1 Engine Failure problem of the 2003 BMW 530

Failure Date: 06/05/2012

I was driving my 2003 BMW 530i, while I was driving I used the volume control on the steering wheel to turn the radio down, after depressing the button immediately I smelled and recognized there was smoke coming from the steering wheel. I pulled over, and turned the car off. After several minutes I turned the ignition and proceeded to inspect the car. The volume controls did not work any more along with the horn does not blow anymore. Actually when I depress the horn it makes the steering wheel rise up and down. The airbag light flickers off and on. My radio works sporadically. I called BMW of north America and asked about any recalls on this vehicle after seeing a posting online about airbag malfunctioning. This seemed to fit my situation however the gentlemen who took my called said there was no recalls on this model. . . . . This was disappointing and my problems arises more and more after this. I get a transmission failsafe warning almost all of the time because the car seems like it wants to cut off while driving at times. My brake lights flicker off and on at times and then stays on while driving. I got a warning ticket from an police officer. He said it is a safety hazard. My headlights flicker off and on at times while in operation. I get a engine failsafe warning at times and the car goes into limp mode. . . . . . .

2 Engine Failure problem of the 2004 BMW 530

Failure Date: 01/31/2010

2004 BMW 530i with only 54,000 miles (6 yrs of ownership) - on Sunday morning, my engine won't start on 1/31/2010 all of sudden. - called aaa for battery check and jump start but it was not a battery issue per aaa. - towed my car to my BMW dealer for check up - BMW dealer checked and told me my engine is dead and need to replace it with a new engine. It would cost $13,000 (this is ridiculous. ) - I told them it must be engine defect and check this for me and tell BMW hq - my dealer checked my maintenance record with them and they are trying help and find out what was the issue with the engine. They don't understand either. - dealer is still trying to find out why my engine died with a good maintenance record and only 54,000 miles (no flood involved) - dealer is trying to report to BMW hq with their finding if BMW hq is willing to help. No update from BMW dealer yet. Not sure if BMW hq is willing to help. - please kindly investigate this BMW engine failure defect issue because you don't expect to buy a car that can last only 54,000 miles (6 yrs). This is crazy! - my friend has 3 series BMW and he told me his engine stops multiple times almost everyday. BMW engine has a major issue.

Failure Date: 02/11/2008

The contact owns a 2002 BMW 530i. While driving 25 mph, the engine stalled without warning. There was a loss of power brakes and steering. The vehicle would not restart and was towed. The dealer stated that moisture accumulated in the engine and froze. Also, the internal valve became stuck, which caused the engine failure. The oil separator repair kit was replaced. The current and failure mileages were 60,142 . Updated 04/25/08.

4 Engine Failure problem of the 2003 BMW 530

Failure Date: 10/06/2003

The vehicle, at any given time or mode of operation (driving at speed or stopped), will display on the console the message engine failsafe prog and then the vehicle will stall. Once the vehicle initially stalls, the vehicle can usually be restarted immediately, but will soon stall again with the interval of time between stalls decreasing between successive stalls and restarts. If the vehicle is then allowed to 'rest' for atleast a day, it will run fine for a while (often several hundred miles), but will eventually start stalling again. First exhibitedthe problem at 600 miles, then 1200, 1700, ????. . . BMW has been unable to fix it.
