36 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2011 BMW 328

Failure Date: 09/04/2017

Hi I have a BMW 2011 328xi, recently I was driving the car on the freeway when the car completely shut down on me and literally left me 10 secs to get on the shoulder. Mind you this is busy traffic hour coming back from chicago. I replaced the fuel pump last year, and BMW takes no owner ship of the problem. I called the customer service and also asked them to diagnose it , but they keep telling me OH we cannot detect it. This is very frustrating as this is my wifes car and I would not want anything happening to her if the car randomly stops in the middle of the free way.

38 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2014 BMW 328

Failure Date: 07/10/2017

The contact owns a 2014 BMW 328d. While driving 50 mph and slowing down to make a turn, the vehicle suddenly lost all power and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to steve thomas BMW inc (411 e daily dr, camarillo, CA 93010 (805) 482-8878) where it was diagnosed that the high pressure fuel pump failed and released metal shavings into the fuel system and engine. The fuel system needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact researched online and found NHTSA campaign number: 15v189000 (fuel system, gasoline), but the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

39 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2014 BMW 328

Failure Date: 06/24/2017

2 of 4 injectors have failed at or before 40000 miles I think the problem is the fuel pump, they have been recalled in the gas models check eng. Light came on fuel mileage droped by 35% did not drive anymore till injector was replaced.

40 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2014 BMW 328

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

Going about 60mph, my car completely loses power and shuts down. Power train malfunction loss of power flash on the screen. Ive had the car for 20 days, and at 52000 miles. 2000 over my warranty. BMW is auotibg ne $5,000 to fix the high pressure fuel pump and system, fuel rail sensor, and fuel rail pressure valve which all ultimately work together. But BMW has already recalled all other 2014 328 models for the exact same fuel pump problems im having except the 328d model was the only one left out????! BMW makes very few of these models to begin with, so naturally there arent going to ve as many complaints with the 328d if there are fewer produced. Its common sense. Looking through the complaints on safecar. Gov 98% of the complaints on the car ultimately come to some sort of fuel system failure causing loss of power and total shut down. At 60 mph and 2 babies in my back seat it was more than scary. Im disgusted with BMW leaving out and not recalling the 328d when they did all the others. I mean what does it take to get some answers around here on this when there are multiple upon multiple complaints?? I mean I got on my phone immediately and diagnosed the problem before sos even came on my speakers just off of the terrible reviews and complaints people are saying off the internet alone! the BMW service center also told me all of that exact year and model that they have had in there lately have been due to the same issue!! this is a cost I cannot even afford at the moment, especially for a vehicle 2000 miles out of warranty. And is basically a brand new car and to already be faulty?? I'm afraid to even drive it again once it does get fixed, being that they are replacing the parts that just failed!! with the exact same parts?!!! what to just fail again, and take the chance of next time on a busy road when it shuts down, actually having a collison with a vehicle instead?!.

41 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 BMW 328

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

While driving in the passing lane on us 101 at a busy time with many trucks approaching the cuesta grade, my fuel pump failed. It was extremely dangerous trying to drift a dead car to the shoulder while avoiding collisions. Six (6) months later, the fuel pump controller failed under almost identical highway conditions at a spot about 10 miles south of the first failure. The controller failure yields the same results as the pump failure. Meaning, the car engine stopped and I had to drift to the side of the road. Almost was hit by semis in both cases.

42 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 BMW 328

Failure Date: 05/18/2017

I was driving west down route 66 in virginia. Car had stalled 5 times in a 60 mile trip stating with a message fuel pump failure continued driving is possible. It left me with no power steering or brakes. The vehicle will restart after a 5 minute cool down period and continued driving is then possible. This has been happening with this vehicle since 70k miles.

43 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 BMW 328

Failure Date: 05/05/2017

The contact owns a 2009 BMW 328i. While driving approximately 75 mph, the fuel pump indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled and shut off. The vehicle was coasted to the side of the road. The contact waited for a while in the presence of a police officer, who was about to call for a tow truck when the vehicle restarted. The contact started to drive away, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA to file a complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

44 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2013 BMW 328

Failure Date: 04/25/2017

Traveling at 65mph on a state highway, the vehicle experienced an abrupt loss of power, decelerated to 25mph, and narrowly avoided rear-end collision. Dealership diagnosis was a defective high-pressure fuel pump.

45 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2012 BMW 328

Failure Date: 04/23/2017

My husband and I were driving home from la to nevada. On the freeway between barstow and baker, the car suddenly stopped on the left side of the freeway. Warning light appeared but disappeared so fast that we did not get a chance to read what it was saying, only the last part which I think said engine failure. It did not give us a chance to look for a safer place to stop. From driving at 75 mph, my husband was able to drive it to a nearby left shoulder, which was very narrow that incoming cars started to honk because we were not really parked inside the space. I had to call our insurance for tow service while cars were driving 75-80 mph. After an hour, the tow truck came but could not hook us up because of the position we were in and cars coming in so fast. The tow truck had to call the California highway patrol for help. So we were left again (tow truck had to go back to wait for the chp). This was a very scary situation (we had to leave the car to avoid being hit by the fast, incoming vehicles). We were lucky that we were not hit but it was a close call. Chp came and the tow truck brought us home. The dealer was closed because it was a Sunday. I had to call another tow company on Monday to bring it to the dealer. The dealer said it did not have communication with the fuel pump module which was different from what the warning indication showed. (but as I mentioned earlier, it was a short notice that I think it said "engine failure"). We had the impression that Bmws are supposed to give the driver enough warning but in this case, it did not happen. We are afraid to drive for more than 300 or less miles because it might stop again in the middle of the freeway. That is an accident we do not want to be in.

46 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2014 BMW 328

Failure Date: 04/20/2017

At 55k miles in April 2017, in fast lane of freeway, drive-train malfunction message displayed with service engine lights. Car lost power as I was fortunately able to change multiple lanes to shoulder as car lost complete power. BMW sos did not function. It took 3 tow drivers and 3 hours to manually override system to get car in neutral to safely put on truck. BMW advised they would have to jack car and remove transmission panel to manually put in 'drive' which was not an option on the narrow shoulder of I-10 in CA. Diagnostics revealed high pressure fuel pump failed and 'exploded' sending metal particles through entire fuel system. Dealer advised over $10k in parts however BMW covered under the 'CA emissions warranty. ' entire fuel system replaced (tank, lines, injectors and pump). Unsure if it is related to the ultimate failure of the pump but all injectors failed and replaced in 2016. 42,162 mi / September 8, 2016 engine light -faulty cyl 3fuel injector fault code 24bd00 replaced #3 44,495 mi / October 13, 2016 engine light-fault code 24c000 - replaced injectors 1 and 2 & 4.

47 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2013 BMW 328

Failure Date: 04/20/2017

High pressure fuel pump failure caused car to cease operating. Car shut down completely while in motion. I was driving through a parking structure at the time. Ultimately, the car was towed to a dealer for repair.

48 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 BMW 328

Failure Date: 04/12/2017

Takata recall: the car while being driven will just stall all power is lost, and then after about 30 minutes it will start back up. It is hard to have it repaired because it is not displaying the issue when the mechanic looks at it. But is shows an errors code of fuel pump over heating. I have had all several repairs done and nothing helps. I can't just keep dumping money in to see if this might eliminate the issue. I see this has been a problem with a number of BMW models. I can not safely drive the car or sell it, it could cause a horrific auto accident. I believe it is an issue involving some part of the fuel pump system. I have seen recalls for some BMW models with these issue but not mine. I have had it in the shop 5 times since April.

49 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2010 BMW 328

Failure Date: 08/22/2016

I was driving and the vehicle at approximately 20mph on a city street when it just stalled out and dash lights went out and back on. I have only 66000 miles on the car. Repair shop is saying fuel pump is seized up and needs to be replaced which may be related to this recall NHTSA campaign number: 13v044000. I was never notified of any recall. I purchased this car used from BMW in February of 2013. When I run the VIN number no recall comes up.

50 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2015 BMW 328

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

While in motion on an interstate the car suddenly started to sputter and lose momentum. At the same time, a warning alerted us to a "drive train malfunction". Luckily, we were in the lane closest to the side of the road and we were able to limp off the road and out of traffic. The car was towed to the nearest BMW dealer in las vegas where the problem was determined to be a failed high pressure fuel pump. The car has less than 17,000 miles. After some research, we found that BMW has a history of fuel pump recalls although none for our model year. This incident was quite dangerous considering the car suddenly being inoperable at a high rate of speed on the interstate. Were we not in the right hand lane, the incident could have been deadly.

51 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 BMW 328

Failure Date: 05/05/2016

Driving along at 80 mph on the expressway in rush hour traffic, heading into a curve. Cruise control was activated, service engine light came on, and car shutoff. Was able to activate hazards and maneuver between the car and semi next to me to get to right shoulder. (ditch on left side) once safely off the side of the road tried to restart and car cranked but did not start. Just had fuel pump replaced 6 weeks ago for same cranking, but not starting behavior. BMW has confirmed the new hpfp they put in 6 weeks ago failed.

52 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 BMW 328

Failure Date: 02/02/2016

53 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 BMW 328

Failure Date: 01/02/2016

Attention: BMW customer relations on, Saturday, 01/02/2016, at approximately 6:30pm my wife and I were driving on the fort hamilton pkwy in brooklyn, NY in my BMW 328i convertible. While driving at 55 miles per hour my car suddenly stop completely in the middle to traffic. In order to exit off the highway safely, I allowed the car to roll to reduce speed then use the hand brake it to stop the car completely at the nearest exit, ext # 5. After exiting I called the towing company. It appeared that this incident was the result a fuel pump failure on my 2008 BMW 328xi which according to the mechanic burnt the control module which caused the engine to shut down completely. Fuel tank failure is a hazardous condition and given the fact that a fuel pump failure results in an immediate loss of engine power, power steering, and power brakes and a potential design flaw. Due to this fuel tank failure my wife and I live were placed in danger. I called BMW customer relations. I informed them of what had happened and I expressed my concern for the safety of my wife and my life and explained the cause of the problem. The representative I spoke to today, 01/07/15, informed me that I should¿ve gotten a warning light on the dash board and stated she could not give me any additional information unless the car was present. I informed her that at the time the car broke down their dealership was closed and I was forced to have it towed to g & j service auto repair shop located at 198 28th street, new york, NY 11232. She stated that there was nothing further she could do or assistance she could give without the car being present. A fuel pump is an integral part of any car. Given the responsibility of literally pumping a vehicle¿s fuel from its tank to the engine, a malfunctioning fuel pump will always lead to a total disaster. Driver's need to be aware of this common problem.

54 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 BMW 328

Failure Date: 12/11/2015

My car was in motion and it stalled in middle of freeway without any warning ! it was the fuel pump that had failed ! BMW already has recalled many models for this same issue. Why put thousands of people's lives in danger and not recall the 2008 328i also when they are already aware of this fuel pump failure ?.

55 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 BMW 328

Failure Date: 11/12/2015

While driving on the hiway, the engine will shake, car will rev, check engine light comes on, then engine dies. Car loses power and if I'm lucky then I can pull over to the side. After some researching, some series have had a recall on fuel pump failure. Please review if the 328xi can be included in the recall.

59 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 BMW 328

Failure Date: 07/27/2015

The vehicle was parked but still running. An error message "fuel pump failure" popped up on screen and the "check engine light" turned on; the car turned off. The car has not been able to restart. It should be noted that I took the car in for service less than two weeks prior.

60 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2011 BMW 328

Failure Date: 07/09/2015

Today I was almost killed, and caused many other motorist a great deal of panic. Driving in the left lane at about 65-70 mph my 2011 328xi suddenly started to loose power. As I attempted to get across five lanes to the shoulder, I was nearly hit numerous times as drivers around me had brake hard or make rapid moves around me. This is the second time in about three weeks that this occurred. I had my fuel pump replaced under warranty at plaza motors. Today my car was towed there again and I am assuming it is the same problem.

61 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 BMW 328

Failure Date: 05/10/2015

I purchased the car from an independent dealer with somewhere around 60k or 65k miles it now has around 80k miles and since the car has been purchased it has had one problem after the next. The electrical for the windows, mirrors, door locks, gps system, head lights were not working properly. I received a fault warning that the outside running lights or headlights were not operating properly. I have noticed the check engine light on and took it to have it looked at which I was told obd code reads misfire #2 ignition coil. I had the parts replaced and codes cleared and still the light came back on reading the same fault code had it checked again and was told it is a new part and it has been replaced and he cannot figure why it would come back the same thing. The only explanation he had for me is there is an electrical problem or there is something wrong with the obd computer. Since then the car has had trouble cranking, stutters on take off, stalls at stop lights, I have had a loss of power immediately while on getting on the free way and the car said reduced engine power shut down and would not let me get over speeds of 20. I have smelt fuel when the ac was turned on. Has been numerous things one after the other. I was looking at numerous recalls for the electrical, the fuel pump, the lights, and now the air bags . And seat belt tensioners. I would like to find out if the car was ever brought in to be fixed from the recalls, or if the recalls expire. Cause I have not owned vehicle very long.

62 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2014 BMW 328

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

I was driving along with my twin 6 year old daughters in my 4 month old 2014 BMW 328 drive m sport when all of a sudden the car stalled with very little to no warning. The car was not able to start. Luckily we were in a parking lot when this happened. Had I been driving on the highway it could have been a much worse situation. How does a brand new vehicle have this problem. Dealer said they think it is a fuel pump failure. A fuel pump failure on a 2014 vehicle received in August of 2014?.

63 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2010 BMW 328

Failure Date: 09/22/2014

Tl-the contact owns a 2010 BMW 328xi. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the r & r battery, the computer registry battery, and the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The contact was aware of NHTSA campaign number: 13v044000 (electrical system) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,242. Pam.

64 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2011 BMW 328

Failure Date: 09/22/2014

While driving along at approximately 35mph, my 2011 328i shut off. Due to my given relatively low speed and location (back road) I was able to pull the car safely to the shoulder. Once stopped, I attempted to start the engine. The car would start. Subsequently, the car was towed to the nearest BMW service facility. The BMW repair technician advised an internal fuel link cracked, thus the car had effectively run out of gas. The entire fuel tank and pump had to be replaced. A simple google search for "2011 BMW 328i swollen fuel pump" reveals others have had this issue as well. This is a serious safety concern as the car could have shut off and failed at any time. I could have been travelling at 65mph on the interstate, which may have caused an accident. I want to know if the replacement fuel tank and pump that BMW installed in my car address what is clearly an engineering and design fault, or am I at risk of this happening in the future as well? I've contacted BMW USA but have not received a response as of this submission.

65 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 BMW 328

Failure Date: 09/05/2014

Purchased the car used appx 4 months ago with just under 25k miles. Last week while driving in traffic appx 45 - 50 mph the car started to skip and lose forward power. While waiting for a tow truck the car just lost all electrical power as well. I could hear relays clicking but nothing worked. At the shop (non-BMW) to be evaluated I had to purchase a new battery (this replaced the original). Final evaluation was that the fuel pump needed to be replaced which I have now paid for out of pocket. I am afraid that there is some electrical issue lurking as well, but so far the car is driving well. Since I purchased the car used I was not aware of any recalls but now I have searched by VIN and found the recall on the battery cable and have that scheduled. 29,520 miles is too soon to need a fuel pump replacement!.

66 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 BMW 328

Failure Date: 07/25/2014

I have a complaint/situation with my 2007 BMW 328ix sedan. BMW refuses to repair at their cost a significant life safety fuel problem. On August 1st, 2014 while driving along a paved street in pullman washington, the car’s engine abruptly shut down without warning. I was barely able to get the vehicle off the road. I had the vehicle towed to camp BMW in spokane washington for examination and repair. The following Monday I received a call from the service department and was told the fuel pump went out and the repair would cost about $700 and would be repaired that day. Shortly thereafter I received a call from the service rep who said they discovered the problem to be worse than expected. The fuel pump has a draw tube that draws fuel to the fuel pump and I was told it fell off and they were trying unsuccessfully to fish it out of the fuel tank - and that the vehicle would not be ready that day. I started and internet search and found this is happening to other BMW’s of approximately the same age/model. What was alarming was that comments I was seeing indicated that the draw tube that fell off in other BMW’s had done so because the fuel grade required for BMW’s was corrosive to the draw tube and the fuel ate away at the tubes until they fell off with the same result of immediate engine shut down. Indications from others with this problem indicated that dealerships told them the only solution was to replace the fuel pump, tank and draw tube for upwards of $3,000. A replacement tank and fuel tank will have the same problem in another 7 years or less and it's a very expensive repair not to mention a life safety issue. My service rep contacted BMW about this issue and BMW told him they would credit my repairs for the sum of $500 bring my cost for the repairs in excess of $1,900.

67 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 BMW 328

Failure Date: 06/30/2014

The engine shut down while driving in traffic. Only after disengaging the key and waiting about 30 minutes, the vehicle can start up again. If the problem is not addressed, this event will happen within about a day to a week. I drove the vehicle daily on my commute to work. This problem has always occurred on my return trip in the afternoon. The error codes that showed up were: a generic code for the fuel pump, fuel module control voltage too high, and fuel module control current too low. After two trips to weatherford BMW, the problem was tentatively solved. On my first visit, they misdiagnosed the problem to be that the fuel module control voltage was out of calibration. They supposedly recalibrated it, test drove it, and solved the problem. They charged me the $210 diagnostic fee because they claimed this was not a warranty issue. However, the same problem occurred the next day on my afternoon commute. After bringing my car back to them. They diagnosed the problem to be a faulty fuel pump control module (ekps module). The repair was covered under the sulev warranty for BMW vehicles with the n51 engine. They did not charge me this time, but they refused to credit the charge on my first visit, saying that they would have had to recalibrate the voltage anyway. I contended that the faulty module caused the voltage to be out of calibration and that a functional replacement module would have brought the voltage back within specification, and that if they had just replaced the module on my first visit that they would not have had to recalibrate the voltage. However, weatherford BMW insisted on not refunding the charge for the first visit, and I have filed a claim with my credit card company to dispute the charge.

68 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 BMW 328

Failure Date: 05/23/2014

As I was driving my car normally my car just turned off on me while going 50. Its telling me on the screen its the fuel pump.

69 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 BMW 328

Failure Date: 11/14/2013

My vehicle suddenly stopped in the roadway at approximately 10:30pm. I was unable to restart the car and vehicle had to be towed. It was later found that the fuel pump failed. No indication as to why the pump failed.

70 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 BMW 328

Failure Date: 04/26/2013

While driving, attempting to pass a vehicle, I press the accelerator and the pedal had no response and the rpms dropped. After trying to accelerate, the engine dies and I drift to the side of the road attempting to Dodge traffic as the car's gas pedal is not responding. Upon pulling over safely, nearly hitting cars along the way I come to stop on the side of the road. The car then no longer starts. Cranking can be heard but engine does not turn over or start. Had it repaired, the reason is a fuel pump failure, fuel pump module failure, and blown fuse on fuel pump. Car is out of warranty and cost to repair is $1,800 and a risk to my safety.
