1 Electrical System problem of the 2001 Audi TT

Failure Date: 11/22/2018

Headlights just stopped working again for the umpteenth time. Park light and high beams work fine. This is a reoccurring problem with the low beams. Can be driving along fine and cut car off and start back up and low beams just won't come on. If it was 1 at a time I could see it as being no problem but they both stop working at the same time. Keep replacing switch and headlights. . . Thinking this would alleviate problem to no avail. See this is an ongoing problem with Audi owners. Also see that it's a recall on the newer models but not the late models.

5 Electrical System problem of the 2001 Audi TT

Electrical issue with gauge cluster, fuel gauge inaccurate (runs out of gas in middle of hwy), low oil pressure light comes on (manual says to stop immediately when light comes on), air bag light comes on! everything I have read states these are all problems with the gauge cluster (cost over $1000 to have replaced!) 6 Electrical System problem of the 2000 Audi TT

Failure Date: 05/18/2016

I am reaching out to you after our attempts to reach a satisfactory resolution to our 2000 Audi Tt concerns has not been resolved. I will summarize our needs/concerns for you. We purchased our new 2000 Audi Tt in 2000. We have had all regular service and repairs done at an Audi authorized dealer in north scottsdale, az and between 2005-2009, while living/working for a short-term in san jose, CA. We put minimal miles on this vehicle as a second automobile. Our current mileage is 82,000 miles. In 2005, at 53,813 miles, we had regular service performed at stevens creek Audi, in san jose, CA. During that visit, we stated concern over the instrument cluster panel¿s warning of a problem with our headlights, low beams or parking lights. The technician replaced the running light bulbs but the problem with the instrument cluster panel continued and has become increasingly worse with more failures to this date, such as the gas gauge does not operate, the digital readout is difficult to read, etc. When we investigated the instrument panel concern with our technician recently in scottsdale, we learned, by looking online, of the class action lawsuit and Audi¿s free repair offer (see information below). We had no knowledge of this in 2008 ¿ otherwise, we would have had the repair done in the timeframe given. We have asked our dealer to extend this free repair to us in light of the above, especially since we were experiencing problems with the instrument cluster panel before and during this time period noted above. We have not being able to get this resolved and so we are hoping that you will, at your corporate level of authority, be able to meet our needs. Thank you for your time and attention to our request. Failure Date: 04/01/2016

The trunk release button does not always work. The driver's window sometimes does not close up when door is closed thereby causing the dashboard to show that the door is open and beeping occurs. I also had to have the release for the gas cap disconnected due to not being able to release gas cap.

This is a know problem with Audi. They refuse to recall, but I wanted to just add to the list of people having an issue here. The gauges are flickering (gauge cluster). There should be a recall.

11 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Audi TT

Failure Date: 11/06/2013

My 2008 Audi Tt would constantly beep with "right rear light" or "left rear light" with an x through a light bulb symbol popping up on the screen in between the tachometer and the speedometer. If I applied the brakes, the x through a light bulb symbol would go away. It turns out that the light that is farthest outboard in the tail light housing (on both left and right sides) was the problem. I found that the problem was with corrosion within the connectors that go directly to the tail light housing. It appears that the ground wire is much larger than the other wires, but the size of the connector is the same. The wire has too much current for the connector to handle. It melts the plastic around it and becomes corroded as a result. If you google "Audi Tt tail light problems" you will see that many other consumers have this issues, with some even reporting fires in their tail lights. I reported the issue to my local Audi dealer as well as Audi corporate. They will not replace the wires, and they want to charge me $90 just to diagnose the issue, and up to $900 to replace the tail lights. This is absurd, since it is a poorly engineered design that results in a very serious fire hazard.

Clock keeps resetting itself and so does the mileage indicator.

13 Electrical System problem of the 2002 Audi TT

Failure Date: 08/11/2010

Audi Tt 2002 dash pod recalled in ireland and britain. Interference and erratic performance with instrument gauges and lights. I am having same problem and vehicle only has 30k miles. Can result in unexpected shut down on highway. Dealer says car computer does not indicate any problems and customer, me, ends up paying for each malfunctioning component as just "normal wear and tear".

14 Electrical System problem of the 2001 Audi TT

Failure Date: 03/21/2010

On our Audi Tt 2001 convertible, the electrical outlets underneath the dashboard caught on fire. The fire department was called and after an investigation, found no known cause of fire. Also, prior to this fire, the tip of the spark plug fell into the engine cylinder block, causing us the owners to pay in full for a new engine head to be replaced. . . . Lots of money (approximately $8000). We replaced it through a well known professional Audi shop auto haus munich in san diego. Hazardous lights needed to be replaced professionally because it interfered with the signal lights. Much money & time spent, and many headaches experienced while owning this beautiful yet troublesome car.

15 Electrical System problem of the 2000 Audi TT

Failure Date: 09/30/2009

The instrument cluster in my Audi Tt is faulty. It does not provide accurate fuel gauge, engine speed, vehicle speed, and engine temperature readings. It does not provide any reliable, accurate information in regards to the operation of the vehicle.

16 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Audi TT

Failure Date: 01/27/2009

I purchased in June, 2008 a brand new Audi Tt roadster from nalley Audi in GA. It has approx. 6000 miles. On January 27, 2009, I drove the car from my office to my daughter's house (about 10) miles, stopping to fill the gas tank. I dropped off my grandson and drove home about 5 miles. I looked at the clock when I arrived home and it was 6:15 p. M. As I was contemplating if I had time to make it to prayer service at my church. I determined I would go and went upstairs to curl my hair and started smelling something electrical burning. I made sure my curling irons were off and unplugged them. I went back downstairs and the smell of an electrical. I checked the first floor of my house and did not find the source of the smell. I looked at the clock and it was 6:30 p. M. So I gathered my purse, phone and keys and opened the door to the garage and let the garage door up. As I was doing so, I realized the source was clearly outside as it was very strong but I still did not realize it was my car on fire as there was no flame. When I opened the driver door, a cloud of black smoke and heat overtook me and I fell backwards as I tried to get away from the car. The smoke was so thick that I could not see in the car. I unlocked the door and re-entered my house to grab the house phone as it was quicker then digging for my cell and it would be hooked to my address. I dialed 911 and exited the house through the front door and waited for the fire department in the middle of my front yard. When the fire department arrived, they discovered the source was a coil of wires that were encased in the middle of the two seats that had melted through the plastic casting and burned up through the gear shift melting the leather from around it, sun visors were melted. The trunk was filled with smoke as I asked them to open it so I could retrieve my computer. Audi investigated and determined not its fault because no fuse was blown and that the source was undetermined external factor.

17 Electrical System problem of the 2002 Audi TT

Failure Date: 10/17/2008

My instrument cluster on my 2002 Audi Tt has several problems. The digital display in the center of the counsel has several burnt out pixels and makes reading outside temperature and time difficult. Also the fuel gauge no longer displays the correct fuel level.

18 Electrical System problem of the 2001 Audi TT

Failure Date: 08/28/2008

Instrument cluster resets date, time. Fuel gauge malfunctions to read empty when full, and reads rpm inaccurately. Began a couple of years ago and not often, now it's a daily problem. On a recent trip I wanted to top the gas tank, but the center isle controls for the gas cap and hatch door failed to work forcing me to continue with the available gas in tank. Once I arrived, both gas cap and latch door opened.

19 Electrical System problem of the 2001 Audi TT

Failure Date: 08/08/2008

My instrument cluster on my low mileage 2001 Audi Tt 6 weeks outside of the closing date of a class action lawsuit. U. S. District court of California northern district case no. C 06 6801 mjj.

21 Electrical System problem of the 2001 Audi TT

Failure Date: 03/16/2008

The fuel gauge on my 2001 Audi Tt quattro no longer works and does not properly indicate the amount of fuel in my tank. This happens whenever the car is operating. In order to replace the instrument cluster I would have to pay over 1000 dollars at the Audi deal. I am aware that many other owners of the same car have the same issue and seems worthy of a recall.

22 Electrical System problem of the 2001 Audi TT

Failure Date: 06/29/2004

All electrical performances shut down. Also, vehicle shut down while operating. Consumer was driving at approximately 55 mph when the vehicle suddenly shut down.

23 Electrical System problem of the 2001 Audi TT

Failure Date: 06/01/2004

I have a 2001 Audi Tt. I have had many problems with the gauges not working. I have taken it in many times and I am not getting anywhere. My local dealer told me that they do not know of any problems with the gauges that is wide spread. I am a member of many Audi owners groups and everyone I know has had to replace the gauges. They are between $600-$900 and I think that if this many people (at least 100) have this problem then it has to be a factory defect of some kind.

24 Electrical System problem of the 2001 Audi TT

Failure Date: 09/01/2003

Purchased the car new in 2001, the airbag light started coming on intimately in 2003 had the cluster replaced in 2004 (15k miles) under warranty, shortly after it was repaired the airbag light came on again intimately for another 2 years until it stayed on permanently. I brought it back to another dealer they reset something and the airbag light went out again for about a year. In 2010 I brought it back to the dealer again for a cluster recall, they replaced the cluster all was fine then about a year late the airbag light came on again. Brought it back to the dealer and was told it was the airbag module. Spent $1500 to have the airbag module replaced ( think this was the issue all along). After having the airbag module replaced the seat belt light no longer comes on. Was told it is the cluster. The car has 37,000 miles on it this will be the 4th cluster in the car. The dealer wants $1500 to replace again with no guarantee. Audi accepts there is a problem and will pay a few hundred towards the repair. I will be responsible for about $1200, I have tried contacting the Audi manager (#248-754-3686) handling the case and my attorneys office has tried contacted them several times and they have refused to return any calls. I am without a seat belt warning indicator. I am concerned that I will have my grandson in the car and not know if his seat belt is properly engaged, or if my airbag is working properly. This has been a constant issue since I bought the car new and have put very low miles on the car, have always garaged it and never drove it in bad weather and the cluster remains an issue going on the 4th one.

25 Electrical System problem of the 2001 Audi TT

Failure Date: 03/14/2003

The engine light illuminated on the dashboard and the vehicle experienced heavy vibration, and forced to pull over. The problem was diagnosed as a faulty coil.

26 Electrical System problem of the 2001 Audi TT

Failure Date: 11/06/2002

Audi Tt instrument cluster shows abnormal temperature reading, when actual temperature is fine (reported through air conditioning diagnostic code 49c). Dealer repaired dead cluster in 2002, and installed a still defective cluster that shows wrong temperature. I later became aware that the new cluster is also faulty. Dealer quotes approx $1000 for repair. Audi corp refuses free repair.
