Consumer experience significant problems with low profile tires that are oem on Audi A6 3. Ol quattro. The failure occurred within the sidewall of the tires.
2003 Audi A6 had four tires replaced due to cracking of the sidewall. ***** the consumer believes that when touching the curb while parking, the sidewall being so thin and low profile, simply crack, fail and puncture. The sidewalls cannot be fixed. This problem has occurred four times in the last two years. (pirelli p6 four season low profiles tires).
: the contact stated the tires on the front of the vehicle have been replaced nine times, within one and a half years. The side walls on the tires are blowing out. The tire repair shop was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer of the vehicle has been alerted.
Tire failure; pirelli p6000 tires 255/40/17/zr; four failures in 3 years; the inside wall splits causing a flat; in the latest, the inside wall is so severely cracked, that the rubber is pulling away from the tire; tires are 10 months old, less than 15,000 miles; manufacturer refuses to acknowledge problem.
I now drive an Audi A6 with pirelli p/6 tires. I have had 5 blow-outs in the past 19 months. The sidewalls are either paper thin or non-existent. I have been driving for over 40 years and haven't had 5 flat tires in that time. These tires are dangerous and should not be allowed to be put on cars that drive on regular streets. I have notified the dealer" new country Audi of greenwich, CT. The sales manager said "didn't the salesperson tell you you had to be careful with these tires?" what kind of an answer is that?.
Our new Audi A6 had the p6 p235/r17 installed as original equipment. Within the first 4,000 miles, all under normal driving conditions, a large bulge developed on the sidewall of one of the rear tires. This created a very dangerous driving condition. When we had reported this issue to our dealer, they very rudely disclaimed responsibility and had given us the number for the tire manufacturer. When we had reported this to pirelli consumer affairs division, they quickly ascertained (without inspection) that this was caused by a road hazard, and would not be covered under warranty. At this stage we are looking toward our legal options, since both Audi and pirelli are not interested in coming up with a solution short of us buying brand new tires.

While washing the truck consumer noticed that the right front tire sidewall on the outside edged cracked, and the nylon belt was visible. A month later, the inside front left tire was showing the same failure. Dealership acknowledged the failure, but was not providing a cause or remedy. They were only willing to provide a partial payment on a set of new tires.

Two separate tire failures from same brand/type of original equipment tires, first: January 22, 2003, second: April 28, 2003 both were sidewall blowouts. The first, on the right front wheel in January 2001, did not pose a safety hazard as it occurred while the car was parked in a garage. However, the 2nd, only three months after the first, occurred on a different wheel (right rear) at 60 mph in the middle lane of a congested portion of I-95 near milford, CT. The latter clearly posed a very serious safety hazard to us, and to all other vehicles on this heavily-trafficked interstate. I did not report the first blowout, believing that perhaps I had hit something on the road. But the second blowout of same brand/vintage tire, this time on rear right side, indicates a likely safety defect in this expensive michelin tire.
While driving 35 to 40 mph, right front tire went flat. Upon inspection it was observed that sidewall had cracked and separated from tread along the entire inside circumference. This is the second time that this has occurred on this car. The first separation occurred at approximately 26,000 miles (complaint odi 769362) while this one occurred at 36,000 miles.

Tire disintegrated. Tread separated completely from sidewalls, leaving only a small portion of sidewall on rim.
Consumer received letter regarding the bridgestone potenza tires (p225/45r17), one tire had experienced bubbling in the sidewall and had been replaced prior to the letter, consumer is requesting reimbursement for the replacement tires.
I have had this car for only slightly more than 6 months, and have had no collisions or other unusual impacts to tires. After only 800 miles of service, my right front tire developed a bulging knot in the sidewall. Dealer inspected the tire and could find no indication of "impact" injury so tire was replaced under warranty, as vehicle was only 2 weeks old. Now I have discovered 3 more of the tires (lf, rf & rr) have developed similar bulging knots in the sidewall, one of which is the tire that was replaced by the dealer at 800 miles. I drive only on paved city streets, and have never experienced tire failures of this type on any other vehicle that I have owned, so I do not believe that this condition is due to driving conditions. ( dot number: dmce22d tire size: 255/40zr17 ).
