Exterior Rearview Mirror Problems of Audi A4

This is not about a particular incident but rather something that has been getting progressively worse. The exterior mirrors have been losing their reflectivity. I was told by someone that it's the silver on the backside of the mirror that is flaking off and that it happens when the temperature changes fairly quickly. I asked my local Audi dealership about this and they said it was very uncommon and would be about $75 to replace the mirror. As I drive around and as I walk past other Audis and volkswagens I notice that the same thing is happening on their mirrors as happened to both of mine. I asked a mechanic at another shop in rutland about it and he said he sees it all the time. If it's the nature of the reflective material and it's reasonable to have this happen then fine. It seems as though, however, that it's a problem plaguing many of these types of cars and a problem that Audi, or at least my local dealership, will not admit is a common failure with these mirrors.

I own an Audi A4, and have observed that the driver side mirror tarnishes severaly. I have personally experienced this safety hazard and have observed many other Audi vehicles with similar defective mirrors. Respectfully request that this get looked into and a recall notice be issued for replacement mirrors.

2003 Audi A4 3. 0 quattro. The car has problem with outside mirrors. Both mirrors aren't adjust to its position that is set in memory. Everytime the car was used by my spouse, I have to manually readjust both mirros instead of automatically adjust by what was programmed in memory. More over, the driver outside mirror just change it position after 1 or 2 days of driving. It is very scary and unsafe I feel everytime when I drive the car with a worry that the mirror isn't in its position that I set.

The driver's side mirror has auto dimming feature that has failed to work consistently since the vehicle was purchased new. Thi same mirror also adjusts itself without the operator touching the adjusment switch. The dealers could never duplicate these problems and the vehicle is now out of warranty.

The side view mirrors intermittently, since the vehicle was new, adjust themselves outward making operation a danger. Never able to duplicate at dealer, now out of warranty and still a problem. Was told they would continue to pay to evaluate, and now they say they will only pay if they find something.
