Adaptive Cruise Control Problems of Audi Q7

My wife was driving the car with the adaptive cruise control set at 72mph on 5/11/2025. The milage on the odometer was about 37165. A car was close behind when suddenly on of the systems in my car slammed on the brakes and attempted to stop the car. There were no warning indicators to suggest why this had happened. My last Audi, a 2020 a6, did this as well. It had a number of safety systems malfunctioning around the same time. At one time, I was told by the Audi dealer that the car was unsafe to be driven and it would not return the car to me. It was impounded for about six weeks as I recall. Whatever the reason, this is a serious safety issue when an vehicle suddenly tries to stop at that rate of speed on a highway with other vehicles on the road.

Audi pre-sense failure warning came on. I took it to Audi fairfield CT and it was diagnosed as having a bad camera/sensor in the windshield. This could have resulted in a collision. The repair would have cost almost $3000. I bought a used one and went to an independent shop for calibration.

I drove on highway 5 south from los angeles towards san diego in the morning. I followed the traffic in the middle lane and turned on the acc, including the lane-keep assist, at the same time. The speed was set at 78 mph, but the traffic was moving faster than that. The distance was set to level 3 for acc auto brake. After passing a speed limit sign, the head-up display suddenly showed a speed limit warning light, and at the same time, the vehicle suddenly braked and reduced speed to 65 mph. The vehicle behind me almost crashed into me. The acc didn’t behave the same way as in the past, and I didn’t receive any notice from the dealer or manufacturer about this significant change. This could definitely be a major problem when using acc in traffic. For example, if the traffic is moving at 80 mph and you set acc at 80mph, when pass a 55 mph speed limit sign, the vehicle will quickly reduce speed to 55 mph, which could cause a serious problem for the cars behind.

Rear coil spring broke without any load on the vehicle. This condition causes some of the safety features to not work such as adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.

Icy road, pulling up to stop sign, at 5-8 mph , had just pulled out of parking space, touched brakes to slow down, brakes locked up, tried to pump to release brakes with no response, car stopped brakes released.

My vehicle [xxx] has a few symptoms that no Audi dealer or european repair shop can tell me the issue first the epg blinks on then the vehicle won’t start then once it finally starts up in the parking gear it’s revving up as if I pressing on the gas it does this on its own my check engine light comes on even when the necessary maintenance have been done. When driving with the cruise control on, the vehicle automatically adjusts the speed to the speed limit. On occasion, when driving at freeway speeds, it will pick up the speed limit from a cross street (over or under pass). This happened on a recent trip with the vehicle set at the speed limit of 75, then suddenly and automatically braking because it detected a 45 mph cross street. With most traffic moving at 75 mph, this was extremely dangerous to suddenly brake for no apparent reason with people right behind us. We can no longer us our cruise control because of this. The Audi dealership could not replicate this issue. It only happened to us in a small number of circumstances, but was dangerous and frightening when it did. The automatic speed adjust also apparently cannot be turned off. The dealership did mentioned they were aware of another Audi vehicle they had seen with the same issue.

Adaptive cruise and speed control were intermittently operating eventually resulting in a defective system. No resolution at this time.
