My brake vacuum pump is leaking fluid in the same manner described under recall campaign 13v-045, but the recall was apparently not applied to my vehicle. Apparently this presents safety issues while braking. It was identified yesterday, but I'm not sure how long it has been an issue.

May 10, 2017 we purchased a 2010 BMW X5 with approx 70kmiles from east providence auto for $16,000. Two days later we brought the vehicle back because the windshield wiper fluid leaked onto the driver side floor, the sunroof wouldn't close and a burning oil smell was coming from the inside of the vehicle. After inspecting, the mechanic said the hose from the windshield wiper tank was needed replacement, he unjammed the sunroof and added 2 quarts of oil; however, he couldn't fix anything. May 22 we returned b/c the oil light was on and the burning oil smell still existed. But the garage was locked. The salesman said we would have to come back. May 24 we returned after blue smoke was coming from the exhaust. The mechanic said the owner was in portugal for two weeks and he couldn't work on the vehicle without permission. After returning and calling many times over the next month we met with the owner who said his mechanic left, we would have to wait. July 3 we had the vehicle independently inspected (see attached report). He inspected the engine and drained the oil. He recommended the engine be removed for further diagnosis and if not resolved the engine will eventually need to be replaced. After returning to ep auto the owner said the 30 day warranty was up so we filed a complaint with the rhode island dealers license and regulations office (complaint number am-1702213). We are awaiting a response from the hearing board. The case manager advised that it's impossible to force ep auto to take the vehicle back because we have to prove the issues are pre-existing and she is anticipating the hearing board will not rule in our favor. At this point we are extremely reluctant to drive the vehicle due to the safety concerns. I recently received a recall notice from you alleging defective airbags made by takata. Please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your help.

Incident occurred on 3/14/2016 at the intersection of e lake forest dr/ mimosa wy during driving. Complete brake failure during driving while turning corner from tire wearing against passenger front brake line. Almost caused serious auto accident. Inquired with dealer when purchasing replacement parts that there was a known recall for this incident and dealer did not know process for ntsa recalls. Owner paid for replacement parts as dealer/manufacturer was unwilling to fix. Can provide receipts. Report receipt date: Jan 09, 2003 NHTSA campaign number: 03v001000 component(s): service brakes, hydraulic all products associated with this recall expand details close 10 associated documents expand manufacturer: bayerische motoren werke summary: on certain sport utility vehicles, it may be possible for the front brake line to slip out of the retaining bracket located at the front strut. The brake hose that is attached to the brake line could come in contact with the tire and be subjected to wear and abrasion. Consequence: this could initially cause some brake fluid leakage, and eventually lead to a substantial loss of brake fluid. There could be a noticeable reduction in brake performance if a loss of front brake performance occurs. Remedy: dealers will install an additional retaining clip to further secure the brake line to the front strut. Additionally, if inspection of any brake hose indicates that it has experienced damage, the hose will be replaced. Owner notification began February 14, 2003. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact BMW at 1-800-831-1117. Notes: customers can also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).

BMW X5 2009 4. 8is (v8). Brake master cylinder and brake booster failed causing sudden and unexpected loss of braking while driving. No in dash alerts or diagnosis shown before or after the incident. Braking fault was permanent not intermittent. Vehicle is under BMW warranty. Upon inspection, BMW technicians have advised brake master leaked fluid into booster and that they found oil contamination in the master cylinder. This sudden braking failure could have resulted in serious damage and fatalities. (previously experienced auto hold parking brake failure which was not fixed for over a year due to backordered parts. ) following the technical diagnosis, BMW is yet to respond to driver.

On August 8th 2013 while we were on vacation in northern NY, the vehicle braking system failed -¿ pedal to the floor with very minimal braking function. This is a huge concern in any area, but we were in a mountainous region of NY and this could have ended very very bad. Luckily it didn't. I called the closest BMW (keeler) dealer and spoke with a service representative. I noted the year and model and explained the symptoms. The service representative knew immediately what it was. He had me check under the driver's side of the vehicle for a brake line leak. Sure enough he was correct; brake fluid was dripping from the cover under the driver's floor. He made note that they see this very frequently in their service group. They had another X5 in the shop for the same problem and because that owner was a "local", keeler used their parts for our vehicle. Very concerning is the fact that a month earlier, we had a nys inspection and the corroded brake lines went unnoticed. When we returned home, I spoke to the BMW of rochester service guys about this. To my surprise, they confirmed that they to see this corroded brake line problem on a regular basis. I paid $2106. 57 for a problem that your service teams see on a regular basis, yet nothing has ever been mentioned to me and the vehicle passed the nys safety inspection a month earlier. I worked with BMW of rochester service and discussed my concerns regarding the brake failure. BMW extended a good faith offer of $2000. 00 towards a new vehicle. This appears to be a common problem that the BMW service shops see frequently. It rendered the vehicle unsafe to drive and should have been discovered with a proper safety inspection. Best regards.
