BMW 335 owners have reported 60 problems related to other fuel system (under the other fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of BMW 335 based on all problems reported for the 335.
As of recently I've been smelling a gas smell after driving my vehicle. No matter the distance or time I smelled the odor of gas. I am a certified automotive technician, so I decided to diagnose the problem myself. I put my vehicle in the air and spotted a wet spot of gas on the bottom left side of my fuel tank. To continue my diagnosis process I googled to see if anyone dealt with a similar issue. Seen a decent amount of people confirming the problem. A leak from the d/s fuel sending unit. So I take off my rear seats, and takeoff the fuel sending unit cover. Once the cover was off seen multiple cracks along side top of the unit. No warning lights was present, however did notice mpg was getting worse and worse. The little cracks makes my vehicle a fire hazard. I was able to have the replacement part ordered for about $140.

The high pressure fuel pump failed. I still have the vehicle but it does work. It cannot be driven with a bad high pressure fuel pump. To repair it is over $2000. 00.

Years of my 335d overheating and stalling and dealer cant figure out the issue. I’ve replaced injectors, done carbon blasting, replaced nox sensor, replaced whole battery/electrical components. Just recently replaced the all belts, hoses, and egr module to avoid catastrophic results. After removing the components you can see fluids got mixed and even got into my turbo all because of the egr was leaking. So many identical issues resulted in recalls from BMW for almost every single model from early 2000s to new models due to faulty egrs, except the 2011 335d. And of the nearly 1 million vehicles recalled by BMW this year alone, only the 2011 335d is not recalled for faulty pcv and egr which was finally determined by the dealer to be the cause of my overheating, black particles coming from the exhaust, melted plastic under my hood, and disgusting smell from air vents. There are numerous complaints regarding this same exact vehicle with the same exact issues on NHTSA and nothing is being done. Only when these cars catch on fire and result in a casualty will BMW finally add all model types to their recall lists. For now they will keep adding models one by one, pretending they do not have an extremely dangerous issue with all their cars. Ridiculous.

Fuel injectors and high pressure fuel pump. I believe there was a recall for the 335i model not the 335xi. These are the same exact engines and were produced at the same exact time with the same exact parts. BMW created index 1 injectors and has since remanufactured to what today is now called an index 12 injector. I believe my model is well over due to qualify for this recall because old injectors can cause a fire while driving. Fuel leaks around electrical spark plugs and BMW knows this but they only recalled for the rwd model which is ridiculous. Not only could this cause a fire, but it could danger the lives of the driver, passenger, and others on the road. Without a recall owners are forced to try and scrape together at least $2,850 just for the updated injectors not including the labor fee. Pressure builds up and these injectors could pop out (due to pressure) which could cause a serious accident. BMW needs to do what is right and recall the 2007-2011 335xi because they know these have the same problems as a regular 335. Please help insure the safety of vehicle operators and general public by investigating this issue and demand BMW to provide customers with the 335xi recalls. There is also an issue with the turbos that often fail due to “wastegate rattle”. This is highly dangerous because if the turbo fails while driving your cars engine will stop and overheat risking potential fire and crashing.

The engine and all electrical components including power steering spontaneously cutout while driving, usually while engine isnt being stressed at all, sometimes while idling. If the car is rolling, I have to restart the engine while driving and using manual power to steer. Obviously, this is a huge safety problem. I've just had the alternator and battery replaced, and they test fine. This has happened at least 50 times and I've reduced time driving vehicle until I solve the issue, which has persisted at least 6 months. I asked the BMW dealer about the following recall, and they claim they already performed it years ago after I already owned the car, without my recalling being told it was done. However, the symptoms are back, and BMW refuses to do anything about it at this time: report receipt date: Feb 07, 2013 NHTSA campaign number: 13v044000 component(s): electrical system potential number of units affected: 504,545 all products associated with this recall details 2 associated documents manufacturer: BMW of north America, llc summary: BMW is recalling 2007-2011 3-series sedans manufactured March 2007 through October 2011. The connector for the positive battery cable connector and the corresponding terminal on the fuse box may degrade over time. Over time, the high current flow and heat from electrical resistance may lead to a breakage of the connection, and a loss of electrical power to the vehicle. Consequence: if there is a loss of electrical power to the vehicle, the vehicle may unexpectedly stall, increasing the risk of a crash. Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the positive battery cable connector and secure it with an improved method, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in March 2013.
I bought a 2007 BMW 335i convertible on March 10th 2022. On March 18th I left my house and as I was pulling out of my neighborhood the vehicle cut off at about 25 miles an hour and as I pulled over I noticed black smoke coming out from under the hood. There were no warning lights on with the exception of a random airbag light that came on the day after I bought the car and a tire pressure monitor light. My wife and I pulled over and I ran to a nearby house and took a case of dasani water from painters who were working (with their permission). I got the fire put out within minutes of its starting but the wiring harness is completely melted together along with all of the induction piping to the turbos and the intake manifold and fuel line. I told the car home and had my insurance agent look at it. She said because it was a fire it would be a mechanical issue and needed to go to the BMW dealership. I paid to have it towed there that day. The dealer called me about an hour after the car showed up there and said that they would not service or inspect the vehicle for damage because I have the wrong insurance company. I was forced to tow the car back home after being turned away by several other dealerships and collision centers due to the high volume of mechanical work already on their lots. BMW has open recalls on 3 series vehicles because they can have engine fires. My car for some reason is not one of the ones they cover under that recall. Still have no resolution from my insurance company on what to do because the car hasn't been officially inspected by a BMW technician. I've now towed the car three times and I'm exactly where I was at the beginning of this claim.
Loss of power failure, it lights up several times when turning corners and then accelerating.
I am experiencing a know issue others have complained about related to the high pressure fuel injector failure in my vehicle. There have been previous recalls for this and my vehicle should fall within the recall dates and is showing all of the symptoms of this failure yet is it some how not part of the recall. What is happening is on cold starts or even idle the car is shaking and has a very apparent misfire, I have checked the spark plugs and they indeed have fuel on them. The injectors are causing excessive fuel in the cylinder this leads to a host of problems that are potentially, catastrophic like the engine seizing while driving due to oil dilution from the fuel.
Fuel system leaks when full. It emits a strong odor both in the car and in the garage. Visible fuel leak on exterior of tank. This poses health, environmental, and safety concerns. This is, after internet searching, a fairly common issue.

Multiple misfiring due to faulty injectors. BMW has revised the part 12 times. This is a very common and known problem in the eu where a recall was issued.

The oil filter housing gasket, the mechatronic transmission and the electrical system failed. Yes, it is available for inspection. My safety and the safety of others were put at risk as a result of my vehicle losing power suddenly while I was driving on the highway. I was driving at the highway speed limit and my vehicle malfunctioned and lost power while others were at high speeds. I had to abruptly stop almost causing an accident. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by the BMW service center. The vehicle has been inspected by the BMW dealer service department. The warning lamps that came on my dashboard were the check engine light, oil level light, and the transmission light. The car was running poorly. The engine wouldn’t crank and then it would jolt after driving. I would smell oil occasionally. The symptoms first appeared in 2011. I had my vehicle serviced at BMW regularly. In 2016 the symptoms got worse despite having my vehicle serviced for the same issue. I had the repairs done at BMW and when I drove it for the first time after getting it repaired it still failed.
I was driving on the interstate when my car started to lose acceleration. I could not accelerate up an incline. Then I heard a rattling. The next exit was a rest stop and as I was exiting my vehicle failed and shut down. I had no power at all. I coasted to a parking stall and turned the vehicle off after parking it safely. When I opened the hood the vehicle was not hot or smoking so I tried to start it. The car started but with a very loud knocking and rattling so I shut it off again and phoned the dealership. I towed the vehicle to the dealership over 30 days ago and have not been contacted by them not 1x. I have called weekly to no avail.
I write requesting that my vehicle 2008 BMW 335xi VIN number wbavd53558a253090 be tagged/listed as needing the revised sib 13 01 20 -emissions recall campaign 10e-a02 issued by BMW on 01/17/2020. This revised 2020 BMW internal amended recall instructions require replacement of all original fuel injectors. It amends what was being done since the original recall sib 13 14 20 from the year 2011 which required only individual failing injectors be replaced. Back in 2011, the BMW service center that worked on my car, replaced two (2) failing injectors and removed the car from the recall list prematurely. That was wrong because fuel injectors are individual pieces of equipment, and my car needs six (6) of them. In the year 2013, BMW replaced three (3) fuel injectors in a different bank under warranty. Making it that was still one more original injector left (injector number #5) in the car. This remaining injector #5 in my car is an original injector and should still be subject to the recall. I called BMW USA asking for the updated 01/17/2020 recall be completed on my car and they denied my request stating they have properly completed the original recall back in 2011. I had them review the records which indicate that back in 2011 during the original recall sib 13 14 20 only fuel injectors 4 & 6 were replaced under the recall because injectors. Injector number 5 is still original and it is subject to the 01/17/2020 sib 13 01 20 -emissions recall campaign 10e-a02 issued by BMW. Currently, this fuel injector leaks fuel down into the cylinder head and creates pollution. I am attaching service records. I appreciate you taking the time to please look into this and have BMW do the right thing by replacing this old original injector they left behind back in 2011. Thank you in advance for looking into this. --- emiro sangiovanni.
There is already a recall for the fuel injectors in vehicles like mine but my VIN number is not apart of the recall. I am having the same issues stated in the recall. Recall sib 13 01 20 which is for vehicles like mine manufactured between 04/07 and 11/08. My vehicle was manufactured in 07/07 but somehow it was not included. I have been troubleshooting an issue with the vehicle hesitating and misfiring and it is due to the fuel injectors leaking into the cylinder. I have replaced all spark plugs and ignition coils and there is evidence that the spark plugs have fuel on them due to the leaking fuel injector. When I start the vehicle it starts normally but after idling for 5 minutes it begins to misfire with white plumes of smoke exiting the exhaust. The vehicle was not driven before or warmed up before this happened. I have also had this exact same issue happen to me as I am sitting at a red light the vehicle will hesitate, misfire and a white plume of smoke comes out of the exhaust. This hesitation and misfire has also happened to me while driving in the city in motion at about 40-50mph. The car misfires/hesitates and regains power immediately. Upon inspection of the spark plugs, cylinder 3 was saturated in fuel.
I was told by my mechanic my fuel injectors have gone bad and I believe this is from a manufacturer's issue. Please investigate as I know various people that have the same issue with the same engine, year and make. I took it to the shop after I turned it on to drive and the vehicle was shaking a bit more than normal, when I accelerated the car was very vaguely responding to me. This is why my vehicle began to misfire, because of the fuel injectors. I will keep all receipts until further notice of this issue.
My car hasn't start up for 2 years now. 1st it started with a dead starter, then alternator, then the radiator and water pump bursted, and as I was standing outside of my car the passenger air bag deploys while the car was off and key out of the ignition. Luckily no one was in my car but now my car doesn't and wont crank or turnover, it makes a buzzing noise for a split second when I hit the start/stop button and thats all. I'm getting full voltage to it. Every time I run my scanner, I get different codes every time, I bought a 2nd scanner (carly) to compare and both threw out different codes every time but the main ones was the starter and pcv code; which I got 3 different starters put in, all new and the code was still ahowing. Ive spent more time researching and more money buying parts to fix my car then what I bought the car for which was $6k. Worst part is that my car wont even start so I cant take it to the shop and im definitely not paying a toll fee just to have the shop tell me what I already know. Ive looked up forums and multiple people is facing the same issues as I am with their results ending with a "please help if anyone finds out what this issue is". I've replaced the battery 3 times and registered the batteries each time. I have a new starter, alternator, radiator, radiator fan, water pump, thermostat, reservoir, crankshaft and camshaft position sensor, battery, ibs cables, power distribution box, ground straps, oil filter, oil filter housing, spark plugs, coil packs, manifold and gaskets, pcv valves, start/stop switch, relays, fuses, and I still get the same results which is no crank/no start and a buzzing noise. When I spoke with BMW customer support I told them that the closest BMW repair shop is 2 hours away from me and the lady replied "that's going to be a huge chunk of money for towing". I mean seriously, BMW should be paying for or that and fixing their mess but won't own up to it.
Tl- the contact owns a 2013 BMW 335i. The contact stated prior to the incident while driving at unknown speeds the vehicle was shaking. The contact also stated she noticed an unknown fluid leak. The contact stated while she was driving at an unknown speed the vehicle unexpectedly stalled without warning. The contact stated bystanders assisted her to push the vehicle to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to a dealer ( BMW of owings mills9702 reisterstown rd, owings mills, MD 21117) for a diagnostic test. The diagnosis was a failed transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer did not offer any further assistance. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and offered half for the repairs, however the contact refused. The failure mileage was 70,000 VIN was not available tp.
Fuel injectors are dumping excess fuel into the cylinders. Engine will surge causing check engine light to come on. Sure happens on cold start and also can happen while driving.
Less than 70k miles and had to replace manifold, injectors etc due to excess carbon BMW needs to do more to address the issue of pollution on these vehicles.
I was driving in a parking lot at about 5mph, and the vehicle suddenly stopped on its own while I was still pressing the accelerator. I continued to press the accelerator, but the vehicle would not move. After 3 or 4 minutes of trying to determine what the issue was, I put the car in park and restarted the engine. The car was able to accelerate once I turned the car off and restarted. If this would have happened while in traffic, it would have put many people at risk. No one was harmed because I was in a walmart parking lot traveling at 5mph when the car stalled, but I am unsure what caused this to occur. This situation seems to be related to the national highway traffic administration's recall number 14v176000, as it describes what I experienced while driving the vehicle.
I was driving when my car immediately shut off almost causing me to get hit from behind. Luckily, there was a gas station for me to quickly pull into and get out of the lane before completely coming to a halt. I'm confused as to why there isn't a recall on the 3 series. This is can cause fatalities.
My vehicle has multiple codes for faulty fuel injectors. A recall campaign was initiated I n 2010 to repair these injectors. I believe the recall campaign was titled 10e-a02: replace fuel injectors. The eligiblity was listed as vehicles with production dates from 4/01/2007 to 11/30/2008. Vehicles included were BMW e90 models. I have a 2007 e90 model with a production date of 3/2007. It is peculiar that the production date did not include all vehicles in that model year. I have researched and determined that the part number on my fuel injectors were the same as the part numbers of the fuel injectors for vehicles produces in 4/2007 and for the rest of that model year. I feel my vehicle should be included in that recall, please advise. 10.
I was driving and all of a sudden I could not steer, and the power was gone; it was barely moving; and the light came on saying to continue to drive with diminished speed. I was close to home on an access road; and was able to limp home. It was almost impossible to turn the steering wheel. I took it to global BMW in metro atlanta; and paid close to $3000 for repairs. Approximately a month later I had a problem again. The light came on and stated engine malfunction; reduced power, proceed with caution. In doing research this morning; I discovered that there was a recall on my vehicle for this exact problem. I did not know it; but global BMW had to know it. I called BMW recall and they claim that they are waiting on the parts. This recall has been in effect since 2010; so they must have the parts. Most of the lawsuits were settled out of court with a gag order; so it appears that BMW don't respond unless there is a formal complaint; and this is the reason for this complaint with your office. I will appreciate any assistance that you may provide.
In a left-hand turning lane of a city street, intending to make a left turn on a green light at a controlled intersection, my car was stationary at idle & in neutral at a complete stop until on-coming traffic cleared intersection. From a dead stop in 1st gear (stick shift), I started a left turn - suddenly, unexpectedly & unintentionally the vehicle rapidly & uncontrollably accelerated to 30 to 40 mph. I clutched out of gear, slammed on the breaks, but could not slow the vehicle. The vehicle subsequently jumped a curb and collided head-on with a telephone pole. Seat belt worked and air bag deployed. Car was towed. I was transported by ems to an emergency room to evaluate for injuries.
In 2017 my son was driving on the interstate 91 highway when his front driver tire rod broke off. Bolts were missing both driver and passenger sides. Tires went out and it could have caused a tragedy this happened on a Friday night. We paid to have the wheels and tires repaired and replaced. I provide the receipts to the BMW dealer ship but they were never honored or reimbursed. We paid to have waterpump replacement because. In July 2017 the air conditioning was blowing hot air. In Nov. 2017 the heating system was blowing cold air. Feb 2018 blower was still not working, when I found out that there were (recalls). We waited almost 4 months for recalled blower was replaced, we paid for themostrate replacement but still had no heat. Car won't start. So we paid for the battery to be tested and registered. Shortly after the car started leaking coolant again April 2018. Defected water pump. April 2018 electric system. I drove the car to BMW dealerships, for fuel leakage now the dealership service dept. Is telling me that the car won't start!!! and that the starter needs replaced. We have not had any previous issues with the starter. And I have already spent nearly $4,000. 00 within the past 5 months for things that I believe I should not have. Please investigate. In November 2017 the car was overheating.
I took my car into BMW for 2 recalls after waiting 2 months for the parts after 6 hrs had passed they claimed to have the wrong parts ,when I went to pick up my car it had no power I couldn't drive it home . I paid $147 for diagnostic that was supposed to be complimentary and a repair bill of $3,478. 25 April 20 20018 . Last year I had to replace the axle do it not twisting like a wash rag.
Driving my car at 65mph the whole car shut down I had no control of the vehicle. Was barely able to power the steering wheel to the right and coast into a parking lot. Where I was still not in a safe place because my brakes had no response as well. Finally snatched up the ebrake and the car began to slow down. This is the second time this issue has occurred with me driving and I'm lucky to have my life after two horrific incidents like this. Also I have no air bag so if I wouldn't of been so lucky to not hit anything head on I would of not even had a airbag deploy. I was told by BMW my car shut down because of the water pump but when this was replaced after a $950 bill my car still doesn't work and now I'm being told by BMW now it will be another $500 to figure it out. I have not been able to drive my car free of concern for more than 6 months. As much as this car has shut down or stalled on me I don't feel it's safe for anyone to drive a vehicle like this. Got the car January 2015 and my warranty was used up within 1 year fixing the same parts repeatedly. No my car won't even start or run properly. This is after I go the water pump replaced like I was instructed by BMW. I didn't have enough to load that document but I have it available also.
I went to the BMW dealership (to have the several recall performed on my car lastweek 1. Recall id 263858 2. Recall id 190318 3. Recall id 190319 4. Recall id 190320 5. . Read more...
BMW issued a recall - si b13 14 10 - and it covers replacing injectors, if the car falls under a certain date and has a certain batch of injector. Most importantly, on the bottom of the recall bulletin states: "warranty info" - and it specifically says, "the repair described in this bulletin is covered under warranty regardless of time or mileage. " the car had the injector(s) fail a few weeks ago, and vehicle is currently at stevens creek BMW. The dealers/manufacturer are refusing to honor the recall notice that I handed to them - even though it specifically states there is no time limit or mileage limit to replacing the injectors. . . 3 of the injectors were replaced several years ago, but 3 were not, and the injector that failed is part of the batch that should have been replaced but the technician decided not to years ago. They are saying this is not a recall - although it clearly says "voluntary recall". Because there is no time limit and the miles do not count against the recall (according to the bulletin) the injectors should be replaecd (and should have already been) without any customer needing to pay anything, because that is what the recall is for and that is what it directly says. But the dealership (stevens creek BMW) and BMW na or saying they won't honor the recall or tell me why. I'm not sure what to do because my car is stranded over there and they want $3500 to replace something that BMW says should already be replaced (regardless of time or mileage).
The car has had numerous issues since purchased. This all came to a head when driving home, under normal conditions, it suddenly would not shift past 1st gear. I proceeded to pull off to a side street and attempt to idle home, as I was about 1 mile from home. After approximately . 5 mile, the transmission suddenly lost first gear, there was an audible bang under the hood, and the car completely lost power. After being in a service center for a couple weeks, I am now informed that the engine is locked down and that the car will require a new engine to be working again. This car had been an absolute nightmare and has turned me quite calloused towards Bmws quality standards.
Since the name did not allow "d" in it. This is actually a 335d - diesel car. Service engine light came up. The code p02ce (cylinder 2 fuel injector offset learning t min limit) the issue is this is a reoccurring problem for me and now starts to happen every 6 months. Last one was in July 2016. Looks like some defective system. Please let me know how I can handle this scenario. The barely has 35k miles.
I was driving my car home from work one day and the car started loosing power and when I started the car the next day it had a rough idle I have not even had the car 6 months yet. The car now back fires and I don't know what the problem is and I just want my car fixed.
Fuel injectors are faulty.
November 25, 2016 approximately 17:44 (5:44 pm est) my 2011 BMW 335d stalled while driving. "engine malfunction reduced power" alert was on screen. I was able to re-start it, and continued on my way. This is a re-occurring dangerous problem with this car. BMW needs to fix this before somebody gets killed.
The high pressure fuel keeps failing . . . . . . . . . The engine loses power when driving . . . Safety issue.
