BMW 335 owners have reported 55 problems related to other fuel system pump (under the other fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 BMW 335

Failure Date: 04/24/2021

The high pressure fuel pump goes out without warning. Its extremely dangerous when traveling 70 mph down the interstate and all sudden the car stall and shuts down and you have to man handle the steering wheel. That being said an 18 wheeler had to pull a magic trick to not smash me and my 3 kids!!! I'm highly bothered by this. Iv seen reviews of the hpfp going bad why has BMW not fixed the issue yet???????😡😡😡.

2 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2014 BMW 335

Failure Date: 12/13/2020

My BMW 2014 335xi gt 63900 miles VIN:wba3x9c55ed867878 shifted to neutral when driving in motion on highway and lose power without warning light and stuck on road and towed to the dealer and they suggest to replace the engine cost 23k, and the reports said the reason may be due to fuel pump or previous oil leak. This issue is incredibly dangerous as it can leave anyone stranded anywhere. This car is only 6 years old. No warning light showed previously. I was doing regular oil change and maintenance and fiexed the oil leak. I thought it due to the recall case below: improper plating on fuel pump may result in stall if the fuel pump fails, the vehicle may stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash. Nhtsa campaign number: 15v189000 manufacturer BMW of north America, llc components fuel system, gasoline my car is experiencing the same symptoms as indicated in NHTSA campaign number: 15v189000 (fuel system, gasoline) but vehicle is not included in that recall of BMW potential number of units affected 18,054.

3 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 BMW 335

Failure Date: 05/01/2020

01may2020. Brought 2008 BMW 335i to south atlanta BMW dealership to replace rear brake pads (based on inspection report from a jan2020 appt). It was determined that: 1. Oil filter housing gasket: filter housing gaskets & oil cooler o-rings leaking oil 2. Radiator hose replacement. Upper coolant hose turning brown and seeping. 01may2020. Radiator hose was replaced along with conducting brake fluid flush and micro filter. Same day after repairs were complete the car stalls and shuts off and becomes unable to drive. Car is towed back to dealership for further inspection. Upon further inspection the following are identified: 1. Fuel pump replacement: r&r high pressure fuel pump & low pressure sensor per fault code 29f2 2. Turbocharger - variable boost control solenoid: both vanos solenoids & oil change per sib. Dealership informs me that the fuel pump's warranty has been extended 10 years/120000 miles due to manufacturing issues with the fuel pump. I have never been made aware of issues with the fuel pump or extended warranties for replacing. I do think I should be responsible for repairs on a malfunctioning fuel pump that was poorly manufactured. BMW should be responsible for the replacement and repair.

4 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 BMW 335

Failure Date: 01/17/2020

The high pressure fuel pump which was recalled and replaced in 2011 is problematic again. When pushing the gas pedal harder, the car stutters and does not respond to the extra power requested by flooring the gas pedal and makes put me in a dangerous situation. The service engine soon light came up as well. I pulled the car over when I could, stopped and started the engine again and the "service engine" light disappeared. This is the same issue back in 2011 and recurring again. I suspect this has been there for a long time, but as my wife does not punch the gas as hard as me, she noticed this only on few occasions. I noticed this twice in the last month and so, called the stealership and logging a complaint here. In 2011, they said BMW extended the warranty to 10 years and so, this should be covered now as well, but the stealership abviously would not acknowledge. Hope our great president trump show germany their place, and hope BMW pays for the terrible engineering till elon musk makes them go bankrupt.

5 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 BMW 335

6 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 BMW 335

Failure Date: 01/09/2020

High pressure fuel pump - critical failure while driving in heavy traffic on the highway, the engine died without warning while in motion. Brakes and steering became incredibly heavy (presumably without power) as I pulled over with very little time to react. Car would not restart, just repeatedly turn over without trying to start. Pulled codes to discover that the high pressure fuel pump just failed completely - p142e $0018pd. Stalling in motion without any warning signs was scary. Turbo wastegates - caution turbos rattle severely while driving and performance is reduced. Extra time and space is needed when merging and overtaking. No engine codes.

7 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 BMW 335

Failure Date: 12/26/2019

Car has issues with cold start, long crank, rpm surge, cylinder misfires. Car has index 5 and index 8 fuel injectors. The car is showing codes for issues with the high pressure fuel pump.

8 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 BMW 335

Failure Date: 12/19/2019

High pressure fuel pump failure could be the low pressure fuel pump not so sure got codes p3090 confirmed and p142e pending. The car was in motion when doing a turn the vehicle started to bog out and roughly idle I immediately turned to the right and shut the vehicle off tried to start it about three times in one minute intervals car would bog out and shut off threw me those two codes and a check engine light.

9 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2011 BMW 335

10 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2011 BMW 335

Failure Date: 06/04/2019

My vehicle has been diagnosed with a bad high pressure fuel pump. After doing research online I found that BMW had a recall for engines n54. I'm having the same exact issue as the n54, my engine is the n55. My car is not usable and BMW does not want to acknowledge this is on my n55 engine. BMW clearly acknowledges that the manufacturing of these high pressure pumps were bad they should have a recall done for the n55. What I am looking is for BMW to cover this issue.

11 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2011 BMW 335

Failure Date: 05/22/2019

Long crank times to start the engine. Had it diagnosed by an mechanic who determined the high pressure fuel pump was failing. He also was able to determine that this particular problem existed in years 2007,2008,2009, and 2010. He was sure BMW would replace the pump since those years had been granted an extension on that part to 10 years and 100,000 miles. When I took the car to the BMW dealer I was informed that my car was "too new" and would not be included in the warranty extension. I pointed out that was clearly the same issue as the previous four years, but they said no. I contacted BMW north America, and discussed the matter with them to no avail. I had the faulty pump replaced out of my own funds. I filed a complaint with the bureau of automotive repair in California, who did an investigation on the complaint, but closed the matter out. They suggested I file a complaint with your department in hopes that eventually 2011 models will be included in the warranty extension and I could get some sort of refund on the known faulty pump. The car was stationary while long crank times were noted. Replacing the high pressure fuel pump has solved the problem.

12 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2011 BMW 335

Failure Date: 06/05/2018

The high pressure fuel pump fails without warning. The fuel pump on previous n54 engine were recalled. The fuel pump was not changed for the newer n55 engine and they are continuing to fail.

13 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 BMW 335

Failure Date: 03/29/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2009 BMW 335i. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled in the middle of the road. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and had it towed to BMW of scottsdale in scottsdale, arizona. The vehicle was repaired in March of 2017 per an unknown fuel pump recall. The failure recurred on March 29, 2018 and the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not repaired again. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 91,725.

14 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 BMW 335

Failure Date: 03/05/2018

My car is experiencing the infamous hpfp failure. The code thrown is p2aaf (fuel pump plausability) and p29f2 (high-pressure fuel system, fuel pressure). When starting the car, the engine shakes, rumbles and almost dies, erratic idle. . . I have to rev up the engine for a few minutes to keep idle stable. The check engine light and ses light comes on. It has reduced power, I can not accelerate quickly any more. I see people behind me move over everytime I go from a stop. I took the car to BMW recently and they found $8,800 worth of repair cost on the vehicle. I was told the hpfp needs to be replaced but it is out of warranty since the car is 10 years old and past 120,000 miles. They would not replace it for free. I was also told that the pump was replaced a few times before. I think I am the second owner of the car. I purchased it in 2/2013. Roughly 3 years ago, the car's engine shutdown while I was in the middle of the highway. I was able to keep it going about 4 miles an hour and pulled over. I was told the low pressure fuel pump was replaced under cpo warranty to get the car working again. This car is a danger to me and my kids. I think the hpfp should be replaced free of charge if the symptoms exist, no matter if their warranty has expired.

15 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 BMW 335

Failure Date: 08/28/2017

The contact owns a 2007 BMW 335i. The contact stated that the engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle began to shudder as if it were going to stall when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The contact took the vehicle to checkered flag BMW (5225 virginia beach blvd, virginia beach, va 23462; 866-414-7820 or 757-490-1111) where it was diagnosed that the high pressure fuel pump and the low pressure fuel sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was included in the voluntary recall regarding the failure; however, due to the age of the vehicle, the failure was no longer covered under warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 73,000.

16 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 BMW 335

Failure Date: 08/01/2017

My car began to run roughly after a cold start as I was leaving my office. After a few seconds and feeling decreased power, I tried to pull off the road and into a parking spot in the parking garage at microsoft's head quarters (where I work). The vehicle stalled out. I was able to restart the vehicle and get into a parking space, but it continue to run roughly. I noticed an intense smell of gasoline and immediately turned off the engine. I exited the vehicle and checked the exhaust. It was blowing white smoke and had gasoline dripping out of the tail pipes, I let the vehicle cool down and restarted the engine with another person observing the tail pipe. It again was running very rough and had gasoline spraying out of the tail pipe. I immediately turned off the engine. The car was towed to a service center. They have diagnosed the issue is that 2 of the injectors are stuck in the fully open position. As a result, the car is unsafe (I was lucky there wasn't a massive fire). Previously, I'd had the hpfp (high pressure fuel pump) replaced under recall. I am concerned that the recalled/replaced hpfp may itself be defective and failed, causing 2 injectors to fail simultaneously (there's statistically no chance of two injectors failing simultaneously without some causal factor upstream in the fuel system). On contacting BMW (in bellevue wa) and BMW north America, they have refused to cover the repair or acknowledge the issue. I am continuing to engage with them on the repair, but believe this is a more serious safety issue. Had I not pulled off when I did, the vehicle could have went up in flames while on the highway.

17 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2011 BMW 335

Failure Date: 04/06/2017

Vehicle has been experienced cold start issue since about a year ago, it cranks and start up fine however the engine rpm will drop and struggle to stay at idle, engine eventually will stall within 2-3 seconds. Last week while waiting at a traffic light on a local street, the engine stall on its own, check engine light came on but went away after a minute, I managed to restart and drove to destination. This was the first experience of stalling during normal driving and first incident which the check engine light comes on. Brought a car to a independent BMW technician and fault code was indicating high pressure fuel pump was the source of stalling.

18 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2013 BMW 335

Failure Date: 04/02/2017

This vehicle's fuel pump had an issue which would cause a stall, and it was eventually replaced by BMW just like a recall, but they made sure to emphasize that it was a "limited warranty extension" and was 'not' a recall. Stalling and fuel leaks seem like a recall issue especially with respect to "defects in materials or workmanship" as stated in the attached document. I do not know if this is a newer production of the same defective fuel pump, or a revised version. But if it's the old one, it feels like they're just trying to push the issue further away until it's forgotten. Just like they attempted with the high pressure fuel pump (hpfp) for the older model 335i (2007-2012). Please stop the BMW recall-sorry not-recalls; it's confusing and it leaves large populations of defective vehicles with no accountability whatsoever. Thank you.

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

High pressure fuel pump failure.

21 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 BMW 335

Failure Date: 11/16/2016

I've have had several issues involving the fuel pump/injectors. All service has been preformed at the same dealer. The cost has exceeded 3500. 00 in the last 3 years. Car is in the shop again, dealer indicates fuel injectors are the problem, another 1989. 00 to get the car fix. I believe this is too much $ for the same issue for a 3 year period.

22 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2013 BMW 335

Failure Date: 10/27/2016

While driving on the freeway going to work, around 5:30 in the morning, the power train warning light came on the screen. . , while on sport mode selected I noticed that my rpm was close to 3k doing 65 mph. , the vehicle slowed down to 45 miles per hour and had no power. . , I was able to pull over the shoulder and tried several times to re-start the car to no avail. , I had the car towed to the nearest BMW dealership, and they diagnosed it as a bad high pressure fuel pump. They replaced the pump the same day, test drove it and everything is back to normal. The repair was covered under warranty, I sent the towing expenses to the BMW road side assistance for reimbursement. , said it will take a few weeks to get it in the mail. .

23 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 BMW 335

Failure Date: 05/15/2016

High pressure fuel pump & vacuum lines tank 1 & 2 failures. Turbocharger & waste gate failure as well, fuel sending units developed hairline fractures that cause fuel to leak on exhaust manifold likely to case a fire was told not to drive car luckily the mechanic notice the leakage. No more need to to say, you guys are aware of this do some about it please! I never purchase a BMW ever again!.

24 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 BMW 335

Failure Date: 02/07/2016

Faulty high pressure fuel pump- loss of power - engine stall in traffic.

25 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 BMW 335

Failure Date: 01/16/2016

I was driving at 60 miles per hour on woodall rogers fwy in dallas, when my car started shaking and went into limp mode. I pulled over on the highway and could not get the car to start again. I had the car towed to BMW. They said it had nothing to do with a previous recall about the fuel pump and gave me a $3,000 quote. I had it towed to an independent shop where they replaced a water pump and other items. However, the recall information I have been reading describes exactly what happened to my car. Whenever I drive my car now and I accelerate, it still gives me an engine warning and starts shaking. I believe my car is "suffering" from the water pump issue.

26 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2014 BMW 335

Failure Date: 01/11/2016

Vehicle stalled on road way while going 50 plus miles an hour. Shutting off completely. Police were called. Could not get car to shift and move. Needed two different tow trucks to get dollies to move car. BMW replaced fuel pump. BMW says warranty on NHTSA for my year make and model does not apply to my vehicle. I am scared for my life. Felt like I was going to get killed as cars honked going 60 miles an hour around me at 830 at night on beach blvd.

27 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 BMW 335

Failure Date: 01/06/2016

There is a serious defect with the engine and fuel pump. It takes a long time to accelerate when driving especially on the highway, the car will shake, jolt and the engine will start to make a weird noise. There is oil leaking constantly and the check engine light is constantly coming on even after just being repaired. The car goes into limp mode and has shut down on me numerous times while driving. I've had the fuel pump replaced numerous times and yet it needs to be replaced against. The car will overheat at times and and just shut down. I was driving on a busy city street when the car just shut down, I couldn't steer or brake it just died in the middle of a busy street. It was extremely unsafe and put my life in danger as well as the other drivers on the road, especially since they were driving at fast speeds.

28 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 BMW 335

Failure Date: 09/28/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 BMW 335i. The contact stated that there was a premature leak as well as strong fumes of fuel which progressed with no warning. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who diagnosed that the fuel injectors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000.

31 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2011 BMW 335

Failure Date: 03/25/2015

I'm having the exact same issue the 2007-2010 BMW 335i's were having with the fuel pump. Reduced engine power error message on navigation screen.

32 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 BMW 335

Failure Date: 03/17/2015

Car taken to dealer for rough idle and poor performance. Told that issue was with fuel coils. Paperwork states that coils need to be replaced. Deferred as one of the could had already been replaced. On way home car began to emit white smoke. Car unable to accelerate. High pressure fuel pump already replaced. High risk for accident for ultimately turned out to be 5 failed fuel injectors. BMW knows about this issue but will not address for recall. This is not an uncommon occurrence per multiple web searches.

33 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2014 BMW 335

Failure Date: 12/05/2014

Was driving in rain, stopped at a red light with start/stop enabled and in standby mode. When signal turned green vehicle struggled to come to life and stalled with message on I-drive saying drivetrain malfunction and after a few attempts to bring the engine back to life was able to drive through the intersection and pull over to the curb after which the engine would still struggle to idle and transmission refused to engage drive mode. Had the vehicle towed to the BMW service center and they said the low pressure fuel pump failed and replaced it and claim the issue is fixed.

The service engine sensor illuminated. While traveling at a high rate of speed, the vehicle made a noise, sputtered, and decelerated. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop and the mechanic replaced three of the six high pressure cylinders that malfunctioned. At some point, the other three cylinders may need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 69,138.

35 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 BMW 335

Failure Date: 08/25/2014

Injectors 1-3 have failed. Looked up BMW customer TSB's and found (si b13 14 10) customer letter describing a known failing part with specific part numbers that correlate. I have these part numbers currently installed in my car and failing. My car was taken in previously for a related TSB due to faulty fuel pump and software update which was replaced however the dealership did not look into the rest of the fuel system. **a letter was sent to me about the fuel pump and software update. I did not request service or have any issues at the time. Now that my "extended service" for these parts is up, BMW is not willing to help! I think this is bs considering 1. The dealership could have changed the known faulty part during my previous service. 2. Why was this not followed up on by Bmwna since its all part of the fuel system?.
