My vehicle just killed as I was driving it. I got an fuel system error code as well as a drivetrain malfunction error when accelerating. Although there was a recall on 2012 528i fuel pump that was deemed to be the culprit of this problem, BMW is saying my car wasn't a part of the recall.

My 528xi was being driven at high speed when engine bucked and seized. Managed while this was happening to get to emergency area. Car died, no neutral/ towed to dealer 12/31/18. Computer showed with no warning low oil pressure followed immediately by drive chain failure. Had to fight to get engine replaced with remanufactured engine and ask for turbo to be replaced. 6/22/19 cr died again would not start, jumped started drove to dealer and dies again. Told need d new battery. 6/30/19 car once again stopped dead on major road, no warning. Now they say I need a new fuel pump.
Got fuel supply error on the vehicle, after diagnose was the fuel pump. Bought new fuel pump and module at boston BMW in allston MA. After 3 miles fuel pump fails again. Now after another 5,000 miles fuel pump failing again, got error message and car turned off. Smh, 3 new fuel pumps in less than a year! this is insane! BMW keep saying my car is not in the recall of fuel pump when it should be! worst part is that is that both times I been driving 40+ miles and vehicle just shuts off in the middle of the road!.
Fuel smell in the driver side rear. The fuel pump leaks fuel.

While driving, the engine stalled and completely turned off. I lost power steering and the ability to use my breaks. I lost control of the car. I came to a stop in the intersection of two streets where the speed limit was 45 mph. United BMW - roswell, GA said the fuel pump failed and it shorted the ekps module. $1900 in total. BMW has issued recalls for the fuel pump failure for years 2007 to 2012. . Read more...
The contact owns a 2012 BMW 528i. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the failure was the same as indicated in NHTSA campaign number: 16v746000 (fuel system, gasoline). The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The contact notified an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel pump monitor was burned and the fuel pump failed. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,420. The VIN was not available.
I have a oct 2011 BMW 528i and it stalled out while I was traveling in excess of 45 miles per hour on a very busy street on 03/13/2018. The service indicator for the fuel pump illuminated. It would not restart, so it was towed. The cause was a fuel pump failure. We were lucky that we didn't crash on the highway. The dealership won't accept my car as the recall because the car was manufactured in oct 2011, but it has the same failure as the other car that was recalled.
I own a 2012 BMW 528i (oct 2011). While driving various speeds, the engine suddenly stalled and became inoperable. The failure occurred while driving on the freeway. The vehicle was taken to an BMW where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump module was faulty and needed to be replaced. I was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v746000 (fuel system), although the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 63000. This is illegal and unfair.
My car was manufactured in the recall of a fuel pump module but the VIN is not listed so recall does not effect my car. How is this possible and dangerous lost power on highway.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 BMW 528i. While driving various speeds, the engine suddenly stalled and became inoperable. On two separate occasions, the failure occurred while driving on the freeway. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer was called (bob smich BMW, 818-346-3144) and the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v746000 (fuel system), although the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 95,000.
In-tank fuel pump safety recall - no. 16v-746, last updated 10/13/2016. I attempted to get this recall accomplished after receiving a letter from BMW in Mar 2017 that the parts were available and to contact my local detailer for the repairs. I scheduled the repairs at BMW annapolis on 21 April 2017 but was informed the parts were in fact not available after an all day wait. I again contacted BMW annapolis today 9 Nov 2017 and was again informed the parts were unavailable which remains contrary to the letter I received from BMW back in March 2017. I believe waiting 2 years for parts is excessive. Thank you and have a great day.

I was notified of recall number 16v746 by BMW in December of 2016. On 12/20/16 I attempted to get an appointment at my local BMW dealer to repair the fuel pump, but was told that parts were not available. I also talked with BMW na, but got the same answer. I called dealer again in February & March of 2017, but was told that parts would not be available until April 2017. Called dealer (BMW of asheville) on April 18th, still no parts. Called dealer on July 6 to report fuel vapors noticed when parking the car. Told they would "pursue the repair parts". On July 7th, I received an email from david reiff, service mngr at BMW of a who stated in the email: "mr. Therien, I will see what I can do to escalate this case. The fuel smell is not part of the recall part. " on July 7th, I responded by email: "I don't understand how you could state that "the fuel smell is not part of the recall part. " in a statement issued by BMW na (also on NHTSA's website) I quote: "this safety recall involves the in-tank fuel pump. The fuel pump connector may become damaged which may be noticed by fuel odor. " my wife and I on numerous occasions have noticed the smell of fuel when parking this 528i. Please expedite this repair for the safety recall on this car. This has been a known problem by BMW since at least July of 2015. It has further been BMW's obligation pursuant to recall campaign no. 16v-746 to repair this defect within a reasonable period of time. We are now at 9 months after the safety recall was issued & 7 months from my first request to complete this repair. This not a reasonable period of time. Unless this is resolved in a timely fashion, I will forward my notes, emails and letters to the NHTSA in washington as a formal complaint. Apparently, BMW does not intend to do these repairs. Please help me to get this safety issue resolved with BMW. Thank you.
The fuel pump suddenly failed as I was driving on the highway. I was lucky to be able to get over to the shoulder before the car quit completely. If I had stopped in the lane I am sure I would have been hit by someone going 65 miles/hr. There is a recall related to exactly this issue that includes 2012 models but my VIN number is not included in the recall.
Car was on while parked and just shut off would not start back up . Took it to the dealership found out that the fuel pump and module needs to be replaced.
On two occasions vehicle suddenly offers an alert and stops accelerating and stalls on the freeway leaving us stranded. The car was taken to the BMW dealer and corporate was made aware of the situation after the first incident and didn't fix it. They kept it for about approx10 days and only replaced the battery. Three weeks later the second incident happened. This time we took a picture of the alert on dash screen which said fuel supply problem. They replaced the fuel pump but obviously their parts are faulty. They didn't convey to me that they fixed the problem with the pump but only that they put in a new one. The car placed us in life threatening situations and we are not secure driving it. I asked for BMW to reacquire the vehicle but they refused. There is no guarantee the car will not so the same thing. I imagine thousands of customers have experienced the same problem yet ,BMW didn't catch and did my car after the first incident. The car was in motion on the freeway with fast moving traffic in both cases. We are very fearful and disgusted. Date below not exact.
I just had fuel supply problem with my 2011 BMW 528i. My wife drove the vehicle to work and left it parked in the morning. When she wanted to go for lunch, the car would not start although the engine cranked and the battery was fine. The onboard system displayed the fuel supply warnings message. Trying to start the car for a couple of hours without any luck, we had to call in aaa to tow the car to the dealer shop for repair. After a couple of hours struggling to set the transmission to netural, we managed to get the car to the dealer shop. Right after we unloaded the car from the tow truch, it started to work normally. We left the car at the BMW service for diagnositic. But after two days of checking, they could not find anything. Everything seemed normal. They recommended me to replace the battery although they do not believe the battery was the cause. The fuel pump was just replaced a few months ago. So it¿s probably not the cause either (confirmed by the complete check performed by BMW dealer service). If it¿s due to the control module as mentioned in another case 10715571, it¿s a terrible flaw that shall be investigated.
The contact owns a 2008 BMW 528i. The contact stated that the vehicle vibrated severely after shifting into drive and the power train was not operational. After the third attempt to operate the vehicle, it shifted into neutral independently and the "service vehicle, no power train was detected" warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 29,000.

I am experiencing an intermittent problem with the fuel supply system. After getting nowhere with the local dealership, I escalated the matter to BMW of north America, but they declined to assist. I feel they are not taking the matter seriously and my safety is at risk. I have had to take the car in for service repeatedly related to this problem: I drive the vehicle to work and leave it parked. When I come back to leave for lunch, the car won't start although the engine cranks and the battery is fine. The onboard system displays the same fuel supply warnings. After hours of repeated attempts (or up to a day later in one instance), the car does eventually start. (all of this can be confirmed independently. I took photos/videos to show the BMW technicians, and roadside assistance sent tow trucks. ) the first time it happened, the local BMW dealership attributed it to a faulty control module, said it was a "computer glitch" and claimed to fix it by reprogramming it. The second time they told me it was the same control module, but this time they replaced it with a new one. I asked the service advisor if it could be the fuel pump instead but he said they tested it and it was fine. The day after I picked up my car, the problem happened for the third time. The dealership contacted BMW of north America and was told to replace the fuel pump. I asked for an explanation but they couldn't provide one. I then contacted BMW of north America directly but they refused to inspect the car or even provide an explanation for the previous repair attempts. If the fuel supply problem is due either to the control module or the fuel pump, then these parts appear to be prone to failure even when new (in the case of the newly replaced control module) or tested as working fine (in the case of the fuel pump). If it is due to something else, then we should find out what it is.
I noticed a smell of fuel each time my wife parked her car inside our garage. Her car for due a service so I took the vehicle in for a full service. The mechanic called and asked if we had been smelling fuel inside or around the vehicle. He then explained that he suspected it was originating from underneath the rear seat. He later contacted me to explain that the plastic tube located on top of the in-tank electric fuel pump assembly had developed a crack and was allowing fuel to spray out on top of the assembly, which was allowing fuel and fumes to build-up in-and-around the vehicle. He recommended we replace it immediately due to safety concerns. When I went to pickup the vehicle, he showed me the crack in the fuel pump assembly, and explained that he had never seen one crack like that. Taking the vehicle in for maintenance and finding the problem with the fuel pump assembly at the time that we did, I believe, was a disaster avoided. We are planning a trip out of town, and will leave the vehicle in our garage for approximately 5 days. Our home gas (open flamed) hot water heater is located inside our garage. My wife often backed her car into our garage which placed the rear of the vehicle approximately 2 to 3 feet from the open flames of the hot water heater. I shutter to think what might have happened if we had left the vehicle with the leaking fuel and fumes, and open flames from the hot water heater shutup in our garage for 5 days. Not only would we have lost our car, but quite possibly our home.
