Failure Date: 11/16/2018

I was going between 30 and 35 mph through city streets at roughly 3am on my way back from my commute which is roughly 60 miles. I noticed it started to smell like burning plastic and immediately after smoke was visible coming from hood vents, I parked the car as soon as I could and popped the hood and the heat cover for the hood was on fire along with most other components in the engine bay. My friend immediately called 911 for assistance as I ran and tried to warn neighbors , within 7 minutes the car was completely chard. No maitnance lights were on and nothing seemed to be a problem. The two recalls I never received both would explan this incedent NHTSA campaign number: 17v683000 NHTSA campaign number: 17v676000.

6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 BMW 3 Series

Failure Date: 12/07/2017

Takata recall the first complaint is that I am afraid to drive or allow anyone to drive a car with this airbag recall which has in some cases resulted in serious injuries or death. The car is thus parked in the garage while the dealer tells me they can't get the car in for repairs for 6 weeks at least which is unacceptable. Secondly, there are two additiona recalls that have no "fix" at this point which could also result in serious injury or death. I am at a loss for what to do with this vehicle. It is a hazard and completely useless for the purpose for which it was intended. The two additional recalls are both fire hazards and are not correctable at this juncture. This is unacceptable.

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 BMW 3 Series

Failure Date: 12/06/2017

Recently I got a letter from BMW that my vehicle was recalled for two issues which I have been experiencing since a year. 1 overheating 2. Plastic burning smell inside the compartment. I brought this to their BMW's notice many times which they ignored. And recently when I got this recall letter from BMW I gave them a call(princeton BMW), they gave me an appointment saying they will fix that. I told them crystal clearly that I was there for the two recall issues only and nothing else. And to my shock ,let alone repairing the mandatory recall issues, they gave a big list of other things, which I did not even ask for, and they charged me around 170 dollars(attached copies). I am bringing this to your notice for solely one reason, and that is there are millions of unsuspecting people who are unaware of this malpractice who will be falling into this kind of trap. BMW is trying to make money out of this situation too. I am attaching all the copies. Please look into this matter and please make them realize there is an authority watching. I felt like somebody stole money from me. Hope to get a response from the department. Thank you very much.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 BMW 3 Series

Failure Date: 09/10/2017

Sunday, 9/10/17 @ 11:30am I was driving south on 294 in chicago and the oil pressure message came on, shortly followed by engine train message suggesting I pull over and turn off the engine!! thankfully I was able to get to an exit at lake cook road just as the car stopped running. It would not start and was towed to a repair shop whereby they said it was the timing chain and the engine is probably shot. This car has 71k miles and has been serviced religiously yet warranty expired. New to BMW I never expected something like this!.

Battery died. Jumpstarted, drove for a bit. Turned off, turned back on drove home. Parked the car. Tried to restart and the red electronic steering wheel lock indicator was on. Plenty of juice in the battery, car will not even attempt to turn over. Can not get into neutral to tow out. Car is dead where it sits because of the electronic steering lock. Thank goodness we weren't in the middle of nowhere.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 1997 BMW 3 Series

Failure Date: 08/09/2015

When I was at a stop light, my engine began to accelerate with my foot on the brake. When the light turned green the engine continued to revve higher. It did not tamper down until I put the car in neutral. The engine continued to revve when I began to drive again until I came to my destination and placed the car in park and shut the engine off. It drove fine without further incident that day. Before the incident I had turned on the a/c. On Tuesday (2 days later) it unintentionally accelerated again at higher revolutions at the same stop light. I repeated what I did but this incident, the car did not throttle down. It was as if it was in manual mode with throttle fully opened. I had to put the car in neutral then park. My destination at both times was 10 min away. It drove fine ever since. I had the car about a week. I did test drive the car and it did not have any history of this.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 BMW 3 Series

Failure Date: 07/25/2015

When driving on PA-401, I approached stop sign at PA-82. My speed was approximately 40 mph, slowing to make a routine stop. When approaching the intersection at low speed, I started hearing a pulsing thump from the passenger side of the car. Drove slowly home and had the car towed to a BMW dealer. It turned out that the two aluminium engine mount bolts on the passenger side of the car snapped. This meant that the engine was not properly fastened to the frame - a very dangerous situation. Engine mount bolts should not snap for no reason. And BMW should cover their replacement (parts and labor) at no charge to the owner. (my car was certified pre-owned, so I only had a $50 out of pocket cost, but once it expires later this year, my cost would have been significantly higher, not to mention the danger of driving a car with a bouncing, unsecured engine).

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 BMW 3 Series

Failure Date: 03/04/2015

Engine ignition coil failed and car started to shake rendering it unable to drive. Car is towed to dealership who indicated that ignition coil failures are a common issue across Bmws. There are recalls on this problem in european countries and I am wondering why there isn't a recall in the us.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 BMW 3 Series

Failure Date: 12/20/2014

I hit a bump in the road, complements of moonachie, new jersey route 120, new jersey has the worst roads in the country and one of the highest taxes too. I had an auto parts place that sold me 2-struts-2 shocks, which the roads ripped apart on my car tell me, he'd be out of business if it wasn't for new jersey. After I hit the crater in the road I felt a loud rattle bumping sound when I slowed downed and accelerated, the engine never really idled right afterwards. I had a friend look at the car and he told me all four bolts connected to the motor mounts, all of the bolts separated and broke off in the engine, they snapped off completely and broke the motor mounts as well. I hear from reading on this site the bolts were a manufactures reject, faulty bolts. That being said , I wish I could litigate against BMW for using the bolts and the state of new jersey for not properly caring for the roads and leaving hazardous conditions on the roads which I might add be fatal for some unfortunate person. Visit hoboken , new jersey and check out their main street, washington, the roads in newark, new jersey are much better than there. Could new jersey's politicians be stealing this money set aside for road repair? nah, of course not, in new jersey?.

I was parked, placed my car in reverse and immediately all of my dashboard lights were activated (4x4 malfuntion, abs brake failure, transmission malfunction) then my car lost power. 22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 BMW 3 Series

Failure Date: 07/26/2014

Engine mount bolts: was driving our car yesterday and went over some train tracks. They were bumpy but not jarring or excessive. Right after that a strong vibration started going through the car. I took the car home and found the four bolts holding the motor mount bracket to the engine block had all sheared or fallen out. The engine is now sitting at an angle.

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 BMW 3 Series

Failure Date: 07/18/2014

I was going over a small bump in the road at 30 mph and my engine mount failed. All four aluminum bolts sheared off and the engine dropped. This drop snapped my passenger drive shaft (half axle) in two pieces. I think BMW has a serious problem with the strength of the engine mount hardware. The engine mount bolts should be stronger. The failure mode is dangerous.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 BMW 3 Series

Second problem with drivetrain malfunction, first problem back in Nov 2013 bought the car in August 2013.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 BMW 3 Series

Failure Date: 02/20/2014

Noticed an unusual engine vibration. Went to my mechanic who inspected vehicle. Pointed out broken motor mount bolts. His comment I have seen several of these over the years. The bolts are made from aluminum -- they break. Said he this was an ongoing and well known issue with BMW from that year and 2009. Said BMW would not cover it. He also stated the car had no visible signs of damage, to undercairrage that would suggest any damage. He said it just happens, and a lot of people have complained to BMW, all to no avail. Instead of beemers. . . They should call this car a bummmer. It is an very expensive problem, created by poor engineering and manufacturing. Aluminum bolts holding an engine.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 BMW 3 Series

Failure Date: 02/20/2014

When starting from idle to running state at a stop light the whole car started shaking. Took the shop and they say it a faulty coil/spark plug. Costs me $600-$1000. Looks like this is a common problem in BMW 325i 2006. They should fix this.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 BMW 3 Series

Failure Date: 02/19/2014

When I start my car it wants to turn off. BMW issued a recall I took it in to fix it but problem still happening. Then my car has 63000 miles and it kicks a lot in first gear. For low miles that should not be happening.

My car started shaking vigorously, and a message was displayed (drivetrain malfunction).

31 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 BMW 3 Series

Failure Date: 08/11/2013

I was driving my vehicle on the highway in the left lane, trying to pass a car in the middle lane. After getting in front of the car in the middle lane, I tried to accelerate so I could re-enter the middle lane, but the car acted as if it slipped into neutral and would not accelerate. The engine growled as if it were in neutral. It kept driving, but would not accelerate, despite me stepping harder on the gas. This was potentially dangerous as there was a car immediately behind me, which could have rear ended me at over 60mph, and the car in the middle lane that I was trying to pass could have also hit me on the passenger side of my car. . 32 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 BMW 3 Series

Failure Date: 05/15/2013

My vehicle did not have a recall on the following items: hpfp, fuel injectors, wastegate. Failure- long crank, engine malfunction light, engine service soon light, clicking(rattling) coming from bottom of car(waste gate), car lose power on freeway, when rev clicking in the fuel injectors. Please help I have read many people had the same problem and many people were issue a recall. I haven't got one and am 100% positive these three items needs repair. 33 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 BMW 3 Series

Failure Date: 04/18/2013

Auto start/stop function has malfunctioned before where when I take my foot off the brake, the car doesn't start again. Normally I can just press the start button and put it in drive. This time, however, I went to start it again after it had an "auto start/stop malfunction", and it wouldn't turn back on. An error popped up saying "ignition malfunction -- do not turn engine off. Car will not start again. " currently waiting to hear back from the dealership after I had to flatbed it. Also the car wouldn't go into neutral so they had to drag it on the flatbed.

34 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 BMW 3 Series

Failure Date: 03/04/2013

The car has displayed "drivetrain malfunction, drive moderately" twice now in less than one year of ownership. When this display has occurred, the car goes into "limp mode" and can only be driven at low speeds or with very sluggish acceleration. This is a safety hazard, as it becomes easy to be rear-ended by another driver when it slows substantially.

35 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2002 BMW 3 Series

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

This is not as much a complaint as a request for help. Since March of 2013 I have replaced 5 throttle bodies and 3 gas pedal sensors, all oem parts. The problem that happened again today: driving at normal highway speed [55/60] the eml, traction control and brake warning lights all went on. Pulled over and turned off. Restarted, now "service engine, eml, traction control and brake lights" were on. Turned off, restarted, same lighting situation, very rough idle and car would not drive, as it was struggleing for fuel. Unplugged the "mass air flow sensor": car started, displayed no warning lights, drove fine about 8 miles to repair shop. Code read shows, "throttle position sensor", replaced. . Same problem within minutes of driving. A little internet research on e46 finds this an all to common problem with no solution. Thanks in advance.
