1 Equipment problem of the 2011 Audi Q7

Failure Date: 09/06/2025

Driving on a country road with no vehicle in front of me - a loud explosion occurred and realized the front panel of the sunroof had exploded. Luckily, the screen was closed at the time and no large glass fragments fell into the occupants of the vehicle - there were five of us at the time. Arrived at a friend’s house to vacuum out the small slivers of glass pieces that fell through the screen. The outside temperature that day was approximately 80°f. The explosion sounded like gunfire and it was very scary. My [xxx] (nephew) started crying after the incident because it was very shocking to all of us. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

2 Equipment problem of the 2025 Audi Q7

Failure Date: 08/22/2025

I am filing a formal complaint regarding serious safety-related defects in a newly purchased Audi vehicle. Immediately upon delivery, the car presented: • a faulty solenoid, a critical engine component, creating risks of engine misfires, sudden stalling, loss of acceleration, and transmission malfunctions while driving. Such failures pose imminent hazards during the cross-country travel that military families like mine regularly undertake. • defective windshield wipers from the outset, jeopardizing visibility and safety during inclement weather. These defects demonstrate systemic quality control failures by Audi, undermining the safety expectations owed to u. S. Consumers. Requested action I urge NHTSA 1. Investigate Audi for potential violations of federal motor vehicle safety standards. 2. Evaluate whether a recall is warranted, as this appears not to be an isolated case. 3. Hold Audi accountable for delivering vehicles with concealed or unaddressed safety defects. As a u. S. Military officer, I cannot risk the safety of my family in a vehicle plagued by such defects. American families deserve full confidence that new vehicles meet uncompromising safety standards.

3 Equipment problem of the 2021 Audi Q7

Failure Date: 08/18/2025

The recall involves the virtual cockpit instrument cluster. Audi requires the use of the vehicle’s usb port to complete the update. However, my usb system is not functioning properly. •the issue: Audi has refused to perform the recall because of the inoperable usb. They have stated that without the usb, they cannot install the update. They are not offering any alternative method or solution to ensure that this recall is completed. •why this is a concern: a recall is issued because of a safety-related defect. The manufacturer is obligated under federal law to remedy the defect at no cost to the owner. By refusing to provide a solution beyond requiring a functioning usb, Audi is failing its duty to correct a known safety defect. This leaves me driving a vehicle with an unresolved recall. •my position: it is unreasonable and negligent for Audi to deny responsibility simply because the recall requires a usb port that is not functioning. The recall repair should be performed regardless, whether through replacement of the port, use of alternate diagnostic tools, or another approved method. By refusing to act, Audi is leaving my vehicle unrepaired, unsafe, and in violation of recall compliance obligations. Requested action: I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate Audi’s handling of this recall and require them to provide an effective remedy at no cost to me, in accordance with federal safety recall requirements.

5 Equipment problem of the 2021 Audi Q7

Failure Date: 07/20/2025

On [xxx], I experienced multiple failures of core safety systems in my 2021 Audi Q7 that put my 17-month-old child at serious risk and exposed critical flaws in how the vehicle’s systems operate and record events. On [xxx], the pre sense automatic braking system suddenly engaged while I was driving approximately 35 mph on a clear, empty suburban road. There were no visible obstructions, no warning lights, and nothing recorded in the vehicle’s logs. This occurred less than 48 hours after the vehicle had received recall-related software updates and routine service at an Audi dealership. Prior to that service, the vehicle had no history of mechanical or safety issues. The following day, the keyless entry and anti-lockout system failed. I placed my toddler in his rear-facing car seat behind the front passenger seat and set our baby bag—with the key fob inside—on the rear seat. After closing the door and walking to the driver’s side, the car unexpectedly locked. The fob and my child were both inside. The outdoor temperature was over 90°f. I attempted to open the vehicle and then to break the window with tools, without success. After approximately seven minutes, I broke the driver’s side window with a sledgehammer and removed my child from the car. The car alarm eventually activated, but no lock-in event, key fob error, or warning was recorded. The vehicle was inspected by the dealership twice and Audi corporate engineers once. Audi confirmed faults in the emergency call module, comfort system, rear lid sensor, and parking sensors. However, they could not reproduce or explain the braking event or lock-in failure. Audi confirmed that the vehicle should not be able to lock with the key inside, and they do not know why it did and are unable to guarantee the safety feature will work in the future. The vehicle has not been driven since. The failure of both safety function and system visibility placed my child in danger. I am requesting a safety investigation. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information.

6 Equipment problem of the 2019 Audi Q7

Failure Date: 04/25/2025

As always, my wife put her purse with the key in the purse in the front seat of the car while she was putting our (3) old grandchild in the care seat. As soon as my wife closed the back door all the doors locked, possibly our granddaughter hit the lock with her foot. The back doors only have a lock feature but not an unlock feature. My wife had to call the fire department to get the doors open. We live in florida, if this was summer, there could have been a health risk to our grandchild. (1) why with the keys in the car would it lock (2) why isn't there a way to unlock the doors from the back seat? I went on line and it looks like others have had this same issue.

7 Equipment problem of the 2017 Audi Q7

Failure Date: 01/13/2025

On oct. 7th, 2024, our Audi Q7 2017 needed software update because the front data screen (mmi system) was rebooting frequently while driving, causing the screen to go up and down to reset itself. The mission viejo, CA Audi dealership updated the software. We picked up our car on oct 24th, 2024. By the evening of oct 24th, 2024, an error message for ‘front right-side marker light defective’ appeared on the dashboard screen when we drove under bridges, dark areas, and at night. The error message appeared with multiple loud beeps each time it appeared. At night, the message would appear every 5-10 minutes, making the car undriveable at night. The dealership suggested they would have Audi corporate perform the Audi recall campaign 97cb – NHTSA campaign id 16v642000. With the holidays, time dragged on. The update was finally attempted 1/7/25-1/8/25. The dealership said the update failed and suggested I either buy a new light ($4895) or contact a tune-shop to turn-off the front side markers via coding/programming, thus reducing my safety and augmenting the factory software by an outside vendor. Once the mmi software system was updated, it caused the front marker light coding to malfunction. After more research in the last few weeks, the front marker light (NHTSA campaign id 16v642000) is a much broader issue than a light not working and still resides with Audi Q7 2017 this many years later.

8 Equipment problem of the 2019 Audi Q7

Failure Date: 01/10/2025

When the vehicle is connected to a cell phone and reliant on apple carplay for navigation support, the screen will freeze numerous times while in transit. This causes the driver to lose situational awareness. The natural impulse for most drivers is to try to remedy the issue while moving. Once the device is disconnected the application resets and loses the destination. This can happen while driving on a highway at a high rate of speed.

9 Equipment problem of the 2012 Audi Q7

Failure Date: 01/08/2025

On November 2, 2015, the environmental protection agency and California air resources board informed Volkswagen group companies that my model year 2012 3. 0l turbo diesel injection (tdi) vehicle did not comply with federal and California emissions standards. In the approved emissions modification, Audi lynbrook claims to have removed the software that reduced the effectiveness of my tdi's emission control system and to have installed new emission control software designed to function effectively in all normal driving conditions. Note: this "fix" that was devised to meet emission standards was never actually tested for "vehicle reliability, durability, performance, drivability or other driving characteristics", and by their own account would consume 40% more def [xxx], meaning it's stressing the emissions system 40% more than designed. Since the tdi modification my 2012 Audi Q7 tdi is having constant emissions system faults with 200 mile shutdown ransomware programming, and repeated replacement of the same components. It has rendered the vehicle as unreliable and now unusable unless I keep paying for Audi's "fix". My vehicle had no such issues prior to the tdi modification and received all regularly scheduled maintenance at Audi lynbrook. I have compiled all my service records including the tdi modification (7/26/18) then 9 emissions system failures (xxx). Currently, Audi lynbrook states that again emissions component replacement is needed, a part (rear nox sensor g687) that was replaced 4/10/2023 just 20 months for the second time since 11/12/2020. This failure to deliver a reliably working vehicle has already cost me considerably, so Audi has disabled my car with shutdown programming, taken it hostage needing proprietary Audi service, and are now demanding ransom to make it temporarily usable. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

13 Equipment problem of the 2020 Audi Q7

Failure Date: 09/14/2024

Panoramic sunroof imploded while traveling at freeway speeds (70mph) during normal conditions (no rain, hail, snow, etc. And temp) causing a large amount of glass to be blown into the cab of vehicle, striking the driver and passenger. With this loud implosion and visibility obstructed by flying glass debris it put the driver in a unsafe environment. This also put the passenger and other drivers on the road at a huge risk of an accident. Throughout the automotive industry, this has been a known issue over the past several years and even at the local Audi dealership in bellingham, wa. After conversation with dealership there was no known contributing factors to the implosion and was suspected to be a manufacturing defect.

14 Equipment problem of the 2021 Audi Q7

Failure Date: 08/10/2024

I continue to smell a foul, moldy odor almost every time I turn on the air conditioner or heater. It has been a problem since I purchased the vehicle in August of 2024. I took the car back to the dealer from which I purchased it four times. They finally “fixed” the issue by clearing out some tube. However, the issue has presented itself again. I had the cabin filter replaced last week to no avail. It still smells awful. I definitely cannot use the heater. This potentially presents a health issue and needs to be fixed.

15 Equipment problem of the 2023 Audi Q7

17 Equipment problem of the 2020 Audi Q7

Failure Date: 05/11/2024

The Audi 2020 Q7 experiences an sos emergency contact communication failure when it goes of cell service range and in certain circumstances, it does not reset itself or allow reconnection to the communication module after it goes back in range within cell service. This is a know issue, similar to Audi service bulletin 90t2 in which the NHTSA issued a recall (the Q7 model is not covered under that recall, but several other models within the same year are covered). As a result of this software bug, in certain circumstances, it the communication module may not be able to contact emergency services. Audi America dealerships require payment and charge consumers $276 for drivers to update the mmi system to correct the software “bug. ” due to the fact that it is a software issue, which requires updating by the dealership, extended warranties do not cover fees associated.

18 Equipment problem of the 2014 Audi Q7

Failure Date: 03/01/2024

The vehicle was leaking gas. The vehicle rarely would start. Fuses easily burn out or go bad due to possible electrical problems. Now I am having to purchase maybe it is called a drive shaft? or something that makes the vehicle not go or start?? I am not a mechanic but I pay a lot of money on this vehicle every month, the repairs are extremely high and not wating to ruin my credit due to neglect part of Audi company. I will also get pictures as soon as the mechanic can get the parts and start working on the next problem.

19 Equipment problem of the 2017 Audi Q7

Failure Date: 02/21/2024

You have a safety recall #16v-642 for this model and the dealer did not put my VIN# in the recall but yet my vehicle is saying the the left and right side marker lights are defective and the dealer will not correct it, instead they are trying to make me pay to replace the entire light harness for both head light assembly for $4,000, my next stop is with a class action law suit to get this taken up. I am wondering how many people with these cars have paid to replace their lights when apparently it’s just a software update but you cannot get the dealers to do it because in their computers Audi did not enter all the VIN numbers affected by this recall. I am asking for your help in this situation since you have the recall.

20 Equipment problem of the 2013 Audi Q7

Failure Date: 02/13/2024

Lately, I have been adding coolant to my car - 2013 Audi q& tdi and motor oil for unknown reasons why it was happening. It started last year, 2023. I thought it was a normal thing that the oil level and coolant level kept on getting depleted. Comparing with my other car, I. E. A 2016 Toyota avalon, I never encountered these problems my Audi car was serviced sometime 2018 and apparently all gaskets of the engine were replaced after I complained about severe leaking of oil inside my car garage. Until I went online to get if there were similar complaints of other users of this car were reported. My friend's car of same Audi model was also experiencing the same issue. I was also observing a similar gas smell inside my Audi car, whenever I start the engine and my air vent is not closed for couple of months. When I had it serviced to check my vent filter, the mechanic also noticed that there was leaking oil near the filter housing. The brake power is so low despite having it serviced for brake assist recall sometime in 2016 despite new brake pads were installed. I also noticed that the brake fluid was getting lower sometime July 2023. Looking at the list of recalls - these complaints were not addressed by those 3 recalls reported to NHTSA.

I was driving in the rocky mountains and head what sounded like a gun shot. I pulled over to inspect the vehicle and found that my moonroof had exploded. I was not behind any cars or trucks so I know it was not caused by a rock. I took the car into Audi where they told me it was a known issue. A few days later audu said it was not going to be covered with warranty and we were responsible for the damages. I have found multiple forums thay show this is a known issue and that Audi fails to inform their customers about the serious safety risk.

23 Equipment problem of the 2017 Audi Q7

Failure Date: 11/13/2023

I got the checking engine malfunction. Took it to the dealer for dianogtic found code p052e001 pcv ( crankcase breather valve fault and it need to be replace because it also caused the emission issue). I found it was under extentison warranty to 10 year or 120000 miles , I contacted Audi and they said my VIN is not eligible to the warranty. I believed they should provide the extension warranty for all of their vehicles.

On Sep 17 2023 my wife was driving her Audi Q7. Which has 25,780 miles. She drove to a parking lot for a hiking trip, pressed on the brake and the car instead of stopping accelerated. She kept trying to press the brake, however the car did not stop until it hit a tree. The car has been towed to our house and it is not driveable. The car has not been inspected yet. I plan on calling the Audi dealer on Monday, Sep 18th. No lights appeared before the incident.

29 Equipment problem of the 2007 Audi Q7

Failure Date: 08/31/2023

Water leakage into the driver’s side floor panel. Water leakage seeped into battery compartment below driver’s seat which is a result of a sunroof drain problem. New battery was installed for only 3 months before the low battery charge warning light came on. Car will not start at times. Water leakage into electrical components that lead to the mmi not turning on or working at all. The mmi shut off first, then the battery became faulty. The car has been jumped at least 10 times due to the water damage, which proposes a risk to the driver. The electrical components are being flooded, which is a safety issue and proposes a safety hazard to the driver and all passengers. The electrical is at risk for further damage. This problem has been reported by others many times. Other warning lights such as the air bag light comes on and goes off, which is a safety risk if the air bags are faulty and the driver cannot tell if the malfunction is electronics based caused by water damage.

The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 26,789. The VIN was not available.

31 Equipment problem of the 2017 Audi Q7

Failure Date: 08/13/2023

On the evening of 8/12/2023, my vehicle (2017 Audi Q7) began producing a vibrating noise while driving and a clunking noise while turning. The next day (08/13/2023), after halting at a traffic light and accelerating when the light turned green, a loud pop was heard from the rear of the vehicle. And the vehicle was unable to move forward or backward while the engine was running. The vehicle has been towed to the Audi dealer in chantilly, virginia. Upon multi point inspection, the service team found that the drive shaft got separated from the rear differential flange. All bolts connecting drive shaft found sheared off in rear differential flange. Initially the service team tried to extract broken bolts and replace bolts and gasket to reconnect drive-shaft. But after couple of days, they were unable to extract broken bolts. So the current recommendation is to replace rear differential pinion yoke, re-install driveshaft and rear exhaust section and re-evaluate operating condition. All six driveshaft bolts for connection to rear differential found broken off in pinion yoke. Unable to drill-out remaining material from broken bolts out of rear differential pinion yoke. The service person thinks parking brake may have got engaged when the acceleration pedal was pressed causing the bolts to break. But, in my opinion, that is not the reason. I am certain that the parking brake was not on at the traffic light. I would like to find the root cause why the drive shaft was separated from the rear flange. I am a bit nervous it may happen again and also want to help other Q7 owners if this a recall issue. In the following link the Audi service person posted a video that shows the separation of the drive shaft from the rear flange. I do not know how long the video will be accessible. Please watch the video as soon as possible. Https://dlrlnk. Com/bbh2fryqqtyr I have also recorded the video on my phone (screen recording). I will send some pictures as well. Thank you.

I have charged many phones in this car's wireless charging pad and they all get extremely hot. Fortunately I caught it early. When the phone was removed, it was too hot to touch. I believe there is a real risk of phones catching fire in this car. I've now discontinued use of the charger.

34 Equipment problem of the 2022 Audi Q7

Failure Date: 05/11/2023

Since purchase of this vehicle, it randomly trips a critical engine failure error do not exceed 1200 rpm. When it does this, it will idle at a much higher rpm than the do not exceed value, which causes the vehicle to come to a stop. The vehicle went into the shop during the winter of 2022, and they determined that it was a computer failure and replaced the car's computer system. The error went away until the winter/spring of 2023. In 2022, this error always occurred within a few blocks of home at low speed; but now this critical error will trip while driving on the roads at faster speeds, which causes the vehicle to rapidly decelerate. The dealership and service center looked over the issue and found that Audi has a technical bulletin out for this, and they expect a fix by fourth quarter 2023. Until then, they advise that it is not a problem and when the vehicle does this error wait until you're stopped and then turn the car off and back on to return the vehicle to normal operating conditions. Audi told the dealership there is no safety issue, and I'm telling the dealership that it will stop rapidly and without warning, and I was lucky the last time this happened that the cars behind me were paying attention. Neither Audi corporate or Audi bellevue consider this a safety risk, and that having a car stop suddenly and without warning to the driver or other cars on the road is perfectly fine. I've tried dealing with them all and the dealership states Audi says there is no safety issue and no fix so there is nothing we can do, and Audi USA customer care says that the dealership says it is safe so there is nothing we can do. It's a circle of nobody dealing with a serious safety issue. They state it's a rare occurrence, but I've had this happen several times over the 16 months I've owned the vehicle. See picture from text communicaiton.

35 Equipment problem of the 2023 Audi Q7

Failure Date: 05/09/2023

The front moonroof exploded while I was driving on the highway. There was heavy traffic so I was not traveling at a high speed. There was no debris that hit the roof. Without warning, it shattered and the falling glass cut my hand. I had to navigate to the side of the road while falling glass was hitting my head and body. It was hard to see with the glass falling.
