Other Fuel System Pump Problems of BMW 328 - part 1

I have a 2014 328d f31 three weeks ago while turning into a parking spot at a grocery store parking lot at low speed, my 328d shifted to p mid turn, and the engine shut off. Upon trying to restart it, it would crank but not turn over. (thankfully, I was in a parking lot and going at slow speed - and not on the interstate). We had to manually get it shifted into neutral to be able to push it into a parking spot. Upon further inspection, it was determined that the high pressure fuel pump has failed. (thankfully it doesn't appear to be disintegrated as some others have reported). All open recalls have been repaired. This vehicle has been very well maintained, and great efforts have been taken to ensure only quality, fresh diesel has been pumped in the car. BMW has offered an extended warranty for this (not cheap) part. However, it's only up to 10 years or 120,000 miles, and my vehicle is at 128,000. I am incredibly grateful that no one was hurt, injured, or worse in this incident. But given the high frequency of this happening amongst other 328d owners, and the safety implications (many times on the interstate), I would expect that BMW would recall this vehicle and get these parts replaced before anything worse happens. It happened quickly and suddenly with no prior performance warnings, codes, or lights. In fact when running a foxwell schwaben 14020sch scanner, no codes are being returned. An additional safety concern of course is that this problem is not preventable with traditional diagnostics. My google research shows the bosch fuel pump was recalled in other models, but the recall exempted the diesel variants. I can't imagine an item prone to failure, that's not listed on a replacement schedule. There are multiple lawsuits out there on the bosch cp4 fuel pumps. (however cp4. 2 seems to be more reliable than the cp4. 1).

I bought the 2013 BMW 328xi brand new in 2012. Last year, I spent $2,000 replacing the high pressure fuel pump after my car stalled in the middle of driving. When I was going in for a routine inspection, my mechanic informed me that the timing chain needs to be replaced and the cost is very expensive. Upon further research, I found out that this is a prevalent issue with BMW owners, especially with the n20/n26 engine. I even found out that there is a pending class action lawsuit claiming that the timing chain BMW used was knowingly defective! as of now, my car is worth about $10,000 and the cost to fix this issue is almost half the value of the car. I have not gotten the timing chain repaired yet.

Tl-the contact owns a 2014 BMW 328-I. Ther contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle lost acceleration. The contact put the hazards on and pulled over to the shoulder. The vehicle was turned off and then restarted normally. The vehicle was driven to the dealer reeves BMW, 109 e fowler Ave, tampa, FL 36612, ( the failure occurred two more times on the way there ), they determined the fuel pump failed and needed replacement. The vehicle is currently being repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000. Bp.

Car was in motion on a street. Engine stalled. Car wouldn't start. Towed to BMW dealership. Catastrophic high pressure fuel pump failure at approximately 7400 miles. Metal shavings throughout entire fuel system. Injectors, fuel lines, fuel pump, and fuel tank needed to be replaced.

Vehicle cruising at 70mph on the freeway when the car stalled out with no warning. It simply went into neutral and cut the engine, rendering the vehicle hard to control since power steering and braking were not working. The car broke down again without warning on a city surface street with a speed limit of 45mph. Independent mechanic diagnosed that the high pressure fuel pump imploded, sending metal throughout the entire fuel system. Again there was no warning and braking/steering were affected.

While driving on the interstate or over 50 mph the vehicle will not allow me to give it gas and a "drivetrain malfunction" comes on. The car then goes into limp mode and the engine shakes. The vehicle will not allow me to give it gas and before the "drivetrain malfunction" comes on you can feel the gas or fuel pump jerk. Then I am no longer able to give the car gas, limp bode happens, engine shakes, and the car puts itself in neutral. I have to find a way to get in the emergency lane without getting hit and turn the car off for a few minutes to reset the lights. But this has happened on more than one occasion. I have taken it to a body shop twice, still not fixed.

3-times the car's engine was turned off by the computer while we were driving on the freeway and the streets. Car info says "fuel pump, service soon" and then the car won't start for an hour. First time we took it to beverly hills BMW center and they replace the fuel pump. Next day, fuel all over our garage. Took it back for them to secure it better. Next morning we got gas all over the garage again. I had to secure the fuel pump. I'm not confident in the service at BMW centers but I really have a problem with the car turning off while your in the fast line on the freeway. We were almost hit by a truck the third time it stopped.

When car was in motion it sputtered, started losing power, and when I pulled over the engine died and wouldn't restart. Dealer diagnosed it as failure of fuel pump, with BMW required repair to include replacement of entire fuel distribution system at estimated cost of $11,400.

I was driving on a busy highway and the vehicle randomly stalled and lost power. Drivetrain malfunction trouble lights lit up the dash. I was barely able to get out of traffic before coasting to a stop. I had the vehicle towed to BMW south austin and it was diagnosed with a faulty fuel transfer pump, and a faulty fuel tank. Essentially I had run out of fuel with 1/4 tank showing on the gauges. BMW denied my request to repair the vehicle under warranty, even though there is an extended warranty on the "in tank fuel pump". I guess people need to die in traffic when they run out of fuel unsuspectingly for BMW to care or issue a recall.

12/24/2018 fuel pump malfunction warning comes on while driving indication vehicle while shut off each time this happens I am driving on the NJ turnpike forced to pull over before vehicle shuts down and does not start!!! 01/2019 I have had new fuel pump installed and it happened again, 03/2019 fuel pump replaced again and this vehicle has shut down 2 additional times 05/2019 and again while driving on the parkway. Last fuel pump malfunction June 2019 I have not driven vehicle in 3 weeks not sure what to do. Each incidents has been on a major highway where speed limit is 65mph.

11/2016 - car stalled on the interstate and wouldn't restart. Complete power failure (engine, brakes, steering) - mechanic replaced a gas valve. The exact same problem happened twice more. BMW replaced the fuel pump and now wants to replace the control module. All this within 3000 miles. Seems like a major fuel system failure. 04/03/18-104795 miles on the vehicle it was brought in for -blower motor recall was performed due to the fact that yours was inoperable -pcv valve recall -check engine light was on and the cause was the fuel pump. Car has been driven 2766 miles in between the next visit. 09/28/18-107561 miles on the vehicle it was brought in for -a/c service due to the a/c not being cold enough. -sluggish running (cause was the differential pressure sensor) an emissions item that has nothing to do with the fuel pump and the vehicle also needed the (charcoal canister) replaced, also an emissions item. Car has been driven 487 miles 10/23/18-108048 miles on the vehicle it was brought in for -awd/abs/emergency ebv light is on-( this is controlled by the vtg module) I'm not getting a signal from this module. After inspecting what we could of the module that is when the technician found that there was water in the passenger rear floorboard. -fuel pump message on the screen (cause is the ekps module) the module controls what the fuel pump does. If this module is malfunctioning then the fuel pump isn't operating properly resulting in the �fuel pump� message on the screen. It is the same issue, yet they have "fixed" two different parts of the fuel system already. What are the odds that a third, even more expensive part would fail so soon?.

Before any prompts on the navigation screen ever came up, I would often sometimes smell something burning or giving off a hot rubber smell which I addressed as soon I purchased the vehicle from queens auto mall auction, they said it was nothing to worry about if I did not see the check engine light on. While I was driving my BMW 328 xi 2011 the car suddenly lost power and a fuel pump malfunction display prompted on my navigation screen. The car stopped on a bridge in the left lane without me being able to pull over. The car would not start up again at all after several attempts. I waited about 30 minutes and the car started up again. I drove it back home 5 min away and got my vehicle towed to the BMW of manhattan where they say they took care of the problem. Once I picked up the vehicle, I drove for approximately 25-30 minutes before the same exact thing happened again and I was barely able to switch into the right lane so I can pull over and have another tow come and take my car to BMW of manhattan just an hour after I had it serviced. I had the recall for the pcv valve heater replaced at that service so I know the same fire/rubber burning smell can't possibly be from that valve recall. I have seen online many people have the same problem with their 3 series, and I am concerned this may be an underlying issue with all 3 series BMW 2006-2011. In both of these separate instances I was driving and was very scared that I could have gotten into a serious car accident in new york city.

I have fuel leaking from the top of my fuel tank. I have neen advised that it is a fuel tank sending unit or a seal. My fuel pump works as my car is operational. The leak occurs when the gas tank is over half full. This is a safety issue and should be a recall.

My car has stalled twice on the highway and had to be towed for service as it would not start. The error in the system was for the fuel pump. There has been a recall for my same year make and model for this issue related to the fuel pump, but my VIN was not included.

Fuel pump is burning out and liquid isn't passing through the tank properly. The car is overheating anf feels like it's going to start fire.

While proceeding at 50 mph on heavily-traveled 2-lane country road, the engine cut out leaving the car with no propulsion. I was able to coast to the driveway of a local farm and come to a stop safely off the road. My repeated attempts to restart the engine were unsuccessful. I then called for a wrecker which towed the car to the BMW dealership. The dealer subsequently informed me that the fuel pump had failed (repair work was under warranty). Note: I purchased this car new in 2014. After this incident, I performed a google search and found that my year/model BMW had been recalled for a fuel pump issue [NHTSA campaign 15v189000]. I never received that recall notice and to the best of my knowledge, am not aware that the required work was ever done.

I was driving home and car stops running I mean completely stops running cars and truck swerving to keep from hitting me stuck in the middle of the road. As I look up information about BMW recalls I find that a recall has been gives non serval cars like mine in 2015 and BMW won't fix my car unless I pay $1600 for a new fuel pump. C.

2009 328xi BMW first battery goes dead,one month later car stops while driving,BMW said it was fuel pump and hose,they fixed that,while at dealer they said faulty code came up for alternator . All this within 1 month. No signs of lights dim,car not starting,how does this happen all at once and with no warning. Seems there is a bigger issue. Dealer fixed fuel pump. But how does alternator go with no signs.

2009 328 xi BMW with 120k fuel pump just breaks. BMW replaced for free due to all the complaints and recall info,this such be a national recall as someones car can just stop while driving,and this is a safety issue.

Takata recall: just cant believe my car just went dead while driving. There have been issues with the fuel pump but nobody is making people aware of this so it can get fixed. It was really scary . Belt tensioner was replaced from BMW in 2014. Then belt tensioner goes bad again in 2016. Steering super tight ,just replaced power steering pump 10 months ago. .

I was driving my car and it just complete lost power,I called road side assistance and they did some testing. Keep in mind I just got a new battery three months ago,have shown no signs of any power ,start up issues,. I just don't understand how a car with a higher standard just dies. They said it was the fuel pump. Its seemly interesting how many people have had the same issue and BMW should be ashamed with themselves not to recall this issue ,at least address the people who are having the issue. . Fuel pump isn't something that should go at 100k. Very disappointed. The car will not start,I can get a crank but nothing more.

Over the course of three days, while driving my 2010 BMW 328i on a highway at a rate of speed of 65-70 mph, the motor stalled, shut off, died, lost power causing me to have to get to the breakdown lane by forward momentum alone. Very dangerous because the other cars on the road have no idea that my car has no power. After sitting for approximately 15 minutes, I tried starting the car and it started right up and I was able to drive it as though nothing was wrong with it. I called my BMW dealer and am bringing it there tomorrow. He said that the repairs may be covered and that they would know better after looking at the fuel pump because there may be an issue with it. The car only has died while traveling on an interstate highway at a higher rate of speed. Extremely dangerous.

Without any warning, the vehicle lost power suddenly/ abruptly stopped on a busy city street. The vehicle almost get slammed into by other vehicles traveling behind it. This was potentially a cause for a fatal accident. BMW dealership informed that the cause was the sudden failure of the fuel pump. Vehicle is at 39,900 miles, & is cover by BMW certified pre-owned warranty.

While accelerating my 2014 BMW 328d I heard a grinding noise and the car hit the brakes so hard that the seat belt pinned me against the seat and my chest hurt after that for a couple days. I called BMW roadside and the police to assist with traffic since I was in the middle of the road, was late evening and raining also. The police officer tried to move the car but the wheels were locked and was unable to put it in neutral or move. While getting out of car he tells me that I am lucky in his own words "on this weather on the freeway you would've been dead by now". Also the tow truck driver had the same line as the officer and he dragged the car on the bed since the wheels were locked. The car was taken to the dealer and BMW diagnosed it as "fuel pump blew up internally and distributed metal shavings throughout the entire fuel system and through injectors. " 4 injectors need replacement along with the fuel rail, the fuel pump and repairs made tot the entire fuel system including the tank. BMW will cover everything since the car is still under warranty ( I am at 45 k miles)! most traumatizing experience of my 40 years life in a 50k+ car! BMW never warned me of possible fuel pump failure problem with their diesel cars and no car should pin you with the seat belt against the seat unless it's an accident!.

Without any time to pull over, my car has suddenly stopped on a busy highway at speeds of about 45 and 65 not once but twice in about a 3 month span. First time I was stuck in a middle lane going about 45mph and my car completely came to a stop. I needed police to come out and an emergency tow due to location. I took my car to my BMW dealership and was told it was a fuel pump problem and that it had been corrected. Now 3 months later it has happened again on a different part the same busy highway at about 65mph and I had to have a police officer come out and push me into the shoulder because again, by car completely came to a stop with no time to switch lanes and get to a shoulder.

The 3 series BMW's were not included in the recall 16v-746 for fuel leak even though the 5 and 7 series have the same fuel pump. My car is leaking gas which is extremely dangerous to my family and others. I have read countless accounts online of the same issue with other owners of the 3 series. A problem of this magnitude should have been included in the original recall.

I was driving appx 45 mph (speed limit) on a suburban street when the car ran out of power, slowed down to a crawl and became totally limp. Meanwhile, the image on the navi screen stated, "powertrain failure, drive moderate speed" or something like it. I managed to make a very slow left turn onto a cross street b/c I was in shock. I was almost killed by an oncoming car going 45-50 mph. I had the car towed to rusnak BMW; after investigation, they stated it had a "bad fuel pump," and that they have "countless fuel pump problems with BMW diesel cars". The car now has a new fuel pump. I could have died!.

Takata recall, whenever I drive my car for more than 30min it overheats and completely shuts off. The steering wheel locks like it runs out of gas and I can't start the car for at least 20 30 minutes. Thought it was the fuel pump replaced that and 3months later the problem comes back and now I can't run the a/c without it shutting off randomly. I've had this happen on very busy roads blocking traffic because I couldn't do anything. I took my car to BMW dealership and the parts still aren't made is what they said. I want this problem fixed as soon as possible please.

While driving down the interstate on oct. 22, 2017 my vehicle turned off in the middle of the road displaying an error saying "drive train malfunction". The car went from going 60mph to a dead stop. I was stranded in the road while cars were zipping past me at least 60mph. I was in some serious danger if it wasn't for the fast response of the tow truck to get me out of there (the police were called as well to do traffic control but the tow truck showed up before they even got there). The vehicle was towed to a BMW dealer. They ran some tests and told me it was a fuel pump problem. They said the fuel pump broke internally and distributed metal shavings throughout my entire fuel system and through my injectors. All 4 injectors need replaced along with the fuel rail and the fuel pump and repairs made tot the entire fuel system. My car is only at 66k miles. I did some research to see if this problem was recalled because this is a very unsafe problem to have. After looking, I saw that a recall was sent out for all BMW models except for the 328d(diesel). Why is that? how do you claim something is unsafe on a car using the same parts that just got recalled but excluded the diesel model. I have read something stating there was not enough complaint towards the diesel model but the 328d was not produced nearly as much as say the 328i, so obviously it will have fewer complaints. I can see right now 5 pages of complaints about the same safety issue I am having that says otherwise. Now I am paying upwards of $16,000 dollars due to a safety issue. This doesn't seem ethically correct on anyone's end. How is there no resolution to this problem? we are going to let people come to a complete stop on the interstate an risk a major accident. I can't believe this has slipped through the cracks when all other models were recalled for the exact same problem!!.

The contact owns a 2011 BMW 328i. While driving approximately 75 mph, the vehicle began to decelerate and the fuel pump malfunction message illuminated until the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.

High pressure fuel pump failed causing catastrophic damage to entire fuel system, requiring replacement of entire fuel system including fuel pumps, fuel lines, tank etc. Stall occurred on busy street which was a near death experience that could have resulted in accident / injury / death. Most terrifying experience of my life. Took car to crevier BMW and dealer stated that there was nothing I could have done to prevent the incident. 2014 2 series, 3 series, and 4 series all have been recalled for high pressure fuel pump failure. The diesel model appears to be the only one not covered in the recall and clearly is defective.
