank you for your assistance. Hello, I dropped my car off at Audi and dominion in san antonio texas on Thursday July 10th for a repair this was a recall for the fuel pump system in something in the mechatronic controls. They had my car until Saturday I was informed that the repairs were done under warranty. Then on Saturday July 19th as I began to drive the vehicle a alert for my transmission malfunction appeared on my dashboard and I lost first gear. I had my car taken to Audi on dominion where I was informed by several service staff that this is a common malfunction after the last software update that was done the week prior and that it could take up to 48 hours to do the repair and recall warranty work on my vehicle. Audi on dominion has had my vehicle for 5 days and has not given me an answer as to know whether or not the repairs will be approved as this is covered under my extended warranty. My car was working perfectly fine until I was forced to take it in for this recall of which Audi has failed to provide a loaner vehicle or give accurate information as to whether or not the repairs will be covered. I have been informed that I will be responsible for the cost of the repairs. These repairs are only brought upon due to Audis forcing me to bring the car in for the recall repair as it would have voided out the rest of my vehicles warranty. As of today I am still without a vehicle and without an answer from Audi. I have tried reaching out to Audi of America without any response.

My 2018 Audi A3 began having fuel-related issues after receiving the recall service for campaign 20yf (suction jet pump seal) at an authorized Audi dealership. I first took the vehicle to an independent mechanic, because the check engine light came on, and there was a strong fuel smell. Most concerning, fuel leaked heavily from the front part of the engine, posing an extreme fire risk. Who performed a diagnostic and found the following faults: cold start fuel pressure performance fault fuel rail/system pressure too low fuel rail pump control valve stuck open injector 4 leaking fuel the mechanic replaced injector 4 and installed new seals. However, the fuel leak continued, so I decided to take the car back to the Audi dealership, since they had previously performed recall work on the vehicle. I was concerned that the fuel leak might be related to the recall. The dealership told me the issue was not related to the recall and required a new in-depth diagnostic, which I would have to pay for. I accepted, and they charged me $876 for a deeper inspection. After their diagnosis, they said the only issue was that the previous mechanic had installed the seals incorrectly. They replaced the seals again and charged me for the repair. When I picked up the vehicle, the check engine light was still on. I immediately reported it to the dealership, and they asked me to return the car, saying the light should not be on. Once I brought it back, they told me it was now a new issue unrelated to their work, and that I would need to pay for another diagnostic. I believe this ongoing problem is directly related to the fuel system recall or to the dealership’s repair, and I feel that I am being charged repeatedly for an issue that was never fully resolved. Despite my efforts to follow Audi’s process, I am being held financially responsible for what I believe is a safety-related failure that began after the recall was performed.
Mechatronics unit failed, stalled on freeway nearly caused an accident behind me.

Shortly after starting the car, and while exiting a parking lot, the car stalled and lost engine power. I was able to start the car back up for long enough to be able to pull back into the parking lot however after the car got parked the engine refused to start and stay running for the next hour. After a check using obd11, the codes were showing the cause of the original problem was low fuel pressure which ended up causing misfires. The only way I was able to get the car running and staying running was by purging the system repeatedly by turning on the ignition without starting the car. This has all happened once before while I was driving at relatively low speeds (around 25 mph) in a town, and I had to go through the same process. No warning lights show for the first multiple attempts at starting the car until it consistently fails to start. No inspections have taken place.
Dear NHTSA, I am filing a complaint about the handling of a recall repair on my 2015 Audi A3 (VIN: [xxx] ) for the suction jet pump. The service experience has been frustrating and raises concerns about the repair’s quality. 1. First visit - inadequate information: during my first visit to the service center, over an hour away, I was turned away because my fuel level was too high. I was never informed that my gas tank needed to be below a certain level for the repair, resulting in wasted time and travel. 2. Second visit - check engine light still on my second visit, the suction jet pump was supposedly repaired, but my check engine light remained on. I had informed the service advisor that the light was related to an evap system malfunction, which I was told could be caused by a faulty suction jet pump. After speaking with multiple mechanics, I learned that a malfunctioning suction jet pump could cause fuel to enter the evap system, damaging parts like the purge valve or charcoal canister. 3. Unreasonable charges: the service advisor insisted that the remaining evap issues were unrelated to the recall and wanted to charge $220 for another diagnostic and repairs, without even inspecting the car after the recall service. This seems unfair, as there’s no way to confirm without a proper check. 4. Missing seat belt buckle: after the recall service, I discovered that the rear driver’s side seat belt buckle was missing. This is a major safety concern and needs to be addressed. I request NHTSA’s help in investigating the repair quality and ensuring these issues are resolved fairly. Thank you for your attention. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Audi continues to tell me that this recall has been completed yet Audi’s website clearly states of the recall has not been completed your website. States of the recalls not completed and car fractures that recalls not been completed. Yet they refuse to complete the recall in my car.
24v110-the suction jet pump inside the fuel tank, designed to purge fuel from the evap system is defected and if a specific seal inside an affected suction jet pump fails, the fuel may flow directly into the evap system. If this happens, fuel could accumulate in the evap system and may leak through the charcoal canister filter element. Leaking fuel, in the presence of an ignition source, may result in a fire. My live and the live of my children is at risk every time I/we drive my car, due to the fact that my car could catch on fire. It is just a matter of time and I am not willing to risk getting caught in a fire, getting hurt or even dying inside my car. There is no repair available and I can not wait any longer. I am requesting replacement of my car ASAP.
The suction jet pump inside the fuel tank is designed to purge fuel from the evaporative emissions (evap) system. This mechanism could leak and cause a fire. I have informed Audi about the issue but they indicated there isn't a fix for the repair currently. They even stated there isn't a deadline or date they could give me for the repair.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? power train system failed also engine light is now on how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? me and my toddler were in the vehicle when it started to jerk in bad traffic. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes, the mechanic said this is a serious problem and I should be concerned. He stated I should not drive my vehicle. It was inspected by a certified mechanic. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no, everything happen at one time.
The car started having issues around February 2024. The car first started misfiring and dying at stops which was a safety issue. When parked I noticed that there was an excessive amount of fuel that started coming out of the charcoal canister, another problem that could have resulted in the car catching on fire. The car could not be filled up with more fuel as there was pressurized fuel coming out through the fuel filler neck when the cap was removed. The problem was determined to be related to the currently active recall. I waited for 5 months for there to be a fix for the recall without being able to use the vehicle. I finally got tired of waiting and had my mechanic repair it. The fuel tank and charcoal canister were replaced and the old parts are available for inspection by interested authorities upon request. The car is now fully functional again after replacement of those components.

This is in regards to your investigation into a recall for Audi 2015 A3 fuel system issues. My car was repaired as part of that initial recall, however, I am experiencing a bunch of fuel related issues as of now. My fuel tank will no longer fill with gas. The dealership said I need a need fuel tank. Then at the exact same time, my low side fuel pump failed. I mentioned to the dealership about the recall and the fuel problems, they told me they were not related. I paid to replace the lower said fuel pump. Now a few months later my high side fuel pump has failed. I then found the article about the investigation about fuel issues, they told me again it was not related. So now they are asking me to replace the high side fuel pump. I told them it was not a coincidence that both fuel pumps and my gas tank all fail at the same time along with the investigation. They again told me its not related. I opened up a case with Audi of America and they are investigating. Having issues with the fuel delivery system will cause the car to sudden stop and stall at high rates of speed, and has caused me to break down in the middle of the road with no warning.
The vehicle cabin started to smell like gas and the car would not accept fuel into the tank. Took to Audi/vw independent repair shop where they indicated fuel jet pump in gas tank was not working properly and that it had flooded various components with fuel (charcoal cannister, etc. ). Directed us not to drive as it was a fire danger and said that we should send to Audi to see if they would cover this under warranty as it was a major emissions and safety problem. Towed to Audi dealer in dallas. Dallas Audi dealer indicated this sounded like exactly what had happened for a recall issued for 2016 A3s. I learned this was subject to a warranty extension. Am working with the dealer who is trying to determine if that applies. Regardless, this is my daughter's car and a fuel leak with fumes in the cabin is a danger that should be fixed by recall.
Gracias.
Car start running loosing fuel.
The high voltage battery no longer charges to full. Only 7 out of 8 possible indicator bars are illuminated, the car now only shows 17-20 miles available. When I purchased the car 3 years ago, it showed 28-29 miles available. Car was at Audi dealership, got tested, Audi says it's within tolerance. I disagree, 30% to 40% of the capacity is lost so far. There are many more owners that are reporting the same issue on the facebook Audi A3 group.
Cust gasoline is spilling out of the rear part of the unit. The following complaint, was escalated to Audi USA related to recall of the suction pump, campaign number 16v647000. My vehicle was replaced or completed the recall on 2017, as requested, approximately 1 years or less of the purchase. Now my vehicle presents the same situation with only 32,000miles and Audi, may be a quotation over $5300 to repair a car that have the same behavior or symptoms that the suction pump recall, with its a safety recall. The car didn't present in the dashboard any flag of malfunction to advise of the danger situation, was in the store parking and one person point me that the car is spill gasoline. The car was moved in the trolley crane to the mechanic's shop. The mechanics, told me that Audi, is responsible for this situation because was a recall. I called to Audi puerto rico, and USA and told me that the car has 7 years, and it is out of warranty. I reiterated, that is a manufactured detects and Audi will be responsible because is a safety issue and the car didn’t present any advice of .
My vehicle stalls while driving twice in a row several times a week. Check engine code p0148 indicating a fuel system error. Took my vehicle to the Audi dealership but because my husband had cleared the code, nothing could be done. My vehicle stalling multiple times in a row, several times a week not only poses a safety risk to myself as the driver, but my passengers and other vehicles on the road. I am requesting an investigation into the faulty fuel systems of the 2019 Audi A3.

The low pressure fuel pump, located in the fuel tank, shorted out and melted surrounding plastic housing. The pump is available for for inspection and has been verified by an independent service center. The vehicle and failed component have not been inspected by the manufacturer, police or insurance reps. Audi of America was contacted, but declined to inspect or pass the issue to technical representatives. There were no warning lights or messages. Symptoms included hesitation at startup.
Fuel pump issue. Car will stall when driving.
Vehicle is not taking fuel, there is early stopping of the fuel nozzle and there is significant fuel spillback. Fuel would go in for 2 seconds and the fuel nozzle shuts off. I was trying to refill and then there was spillback of fuel that propelled all over my body and all over the floor of the gas station. I had taken my vehicle to a licensed repair shop who thought it might be a carbon canister which I got replaced. I tried to refuel after the maintenance and the problem persisted. My vehicle once again could not refuel, after sitting at a gas station for 10 minutes I was calling my husband, all of the sudden what little fuel was left in the tank shot back out and spilled all over the gas station floor and side of my car. I took my car to the licensed repair facility who then called my warranty company and they had adjuster come out as the repair facility tried to refuel my car, and it would not refuel and adjuster took videos of the fuel spilling back out. The warranty would not cover my vehicle because they say it is evap and they found a safety recall that matches the symptoms NHTSA: 16v647 for 2015 Audi A3 sedans. Mine is a 2015 Audi A3 sedan but for some reason this is not covered according to my VIN #.
I had a safety issue with the gas tank not accepting gas and spilling over and out. I replaced the gas tank and vapor canister, and costly labor. My car was taken palm beach performance ro#: 11887 1761 latham rd west palm beach, FL 33409 tel#: 561-932-8840.
Was trying to fill up my car at the gas station. The car would not accept any fuel. Frustrated, I went to try another gas station. Same thing happened. Went home to check and see what the problem was and gas started spewing out of the gas tank from where you fill it up with gas. Car (to my knowledge) has never been overfilled, by me. This is apparently a problem with the 2017 vw golf's as well (which run on the same platform as my Audi A3). It is a problem that most people are saying could be the charcoal canister prematurely dying, or a suction pump dying, which is supposed to last the lifetime of the vehicle.
The component failing seems to be the fuel system. It is unsafe because the vehicle shoots out fuel all over the place (which is a fire hazard) when I attempt to add fuel to the car. Even though this problem (for our vehicle) is listed on an Audi technical service bulletin, they said that they have nothing to do with the problem. Audi won't inspect the problem just said I have to pay for any repairs. There were no warning lamps, etc. One day the car just starting spitting gas out and has become progressively worse as time has passed. Can only add an extreme minimum amount (about $5. 00 worth or less) of fuel to the fuel tank before it shoots out all over the place. The Audi technical service bulletin is uploaded below. We purchased the 2016 car about two years ago but haven't driven it much until recently.
Upon parking in my garage, the vehicle leaked fuel from the rear-wheel on passenger side. There were no warning lights to indicate the fuel line or other component was compromised or malfunction. The vehicle was towed to the Audi service center for inspection. The inspection revealed fuel was in the charcoal canister, filter and leak diagnostic pump; replacements were needed. Please see video: https://api. Mykaarma. Com/video-walkaround/details?inspection_uuid=62b08d040e1dff5107d5e511&filetype=image_and_video the fuel leak was similar to the 2016 Audi recall 16v647000; it was due to a problem with the suction pump inside the fuel tank, fuel may flow into the evaporative emissions (evap) system. As fuel accumulated in the evap system, it leaked out through the charcoal canister filter element.
On Tuesday, June 7, 2022 my vehicle began having a hard time accelerating, then my vehicle started leaking out gas from the back of the vehicle located in front of the rear passenger tire. I then took the vehicle to Audi west houston to have a diagnosis. After a day and a half, Audi misdiagnosed my vehicle with ethanal composition too high and recommended that the gas tank be drain. I then took my car to an independent mechanic who replaced the fuel pump. On the way to the independent mechanic for a second opinion, the check engine light surface. I then stopped at the gas station to put gas in the vehicle, but the vehicle would not take fuel even though after the fuel pump repair, the car was still misfiring and gas was still leaking from the rear of the vehicle and gas fumes would be smelled from inside the car. The charcoal canister of the vehicle was changed with oem parts. The vehicle's sending units were pulled and the fuel level was tested. The vehicle's leak defection pump was then inspected for the fuel intrusion and were not obstructed. The vehicle again began leaking fuel. The purge and vent valves of the vehicle were working properly and the vent filter was wet with fuel. The fuel was being pushed into the charcoal canister from an internal valving issue inside the fuel tank. The independent mechanic then called an authorized Audi dealership who acknowledged similar problems in Audi vehicles. The authorized Audi dealership deemed the car unsafe to drive and suggested that the independent mechanic park the vehicle outside of the mechanic shop because a simply spark could cause the vehicle to easily caught on fire. Audi also acknowledged that there are no available parts for the car as all of them are on indefinitely on backorder. The car is not only an emission issue but also a safety issue with not feasible solution. Furthermore, I live in texas during an unpredictable drought, even the weather could cause the vehicle to spontaneously combust in flames.
When pumping gas, it only allows for less than 5 consecutive seconds until the nozzle clicks off. It is soon followed by gas spilling out of the filler neck. Also accompanied by a rough running vehicle plus misfires. The vapor canister, along with the leak detection pump have already been replaced. Therefore the only issue that warrants these outcomes is suction pump failure. This is in recall 20y5. Thought it does not state my car needs it. Ive been stopped by multiple drivers on the roadway for gas spilling from the fuel door. The climate in which this car operates exceeds 100? especially in the summer time. One small spark could endager or cost me, my peers, and any surrounding people their lives.
2017 Audi A3 etron sportsback- engine light turned on at 50k, when scanned for errors no codes. Then around 55k miles started to stall when slowing down or at a full stop. The car must be turned off then immediately go into drive. Felt very dangerous when driving in high traffic areas and areas with many stop lights/signs. Car error say transmission malfunction first then says something about limited power. We had changed atf and filter, still had issues. Then it started to not allow to go into reverse. Issues were intermittently happening then became more constant. Finally towed to Audi dealer they are not 100% but they say a new transmission is needed. After seeing complaints of similar situation I think this should be a recall on the transmission for these cars.
Vehicle tank was almost empty. Was unable to fill the tank because the gas station pump stopped constantly without being full. Took 15 minutes to fill the tank. Fuel came out of my tank and a very unpleasant fuel odor came into the car. When arrived home gasoline came out of the tank again, a significant amount of fuel came out. Fortunately the car didn't catch fire. Took it to a mechanic and the gasoline pump valve was replaced. This valve is under the rear seats. No recall available for my car for this issue. I was told that vw/Audi knows well about this issue but they didn't include all VIN numbers on this recall. I ended paying $140 for this repair.
I experienced issues putting fuel in my vehicle. The pump would shut off as if the tank were full after putting only a few dollars in the tank. At one point gas backed up and spalshed onto my hand and cloths, down the side of my vehicle onto the ground. Prior to this I noticed my vehicle hesitating when accelerating at times. I took it to the Audi dealership explaining something was preventing fuel from going into the gas tank. The Audi dealership’s initial diagnosis recommendation was to replace charcoal cannister as it had gas in it. Once replaced, the technician still had issues fueling the vehicle. After a second diagnostic test they determined the evap cannister as well as the actual fuel tank needed to be replaced. I did take my vehicle to another establishment for a second opinion as I felt the Audi dealership did not appear to know what the exact problem was. Prior to and during the issue with my vehicle, there were no warning lamps on messages indicating any problems. There was only the slight hesitation when accelerating periodically. This occurred approximately 1 week prior to the fueling issues.
There are six recall warnings associated with this car and tons of information that I am not including as I am sure you have all of the documentation. I am adding my VIN # above to the complaints. I would like to know what vw corp is doing about this. Thank you very much for keeping us safe on the road best, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. Check engine light came on in October 2020 car was slow to take off for several weeks and seemed to take time to shift gears. Took to Audi mechanic and had to replace water pump -w/thermostat housing & intake manifold. Now I'm April 2021 car is back in shop because it wouldn't shift out of 1st gear suddenly when I was driving with my daughter in the car, I pulled over in a parking lot to turn car off and then got an error message stating transmission malfunction cannot reverse and had to have the car towed to mechanic again. I'm told it needs mechatronic unit replaced, replace timing cover due to oil leak, evap leak and wiper fluid is leaking.

Engine stalls while accelerating from a stop. This condition has been dangerous. Car has been to the Audi dealer 3 times to remedy the problem. That cannot diagnose the issue. It is going in for a 4th time April 12th 2021. This issue is extremely dangerous. The car will lose power and stall as you are pulling out into traffic. Happens daily.
On initial start, occasionally the car will become inactive while driving (sometimes stalls/sputters & sometimes just doesn't advance even while pressing on the gas pedal). Often the car spontaneously responds within seconds if it has not stalled, but recently now it stalls and sputters, then needs to be restarted. I was pulling out of a parking lot into traffic with safe distance, when the car became "dormant" and stalled. Luckily, there was a center lane that I could coast into to avoid causing a serious accident. Upon restarting the vehicle, the screen displayed "start/stop system: malfunction". I shut off the system and drove home. The next morning, the car did the same exact thing- had just started up the car and began driving- and it lost all power to the gas pedal/we almost came to a complete stop- but the car was still running, then it quickly reset itself. This time my service engine soon light came on. I called the dealer and took it in for service. I was told that it was bad gas and that I needed to take it to certain gas stations -marathon or shell only and only put premium fuel in it (although the manual states that I can use 87 or 89). The car is unsafe and is dangerous to drive. I am putting myself and my occupants in danger and also the lives of others around me. I understand that there is a class action law suit that was filed in 2020- this cannot wait- there must be a recall- someone will get seriously hurt or even die because of this.
