36 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 01/04/2020

I was driving 65 miles an hour on I-95 in the left lane approaching the exit for I-695 north on Saturday, January 4th at 5:00pm. It was raining. No one was in front of me or behind me when my car dash lit up with an Audi pre sense red sign on a black background. The brakes stopped the car suddenly on their own and my seat belt slammed me tightly into my seat. Fortunately no one was behind me or this could have caused a multi car accident. There was nothing visible on the road to set this system off. Monday morning I went to the dealer to see if they could disconnect this system since I was now afraid this would happen again and I would not be so lucky with the traffic situation the next time. They lowered the sensitivity but they could not disconnect the system. I also called Audi to inform them about this hazard. They noted it on their record but said it is part of the car and it could not be disconnected. When I looked on line there were many complaints about this problem; however none of the other drivers were on the open highway full speed ahead. Can this problem be looked into before someone's car causes a major pileup with serious injuries. Thank you!.

38 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 09/19/2019

1. I had an accident at approximately 10:45 a. M. On Thursday, September 19, 2019 in the parking lot for the medical offices located at 2000 south mays street, round rock, texas. 2. I parked in a space on the south side of the building, which is part of their property. 3. My normal habit is to place the car in park when I stop in a parking spot. 4. Since it was very warm, I left the motor running so I'd have air conditioning as I placed the sun screen over the windshield. 5. The sun shade is one piece and takes a lot of time and effort to properly install. 6. When I completed installing the sun shade, I noticed the car was moving backwards at less than 5 mph. 7. I tried repeatedly to stop the car by pressing on the brake and slamming on the brake. 8. What was happening made no sense to me; it was surreal. Why was the car moving backwards and why couldn't I stop the car? 9. The car stopped when it hit a parking lot light pole on my left rear and the left front of a Toyota on my right rear. 10. The car is equipped with every pre sense, driver assistance, and collision avoidance system Audi offers; however, all systems failed to detect or avoid the collision. 11. The accident was caused by some weird problem with my 2018 Audi Q5. There was nothing I could do in the time I had without the brakes working.

39 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 03/13/2019

My brakes have lost hydraulic pressure several times. The pedal goes to the floor when braking to a stop. I seen a 2018 recall but mine does same.

40 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 03/10/2019

On multiple occasions when driving the Audi Q5 the pre-sense engages inappropriately (no trigger) resulting in an immediate and harsh braking of the car to a complete stop. In traffic, this poses a significant risk of a crash resulting in damage and potential bodily injury. The Audi pre-sense is designed to stop a car from an imminent crash, however an apparent flaw in the technology engages the pre-sense without totally unnecessarily (no cross traffic, at least 10 feet from a bush or other object). Not only does the unexpected and unnecessary hard auto-braking add wear and tear to the brakes and suspension, it poses a real risk of an accident as other drivers do not expect the sudden and unnecessary braking. This happens intermittently without a pattern in dry and wet weather on a flat surface or an incline. Always occurs when in reverse.

41 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 10/06/2018

While driving about 45 on the highway, a light came across my dash that said parking brake malfunction! moments later my 2011 Audi Q5 came to a complete stop causing a 3 car pile up. My car had just been serviced in June and gotten new brakes at that time as well.

42 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 06/14/2018

The vehicle was stopped and I was intending to turn left at a signal light. When the signal changed for me to proceed I accelerated into my left turn when the car suddenly braked on its own and pulled me back into the seat. The Audi sense indicator came on being activated as if it sensed I was about to make impact with another vehicle. However, I was the first vehicle turning left and there were no other vehicles in front of me nor any other vehicles opposite of my lane of travel so there were no vehicles anywhere near my vicinity that should have triggered the Audi sense. There were no vehicles behind me also turning or I'm sure they would have rear-ended my vehicle given the severe braking action. The system initiated a severe braking action as if I was about to rear-end another vehicle. This occurred on June 14, 2018 at at approximately 10:30 am. Weather conditions were warm, dry and clear with no precipitation. I believe this was caused by a malfunction in the Audi sense causing the braking system to initiate.

43 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 01/19/2018

My vehicle has a safety feature called Audi presence. My new vehicle Q5 prestige (less than 150 miles, just 6 days old) had malfunctioned with an unexpected automatic break on Jan 17th 2018 at around 7:29pm central time while on service road of highway 114 going towards west (straight road in motion) before reaching the intersection of freeport in irving, TX. There was nothing in the street that could be identified as an object that would cause a collision or any kind of accident. The sudden break really caused a mental shock to me. I was lucky to have no vehicle just behind me. I was driving at around 40 miles per hour. I have used collision avoidance technology for the last 3. 5 years (Mercedes Benz, Subaru forester and the latest being Toyota corolla) and I am very familiar with the technology and never ran into such issues. I contacted Audi support and they mentioned it is not unusual and you should take it to dealer. I took the vehicle to dealer and they informed it happens all the time and Audi is very sensitive to this compared to other brands to be more safe. They were not even willing to check the vehicle and wanted me to come back if it happen again. They also told they have no way to figure out what happened. On my escalation one of the senior manager in sales told me he owns Audi and pre sense run into this issues but need not be worried. Finally they ran an automated test and confirmed their report does not show any issues with the vehicle. I am driving the vehicle now but has the following concerns:1) Audi customer support not dealer is appears to be not trained how to handle safety issues when reported. 2) dealer did not register my reported issue. Their report provided did not capture what issue was reported. To me this is a bad practice. It is unclear if this was deliberate. I appreciate what NHTSA do.

44 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 08/19/2017

Without any warning, after driving brand new car for only 15000 miles, the brakes had a catastrophic failure (right rear wheel). Luckily I was in a service road otherwise this would have been catastrophic. I got the car serviced 2 months ago and everything was fine (just some rusting on the brakes) so the Audi authorized dealership let me drive saying we should look at it next year. The car is right now at that same dealership and I also worry they would tamper with it or have some other issue in it.

45 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 11/05/2016

I have a 2016 Audi Q5 and recently was involved in a serious single-car accident. I was parking my car and moved my foot to brake when the car surged forward over a couple of boulders through the trees flipping once and rolling down an embankment. I, miraculously, came out of the incident unscathed. Three weeks earlier my brother-in-law borrowed my car and said I should have the car checked because it surged forward on him on three different occasions when he went to brake. I dismissed his comments, thinking he was not used to my car. Turns out there may have been a connection to both of our experiences and a serious safety issue with the car. I have contacted Audi corporate, but wanted to register this incident.

46 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 05/10/2016

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Audi Q5. While driving 70 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard and took longer to stop the vehicle when it was depressed. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to Audi reno tahoe (located at 9190 s virginia st, reno, nv 89511, (775) 335-1335) where it was diagnosed, but the contact was not aware of the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.

47 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

This is the third incident where the car came to a stop, with no throttle response, when I made a hard left turn (u-turn from a standing stop) instead of accelerating as expected. There appear to be several thousand similar complaints in your database, from many different makes, where the abs system cuts power to the engine instead of allowing a rapid acceleration from a standing start, when there is no traction problem, and cutting the power creates an immediate risk of crash by oncoming traffic. The car was 'dead' for about two seconds and then power was restored, allowing me to avoid being hit by oncoming traffic. But the bigger issue appears to be that the abs system will sometimes cut power for no reason, endangering the driver and vehicle. This is apparently widely documented and ongoing since at least the year 2000, and not specific to Audi. Updated 3/20/lj updated 03/20/2014.

48 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 02/05/2014

Severe brake squeeling when backing up and moving forward at low speeds. Progressively getting worse. Dealer has tried several fixes (cleaning) to no avail. My concern (other than the hurting the ears of by standers) is further brake performance degradation.

49 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 02/05/2014

I was traveling on the interstate and had to brake. As soon as I hit the brake pedal it fell to the floor and I fortunately was able to swerve to the shoulder and after hitting the brakes a few times them came back. About a week later my wife and kids experienced the same issue, again avoiding an accident. This seems like a common problem with posts on Audi forum. They offered an extension on the vehicle warranty but that doesn't prevent someone getting killed due to malfunctioning brakes.

50 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 02/10/2013

At approximately 6:00 pm the evening of February 10, 2013, I was returning with my mom (front passenger) on I-66e headed back home, a vehicle in front of me stopped suddenly because a vehicle in front of her stopped for no apparent reason. I engaged my brakes and had come to a complete stop without touching the car in front of me and then the next thing I know I came in contact with her bumper. We thought initially we had been hit from behind, however, after inspecting my rear bumper there seemed to be no indication that had occurred. Even the driver in front of me acknowledged that I was at a stop before coming in contact with her bumper. What I believe occurred has to do with the Audi braking system. I have raised this problem of the brakes skipping and other related issues on multiple occasions with Audi's service department, Audi u. S. / german corporate offices and Audi "customer experience" center and according to my maintenance logs they have performed a variety of checks including updating the software and other repairs. This vehicle has been in repeatedly to the Audi dealerships prior to this incident and after this incident for brake and gear issues amongst other problems. I still continue to have similar issues of the brakes not properly engaging, a lot of creaking/groaning noises/excessive break dust from the brakes and when I place the gear shift from reverse into drive it jerks forward. Audi has been completely unhelpful and has done nothing to resolve the matters satisfactorily which I have been trying to do since shortly after the time of the incident in February.

51 Service Brakes problem of the 2012 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

The distance between the accelerator and brake peddle is inadequate and on multiple instances my foot has gotten stuck. It has gotten stuck while accelerating and also when going to move my foot off the accelerator and onto the brake peddle.
