1 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2017

Getting a hard warning for "passenger restraint system malfunction". Apparently this has something to do with a sensor in the passenger seat going bad. This can cause injury or fatality as the passenger airbag will not deploy correctly. There has been a recall for this but my VIN was not included.

2 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2017

Restraint malfunction for front passenger code 93c3. My VIN is not a part of the recall but the particular model has recall for the same issue. The code is for the airbag which would not deploy in the case of an accident if a passenger is sitting in the front seat or not.

Dec. 2008 I received a consumer advisory letter from BMW of north America. The letter states that depending on the manner and frequency of the front passenger's entry and exit, small cracks may develop in the passenger seat occupant detection mat. If this condition exists, the front passenger air bag and side air bag will deactivate, and both the air bag warning lamp and front passenger "on-off" lamp will illuminate. In this situation the front passenger air bag and side air bag will not deploy, even in a severe accident. They are extending the warranty coverage for 10 years. In January of this year both the air bag warning lamp and the passenger air bag "on-off" lamp are illuminated in my 2006 325i BMW. The letter states should this happen have the vehicle checked without delay at an authorized BMW center. I did that and was told the problem is different from what the advisory letter states and will cost me $1300. 00. I contacted BMW customer relations of north America and spoke to a person by the name of "jodie" who told me she would check with the authorized BMW center. I told her I am the only driver of my car and very seldom do I have any passengers with me and I never had any accident with my car, so the air bags never deployed. Several weeks later her reply was because of the age of my BMW they would not honor the warranty "but" they would discount the cost of the repair and instead of charging $1300. 00 they would charge $1002. 00! so that's my story and my air bag warning lamp is still lighted!.

BMW 2006 325i . Driver's and/or front passenger's airbags malfunctioning light in red I have contacted performance BMW(919-942-3191) in chapel hill, nc who states my vehicle is not part of this recall. I have asked the service person that I spoke with (monica) to help with contacting BMW and they refused, stating they did have the phone number. I would like to ask that BMW USA please include my vehicle in the recall due to the safety that is involved with the possibility of the air bags not deploying if the vehicle were to be hit or involved in an accident. 5 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2013

My vehicle (BMW 330i ? 2006), has an airbag/seat belt light eliminated on the dash. BMW has diagnosed it as a failed passenger seat sensor. 2006 330i sports seats were recalled for this item in 2008. My vehicle which has sports seats was never called for the recall. They stated my vehicle's VIN 'does not qualify' for the recall. The manufacturer has also extended warranty for 10 years on all 3 Series models with out the sports seat option for this sensor. I have talked a dealer service representative and BMW directly. They said my only option would be to file a complaint and that the government would have to warrant a recall on this vehicle and combination of options. BMW recall id # 57362 - air bags: frontal recall date Aug 05, 2008 recall date: Aug 05, 2008 model affected: 2006 BMW 3-series summary: BMW is recalling 200,000 my 2006 3 Series sport seat, my 2004-2006 5 series standard and sport seat, and my 2004-2006 x3 passenger vehicles. Depending on the manner and frequency of the front passenger's entry and exit, small cracks have developed in the mat. If this occurs, the front passenger air bags, with the exception of the head protection system, will be deactivated and the air bag warning lamp as well as the passenger air bag "on-off" lamp will be illuminated. Consequences: in this situation the front passenger air bags will not deploy even if a sufficiently severe accident would occur and occupant protection provided by the system would not be possible. Remedy: dealers will rework the front passenger seat sensor mat so that external force application to the seat does not cause a crack to the mat. The recall began on November 6, 2008. BMW will also extend the warranty on these vehicles to 10 years from first registration without any mileage limit. Owners may contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417. 6 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

To whom it may concern, my passenger airbag sensor light and passenger seat belt light came on unexpectedly while driving. After doing a bit of research on the internet I found that there was a similar issue others were having with the same model car 2006 BMW 325i sedan e90 series and there is an ongoing recall 08v384000. So I decided to contact my local BMW dealership to see if my car was covered in the recall they said no and quoted me a price of well over 1400 dollars to fix. I have since found out that in the event of a collision that my passenger airbag will not deploy. After, further research I feel that my model is also an affected in this recall (08v384000). I hope that this submission will not fall on deaf ears. I am doing this for all the others like me affected by this issue and demand service to fix a known safety issue for us and for our passengers. Regards.

7 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

I am the 2nd owner of my 2006 BMW 3 Series. I've driven it for about 4 months and one day I go to start my car to go to work and I noticed that the air bag indicator came on and it says passenger restraint malfuntion. I have no idea why or what caused this!? I don't mess with my car, it just randomly did it once I tried to start it. *I've done some research and I seen an article from nbc news that says "BMW ag said Wednesday it was recalling 200,000 vehicles over concerns that the front passenger air bag may not deploy in a crash. " now that really concerns me! I need to get this fixed as soon as possible. Please help!.

8 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2012

I'm the owner of a 2006 series 3 BMW. . This is a safety issued concerning NHTSA campaign id number: 08v384000 for the recall of the passenger seat mat defect. "in this situation the front passenger air bags will not deploy even if a sufficiently severe accident would occur and occupant protection provided by the system would not be possible". A passenger restraint malfunction is displayed on my vehicle dashboard. Today BMW and subsequently the dealer refused to replace this part at not cost. According to BMW only a selected number of vehicles were affected by this problem. After reading reviews , blogs and previous complaints it is clear that BMW is refusing to service my car or any other of a potential road hazard with fatal consequences. The cost of over $1,300 should be carried by the company and not by their customers. Especially when it is clear that the airbag malfunction problems was a problem affecting more than the selected number of vehicles. BMW should stop promoting vehicles with high safety ratings when is clear the quality of the products used for this matter do not meet the expected standards.

9 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

When a passenger sits in the front passenger seat the airbag failure light illuminates, the seat belt light illuminates and remains lit, and the passenger airbag off light illuminates. This is apparently due to micro-cracking in the passenger seat occupancy detection mat, however BMW only includes a small percentage of affected cars in the 2008 recall. BMW na refuses to fix this safety defect for all 2006 build year 330i models with sport seats. The same seats which are affected by the identical issue for 2005 build year. It seems given the number of cars affected by the same issue that the defect was not corrected for the 2006 build year. This could result in the passenger airbag not deploying in a collision which is extremely dangerous.

10 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2011

I took my 325i 2006 BMW to the local dealership about the air bag passenger warning light in the computer's dashboard. I was told that it was the passenger sensor mat underneath the seat that needed to be replaced&was given an estimate of $900 to fix it. I asked to check if there have been any recalls on air bags for my vehicle. I was asking the question-why does an airbag not work? I was told yes there has been a recall but my VIN# was not on the list. I asked why&he said because BMW only recalled so many of the 2006 325i vehicles to fix. I said this is a vehicle defect&BMW only recalled certain ones? the answer was yes. I decided to follow up with BMW USA who confirmed a recall for the 2006 325i BMW sensor mat&once again said the recall did not include my VIN#. I made it very clear of my feelings with their decision to fix certain vehicles and not all the VIN#s. I did further research on the computer & found other consumer complaints about the passenger sensor mat warning light and vehicle VIN#s who are not on the recall list. I would ask that you take this matter into consideration very seriously. Everyday drivers take precious cargo into their vehicles children&adults. If there is a manufacturer defect with a vehicle they need to be responsible for all VIN#s of that year, make&model. This recall is not just a problem for a certain#of vehicles&excluding others. The recall cost for BMW is far less&avoids a more serious problem if the air bag does not deploy causing injury or death. If the sensor mat does not work, the air bag does not go off. It does not take a rocket scientist to know the sensor mat is the problem-the one BMW installed-yet they won't be responsible for replacing it. I am the consumer-should I pay for something that is defected-a installed life saving device in the vehicle. No,I do not feel this is something I am responsible for. 11 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2010

When an adult is seated in the front passenger seat of the vehicle, the air bag service indicator, no seatbelt indicator, and "passenger airbag is disabled" indicator are all illuminated. When taking my vehicle in to the local BMW service center to diagnose the issue, I was told the cause was a faulty passenger seat sensor mat (have documentation), which is meant to detect when a passenger is present. In addition, I was told in my vehicles current state, if I were to get in an accident with a passenger present, the passenger airbag would not deploy. While performing independent research, I found that BMW has released an official recall (#08v384000) which describes these same symptoms, caused by a defective passenger seat sensor mat. In the recall details, the make, model, year and seat type all match the specifications of my vehicle. After discovering the recall information, I contacted BMW of north America representative by telephone. I was told that because my vehicle VIN is not on the recall list, the repair must be done at an out of pocket expense. I am filing this complaint because the defective seat sensor reduces the safety of the vehicle passengers, as well as violates air bag regulations established by the NHTSA. Since this is a defect, the cost should be covered 100% by the manufacturer, BMW.
