BMW 328 owners have reported 9 problems related to car accelerates on its own (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I pulled into my long narrow driveway (about 100 feet) slowly at about 3 mph. I let the car go by its momentum and lightly pressed on the brake so it could come to a complete stop. When the car approximately about 7 feet from the front of the garage, it accelerated suddenly and smashed through the front door and part of the garage. I put more pressure on the brake, but it kept going and hit the back wall before the engine shut off. The airbags did not go off. I reported the incident to the police and my insurance, and the insurance declared the car was total loss and they towed it away.

The vehicle was going down a hill (straight forward) on a CA city street when the driver shifted from auto to manual gear. Instead of working as expected, the car underwent a sudden acceleration and braking proved ineffective. Through a couple seconds of attempted braking with no response, the car kept on accelerating instead. Finally, after making two turns on the hill, the car spun completely out of control and swerved to the other side of the street where it crashed through five trees and eventually stopped. The driver loss of consciousness and delivered to er. The weather condition was good. The failure mileage was 79,541. Policy report filed.

Pursuant to the national traffic and motor vehicle safety act and this administrative agency duty, I am submitting a complaint against BMW auto maker. We own a 2014 BMW 328i xdrive gt in which my wife, (safe driver), had an accident on 06/26/2018 due to "sudden unintended acceleration" while parking, leaving two (2) family members in the hospital with serious back injuries. While she was parking and at full stop with the brake pedal pressed, the vehicle sudden forcefully accelerated and took off jumping over a 12 inch parking lot barrier wall landing 4 feet down on a four (4) lanes busy road, waters avenue (tampa, FL). The vehicle was taken to the local BMW (reeves, tampa, FL) dealer were we purchased the car brand new and have been servicing the car. The BMW after charging $190. 00, claimed to be unable to diagnose and duplicate the problem and will not acknowledge or admit having these type of problems this BMW 328i series contrary to this agency claims and other disclosed in public media. The dealer did not even change the acceleration sensor for safety uncertain. Furthermore, be aware, this is the second time we experience this vehicle "sudden unintended acceleration" malfunction as in 2016 did it and the vehicle crashed while parking, still in slow motion, onto a handicap sign and a parking lot landscape island (in front if a best buy store). Likewise, at that time the dealer (revees) claimed to be unable to duplicate the problem and the vehicle's electronic check did not showed anomalies. We have pictures, police report, ambulance reports of latest incident and a business recorded the incident on a site security camera, so evidences available upon request. It is a sad day for us to experience BMW not doing anything to respond to our claim and/or at least prevent further safety human and property injuries resulting in tragedies.

This vehicle has experienced two incidents of unintended acceleration. On January 15, 2018 it occurred at freeway speeds (55 mph) and the vehicle accelerated to approximately 95 mph. Forcible application of the brakes slowed the vehicle and the acceleration reverted to normal. The second incident was on January 17, 2018. This occurred on a surface street at approximately 40 mph. The vehicle accelerated again to at least 90 mph, and upon application of brakes, reverted to normal operation. The vehicle has approx 40,000 miles on it. I took this car to kuni BMW in beaverton, oregon. They checked out the car and reported that they could not duplicate the problem.
I believe that unintended acceleration caused my one vehicle accident. I was reversing slowly out of a steep driveway. Once out of the driveway, I put my foot on the brake so that I could switch gear in to drive. When I put my foot on brake, the car accelerated backwards, and I couldn't control it. The brake wouldn't work. The acceleration was so fast, that what stopped me was hitting a horse fence across the street. I was going so fast, that I ended up going airborne, and only damaged the top of the horse fence. My front part of my car then fell forward and broke the tie rod in half. I ended up with whiplash and a concussion, requiring post-concussion syndrome physical therapy for 4 months. I asked BMW for a special investigation into my car to see if it malfunctioned. My car was not allowed to be fixed prior to the investigation and had to be done at a BMW dealer, which it was. Everything was a secret when BMW investigated my car. The BMW dealer service manager wasn't allowed to be told any findings or watch the investigation. BMW sent me a letter afterwards stating that the car didn't malfunction. I have been driving for 33 years without one accident or traffic violation. I had driven that car for 4 years and I know that my foot was on the brake but I was accelerating faster and faster and couldn't stop the car. I have read other reports of unintended acceleration and what is described is exactly what happened to me. I am lucky and thankful that no car or person was behind me, because I could have killed someone. I was only going about 5 miles per hour when I pushed on brake, but unintended acceleration had me going in reverse about 50 miles per hour until I hit horse fence. The brakes didn't work. I have photos of horse fence and broken tie rod but only allowed to upload 5 files.

As I was moving my car from a small parking lot near my home, I was reversing the car and noticed there was a sudden acceleration and the car hit the base of the pole causing minor damage to my rear bumper. Since I felt the impact, I was very cautious and put the car in drive mode to exit the parking lot with very little gas applied, but the car took off suddenly and hit a parked car with a huge impact. It almost totaled the other car and my car was very badly damaged. Initial estimate to repair is around $7,911 by the BMW authorized body shop. I immediately took the car to the dealer next day asking them to check if my car was safe to drive. The dealership said the car has to be inspected by the BMW engineer, and tne dealer can't touch the car because of sudden acceleration issue. I called the BMW customer relationship dept. Right away, and they scheduled an engineer to come and look at my car. One week later, a bwm engineer came to the body shop and downloaded the data, and today I was notified by BMW that the car is safe to drive. I bought this car from a local BMW dealer as certified pre-owned vehicle last year with about 23k miles on it and still has the warranty. I am writing to you because my family doesn't feel comfortable and safe to drive this car. I have seen several complaints on bimmerfest and one on your site for the 2011 BMW 328i, regarding the sudden acceleration. I asked them BMW to replace the car, which they wouldn't do. I requested BMW to send a letter stating that the car is safe to drive along with a report about their findings, since they didn't want to replace my car. Not sure if they will send me one. As a good citizen with good driving record, I am really scared about driving this car which in my opinion is not safe. I am hoping that your department will investigate this matter carefully, and get a better resolution to my issue. Thank you.

When shifting from drive to park vehicle would suddenly accelerate on its own. Can only be stopped by turning off ignition. Brakes would only slow it down, but not stop it. Has happened 4 times, and was an intermittent problem. Been to dealership, and mechanic could not duplicate problem, will not repair it. Manufacturer agreed with dealership, and policy was to return vehicle if not repairable.
