When it rains water comes into the drivers side from the roof (sun visor area), and under the dashboard. Depending on how much rain, it leaves a puddle on the floor mat, and constantly drips on the driver as I drive.

The front passenger door remained open as I was pulling out of my garage with my kid sitting in the front passenger seat. I thought he didn't close the door, but he was unable to close it. I got out of the car and it turns out the door wouldn't latch. There was no warning to the failure of the soft closing door mechanism. Just an alert that door is open. I had to drive it to the dealership the next day with rope securing the door to the pillar and the rear passenger door.
Sunroof unexpected exploded. No external interfaces (rocks or debris or weather) radio off sunscreen open sunroof closed. Speed was approximately 30 mph. Took car to dealership and was told sunroof don't just explode something had to hit it. They mentioned nothing about the issues with these sunroof, complaints or investigations that has done.

My 2020 BMW X5 is having the same issues as sib651222 based on the extensive troubleshooting that I have done with the telematics system. All of the exact symptoms can be found in this youtube video for an https://youtu. Be/z342dcegd5u?si=2cpl5vzzk4kl8gku.
On the date below, a warning banner and chime signaled that our car's emergency communication system was not functional. Soon after, we noticed that the navigation system was "lost"; ie, showing our car in a different state, sometimes in water, incorrect displays of speed limits being shown, etc. Vehicle was evaluated at a BMW dealership, and the primary defective part was found to be the "sharkfin" on the roof. Water entered the roof structure (not the interior of the car) via this sharkfin, and resulted in damage to the tcb, which reportedly controls many of the car's more-advanced electrical functions. Due to unfortunate clauses in warrantees on the car--both BMW certified pre-owned coverage, and also a 3rd party service contract that was purchased at the time of purchase, from the BMW dealer, as a bumper-to-bumper "platinum" supplement to the certified pre-owned warranty, are currently in effect for this car--this defect is not covered. Cost to repair all involvedf parts is approximately $5,000. As a consequence of this expense, it has not been repaired, and likely will not be in the near future. A google search about this issue yielded numerous identical incidents involving this same model/year of BMW. Several owners wondered if a recall was needed, since it is clearly a manufacturer defect with clear-cut and repeated ramifications, is very costly to repair (so is likely to not be repaired, in many instances), and is subject to a loophole in warranty coverage. My impression from this internet search is that other systems in the car might soon stop working. I believe it is a safety issue, now, given the failure of the emergency communication function controlled by the tcb, and might become more of an issue in the future, when/if additional functions fail.
The contact owns a 2019 BMW X5. The contact stated while having the vehicle washed, the technician became aware that the floor carpeting on the front driver’s side was wet and had mold and mildew. The vehicle was taken to the dealer that stated that the vehicle was experiencing the failure listed in TSB: sib 64 04 21; however, the vehicle was not covered under the service bulletin and advised to contact the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 59,000.

In a parking garage I found a open space and slowly moving towards that to park, car was approaching space at about 10 ft from that, all of a sudden car accelerated and lurched forward and hit the parking structure wall. Airbags deployed for all three of us, one of my colleagues was in passenger seat, another in the back seat. There was no warning on no time to react, this happens in seconds.

Front windshield trim panels gets loose from multiple places. I can hear wind noise inside the cabin clearly at speeds of 50 mph and higher. Its a known issue with 2019 BMW X5. Took it to dealer under warranty and decline to fix it.
Car was parked in fairly level spot with engine off, gear selector in park position, , key fob not near vehicle. Approx 30 minutes later, I returned to find vehicle approx 30 feet behind parking spot, having apparently drifted into another car in parking lot. No idea how car moved. I believe some electronic release of parking selector allowed car to roll.
I am getting a this message “passenger restraint system malfunction. A lot of people are getting the same message. I find out the reason for that is water is getting inside the car every time is raining from the passenger side and moisture buildup causing that. Every time I have to use a space heater to dry the car and is cleared it. But I am afraid the airbag not work properly if this keep happening and BMW is charging a lot of money this fix it after few months is came back again.

Rear tailgate suddenly flew open while driving at a speed of roughly 25 mph without any user input. Car was fully locked and at speed, trunk/tailgate release button was not pushed. The tailgate was fully closed and locked, and there were no warning lights or chimes indicating otherwise. This has only occurred once as of today and has not been able to be replicated, so it is not necessarily "available for inspection upon request". My safety, as well as others, were put at risk by this malfunction as our family dog is often transported in her crate that is located in the trunk, and if this malfunction had occurred while she was back there, her crate could have very easily fallen out of the car at high speed, undoubtedly leading to death. In this same instance, her crate falling out of the trunk at highway speeds, or really anything else being transported in the trunk, could have easily penetrated another car's windshield, resulting in injury or death of another vehicle's inhabitants. As previously stated, this problem has not been able to be reproduced by a dealer or independent service center at the time of this writing. The tailgate has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or any other parties. There were no warning lamps, messages, or any other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, nor have there been after the fact.
Passenger external front and rear door handle assembly caught on fire and melted the rubber grommet. BMW said it was the comfort sensor fuse that should have blown but it did not. The rubber grommet holding the door handle melted. I had to buy two door handles that cost $250 each to replace the ones that burnt out.
Moon roof - shattered while driving on free way . Glasses shattered & falling inside & outside car making scary experience.

Lower tailgate failed and caused me to dump a load of groceries on a busy highway. Vehicle was inspected and it was determined that a spindle connected to a motor had failed. The tailgate must be opened and closed manually now. There were no messages of failure or warning that the rear tailgate was unlocked when this grocery incident occurred. I am a member of a facebook forum related to this vehicle and many other owners whose vehicles were made in the same time frame have experienced this failure. The part has been on back order for a month.
Front passage door becomes unlocked/ not secure while driving my doors are set to auto-lock when I drive off. Today’s incident occurred when I hit a normal bump in the road. I heard a pop, which was the front passenger door unlocking. This jarred the door from the locked position to rattling in the door frame. The car’s auto lock issue is activated therefore, it’s trying to lock the door. Then car system reports a need to stop the car to prevent rolling as the doors are not secure. It goes without saying how dangerous this is. Searchers this issue in the internet. Seems some X5 owners reporting a issue with the door cables? saw no recall. My car is out of warranty but this is a serious safety issue BMW should address help! note, this bumpis located in the parking lot entrance to my office’s garage.
I own a 2013 BMW X5 with the soft-close door feature. On June 2, 2021, I was making a right-hand turn when the driver's door flew all the way open without warning. The door then slammed shut as I finished the turn, injuring my left wrist. It was determined that the soft-close door latch mechanism is failing and needs replaced. The soft-close latch does not consistently secure the driver's door. No warning was given by the vehicle to indicate the door is open or not latched properly. I informed Bmwna of the issue and they declined to offer any assistance with the repair, estimated to cost $900.

This is a new BMW X5 2 months old with 2000 miles. The vehicle was parked not running with no power in my garage. On Saturday morning it spontaneously combusted into flames. I happened to be near the garage and spotted the flames 4-5 feet tall shooting out from hood. I immediately ran inside to ensure my family was exiting the house and we called 911. I attempted to extinguish the flames with a hose while waiting on the fire dept. They arrived and extinguished and cut all electrical power to the vehicle and winched it out of my garage. Very upsetting and disturbing that the new vehicle randomly burst into flames while sitting in garage.
~tl - the contact owns a 2002 BMW X5. The contact stated that he did not secure the vehicle's hood latch when he put hood down. The contact then drove the vehicle at 35 mph, when the hood flung up. No warning lights illuminated. BMW of north liberty (525 madison Ave, north liberty, IA 52317) was contacted and made aware of the failure. The dealer informed that they could not come to a conclusive decision as to determine if the vehicle was equipped with the hood warning system. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the shocks inside the hood had ripped loose and the hood needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed that the rearview mirror would alert, if the hood was open and the complaint would be forwarded to their safety engineer, however since the vehicle was not taken to a certified BMW mechanic for routine maintenance, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 117,000. Tp.

2007 X5 4. 8 with panoramic sunroof, sunroof tray overflows and leaks into interior electrical, airbags, and carpet due to defective design/assembly (both when stationary and in motion). Sunroof drains both front and rear have drain tubes which are prone to kink and back up water into the sunroof tray, which then spills over onto the topside of the headliner and from there onto just about every electronic item in the car including air bags and controllers, lighting controls, and electrical boxes on the floor and trunk area. Some have reported arcs and car fires due to the water damage; BMW says it is a maintenance issue although has zero listed for sunroof maintenance, and no amount of cleaning is going to fix the sunroof drain lines that I found twisted. . . Likely been that way since initial assembly, but routing down inside the apillars makes it nearly impossible to get to try to fix it, much less see it. I can't believe this defect hasn't involved NHTSA recall since it can very easily lead to an in-use electrical fire at worst, or at best failure of airbags to deploy when needed due to water/corrosion issues, as well as thousands of dollars in electrical damage for each occurrence.

The care was off overnight in the garage unlocked. In the am, in the garage, there was a smell of burnt electronics. Noticed something on the behind the driver's door handle and the same thing dripped down the door and some on the floor. Looking closer at it, it appears that something overheated in the door handle and melted a hole in the backside of the handle which caused some melted material, plastic or rubber to spray on the door panel and drip down the door. I checked the fuse that corresponds to the door handle, specifically the comfort access feature and found the fuse to be blown. This all happened overnight with the car not running or otherwise occupied. I am concerned that this could have resulted in a fire and suspect that the fuse doing it's job prevented a fire from occuring.

I was driving my BMW X5 at approximately 9:30pm on interstate 93 going north in massachusetts, when I heard a explosion above my head. I immediately exited the highway to examine what had cause the explosion. When I examined the roof of the vehicle, I noticed a huge crater in the center of the sunroof with shards of glass covering most of the crater where the intact sunroof was located. I did not notice and object that might have cause the explosion, no ice- it is winter in massachusetts, no rocks that might have impacted the sunroof to cause the explosion, the only thing that was visible to me were broken glass. Prior to this event, I had no reason to be concerned that there was something wrong with the sunroof, I had never heard any sounds coming from the sunroof and I never heard or saw a rock, piece if metal or any other object impacting the roof or sunroof.
The vehicle started to collect water without my knowledge in the car. It was only until a unnoticeable noise came from the rear of the car. I inspected it and the rear area was soaked with water. So BMW thinks it is a good idea to store alot of electronic equipment in the rear were the water was. They first claimed that it was possibly clogged drains and that if they were clogged, that nothing would be covered under warranty because it was "an outside force". After the inspection, they tell me that a leak was discovered and that it was fixed. But nothing was covered under warranty because water got into the car. They had the same problem with older models and due to it being a bad design of the car, refused to acknowledge that it was their problem. I read that there was a settlement back in 2010 area and that they were found liable. The car has not changed since then and they are still using the flawed car design in the X5. I was told that to avoid further leaks, that I should not park it anywhere near trees or bushes and preferably inside. A car in the 21st century should not have to be kept inside to prevent leaks from occurring. A lot of people dont have the privilege to keep their car in a garage 24/7. Some people have to use their cars on a daily basis.
The panoramic sunroof shattered after closing the driver door from the inside. The car had been sitting in the middle of a parking lot.
While driving one rainy afternoon on a city road, I noticed smoke coming from under the hood. The smoke turned into flames. I pulled over and called 911. An off duty police officer stopped and had a fire extinguisher. He was able to put out most of the fire until the fire department showed up and finished the job. The firemen thought that the fire started in the air bag control module. The BMW dealer said that the fire started in the wiper motor. The car was at the dealer the previous week for the air bag recall.
Sunroof motor shorted and killed battery at 45,000 miles. Caused drivetrain malfunction. Door molding on rear drivers side door separating. Fuel injectors failed (cylinder 4 and 6) causing drive train malfunction at 55,000. Miles.
While driving on the I-15 south near camino del norte, my car caught on fire. The fire came from the inside, back, drivers side from the electrical components! as I entered the 15 a few miles before, I noticed all of the preset stations weren't working and then the car gave an air bag warning. After the airbag warning, there was a parking brake warning. That is when I pulled over, grabbed my purse, and noticed the car was on fire. I called 9-1-1. The fire department came and put the fire out.
Vehicle was stopped and in park. Passenger was in front seat. Driver locked vehicle prematurely while outside. Passenger was unable to exit vehicle. Attempted to unlock vehicle with key fob but would not respond. Passenger pushed lock/unlock buttons in vehicle with no response. Driver reentered vehicle to try to help. Unable to help and driver's door would not open. Opened window and had to use key to unlock drivers door. Rolled down window on passenger door and after pulling up on manual lock and pulling handle multiple times the door finally opened freeing passenger. All doors on vehicle were locked and unable to open from inside or outside. Only drivers door was able to open with key. Door latch assembly front right with actuator motor failure causing central locking system fuse to blow. Repair invoice attached.
The contact owns a 2011 BMW X5. The contact stated that the vehicle would not accelerate past 40 mph and the instrument panel gauges suddenly stopped operating. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who discovered that water drained into the rear hatch area and damaged several electrical components, including the electronic control module. The battery and other electrical components were submerged in water. The independent mechanic diagnosed that the driver's side drainage tube had become damaged, causing the water to drain into the hatch area. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recently occurred to the passenger side drainage tube. The manufacturer and local dealer (BMW of ramsey, 985 NJ-17, ramsey, NJ 07446) were notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 62,000.
