Passenger restraint system malfunction for the front passenger seat. This may not trigger the airbag for a passenger sitting in the front if a collision occurs and can seriously injure someone. This problem appears to be very common with BMW models within this timeframe. All over car forums and youtube videos, some videos with over 100k views per video. I am not sure how BMW has not recalled this safety issue as it seems to linger throughout many of their models for many years. As soon as the malfuction occured\, the warning sign and lamp lights did flash on.

Unknown/ my car came up with an engine code . Trouble accelerating, tends to runs hot ( drive train malfunction.
Quote: report receipt date: Nov 12, 2013 NHTSA campaign number: 13v564000 component(s): air bags potential number of units affected: 76,565 manufacturer: BMW of north America, llc the problem: the front passenger seat occupant detection mat that determines if and how the passenger frontal air bag should deploy in a crash may fatigue and develop cracks which could lead to a system failure. Should the system fail, in the event of a crash, the front passenger air bag would be deactivated, increasing the risk of personal injury. Repair: BMW will notify owners with an interim notification letter in January 2014 since parts are not currently available. When parts are available, anticipated to be in March 2014, BMW will send a second letter and dealers will repair the occupant detection mat to eliminate the possibility that it may crack, free of charge. Additionally, owners of model year 2006-2007 3 series with standard seats, 5 series with comfort seats, and z4 models, will receive an extended warranty on their front passenger seat occupant detection mat. This is reproducible with the front passenger seat. The seatbelt light and airbag light turn on when a passenger is present. This car is unsafe for anyone to be seated in the front passenger seat even when buckled as the red seatbelt and red airbag turn on and stay on until the passenger unbuckles and exits this vehicle.

Front seat passenger side seatbelt warning indicator activates when no person is in passenger seat. Airbag warning light illuminates even when there is a passenger in the seat. I see numerous complaints about the same/similar issues in your data base, but seemingly no resolution or recall. My car is a convertible. I note from other complaints on your website that a related recall was initiated for my year make model but it did not apply to convertible version of this model. That is irresponsible and unacceptable.
The the oc3 mat on the passanger car just showed up faulty which causes the air bag light to also come on. I have seen a lot of others posting they are having the same issue. Can you help me find out if this has already been recalled but not replaced on my car or if it hasn't even been recalled yet this is a safety issue. Because the airbags will not function if the oc3 mat is not functioning properly. There wasn't anyone in the seat and the car had not been in an accident when the lights for the seat and airbags came on I took it in for a diagnostic and they said it was the passenger oc3 mat . I have read some of the same modle had already had recalls just trying to find out if this was one that should have been because the rep at the dealer ship said this was the first one he's ever seen go bad on any car since he's been there. The big problem I'm having is the warranty I bought with the car won't cover this repair either and I'm a disabled veteran so I can't afford it at this moment.

Passenger restraint system malfunction alert when car is turned on. Air bag and passenger seatbelt warning lights are on. Passenger seat belt light will never turn off even with no passengers in the car. Air bags for passenger are off when there is a passenger in the car causing a safety concern. BMW wants $1000 to diagnose what the issue is for the airbag light only but not to fix it or check the seat belt light. Already paid them $100 just to tell me exactly what the message said on the car screen. Seeing the same issue all over the internet with flaws in the passenger restraint system for this model and similar models but no fix. Found an extended warranty but does not list the e92 model, all other models are listed.
I have the seatbelt and airbag light illuminated on my car for the passenger. I have researched this issue and it seems to be a common problem on Bmws. It was part of a recall for the 2006 model but nothing past that year. Apparently, it is the sensor that is in the passenger seat that has broken. So the airbag can't sense whether or not a person is occupying that seat.

I had my passenger in the car driving 30mm and then I got a “restraint system warning ?? “ illuminating the seatbelt light and seatbelt with airbag light. This is a safety concern as it is still on without a passenger. This affects the passenger airbag so in the case of fatality this would fall on BMW na for neglecting to fix this issue. The car was fine before and this came out of no where.
In approximately 2014 the passenger seatbelt sensor randomly started dinging while driving and the seat was not occupied. I solved the issue by clipping the seat belt. This issue continued randomly for years and was always solved by clipping the seatbelt. Just this week may 2022, I had a passenger who while getting into the car once the seat belt was disengaged, the sensor immediatly started ding and would not stop and the "service engine soon" dashboard light came on simultaneously. The service light stayed on throughout the journey and has not turned off. The recall for a faulty seat mat does not extend beyond 2008 when clearly, the seat mat continues to have issues beyond that year. I rarely have a passenger and my 2011 has ~43k miles. This should be a manufacturer-funded repair as it is clearly a defect in the product.
Passenger restraint system malfunction. My vehicle as well as thousands of others have the chronic and unsafe issue of the passenger occupancy sensor malfunctioning. In order to remove warning on dash it’s either a $2,000 repair, or a $40 bypass which basically places the seat as constantly occupied, sticking the passenger airbag in the ‘on’ position. Vehicle is available for inspection. With this malfunction, any person that sits in the passenger front seat is at risk of injury or death in the event of a collision. Malfunction has been confirmed by both a dealer and an independent service center. Vehicle was inspected by the dealer, but no police or insurance company. Vehicle was purchased with the malfunction and the warning lights have been on for several years. With the massive number of vehicles of this make with a range of different mileage, with this issue, a recall is not only needed but warranted and should be mandated with this being a major safety issue.

My vehicle's passenger restraint system has failed affecting the airbag's deployment, seat belt tensioners, and other safety components. The car currently has warnings on the dashboard in the form of lights and as warning messages in the infotainment system. Lights/warnings appeared randomly while driving qith no prior symptoms. This fault puts the safety of any passengers in my vehicle in jeopardy in the event of a collision. Car is available for inspection at anytime to confirm faults.

Code is coming up for passenger seat occupancy sensor which possibly affects airbag deployment in the event of a collision. It has been noted that the passenger seat occupancy sensor has been a part of prior BMW for 2008 and earlier.
Sensor warning states passenger airbag and passenger seatbelt is not on.
When front passenger is seated, light indicates passenger seat air bags are turned off! even with adults seated. Maintenance stated likely seat sensor faulty. Frustrated to see this is a known problem for this vehicle that was repaired for only one year of the 3 years affected. How many people must die first? happens stopped and in motion.

Over the course of the last 2 months I get an oc3 passenger seat mat error. I noticed that there is an extended warranty for this but my car isn't covered.
The front passenger air bag seat occupancy sensor (oc3) mat has failed in my car. BMW extended the warranty on the e90 sedan and e91 wagon version of the 2007 328i but not the e93 convertible (which I have) the seat components are identical on all 3 model versions of that year. Why is the safety of e93 passengers less important than the passengers in the e90 and e91 when they share the same sensor? repair cost is $1,200 for a sensor BMW knows will fail. I want the 2007 e93 to be included in the extended warranty si b01 09 14.
The passenger airbag light in my dashboard is constantly on. The car thinks that a small child is sitting on the seat and disengages the airbag. So now the airbag is is completely disengaged even when someone is sitting in the passenger seat. I've taken my vehicle to BMW dealership and they checked my VIN and said it's not part of the recall and want to charge me $2000 for the repair. I believe my seat sensor is the same one that is being recalled but not enough owners with the same vehicle have filed a formal complaint with NHTSA. The two recalls that the NHTSA has recalled are 17v-428 and 17v-605. Why are those models the only one being recalled when there's definite malfunction with the oc3 airbag seat sensor? my car is the e93 model which is the convertible model, I believe that because this model was produced less than the 4 door sedan and that most ppl with convertibles don't have a passenger sitting in the passenger seat. I have a daughter that sits in the passenger seat everyday and I believe that is why it malfunctioned. My car is a 2008 e93 328i. I believe the same airbag passenger mat seat sensor is the same one BMW has recalled for their 2006 and 2007 e90 and e91 models as well as the 2006-2010 x3 models that are being recalled. Please include the 2008 e93 models as these are the same airbag sensors that need to be recalled.
When you are driving or a passenger sits in the passenger seat of the car says airbag system malfunction I took it to the dealer and they told me it was the passenger seat occupancy sensor which is going to be $800 to fix this is a known problem by BMW that they are well aware of multiple owners are having the same problem this is not covered under the warranty in my vehicle is out of warranty.

The seat air bag sensor mat has failed the airbag light stays on. The 2006 to 2008 models were recalled for this exact problem but not the 2009. Thos is a serious safety issue because the air bag will not deploy on the passenger side with a faulty sensor. Contacted BMW will not repair unless you pay full price. This is a joke because the repair is 1500 dollars or more, the car only has 77000 miles and has been well taken care of. A recall should be issued because this a serious and common problem which is very expensive to repair and is a horrible design.
Passenger seat throwing a code that says "passenger restraint system malfunction".
Takata recall-I took my car in for the airbag recall and the BMW of south atlanta repaired the driver seat-I think. When I left the passenger airbag off light was on and I asked about it the tech said if you have an accident you don't want to schrapnel to hit the passenger. From then on the seat belt sign stayed on even when someone was in the passenger seat with their seat belt on. I took my car back in last week for the warning light and was told it is a seat sensor and would cost $1,400. 00. Does this have anything to do with the airbag recall? if this is a safety issue and is a faulty part with BMW then why aren't they recalling and repairing?.
Use of the right front (rf) passenger seat would cause an air bag and seat belt malfunction indicator light. The lights would go out after a number of ignition cycles if there was no rf passenger, but would reappear after a passenger used the seat. The vehicle was taken to a BMW dealer on 10/12/18 and they found that the "oc3 mat" was faulty and they recommended that it be replaced and programmed. This is a similar issue to two other BMW recalls (17v-428 and 13v-564) related to the front passenger air bag seat occupancy sensor mat. This vehicle is a 2008 BMW e90 3-series with sport seats but is not included in either recall.
Passenger side front seat caught fire.
My passenger airbag sensor light for the seat keeps going on I've had this reset twice and it just keeps coming back on and now it does not go off . I was told there was a recall on this about 4 years ago it obviously wasn't fixed. . I was driving this last time when the light came on.
Passenger front seat occupancy mat/sensor failed, causing air bags to turn on/off, and trigger false positives and false negatives for minimum weight occupancy, thereby triggering seat belt alarm, and disabling/enabling air bags incorrectly. This was a recall in the same car, model year 2006. I would like my feedback on this subject to help initiate the same recall for the 2011 model year.
Passenger seat occupancy failure malfunction due to the wiring . Cost over $1000.
Seat sensor malfunctioning showing no passenger when passenger is seated. This may prevent seat belts from functioning and air bag deploying in the event of an accident and increasing injuries.
The vehicle brings up a warning light on the dash indicating that the passenger airbag is disabled due to seat occupancy, even though I have a passenger sitting in the passenger seat. This happens at all times. This is a safety concern because in the case of an accident, the car would not deploy the passenger airbag.
Passenger seat mat failed turning off passenger side airbags for a car manufactured in fall 2007 in germany. BMW don't want to take ownership of the problem despite this being a safety issue and models prior to this cut-off date having already been recalled for the exact same problem. The passenger seat is rarely used and the car, despite being 9 years old, has only done 39,000 miles. This is a dangerous condition if the airbag is truly turned off though no codes indicate this is the case. Don't know what to believe.
Tl the contact owns a 2008 BMW 328i. While the vehicle was stationary and while driving various speeds, the air bag indicator illuminated without warning. Bill pearce motors (11555 south virginia street, reno, nevada 89511, (775) 826-2100) was made aware of the failure and performed a diagnostic test. The dealer stated that the sensor under the front passenger seat needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.
The contact owns a 2007 BMW 328xi. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was constantly illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The contact was informed that the front passenger seat wiring harness and seat occupant detection mat needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 13v564000 (air bags). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.
The seat is always making a noise that I have to put the seat belt for the passenger side even though there is no one beside me and since 2014 I have a problem with the time chain I was waiting for a recall that BMW north America and no one called me.
Vehicle equipped with key activated memory seats. Was using same key fob as always when driver seat began to move by itself into various positions, all while at turnpike speed. When it finally stopped, seat was returned to prior position by depressing memory button, but began to move again on its own shortly afterwards. This issue has continued now for several weeks even just driving around town. There are no open recalls or service bulletins, but is a known issue if you go to the online forums. This problem presents a clear and present danger and needs to be addressed immediately!.
Passenger seat sensor failed (code 93c3), disabling potential airbag deployment. Apparently this particular VIN is not included in the current recall for this vehicle. Please expand this recall. BMW has refused to fix the problem under the recall, so we paid nearly $1,200 to replace the faulty oc3 mat.
Person kneeled on passenger seat and the seat restaint warning light came on. This part is being replaced under warrenty for some 2007 BMW's but not my VIN.
