I have a 2001 Audi Tt. I bought it threw a dealership out of state online. Went and pick it up and was fine but a couple of weeks went by and started having problems with instrument panel no gas gauge speedometer temperature gauge or dash lights. They will go out just riding up the road and does it more since its colder weather so I started looking in to this matter and this is a major problem with Audi and I think they should make this right and plus its a major safety issue to me thank you for your assistance in this matter.

2001 Audi Tt roadster 1. 8t. The tachometer in the instrument cluster does not function, the needle is stuck on zero and does not gauge rpm when vehicle is in use. The Audi dealer in san antonio TX (cavender Audi) states that the entire instrument cluster panel needs to be replaced. . . Total cost 700 dollars for parts and 150 dollars labor. The car had a total of 38,800 miles on the odometer when this problem occurred. Currently it has 39,350 miles.
I have a faulty instrument cluster on my Audi Tt 2001 roaster. This part controls the tachometer, odometer, speedometer, fuel gauge, temperature gauge and all the warning lights for oil pressure, coolant levels, etc. This is one of the most important parts for the safety of the vehicle. This is the second instrument cluster that has had to be replaced in the vehicle. The initial cluster was faulty and displayed inaccurate gas gauge readings, it was replaced in 2002/3. My current instrument cluster is displaying inaccurate temperature readings. I have reviewed information on websites (edmunds care space at edmunds. Com; Audi Tt car club at Audittcca. Com, etc. ), and understand that this is a very common problem. Audi uk recalled this component on the 2001 Audi Tt and have agreed to cover all previous costs of repair. . Read more...
My instrument panel cluster does not work any more.
I've ran out of gas twice while driving due to a faulty gas gauge on the instrument cluster of my 2001 Audi Tt. I had problems with the instrument cluster before and it was replaced under warranty, now it has gone bad again and I'm out of warranty. . . . This seems to be a common problem as there is a "class action lawsuit" pending too, however nothing has been done by Audi or vw to remedy these faulty instrument clusters. . . . Thank you.
My car has had a low oil pressure light coming on for the last three months, and it's occurring with more frequency. The light only comes on when I take my car out of gear and put it in neutral while slowing down or while waiting at a stop light. After taking it to three different Audi dealers, I have had multiple answers as to the problem. Several hundred dollars later, my light still comes on and nothing has been fixed. Even more recently and just to top it off, my instrument panel cluster has blown. So far, it's just the temperature gauge, fuel gauge, led display, and a warning light that triggers one of my headlights to turn off, but from what I've read online, the speedometer is soon to follow. There has been a recall in the uk for this, but Audi USA won't do anything about it. I have spoken with them on the phone and they only refer me to the local Audi dealer, which is just a viscous cycle. I will be very upset when I'm driving and can't tell how fast I'm going. This seems a danger to be on the road. Since the problem costs $1000 to fix, I guess I will just have to drive without a speedometer for a while . . .
Instrument cluster component failure. Center information display missing many pixels making displayed text and images hard to distinguish. Because of this failure, it can be hard to distinguish the difference between certain informational symbols such as a brake problem or a tail light out. I had a symbol come on the display but I could not tell if it displayed because of a problem with my brakes or tail lights as a result of the failure of the center display. This could have cause a safety issue. Rpm tachometer sticks on cold start as well.
The contact owns a 2001 Audi Tt quattro. While driving between 25-30 mph, the contact received four citations on March 19, 2008. The citations stated that she was driving 45 mph in a 35 mph zone and 51 mph in a 35 mph zone. The citations were received within ten minutes of one another. The contact also noticed that the fuel gauge indicator displayed 1/4 tank; however, the vehicle was out of fuel a few miles later. She received a class action letter indicating that the speedometer and fuel gauge were not operating normally and could display inaccurate readings. The dealer and manufacturer stated that the class action suit does not apply to the vehicle since it is beyond the seven year period. The approximate failure mileage was 5,000 and approximate current mileage was 100,000. Updated 6/2/08 updated 05/30/08.
Fuel gauge consistency reads the wrong level of fuel in the gas tank. Left me stranded twice already. This is a very very common malfunction for my model of Audi.
Normal operation of the vehicle, including start up, running vehicle on fairly hot or cold days leads to a failure of the central digital of the display. Furthermore, the analog gauge cluster is not accurate, coolant gauge reads very hot erroneously at all times (though actually coolant temps determined by other means show that vehicle is at normal operating temperatures). Fuel gauge responds erratically, fails to accurately register amount of fuel left. Tachometer readings seem to fluxate occasionally in err.
Instrument cluster is not reading correctly. The gas gauge will read at the half marker when there is a full tank. And the main electronic cluster is faded and it will not display completely.

The gas gauge has not worked properly since the vehicle was new. The entire instrument cluster was repaired by Audi while the vehicle was under warranty and in the shop on 3 other occasions for the same thing. Now the car is out of warranty and Audi will not cove the problem. Audi is covering a like problem out of warranty in the uk, but will not honor out of warranty problems in the us. It is very well know that there is a problem with the fuel gauge in this vehicle which is a serious safety issue.
2001 Audi Tt instrument panel is not showing right speed and gas. Customer states that the instrument panel is reading speed and gas wrong. Customer would like manufacturer to pay for replacement. ** the consumer also stated the esp light illuminated on the vehicle.
The instrument cluster on my 2002 Audi Tt roadster began to fail in August 2007. By the end of the summer, not one number on the panel could be read. . . It was in complete failure. Because of the failure I cannot drive my car at all because I would have no idea of how much gas I had nor would I know at what rate of speed I was traveling. There was a class action lawsuit on this issue which was settled this year and I received notification of it in April 2008. . . Which, at the time of receipt placed my car outside of the six year limitation period. . . Even though the car is a 2002 and the panel failed last year. I am being told that my car will not be repaired by Audi of America unless I pay the $1,300. 00 charge to have it fixed. This is an Audi problem and they are trying to turn it into my problem. This is a very expensive car which is never driven in the snow and is a "garage queen". I can't drive it and now, I can't even sell it. . . Who would want to buy it? it is unsafe to drive and I would not take it onto the highway without the instrument cluster working. I cannot afford to have it repaired, therefore, I have an expensive little car sitting in my garage which cannot even be used. What should I do? updated 06/10/08.
Progressive failure of instrument cluster. Gas gage reading 3/4 of a tank higher than reality. I ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere. Tachometer and speedometer no longer work. Makes it tough to predict turbo lag. Low power before turbo kicks in around 2200 rpm makes it tough to predict acceleration of car from standing start (such as left turn across a busy road). Temperature gage reading higher than actual engine temperature. Unable to determine if engine may truly be overheating.
2000 Audi Tt quarto with malfunctioning instrument cluster customer states that after researching the problem that this is a wide spread problem** the consumer stated that the instrument cluster has been malfunctioning for a while now and the consumer stated that it would cost $1,000 to repair. The consumer stated he contacted the dealer who was supposed to be contacting the dealer and getting back with the consumer but to no avail. The consumer stated he also had problems with a broken radiator hose. The consumer stated would like Audi to provide a full coverage warranty for the instrument cluster at a local dealership. The consumer previously had a tire developed a bubble, the dealer initially stated he must have hit curb, but it was later determined that the tires were defective and ultimately the manufacturer replaced the tires.
1. ) no significant events leading to failure. Parked car outside but I live in southern California, thus no extreme temperatures. 2. ) gauge cluster did not turn on. Cannot see mileage, trip meter, rpm , or speed! 3. )sometimes restarting the car will fix it. Sometimes it takes 10 minutes for the gauges to turn itself on.
The 2001 Audi Tt quattro we own runs out of gas before the gas gauge registers an half tank. The computerized dash components don't work, either.
Car ran out of gas and rolled to stop in mid-traffic - gas gauge read 1/4 tank remaining. Further research found that Audi Tt model year 2001 and later have instrument clusters giving wrong gas content, speedometer and rpm indications. Poses hazard as vehicle may become suddenly inoperable.
The contact owns a 2001 Audi Tt quattro. The contact stated that he has a faulty computer chip in the gauge cluster of his vehicle. The dealer informed him that there was a recall in the european market, but not in the united states. The dealer stated that he would have to pay $2,000 for the repair plus $300 for a diagnostic. The current and failure mileages were 83,000.
There is a very well-documented, widespread problem with the Audi Tt dash panel, one that Audi has not sufficiently addressed. Failures include (1) a false or no vehicle speed indication (2) a false or no engine rotational speed indication (3) a false engine temperature indication (4) a false fuel level (5) complete deactivation of engine (6) improper status of safety features such as airbags, brakes, traction control, etc (7) improper or faulty indication of onboard computer functions and driver information displays. It is a shame that the us has not been able to affect a positive response from Audi regarding a safety recall of this known, chronic problem, whereas other countries, such as the uk, have successfully lobbied for action from Audi in the form of an unconditional safety recall. Having a vehicle with five of the outlined failures of the dashboard, I am filing this complaint and urge NHTSA to investigate what others have documented, not only in NHTSA-filed complaints, but from the plethora of owners who have indicated issues through other online sites.

2001 Audi Tt roadster problems with gauge/instrument cluster* the consumer stated he had no way to monitor his speed, temperature or fuel gauge. The instrument cluster functioned sporadically.
Instrument cluster gauges do not work properly. Fuel is completely off. Center display is nearly unreadable. Vwag will not cover under warranty, even though the uk cluster warranty was extended.
Instrument cluster digital display has faded out and is not displaying top two sections of the digital readout. Tachometer has failed. Failure causes inability to read the warning lights, such as low oil, high temperature, etc. I have purchased an instrument cluster at a cost of $650, and will soon be paying $225 to get it installed. I am frustrated with Audi for not issuing a recall on this unit.
