Presently this vehicle has 57,000 miles on it. It began having issues with a drivetrain malfunction warning back in 2021. Reported on complaint # 11427753. To date I have had to have fuel injectors replaced, a catalytic converter, the transfer case, two high pressure fuel pumps and an O2 sensor to resolve issues. Approximately $15,000. 00 in repairs over the last 20k miles. This particular engine is known to have issues with excessive oil consumption. I had the same issues with a 2012 BMW 550gt which at 102,000 miles I was forced to get rid of the vehicle as BMW told me the only way to fix the car was to replace the engine at a cost of $23,000.

BMW issues a customer care package regarding issues with the fuel injectors. I originally had to have #8 injector replaced. Shortly after leaving dealership the check engine light came on. To find out now that the catalytic converter on that side of the engine needed replaced ($3400) which they would not provide any assistance on, even though it was most likely caused by the excess fuel being passed through. The car had 38,558 miles on it at the time but was two months passed the 8 year warranty!!!! at 51,875 miles, problem had existed for several thousand miles. The dealership replaced the oxygen censor and a partial flush of the transfer case fluid. Did not resolve the problem, had to have transfer case replaced. $5400. It is currently in for repair as check engine light came on and car was showing a drive train malfunction alert. Using a code reader it was showing a failure of fuel injectors, 1, 2 and three. I can only imagine they are going to tell me that the catalytic converter on that side now needs replaced. Regardless of the age of the vehicle, a car with 54,000 miles on it should not require this level of repairs and failures !!.
Due to ongoing issues with the BMW n--63 engine which is known for excessive oil use! they claim that one quart per 750-1000 miles is normal ???car now stutters on acceleration, BMW serviced the vehicle, changing transfer case fluid ( all fluid was not able to be exchanged without removing the transfer case and that was not done )and recalibrated transfer box. Replaced O2 sensor as well. Repairs did not solve the issue, slight improvement but stuttering continues. Now they say that to resolve this the transfer case would need replaced !! this car has 52,000 miles on it! due to the failing fuel injectors the catalytic converter needed replaced at 44,000 miles at a cost of $3,000. 00. BMW will never admit to issues with their vehicles. I have owned 8 BMW's and have been through this with most of them!.
While at complete stop engine shut off with no warning lights on dash board. BMW dealer related they do not know what is wrong with engine.

Valve stem seal issue. Car burns excessive oil. More than a quart every several 100 miles. The issue seems to be consistent across this engine model number n62. My VIN number is wbaea5c59acv92776 and as a multiple BMW owner, I think BMW should recall and fix all Bmws with these issues that are appear to be a manufacturing defect.
The contact owns a 2008 BMW 650i. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph, there was smoke coming from under the hood. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled off the roadway and had the vehicle towed an independent mechanic. The independent mechanic diagnosed that the vehicle was leaking oil and the engine oil seals needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. Additionally, the vehicle had lost power while on the road causing the contact to have to pull off the road. The contact observed that the "engine malfunction" warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the engine failure had been ongoing. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 127,001.

While driving my car on highway 20 west my engine loss all power making my car slow completely down. I was in heavy traffic and I had to move over two lanes to get to the shoulder of the highway. Once my car stopped the car put its self in park and would not allow me to select any gear. Come to find out the turbo charger wen out in my car causing the car to act in this un safe manner. This is a reall safety issue that BMW has on these particular engines. This matter needs o be addressed with my car please.

We have almost died in this car twice. The first time in 2017, I was driving down a city street and noticed smoke coming out of the hood. Immediately pulled over, and opened the hood to find starter in flames. Called the fire department to extinguish the fire and the car spent a week in the shop getting "repaired". This past week, again while driving on a city street, I smelled what smelled like burning metal. Pulled over immediately and looked under the hood however nothing was there. Felt a slight burn on myself and discovered that my heated seat had burned a a half dollar size hole if not bigger into the seat and burned through my expensive jacket and a sweater! this car is unsafe. After doing some research, we learned that thousands of BMW's catch on fire every year. We spent money on a luxury vehicle for more safety and comfort, not a death trap. I am scared to drive this car and have not done so since the last fire (burned seat).
A few months ago the vehicle started to display "drive train malfunction" on the screen while shaking with a horrible odor of fuel. I took the vehicle in to the dealer and was told all of the fuel injectors needed to be replaced! we are talking about a $100k+ vehicle barely out of warranty. After battling with the dealer I was told BMW has agreed to fix the problem under warranty. When I went to pickup the car I was given an invoice for almost $500 for a deductible! fast forward to 06/06/2018, driving in heavy traffic and at a busy intersection I started to smell fuel again and I got a "fuel system malfunction" displayed on the screen and the car died and would not start again. I had the vehicle towed only to be told that now the vehicle needs an in tank fuel pump replaced! not a few months after having all the fuel injectors repaired. The cost of replacing the fuel pump over $1900 but with a discount it would be approximately $1550. 00 (who knows what the cost will be when I go to pick it up). After some research, I found out that this year and model vehicle is under a recall from BMW for all the same exact problems and symptoms I'm having with the fuel pump. However, they claim that my VIN is not a part of the recall and they will not assist in any way. This is a low millage car that is well maintained at all times. I think its time BMW expanded the recall on the fuel pump issue for this vehicle and corrected the problem their design and manufacturing has created before their neglegance costs someone their life when the vehicle stops on the highway or a busy intersection. It's time you did the right thing BMW north America. I have contacted my attorney and we will be sending notices to other BMW owners with the same problem to join a class action law suit. I can be reached at 303-809-1003.
While driving, the car will have a sudden shake, an immediate loss of power and the engine light comes on. The main radio screen displays a drivetrain malfunction, reduced power, immediate service. During this time the car has significant and sustained shaking and loses nearly all forward power. The car must come to an immediate stop and turned off. If you were passing or on a busy highway, this could likely lead to a car accident with no ability to avoid it since the car has little to no power. There are scores of complaints online about this for the 650i gran coupe. There are also youtube postings. The owners have posted that they cannot find the issue. Dealers have reprogrammed the ecu, replaced spark plugs, replaced coils, replaced fuel injectors and replaced fuel pumps. Even with this, the cars continue to have the same issue, which could easily cause an accident. Nhtsa, since BMW has repurchased dozens of BMW 650i gran coupe cars because of this, they are clearly aware of the fault. There are dozens and dozens of posts online and on youtube, this is a well known issue. Yet BMW does not have a single fix to resolve the issue. Please help us resolve this issue before someone gets killed or injured, unless someone else already has.
Vehicle engine (n63) loses power while in operation and goes into a drivetrain failure mode reducing enging power substantially. This is a recurring problem in the car. BMW is aware of the issue and has taken the car in to repair it 3 times. They recenly performed a customer care program to remediate the problem. But it occurred agian shortly after thet attempt. BMW made a ruling today, that they will not buyback my car nor offer any other remedy. I specifically want the NHTSA to make an official recall of this engine as it is not repaired after widespread failures for this specific engine.
