Audi A4 owners have reported 9 problems related to brake foundation components (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Audi A4 based on all problems reported for the A4.
The brakes are not functional, can hardly stop the car, within the first 150 feet when initially applied in wet conditions. This condition reappears each time after the vehicle goes for 1 to 2 miles without reapplying brakes to dry it.

Brake failure in wet conditions. I was driving on 95n in providence. As I was changing lanes, I lost steering abilities. When I braked I did not get a response and crashed into the jersey barrier then bounced off it and went into a 180 degree spin across 4 lanes. I was stopped by the guard rail.
Vehicle had brake work completed.

In heavy rain conditions, brakes become unresponsive for appx 1-2 seconds, regardless of pedal pressure. I have been driving for 18 years and can attest that this is not a case of normal 'reduced effectiveness' associated with wet conditions. In certain conditions, the car will travel for 20-50 feet without any noticeable brake effectiveness. Yes, I do pump my brakes frequently under these conditions to clear excess water from the pads/rotors.

Vehicle experienced steering wheel and brake lock up. Mjs.
Brakes do not work in wet conditions!.
After traveling for several minutes on freeways in rain storms the first application of the brakes does not slow the car. There is a 1-2 second delay before there is any barking force regardless of pedal pressure. This isn't merely the typical lack of initial bite on wet brakes as with wet brakes the brake force will increase with increased pedal pressure. When this happens, instincts are to press the brake harder and when the water is finally shed the car will pull sharply in reaction to which ever of the brakes 'dries' first. Audi has designed and sells a plastic wing that fits around the inside of the wheel well at the underbody/wheel well interface to combat this but it only makes a marginal improvement. In addition, the 2002 Audi A4 comes equiped with this same shielding in an apparent awknowledgement of the issue.
When parallel parking noticed difficulty in the steering, later noice broken wires at front of engine. Brakes have always required extra effort and performed poorly.
