The contact owed a 2006 BMW 328xi. The contact stated while his son was driving approximately 50 mph on the slick road, the vehicle made a loud boom sound. There were no warning lights on the instrument panel. The driver depressed on the brake pedal and the vehicle skidded into a telephone pole where the front of the vehicle caught on fire. All airbags deployed. The vehicle was destroyed by fire and the origin was unknown. The driver pulled the passenger out while the vehicle was on fire. The passenger sustained a concussion and required to be hospitalized for a few days. The driver did not have injuries. The fire department arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.
