1 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2006 Audi A4

Failure Date: 09/11/2020

Audi issued a technical service bulletin that I found on your website. This bulletin was regarding the exact parts the dealer (Audi) identified as being affected on my car (high pressure fuel pump, cam follower, and corresponding intake camshaft cam lobe). This bulletin (not a recall, but distributed internally to dealerships) clearly states that this is a widespread issue that affected all VIN ranges of specified Audi models from 2005-2007 that included mine. Audi extended drivetrain coverage on these vehicles to 10yr/120k mi. This issue causes a worsening loss of power upon accelerating (making driving at all speeds dangerous) and eventual engine failure if left alone. I am the 3rd owner of this car, so I did not receive the intended letter from Audi stating the specifics of this coverage extension. My vehicle is currently at ~110k miles at the time of this service (~4-5 days ago). Upon bringing this bulletin to the attention of Audi service manager, he did not ask me for the bulletin number or revision, he just denied covering it verbally saying the coverage was "10yr/120k mi, whichever came first" but would not send me a copy of the extension letter proving this. The cost of repairs related to this issue is ~$5,600. I opened a case with Audi of America. I provided the requested info, and was still not sent/emailed a copy of this letter, or proof that it was sent to the owner of the vehicle. I was told cases take up to a week to review (they would need me to provide service records for the vehicle, etc). I was called less than 24hrs later that the case was denied, before I provided any info or pled my case that a company with the slogan "truth in engineering" should stand behind an acknowledged engineering flaw. Repairs are ~1. 5x the value of the car. I don't have the money to fix this and it creates an unsafe driving condition. Please help.

4 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2014 Audi A4

Failure Date: 10/26/2019

On Saturday 10/26/2019 as I left my office to head home that day from work my epc light and engine mil light in my dashboard came on and the car would not start. I started to smell gas fumes in the car and smoke coming from the back seat like a fire had started. I shut off the car, got out and opened all the doors and as I approached the right side of the vehicle I spotted large amounts of fuel leaking from underneath where the fuel pump is located. I called my authorized mechanic as he has dealt with my vehicle before and he came and diagnosed the vehicle, hooked it up to his computer and gave him a few error codes. 1 was for the fuel pump, another for the after run coolant pump. He informed me that there was a malfunction within the electric fuel pump itself that's causing the issue and that's why fuel started leaking all over the floor underneath the vehicle where the fuel pump is located. He also alerted me to a service bulletin that showed up on his computer that showed a recall for the same fuel pump issues related to my vehicle as well as several others. We immediately called a tow truck to get it back to his shop. Upon further inspection after he removed the rear seat to get to the fuel pump it revealed exactly what had occurred. The fuel pump and the electronic connectors connected to the pump along with the seal had burnt out causing fuel to spill everywhere and flood the entire unit as well as my back seat where a small spark from the ignition when started almost caused a small fire under the seat which could of erupted bigger. Luckily it did not explode or got any worst and out of control. This is a serious safety risk and needs to rectified immediately before myself or anyone else gets hurt. My car has been well maintained since I purchased it in 2015 and just hit a little over 50k miles, never missed an oil change, yearly inspections and tune up.

5 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2014 Audi A4

Failure Date: 09/18/2019

Because of the odor of gasoline for several weeks, I had asked the dealer to investigate and what the reason was, if any. He called to tell me the fuel pump was leaking and that I should replace it for safety reasons such as gasoline coming in contact with the exhaust manifold. The pump was replaced by them. A copy of the receipt has been uploaded. Thank you.

6 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2014 Audi A4

Failure Date: 09/13/2019

Vehicle shut down completely while in motion on a busy street. Steering where became very hard to maneuver could have caused an accident due to shutdown. Tried to restart ignition in order to drive it off the road but kept shutting down completely. All electrical and components were not working. Even in neutral the steering where was very hard to turn. It turned out to be the fuel pump which cost $1400 to replace.

7 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2016 Audi A4

Failure Date: 07/27/2019

Initially my fuel pump began leaking fuel. Two weeks after replacement, the new Audi factory fuel pump began leaking again and had to be replaced. After the fuel pump was replaced the second time, a large amount of fuel began leaking around the fuel injectors. This was an extreme safety hazard because of the large amount of fuel leaking and falling onto the alternator and other parts.

12 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 Audi A4

Failure Date: 10/27/2015

Vehicle was in motion on a suburban road, driving forward, when it developed forward/bucking motion before stalling/stopping in traffic. Upon dealer inspection, the vehicle's high pressure fuel pump was found to have failed, which directly caused a failure of the engine cam shaft, resulting in a costly repair to correct.

13 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 Audi A4

Failure Date: 07/23/2015

Problem with my vehicle is the high pressure fuel pump and camshaft. Apparently there has been a warranty for 2007 and older models and I was also told by a dealer that 2009 and new models were covered. The warranty was an extended to 10 years/120,000 miles for this issue. I called corporate also to see if there may have been a mistake at the dealer that my vehicle was not covered and they said it was not mistake. Whats astounding is that the same issue my vehicle has is what is covered in previous and later years for the exact same vehicle as mine. My mechanic advised me that the system is failing and it is only a matter of time I start experiencing loss of power and other engine issues. I don't know if I am writing this to the correct department however any assistance in making this issue known and even forcing Audi's hand to take responsibility of this issue would be greatly appreciated. The vehicle is a wonderful vehicle but to be told about and also reading about other owner's experiencing this issue and saying that their vehicle just stalled and lost complete power or that the camshaft broke into pieces causing engine failure in addition to fuel failure is scary. Again it looks like this is a big problem that has been ignored for years. Maybe forcing a recall will correct their manufacturing problem with the affected vehicles.

15 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Audi A4

Failure Date: 12/08/2014

The car engine stopped working while driving on the highway 280, lane next to the shoulder. I felt the engine stopped and was able to turn the wheel to get it over to the shoulder. I called aaa to tow it to the Audi dealership in san jose, stevens creek. Audi dealership preformed a diagnostic on my Audi, diagnostic reads that the fuel pump, seal and fuel filter needs to be replaced .

16 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Audi A4

Failure Date: 12/08/2014

The car engine stopped working while driving on the highway 280, lane next to the shoulder. I felt the engine stopped and was able to turn the wheel to get it over to the shoulder. I called aaa to tow it to the Audi dealership in san jose, stevens creek. Audi dealership preformed a diagnostic on my Audi, diagnostic reads that the fuel pump, seal and fuel filter needs to be replaced . The dealership said that this is not covered under warranty as the history paperwork has repairs done for the same issues. I called the Audi manufacturer and a rep named shy is working on my request to help resolve this issue as she seen hat there is a warranty for this issue. But, I called 2 prior times to the Audi manufacturer and got the run around.

17 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2004 Audi A4

Failure Date: 11/26/2014

Was driving on freeway for a few hours during which car was running fine, and car suddenly lost power just after I got off freeway and approached a mountain road incline. There was no warning light, or prior symptoms to engine failure, it just stopped. With help, I was able to get car out of the middle of the road and to safety. Tried to troubleshoot, used engine error code reader, and no fault codes found. Performed basics checked for potential fuel vapor lock due to altitude; checked oil, coolant and fuel levels- and all levels were ok. Battery was functioning - as radio, lights worked. Car has been consistently serviced and maintenance was current. Car was towed to nearest dealer, diagnosis by dealer fuel pump failure due to clogged fuel filter. My issue is that Audi does not indicate service maintenance for fuel filter. There is not any maintenance recommendations or guidance in either the owner's manual or published list of recommended services to replace or check filer. There also were not any warning lights, fault codes or indications to watch for. I feel that it is negligent of the manufacturer to not indicate any service interval to change fuel filter in order to prevent fuel pump failure, and to ensure the safe operating conditions of the vehicle. The car lost power on a winding mountain road and put me at danger without warning. I am curious if this fuel pump incident could be associated with known fuel pump issues, NHTSA #pe08027. Key side notes, while I am the second registered owner, this car was purchased by my father who was the original owner, but for insurance and registration purposes the vehicle was transferred over to me, but I have all original records of the vehicle and can verify all maintenance services have been performed.

18 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2002 Audi A4

Failure Date: 09/26/2014

Incident happened on the day shown above I was running errands car was working well through out the day it was when I went to pick my husband up from work I stopped at an intersection when traffic light turned green I stepped on the gas pedal and that's when it started chugging and choking and did not want to go more than 30mph and suddenly it just shut down we were able to pull over to the side of the road when we tried turning on the car again it felt heavy and sluggish failed to start. Left car over night locked and alarm on we always pump 91 chevron gasoline and keep up with 5k oil changes hired a indy mechanic and instantly notice the fuel pump was not activating please help.

19 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 Audi A4

Failure Date: 08/20/2014

2008 Audi A4 avant with the 2. 0 liter turbo motor/ engine code is bwt. Camshaft lobe and high pressure fuel premature worn out. Audi knew about this issue in 2010 about the premature wear on the camshaft lobe and high pressure fuel pump.

20 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 Audi A4

Failure Date: 04/21/2014

Initially, check engine light came on. Dealer suggested oil change well before due as solution. Problem is failing high pressure fuel pump. Failing fuel pump causes camshaft and valve lifters to wear prematurely. As high pressure fuel pump fails car loses power and/or loses ability to accelerate. Car is especially dangerous in situations such as crossing traffic, accelerating to get up to speed, may lose ability to accelerate when attempting to pass other vehicles - very unsafe on 2 lane roads. Problem of little to no acceleration is intermittent and without warning and can be frequent. Same parts and problems as documented on prior models years, including 2007 Audi A4's (previous model year) that were covered either due to recall or manufacter extending the warranty due to product defect. 2008 models were still under initial manufacturer warranty for age of vehicle when prior years became covered / recalled. Cost at Audi dealer to fix were over $1600. Dealer paperwork paperwork states problem is "not uncommon on this motor. ".

21 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2006 Audi A4

Failure Date: 04/10/2014

Took the Audi A4 quattro to the Audi connection of cincinnati dealership for a check engine light (cel) on p codes p2293 & p0089 which indicates a possible cam follower, cam shaft, and/or high pressure fuel pump (hpfp) issues back on Thursday morning April 10th, 2014. Later, I spoke with lee at the service desk who stated that the cam shaft was worn and would be a covered item on this internal Audi campaign; however, he would not be able to get to it until the next business day since it would take a full day to repair pushing it into Friday. I received a call Friday April 11th at approximately 11:30 a. M. And it was lee stating that the cam shaft would not be replaced due to an oil pressure issue that damaged both cam shafts and engine. He later stated that the engine would have to be replaced that could cost upwards of $8,000. 00. I later suspected oil sludge issues that were also on a recall. Yes, the Audi connection did later relent, after stating earlier that they would not perform the work, offering to perform the repairs at a later timeline; a timeline that I could not afford to be without a vehicle and paying on a rental. This particular vehicle; Audi A4 t2. 0 quattro 2006 year, make, and model has a history of oil sludge issues and Audiusa has had class action lawsuits on such events- all anyone has to do is to do their research and locate issues concerning the very issues I too have experienced. Below is one similar to mine. . . "a settlement notice for the vw and Audi oil sludge class action lawsuit will be mailed and published in USA today on or before December 29, 2010. The final approval hearing is scheduled for March 11, 2011. ".

22 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2012 Audi A4

Failure Date: 04/05/2014

Only five minutes after starting car in morning, engine rapidly lost power and quit completely while in 60 mph traffic on heavily traveled interstate 526 in charleston, SC. Coasted car out of traffic lanes to side, a very dangerous location on elevated roadway. Had car towed to Audi dealer, who said they tested and found fuel pump had failed. They replaced fuel pump and engine seems to run normally now. In four decades of driving I've never had a fuel pump fail. This one put my wife and me in jeopardy due to the sudden and complete loss of engine power in middle of fast, heavy traffic. We were lucky to get out without being hit by oncoming trucks & traffic.

26 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2004 Audi A4

Failure Date: 11/23/2012

I'm 26, mother of a 9 yr & 14 mo old. Currently, I'm unemployed and I can't afford to pay $2,500 to repair the fuel pump that Audi initially installed in my car. I was so excited to buy this Audi used 4 yrs ago with 80,000 miles. This has been the most costly and the most unsafe vehicle I have owned. . . Stalling out was not fun and very scary. Audi dealerships have been trained well to deny owning up to the car's defects. Is Audi waiting for an accident to happen and people/children die? I guess the cost of paying for the court cost when someone dies is not a big worry for the company - probably cost more to have the cars recalled & safely repaired than to pay for court & funeral cost. I'm sure Audi has been aware of this problem since 2003 and refuse to own up to their 2003 mistake flowing over to the 2004 models. It makes no sense that Audi won't "step up to the plate" and have a recall. Maybe the Audi company really can't repair the car and the problem will always exist? I would hope they have Smart engineers that could fix the problem. Audi really is coming across as having poor customer concerns for our safety. What a shame, I can barely make ends meet and now, I can't even afford to take my car out of the shop. . . But, maybe it's a blessing - at least, my children and I are safe by not driving that car. Come on Audi - recall now before some dies!!! and, what is the vehicle safety folks doing for us??? I just an angry mother hoping someone will listen & with the belief that the NHTSA can help. . . I wish I had never bought this car, I'm still making monthly payments for the car that I'm scared to drive now. I'm wondering by venting on this site, if Audi even gets this information? this is a "no kidding" matter that should be taken seriously and fixed as soon as possible by the responsible company to show that they really care for their customers!.

27 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2004 Audi A4

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

Fuel pump noisy and not working. Cant bear the noise as its too loud inside and outside. Replaced fuel filter still not use. Browsed through internet and saw its happening to all 2004 A4 models and no recalls from the manufacturer as its common in all A4 2004 models. Request to file an complaint on this issue and request manufacturer to recall fuel pump in all A4 2004 models.

28 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2003 Audi A4

Failure Date: 01/31/2012

There was a loud noise coming from the rear area of my vehicle. When I got in my vehicle I noticed that there was a high pitched noise coming from the back seat area. When I took it to my mechanic he said that the fuel pump was going and it would need to be replaced. The car ran ok and the noise went away when the weather was warmer but has recently returned with the cooler weather. I looked online and saw a technical bulletin/recall for my make and model. When I dug deeper into the associated documents I found my VIN number matched the numbers in the documents. Audi said they had no records of this (although they were on Audi letterhead) and said I could take it to the dealer but would have to pay for the diagnostic. This does not match what is written in the recall notice.

29 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2004 Audi A4

Failure Date: 08/15/2011

2004 Audi A4 with intermittent fuel pump failure. On several occasions the car would stop running while driving and then restart after some time. The latest event occurred at the airport and almost caused an accident. I had the car towed to a repair shop and it was determined that the fuel pump was not operating resulting in $800 in repairs. This is a dangerous situation and appears to be a larger problem with this vehicle. A recall of the 2002-2003 did not capture these other vehicles which have the same problem. Since this can result in injury and/or death, its critical that the government investigate for recall. Audi will not take responsibility unless held accountable.

30 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2004 Audi A4

Failure Date: 03/07/2011

2004 Audi A4 fuel pump failure causes car to stall. My car stalled on the freeway and almost caused a significant accident!.

31 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2004 Audi A4

Failure Date: 04/02/2010

I have a 2004 Audi A4 1. 8 turbo . . 5:45pm on a heavy traffic Friday before easter week. . My call stalled while I driving home with both kids. I was very lucky and fortunate that a truck driver got out of his truck and pushed my car to the curb. I had it towed to the nearest Audi dealership since it was close to 8pm by the time the tow truck arrived . Service rep calls me the following day (Saturday morning) and said it was the fuel pump injector that needed to be replaced. How can we complain to Audi manufacturer since I noticed tons of fuel pump issues for the 2004 A4 Audi.

32 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Audi A4

Failure Date: 03/06/2010

I have an Audi A4 2007. Friday, March 5 I was driving to work and the car starting revving by itself, but slowing down at the same time. I was forced to put it in neutral and coast to the side of the road. Took it to the dealer, they said it was the fuel pump, replaced it. Saturday, I was the last car on an exit ramp preparing for light to change, but when I pushed the gas, the engine revved to 5, but would not move. Car was in drive position. While this was happening, a Ford f-150 was heading towards the rear of my car, but swerved in time I assume after seeing my hazards on, which I did immediately. The truck barely missed clipping me. Finally, I turned the car off and back on, and it got up to about 20 miles per hour, enough for me to get off the exit ramp. This car burns oil through every 1200-1500 miles. Audi is aware of this problem, in addition to the ignition coil problems with this vehicle. I had 4 coils replaced, but only after I got the letter of the recall from Audi. I was told the whole time the jerking of the misfired coils was 'normal'. I am not the only one who has had the same issues. This year of car is unsafe, and should be recalled to fix the oil consumption issues before the damage occurs to the engines.

33 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2004 Audi A4

Failure Date: 08/21/2009

2004 Audi A4 1. 8t fuel pump failed while pulling into a parking lot. Had to push it into the grass. No warning about any problem. I use only 91 - 93 grade gas and it has about 71,000 miles on it.

34 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2006 Audi A4

Failure Date: 07/28/2009

Car hesitated under acceleration at highway speeds resulting in total loss of power. Car continued to have acceleration and idling problems. Issues due to cam follower wearing prematurely causing major damage to high pressure fuel pump, intake and exhaust cams, damage to engine requiring total engine replacement.

35 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2004 Audi A4

Failure Date: 06/14/2007

My 2004 Audi A4 stalled in the middle of an intersection while I was in the process of making a left turn into another street. I was stranded in the middle of this busy street for almost an hour until a tow truck could arrive from the Audi dealer. An officer from the charlotte, n. C. Police department arrived in about 20 minutes and directed vehicles to prevent an accident until the tow truck arrived. I was fortunate that the police and other motorists helped direct traffic around my vehicle to prevent an accident, as it was raining and foggy at the time of this issue. The vehicle was determined to have a fuel pump failure by Audi of charlotte, and they repaired the vehicle at a charge of $869. 18. I have since learned that there was a recall on 2003 Audi A4 models for fuel pump failures.
