1 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2012 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 12/10/2020

Car burning excessive oil. The oil light comes on all the time. Oil consumption is not normail. I have to add oil every 1000 miles. From what I hear from other Audi owners to repair the engine it will cost around $6,000. 00. The pistons and rings are defective and since there are soooo many complaints, Audi should recall this issue and fix it for all affected vehicles.

3 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2013 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 08/27/2020

My concern is that this car barely had 115,000 miles on it and I'm now dealing with a major oil consumption where I"m at the dealership almost once a month. My concern, is that I'm on the open highway and the car tells me to immediately park the car because the oil is too low, right after getting it topped off weeks before. This was a hazard for me be alone on the road. I notice other complaints about this issue. Is there anything Audi is considering doing about it? these cars aren't cheap and should not be an issue, causing owners to either pay $9,000+ or get a new car. Even now, I'm still having to frequent the dealership for top offs due to the oil consumption concern.

6 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2015 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 03/12/2020

I have been dealing with an oil consumption issue on my 2015 Audi Q5 for a good part of this year. I service my vehicle regularly and oil consumption had never been an issue until the engine light came on in March. I live in FL during the winter months so I took the vehicle to Audi of melbourne on March 12, 2020, odometer reading 75,755. At that time, they completed part 1 of an oil consumption test and informed me to return the vehicle if the engine light came on or I drove 1,000 miles. Because of the coronavirus, I returned to ky and the second part of the test was completed by Audi of lexington on March 31, 2020, odometer reading 76,920. I was informed that the vehicle passed the oil consumption test (no report provided) based on the parameters established by Audi USA. I continued to monitor the oil level, adding when nearing the minimum level. Realizing that oil consumption was worsening, I contacted Audi of lexington and scheduled a second oil consumption test. Part 1 of that test occurred on June 23, 2020, odometer reading 77,793. I was told to drive the vehicle until the engine light came on or I had driven 700 miles. Audi of lexington completed part 2 of the test on July 21, 2020, odometer reading 78,534, and again the vehicle passed within Audi USA parameters. I believe the oil consumption was . 49 quarts. I purchased the certified pre-owned vehicle from Audi of lexington on April 18, 2015. The cpo warranty is set to expire on August 23, 2020 and I fear the engine will fail sometime before or after that date. I know there is a serious oil burn issue that I had never experienced on any other vehicle owned during my lifetime and while acceptable to Audi USA, it is not acceptable to me. While the owner's manual mentions minor oil consumption, quart per 600 miles, I was not disclosed that issue prior to purchasing the vehicle.

Oil consumption - check engine add oil lights come on every 200 to 300 miles add a quart of oil then again after 200+ miles add another quart. Audi will not acknowledge there is a problem and recall. I have 108k miles 90% highway. 5 year 80k warranty it started after 80k miles. I have spent $3k the past six months without replacing the engine.

8 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2012 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 01/06/2020

Since January 2019, the vehicle oil light has been turning more and more frequently. I was told by Audi dealership that it is normal to add a quart every 1000 miles or so. I am adding a quart per 100 miles. When communicating with Audi dealership my claims were dismissed and I was told work costs to replace piston rings would be over $6000 dollars. When researching class action lawsuit, my engine code is the one that is affected by the oil consumption problem, but when communicating that to Audi of America hotline, I was told that my vehicle has not been rewarded any extended warranty.

Class action law suit for Audi USA for excessive oil consumption in models up to 2011, has not fixed the issue becasue alot of people claim the same issue with Audi including my 2012 Audi Q5. More than 1 qt of oil every 200 miles is alot and this seems to be a issue with Audi, I have had mu engine check by more than one shop, had a skoke test and oil consumption test done on it and the oil is burning excessively with no resolutions.

13 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2013 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 07/04/2019

Audio Q5 2013 Audi 2. 0 tfsi engine high oil consumption. There is a design flaw with the engine that causes high oil consumption. As a result, engine oil leaks into the cylinders which cause the engine to stall, damage the engine and impede acceleration. I have added oil on 3 occasions this year - 2019. The first indication to add oil came back in 2015 - 2 years after buying the car brand new and after about 30000 miles. The first breakdown occurred in 2017 after I stopped at a traffic light then attempted to accelerate up on a hill, I wasn't told what the issue was, but Audi covered the repair charges since the car had about 35000 miles on it and the manufacture's warranty was recently expired. After breaking down on the highway again 2 years later, the car was taken to the dealer which then informed me that a blown cylinder was the cause and it's best I replace all 4 cylinders because they were all going to fail at sometime. After the repairs were completed, I drove about 500 miles, then the car indicated to add oil again. I also happen to notice that when the oil is low there is hesitation whenever I start to accelerate from a dead stop or going up a hill. I continue to add oil whenever the car indicates, but the issue gets worse by the mile. . Read more...

14 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2012 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 06/15/2019

I purchased my 2012 Audi from carmax with 20,??? miles on it. It now has 106,000. I noticed more oil consumption than it should. I am very very on top of maintaining my vehicles. Regular maintenance original Audi parts during replacement. . . . Then my check engine light came on. Had the code checked and it was turbo booster problem and crankshaft. Was told fixing crankshaft may possibly fix turbo booster code without paying $3,000-4,000 to fix. As they were fixing it I was told the crankshaft had red letters on it meaning it came from a junkyard prior to my purchasing it! so it had to have gone bad before 20,000 miles which is ridiculous! so I paid the $500. 00 to fix it and drove it 158 miles and the check engine light came on again. So I just burned $500. 00 for nothing! I love my Audi but I will never ever purchase an Audi that is such an unreliable vehicle again. In doing research I see that 2012 Audi engines are very very bad news! apparently this is happening to a lot of Audi owners. Buyer beware!.

15 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2012 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 02/19/2019

I am having to add oil every 500-800 miles. I did not have the oil consumption test done due to it sounds like a waste of money and they do not even fix the problem. Is anyone having these problems in the 2013 models? I am thinking about trading it in or maybe I should just go to a different make truck.

16 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2013 Audi Q5

Excessive oil consumption. My engine burns excessive oil. I have to add more oil after driving every few 100 miles.

17 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2012 Audi Q5

18 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2011 Audi Q5

19 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2011 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 11/25/2017

After my car had been sitting for 8 days I went in garage to crank it. The car cranked but shook violently. I immediately shut it off. I tried to re crank it but it would not crank. I called Audi and had it towed in. They told me the "lifetime" timing chain was stretched. That the repair would cost between $4,000 and $7,000 to fix. I did some quick searching and saw other folks with similar issues. The car has 98,000 miles , always serviced by Audi. I called Audi and told them this appears to be a re occurring issue and I though they should handle the fix. They called me back and said they would split the cost. I told them to proceed with the repair. This is the second major problem with the engine, the first was "oil consumption" which they repaired for free. Another $7,000 fix. I just saw a episode on "news 5 investigates" chicago describing the exact same issue with a vw, and also listing Audi's 2011. Its on their website.

20 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2011 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 03/28/2016

After my Q5 has been in the service department 3 times for the same issue broke down on a very busy highway with my small child on board. My Audi advisor told me to try to bring it to the dealer. We did not make it. Car had to be towed. After 2 weeks, I was advised I needed a new engine at the cost of $14,700. This is after it had been fixed several times before for the same issue. Secondly, it has a recall that has been published and Audi's response to me was the recall repair is not available yet. They are however are working with takata to produce replacement parts. So, again they are jeopardizing mine and my families safety. And the oil consumption is ridiculous. No vehicle should use a quart of oil every 1000 miles. This is an unacceptable company and their responses are all scripted.

21 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2012 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 04/01/2015

It came to my attention at 70,000 miles that I had to occasionally add oil between oil changes. At 95,000 miles the oil consumption increased. Currently at 100,000 miles oil consumption increased to a quart of oil every 1000 miles. Two auto repair businesses, including shearer Audi of south burlington vermont, have looked at my car. Each repair business tells me that there are two costly possibilities to fix the car. The bottom line is that it seems to need a new engine block and pistons and all. It seems that shearer Audi service rep should have warned me that there might be a problem with the oil consumption before my Audi¿s warranty was up. It also seems that the 2012 Q5 should have been included in the class action oil consumption law suit. As you are aware, Audi has been aware of this defect for years and yet the 2012 2. 0t engine does not seem to be redesigned to fix the problem.

22 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2011 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 05/28/2014

Vehicle is burning and consuming oil. I take to dealer for oil changes and last one indicated great. Every 4 days I have to put a quart of oil in the truck. I only have 67,000 miles and no warranty. Audi isn't taking responsibility for the car. And there are no bulletins or recalls from Audi although I've read numerous post about oil consumption in the Audi Q5.

23 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2011 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 02/28/2014

The vehicle was purchased with 20,000 miles and has been burning oil since. The car is under warranty and has gone through the manufactures oil consumption test, both 1 and 2 which they are saying barely passed. The car is continuing to burn oil and has gone through phase 1 again for the second time and am being told it passed. Audi states an oil change is good for 10,000 miles and here I am at 7,000 miles having to put oil in it and taking my car to the dealership every few months to test it.

24 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2011 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 10/02/2012

The Audi 2. 0t engine is known to have issues with significant oil consumption. The car has been at Audi with this issue several times. During other service visits I have entioned to the Audi dealer that the car burns a quart of oil every 1000-1200 miles. Audi claims that this is part of the engine design in order for it to give better fuel economy. This is clearly not true. I have friends with Audis equipped with the 2. 0t engine and they have zero oil consumption. There are multiple online blogs with other Audi owners complaining about this issue. It is clearly something that Audi should be forced to issue a recall to resolve the matter.

25 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2010 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 02/26/2012

The car suddenly stopped not letting me start the engine or move the car again after two minutes. It was something very dangerous but I was lucky that no other car was behind us at that moment. When we had the chance to switch the car on again, there was an alert symbol shown telling us to drive carefully at very slow speed and preferably to take it to the dealer for service. The dealer had the car few weeks where they changed something in the automatic gear system and its software. This car had previously an engine change more than a year ago for problems in the oil consumption. All this happen in costa rica (not USA).
