1 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 08/14/2025

While driving and when parked, a strong odor of gasoline enters the cabin and garage. This poses a significant risk of fire and health hazards from fumes. The issue relates to the fuel system. The vehicle was previously serviced for the 2017 fuel system recall, but the problem has reappeared. This defect puts my safety and the safety of others at risk because it could result in a fuel leak and possible fire. The problem has not yet been confirmed by a dealer during this recurrence, but it has been persistent and makes the vehicle unsafe to drive. No warning lamps or dashboard messages appeared before or during the problem.

2 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 05/12/2025

Fuel pump has been recalled on other models but not mine. I have a 2018 Audi Q5. It had a warranty extension but the previous owner never claimed but if it would have been a recall then I wouldnt be having this problem . Now I have to replace the water pump and pay almost $2k for something that wasn't a recall.

3 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 02/25/2025

When I'm waiting to turn and have to almost stop, there is a lag when I accelerate causing the anticipated time to make the turn longer than expected. Almost caused an accident because car wouldn't go when gas was pushed. Very scary.

4 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 02/10/2025

Back in 2017 there was a recall on my 2016 Audi Q5 regarding the fuel pump. Audi's solution to this recall was to replace the fuel pump if it had any cracks, but if there weren't any cracks their protocal was to just put a protective shield on the fuel pump. Since my car was only a year old, all that Audi did was the protective shield. A few weeks ago, my car started smelling like leaking fuel. After a couple days I took it to Audi since there had been a recall. My car has less than 63,000 miles on it and according to service persons that have looked at my car, it is in excellent condition. However, Audi service told me that because the protocol for the recall was performed on my car back in 2017, there was nothing they could do except replace my fuel pump and charge me for the work done. The noxious fumes were so bad that I could not drive my car without having all the windows down. I found out that when the intake fuel pump goes bad, so does the high pressure fuel pump and both have to be replaced along with the pressuer sensor. This cost me $2,700. After getting my car back and driving it less than 25 miles, I was stranded on the road and had to have my car towed back to the shop with a broken steering rack and a dead battery. Come to find out, the steering rack is another issue going on with Audi vehicles. These are very serious and life threatening situations, especially with noxious fumes from gasoline which is highly flammable. Audi needs to reimburse me the $2,700 for the fuel pump replacement cost that I would not have incurred if my fuel pump had actually been replaced in 2017, instead of a band-aid being put on it, which was negligence on Audi's part. By not replacing the fuel pump, I ended up with a gas leak in my car, my car dangerously breaking down in the middle of the road and having to be towed and ultimately a very costly repair for me of which Audi doesn't want to own any responsibility in.

5 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 01/01/2025

Audi Q5 shows no recalls on my vehicle. My car stops randomly while driving even while being on highways and interstates. As well as the passenger side leaking due to sunroof drainage coming to the inside (which may affect the air bags). This car has not had any repairs on recalls that I know of personally.

6 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 10/18/2024

My words: an overheated electrical connection near the fuel tank overheated, thus cutting off the fuel pump system. This is similar to other fuel pump recalls with Audi a3 vehicles. Beginning of mechanic report: concern? = customer states he was on a trip driving on the highway, parked it and it wouldnt restart. Vehicle is cranking and not starting. Codes were pulled from the vehicle is there are fuel pump related codes. Cause = confirmed concern vehicle does not start. Fault codes p0087, p3073, p3043, removed rear seat and checked pump control module. Found power supplied to control module but no power to pump. Also found connector to control module melted. Advise replacement of control module, in tank pump, and control module connector to start. " end of mechanic report the markings on the fuel pump control module are as follows, line by line: "vw emblem" "Audi emblem" germany 1j0 973 726 >pbi< fep 1/3 3699.

7 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 08/08/2024

There is some issue with emission system for Audi Q5 which results in oil warning light coming on. It looks like that this is a common issue as there are about 22 vehicles with same defect at one dealership. It looks like Audi dealerships and Audi themselves are aware of this issue and do not have parts to repair this. With the emission issue earlier with vw, not sure if this is a systemic issue. I have been told that the part no. Is 7lo 906 243 f this problem came up one month back and this has not been repaired as of now being told that the part is on back order. The issue is still not resolved as part is on back order and I have to drive with the engine warning light.

8 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 02/10/2024

My SUV had stopped heating/defrosting and vehicles car charging ports appear to not be working any longer. It was discovered that my coolant pump was blocked with debris. The heat has returned, still no power to the charge points in vehicle. While driving on highway, my vehicles dash started to light up instructing me to turn off engine coolant low (electric). However, my h c coolant gauge was just below midpoint. It appears to be a bit faulty. Nonetheless, I pulled off highway and asked a local car supplier store and mechanic shop to look, they reported that it appears to be leaking coolant inside the vehicle puddling the coolant in the undercarriage of the vehicle not leaving any visible signs of leaks on driveway. Please advise.

9 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 11/15/2023

In 2017 Audi repaired a leaky fuel pump in my Q5 due to a recall. My vehicle now has less than 35k miles since that repair and the new-replacement fuel pump flange is failing again. Fuel was coming out and created a significant fire risk to life and property. Audi has refused to deal with the issue and speaking with mechanics at 3 dealerships revealed that the replacement parts are failing at an alarming rate. I would like this looked into.

10 Other Fuel System problem of the 2023 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 11/09/2023

My wife was pulling into a parking spot when all of a sudden the cars engine accelerated causing the car to jump one curb, hit a step and striking a pole before finally the brakes stopped the car from going through a storefront. None of the safety crash features stopped the vehicle. My wifes foot was on the brake, not the accelerator. Previously we had the vehicle in for service to reset the computer that kept freezing. Unfortunately we did not research Audi in detail before we bought. Since this occurrence, we have seen that some of Audi's models have had a history of "unintended sudden acceleration" and that there was actually a class action lawsuit years ago. After reading about those occurrences, we believe that this is what occurred. Audi corporate sent their engineers to download the computer data. They concluded that there was no computer error and no evidence of impact. Clearly there was impact since the car had to be repaired. I have since driven the exact route into the parking lot to see if possibly my wifes foot could have been on the accelerator. I made a right turn, quick left turn and quick right turn into the parking spot and my foot was on the brake the entire time. All third parties that have looked at the vehicle don't believe that there was a computer acceleration malfunction because the engineers said that they didn't identify a problem. I will never drive an Audi again. After this incident, I have spoken with other Audi owners and there seems to be issues with the german engineered "safety" controls. Apply brakes when not necessary, lane control jerking back into traffic when in an exit only lane. I am thankful that no person was in front of my vehicle when this occurred.

11 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 09/17/2023

Faulty pistons, piston rings and piston heads responsible for excessive oil consumption. Excessive oil consumption occurs because the combustion chamber is not properly sealed off from the Audi turbo engine parts that need to remain lubricated. Because of inadequate lubrication, fragments of the piston rings flow through the Audi 2l turbo engines and damage important components. As a result, our 2015 Audi Q5is at risk for immediate loss of engine power. There is currently a class action law suit against Audi for this problem for cars in this year range, but nothing has been solved. Audi's answer to this problem is to bring the car in every 300-500 miles for free oil top offs. This does not solve the underlying problem nor eliminate the deadly risk of total engine failure. People are driving around in vehicles at risk for complete failure. The Audi dealership states that to replace piston rings, it will cost between $10,000 and $12,000. Absolutely unsafe and unacceptable.

12 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 09/09/2023

Vehicle: 2015 Audi Q5 2. 0t VIN: [xxx] at around 70,000 miles, my vehicle began consuming engine oil abnormally. I received a low-oil warning and had to add 1 quart every 1,000 miles. I first approached an authorized Audi dealer at 75,000 miles, who inspected the vehicle and stated this was “normal for older vehicles” and found no issues. However, the problem worsened rapidly. By 79,000 miles, I visited a second Audi dealer who acknowledged that this was a common problem in this engine type. They quoted me $16,000–$20,000 for a full engine replacement, stating they could not replace pistons alone. At 80,000 miles, my car now consumes 1 quart of oil every 200 miles. The oil warning light comes on frequently. I am forced to carry oil and top off multiple times per week. This is not normal wear for a luxury vehicle with regular maintenance. This condition creates multiple safety risks: •sudden engine seizure or power loss if oil runs too low, especially while driving at highway speeds. •loss of steering/brake assist due to oil pressure failure. •increased fire risk from leaks or overheating. •frequent roadside stops to add oil, risking exposure to traffic. •distraction while driving due to monitoring oil levels. •environmental hazard from oil spills. The engine remains available for inspection. The vehicle has only been inspected by Audi dealerships. Audi should be held accountable for a defect that compromises safety and reliability at relatively low mileage. I urge NHTSA to investigate and take appropriate action. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

14 Other Fuel System problem of the 2014 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 07/05/2023

Unknown, but can assure the gas tanks has cracks and leaking gas, along with the smell of gas inside the car and outside the car. Called Audi and spoke with a rep but they dont want to acknowledge the recall which was issued for the vehicle. I made an appointment with Audi new orleans, but the earliest appointment to get the vehicle check is August 28th, 2023. I have to go to work and the car can possibly catch a fire to the tank actually leaking. This is extremely dangerous and life threating. I definetly need help because let Audi tell it they dont see a recall at all for my vehicle.

15 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 07/02/2023

Fuel pump developed cracks and is leaking terribly. Looks like someone put a temporary seal when recalled (likely due to unavailability of parts at time).

16 Other Fuel System problem of the 2014 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 05/04/2023

The car has a known "oil consumption issue" that has led to engine failure that Audi has failed to take responsibility for. This is a 2104 Audi Q5. The car is in san francisco and available for inspection. The car vibrates and can't be safely driven at highway speeds, if the engine suddenly lost power on the highway it could be a major safety issue for the driver and other drivers. The dealer has reproduced the issue and diagnosed it as needing new pistons and rings at 99,000 miles (but it has had this issue since in the 60,000 mile range, they just said keep adding oil). It has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives, just the dealers. I'm sure some warning lights came on, but could not say which ones or when.

17 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 04/13/2023

Fuel vapor in cabin. Research indicated need to inspect fuel pump. Removed inspection cover and found fuel puddled all around pump and noted fuel would re-plenish through apparent micro-fractures in the plastic pump housing when wiped away. Crack not visible but fuel obviously coming through housing after being wiped. I am 4rth owner. Ntsb site and Audi site shows no open recalls. Carfax received on purchase of the car shows no open recalls but at the same time shows no evidence of Audi or vw service since the recall was issued in 2016 (very strange). Very similar description in incident #11353734. Image and video taken of the pump housing and fuel surrounding it.

18 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 02/09/2023

Paid for fuel pump when should b covered on recall.

19 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 09/03/2022

- fuel pump assembly leaking under rear passenger seat. Fuel odor in rear of car spreads to entire car quickly when engine is on. - strong gasoline odor spreads quickly inside car cabin. Gasoline leaks from bottom of undercarriage near exhaust pipe causing a fire hazard. - the issue was confirmed by mechanic. A crack in fuel pump causes fuel to leak from pump when engine is on. - vehicle has been inspected by a mechanic. Mechanic verified fuel leak from top of fuel pump. - no warning lamps or messages displayed prior or during the problem. Problem occurred 1 week ago.

20 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 06/01/2022

The car is using/burning excessive oil. I’m adding oil every 300-500 miles. There was an open recall in the past for the exact same consumer problems. I purchased this car used in April of 2022 and it’s been an on going problem since I’ve had it.

21 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 05/19/2022

On the same day the 5 year warranty expired, the car stopped working. The car was towed to the dealer, and diagnose was gas pump failure. 3 months after, the same problem. After 1 month waiting for the car to be fixed, again the same problem. Now the dealer is saying they just figure there was a problem with a computer part that was associated to the gas pump. The car could have failed while I was driving, a life threatening problem,.

22 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 05/14/2022

We were driving home on the interstate when suddenly we got an “electrical system malfunction. Safely stop vehicle!” notification. We pulled over to the shoulder and were able to restart the vehicle but the check engine light was on. We were able to get to the nearest exit when the error appeared again. This time as I was pulling over, the screen went blank and I completely lost power to the vehicle. Thankfully this occurred in a very remote area and there were not a lot of cars around. If this had happened at a place without a shoulder (ex a construction zone, or a narrow winding mountain road) we would have had no place to pull over given the time between when we saw the error and when we lost power to the vehicle was only about ten seconds. At best we become a traffic obstruction. At worst if this occurred in a location with poor visibility we would be rear ended at extremely high velocity. Dealer diagnosed the issue and stated there is a TSB from Audi. The fix, however, is only coming end of q3 2022. We are supposed to drive a car that could shut down at any moment in the meantime and just hope it doesn’t happen again, the dealer could not provide a fix they simply cleared the error codes. Dealer said they have had 3 other 2022 Q5e come in with the same issue. The only indication of the failure came with the “electrical system malfunction. Safely stop vehicle!” error message. It appeared suddenly and we had no prior indication from the vehicle that something was wrong. We did have a check engine light after the error appeared the first time.

23 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Audi Q5

24 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 04/04/2022

Component: 2016 Audi Q5 available for inspection : unknown safety risk: yes the car was just driven and parked in the garage, approximately 30 minutes prior to our discovery of the fire. My wife and I had to escape the fire. Unknown yes the town of sterling, MA fire department investigated the fire and determined that the vehicle caused the fire (see attached report). Then, amica insurance company had mark sullivan from nefco do an investigation. He verbally told us that he thought it was the car that started the fire, but he was told by the insurance company attorney to not make a written report (see attached email). Amica had the vehicle brought to sd lyons facility in seekonk, MA to investigate the vehicle's charred remains. Audi's representatives were also present. No physical evidence was found to prove that the car caused the fire. Mark sullivan, fire investigator, in his attached email to us indicated that this does not mean the fire did not originate at the vehicle but that they could not find any physical evidence from the burnt remains of the car. In addition, there are eye witnesses, since the garage door was open. Our neighbors across the street saw what seemed to be small flames flickering near the right rear side of the car, which would flare up and decrease. Soon there after the car was consumed in fire. The description given sounds like a possible rule leak. This vehicle was purchased at Audi nashua in nh and was regularly serviced by this dealership. No.

26 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 12/01/2021

On Wednesday, December 1, 2021 I filled my car up with gas. Shortly after I noticed a fuel smell from the outside and on the inside of the car. On Thursday, December 2, 2021 I drove to jupiter FL approx a two hour car drive it smelled like gas the whole entire drive there on the inside of the car and even worse on the outside. When I got home on Friday night December 3, 2021 it was still just as bad. I took my car to the mechanic today Saturday, December 4, 2021 and upon the mechanic putting it on the lift you could see two leaks on the gas tank one at the front and one at the rear. He will be removing the seat on Monday to look further into the issue.

30 Other Fuel System problem of the 2014 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 06/16/2021

I am writing about an incident that happened to my wife while she was driving my car from los angeles, CA to phoenix, az on June 16, 2021. My wife was driving the Audi Q5 at approximately 75mph and 125 miles west of phoenix (near the CA/az border) when the car suddenly loss power. She stepped on the gas and noticed the speed gradually dropping. Fortunately, she had the presence of mind and barely had enough time to pull over to the shoulder. It was at this point that she called to tell me that the car would no longer start and the “check engine” and “epc” light indicators were illuminated. This occurred at approximately 12:30 noon during a severe heatwave where the outside temperature was 117 degrees. I asked her to wait for 10 minutes to try to restart the car; the car would not restart. She called aaa towing and was told the wait would be over one hour because of the rural location (quartzsite, az). She ended up waiting a little over 3 hours in her car, without air conditioning, in 117 degrees for a tow truck driver to arrive. The car was towed to her sister’s house in goodyear, az at a cost of $673. The next day, she had the car towed to the Audi dealership in peoria, az where it was diagnosed the car had suffered a fuel vapor lock due to the heat. The car has less than 28,000 miles on the odometer when the incident happened. Audi peoria kept the car for a couple of days because the parts had to be ordered from los angeles. Ultimately, the repair bill from the dealership came to $1,983. I felt helpless and scared for my wife that I was not able to assist her as I was 3 hours away. What if my wife (or another driver) was unable to pull over to the side of the road? the chances of an accident are dramatically increased if the vehicle was stuck on the highway. As you can imagine, my wife has been traumatized by this incident and we are both fearful that this incident can happen again. Therefore, we request that NHTSA investigate this incident.

Extreme oil consumption (burning 2+ quarts in less than 500 miles); cutting off while idling. Yes it is available for inspection upon request. If this is a leak, it could possibly catch on fire while my child is driving to school, or it could cut off while driving causing a bad accident. Yes it has been confirmed by a repair facility. Check/add oil indicator; check engine light; emits black smoke from rear. Issues appeared 2 days after purchasing the car.

My car is a really strong odor of fuel or gasoline in the cabin it's super severe and I don't know where it's coming fromdoesn't matter if it's running if I'm driving summer starting it it's it's just takes a little while for it to start to stink and then once it's been on for a couple minutes it starts to just wreak.

34 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 12/05/2020

I took my vehicle to Audi south austin on 6/1/22 regarding my a/c and back up camera not working, continuous oil consumption issue, passenger air bag light turning on, and rpm higher than normal while idling. Christina turner told me that the wait for my car to be service was 3-4 weeks. She quoted me a price of $275 for each diagnostic test. I mentioned a recall regarding the auxiliary heater and she told me that the recall had previously been completed. I asked her if there was a warranty and she mentioned that it was 12 months/ 12,000 miles and that my vehicle was over that time frame. I have took my vehicle serval times to Audi south austin regarding the oil and coolant consumption. The first service was on 12/5/20regarding an oil change, multi point inspection, and coolant topped off. I was told if I had any issues with the oil or coolant consumption to let them know. I took my vehicle to Audi north austin on 2/8/21 regarding my coolant and oil consumption. The told me that I had an oil and coolant leak. When I mentioned the recall of the coolant pump, they told me that the oil leak caused the coolant leak and wouldn’t be covered. I notified Audi south austin regarding the issues and asked them why they didn’t notice the oil leak during the oil change and inspection. They told me that they would do the recall issue and charge me approximately $5,000 for the oil leak. After showing them the invoice from Audi north of the oil charge being approximately $1,500, they offered the same amount. I have returned to Audi south austin regarding the oil consumption and oil marks on the side of my car and they technician tells me that it’s normal for my make and model to consume oil and that I would just have to add oil. I’m worried that there is an electrical issue regarding the auxiliary recall and could catch fire while I’m driving. I also have 2 children and it’s difficult driving in 96 degrees weather without a/c and having to wait 3-4 weeks.
