Over the last 2 years, I have taken m 2022 BMW X5 45e to authorized BMW dealer to have my air conditioning fixed but they have not been able to do so after 4 or 5 attempts. Coolant was replaced, hose was replaced, compressor was replaced. Without air conditioner the temperature inside the car, especially during summer, goes over 90 deg f that it is causing heat stroke, dehydration and potential for black out. This can cause fatal accident. The alternate to which is not to drive the car, which is not a viable solution after having paid for the car so that we can drive it when necessary.

My backup camera is so dim at night I cannot see many obstacles. The dealer adjusted the camera to maximum brightness, but it's still so dim that I cannot see pedestrians wearing dark clothing and other obstacles behind me. Only the acoustic warning has prevented me from hitting an object or running into a person. I have talked to many other owners of this year BMW X5, and all of them have a similar complaint. The dealer adjusted the camera to its maximum night-time brightness but to no avail. The dealer then told me BMW designed the camera to be hard to see at night. I have normal night vision, as confirmed at my yearly vision exam by a licensed ophthalmologist, so I find it dubious that BMW would make their backup camera too dark to use at night. I found that shinning a bright light at the lower-left area of the instrument binacle causes the backup camera image to become much brighter and solves the visibility problem. Therefore, I think there is a BMW sw problem that dims the rearview camera too much when it believes it is night time.

When driving down the highway at 65 mph there was a loud bang and wind started blowing through the roof. Small shards of glass came through the moon roof. I pulled over at the next exit and stopped. I looked at the moon roof and it had exploded. At the time of the incident the moon roof was closed. It was daylight and I was not near an overpass, so no one could have thrown a rock to cause the damage. The moon roof clearly failed for no apparent reason. I was fortunate that the moon roof was closed because the vinyl part of the moon roof prevented all of the glass from falling into the car while I was driving. I have looked on line and there are several, perhaps many, such instances reported. BMW seems to be unaware of this issue.

I was turning right into a parking space when the vehicle suddenly accelerated and did not stop when I removed my foot from the accelerator and tried to brake. The car continued to accelerate through a low cinder block wall and did not stop until it dropped 3-4 feet off the side of the parking lot into the sidewalk/street. Fortunately I was not hurt and there were no pedestrians or vehicles in the roadway, but my car was deemed a total loss. The collision warning didn’t come in, and airbags did not deploy. I reported the incident to BMW namerica, who sent an inspection team to the collision center. After 7 weeks I was told that the vehicle data recorder captured ‘an incident” but did not record any information to verify that I attempted to brake, or to otherwise provide details of the incident. I was told the inspection found no mechanical issues and the all weather floor mat (installed by the BMW dealer) was installed incorrectly and must have gotten stuck on the accelerator. Furthermore, I was told that although the mat was a BMW product, it was installed by the dealer so the manufacturer was not responsible. BMW offered me a small goodwill settlement provided I sign a non disclosure agreement, which I declined to do. I’m reporting this to ensure you have a record should you receive similar reports from others. I received no written communication from BMW detailing the safety investigation.
My engine starter failed at 43234 miles and left stranded at traffic light. When the traffic light turned green. It would not start again. I took it to the dealership and they replaced the starter.
On 06-02-2024, at approximately 1430 hours, I was stopped in traffic, because of a red traffic light and I was the last vehicle in line. In less than a minute later, I was hit by another vehicle. The other vehicle left approximately 183' of skid marks on the road and I determined that vehicle was traveling at approximately 60 mph, before it hit me, when I was stopped in traffic. The damage was moderate. I have the executive package on my BMW X5, which has a 4 way camera system, that records an incident, when an impact occurs. After the impact, the camera system is to record 20 seconds before the impact, as well as 20 seconds after the impact. I was not sure how to retrieve the video, so I had to call BMW genius and the employee had to walk me thru the steps to retrieve the video. The camera system was set up for automatic recording, as well as manual recording, but no video of the accident was ever recorded. The only video that was recorded and saved, was from January 13, 2024, when I was showing my wife, how to manually record something. According to the person who hit me, he said "I could not stop, because I had a bad wheel" and that person also included that statement in the accident report. Since the accident, I sustained lower left back pain, left hip pain and upper left leg pain in the muscles. According to my x-ray images of my left hip, the head of the femur bone is flattened, due to the impact sustained following the collision. According to my doctor, I have bone spurs, which causes me pain when standing, walking, sitting and complete hip replacement is now required, to eliminate my pain. My lawyer suggested that I file a complaint with the NHTSA, because the camera system should have recorded the collision and that would have given us a clear view and understanding, on what the other driver was doing before the collision. BMW is at fault for the camera system, which did not record the accident, when it was set up for automatic and manual.
On June 1, 2024, I was driving on the highway at about 70 mph, when all of a sudden there was a loud boom and the glass on the panoramic sunroof blew out. Was not close to other vehicles, nor did I hear any impact from any object. Immediately drove my car to the local dealership. Dealership indicated it was not a known issue that they have seen and said it was outside influence that caused the issue. However, the glass was pointed upward and the glass exploded outward. Fortunately, I had my sunroof cover in the closed position so none of the glass dropped on me, but it could have been harmful to me, causing me to get into an accident. No vehicle warnings appeared just before the explosion.
Instrument panel went blank while driving on interstate. This happened 4 times. Had to reboot vehicle computer/idrive to restore instrument cluster. BMW reloaded software but still occurred 3 times after reload but problem is intermittent.

Since October 2023, the BMW vehicles of the 2010-2012 1 series, 3 series, 5 series, x3 sav, X5 sav, x6 sac, and z4 have an open recall. According to their own acknowledgment, this recall poses a safety risk to the passengers of the vehicle. I am the owner of a BMW X5, and after several emails expressing my fear of using my car, and pointing out that in its current state, the vehicle cannot be sold. Additionally, it has caused me difficulties as I've had to use uber and rely on my husband for transportation when he's not working. The only response I received was a phone call informing me that they are trying to find a solution. However, they suggested that if I detect a burning smell or experience any unusual symptoms while using the vehicle, I should take it for a diagnostic check. After that, they would order the necessary parts for the repair. In other words, they have a solution, but they seem to be waiting for something bad to happen before implementing the repair.

I own a 2010 BMW X5 xdrive30i (VIN: 5uxfe4c52al277208) with two active recalls: the vanos bolt recall (23v-707) and the pcv valve heater recall (22v-119). Despite these being federally mandated safety repairs, sharpe BMW in grand rapids, mi refused to perform the work without a paid diagnostic and potential full repair payment upfront, stating reimbursement would be decided afterward. I was sent home in an unsafe, recalled vehicle that visibly and audibly shakes at startup and frequently stalls. Other engine components have now failed due to the vanos issue and the vehicle is now inoperable. BMW na has acknowledged contact, but has only redirected me back to the same dealer without offering resolution. This has created financial hardship and an ongoing safety concern.
Drivetrain failure reported on dash. Car stutter during drive but continued without any breakdown.
When the car is coming to a stop the drivers floor mat slides on top of the gas pedal. Also when driving, general movement of your foot on the mat causes it to slide forward freely with and restriction. The velcro that attaches to the mat falls off and the mat is free moving. It is a common concern among other BMW X5 owners in online forums. The dealership refuses to assist. Thank you.

On November 9, 2023, I was driving out of town to visit a friend. I had been on the road for 1. 5 hours and driven approximately 100 miles. When the vehicle approached a stop sign and came to a stop, the auto stop function turned the engine off. When it was my turn to proceed, I disengaged the brake, but the vehicle's auto start function failed to turn on the engine. I put the car in park and pushed the start button once. In doing so, the car attempted to restart itself multiple times, without success. I could hear the vehicle "cranking", but the car never started. Shortly thereafter, the cranking sound stopped, and white smoke filled the cabin through the air vents. It smelled like burning plastic. I grabbed my belongings and evacuated the area. Once outside of the vehicle, I could see white smoke bellowing out from underneath the vehicle. There were no warning messages or any other issues prior to the failure. The car was towed over 100 miles to the dealership where they confirmed an internal short circuit caused the starter to fail. The dealership replaced the starter. I do see there is a recall for the starter. However, I believe my issue is different. The vehicle failed to restart due to the recently identified programming issue, causing the starter to malfunction. The starter failure was not due to excessive attempts to start the vehicle, as I only pushed the start button one time.
Hvac. Misty and mold smell from ac vent. Health concerns f or people with aasthma and respiratory health issues. All BMW of this year has this issue. Took it to dealer and got evporater cleaned vut smaell returns again in 2 months. Evaporator leak is very common. Most owners have had this issue fixed and repaired at $7k cost of out of warranty. BMW dealer ship admits issue with this year of BMW but declines to fix it for free. BMW itself ignores all the conversations bout it.
Water pump I went to 2 BMW dealerships, buffalo and PA, for repair and neither could diagnose and repair. I went to local repair shop and they changed water pump. I would like to be reimbursed for this recalled repair. Please advise.

My 2024 BMW caught on fire while I was driving it. A couple weeks prior my dashboard went out but resolved on its own in 24 hours. Before the fire I had no other issues with my vehicle. My insurance company was notified the night of the incident. However they didn’t start the investigation for 2 weeks until after I called to get an update. I then contacted BMW who has now started an investigation alongside my insurance company.
Drivetrain - a drivetrain malfunction message came-up a few weeks back on the high-way indicating “it is safe to drive but with reduced power” and the vehicle suddenly slowed down on the highway with less power to drive putting us in unsafe condition. The vehicle has less than 25,000 miles. The incident was reported to a BMW dealer for reporting to BMW and with a request for investigation and fixing prior to warranty expiration. Unknown - after a long drive (some times after a short drive) when the vehicle (phev) is parked and plugged-in, a loud noise can be heard. The noise goes away once its unplugged and locked. The incident was reported to a BMW dealer for reporting to BMW and with a request for investigation and fixing prior to warranty expiration.
The software that controls the lock/unlock and side mirror deployment does not function correctly all the time. This is a serious issue when backing up and when changing lanes on the highway. This has occurred on numerous occasions and I have taken pictures where I had to pull over to record. If I exit the vehicle (after turning off the engine (automatically when no person is detected in the driver seat) and close the door, press the key fob to lock the car and then unlock they deploy/ though sometimes only one will deploy and I need to lock/unlock the vehicle a second time. I have notified BMW of the issue but haven't recieved any feedback.
I was driving on a road, the road was clear. No bridges, no underpasses & my sunroof exploded startling me. I looked around thinking my car was shot at, noticing all my windows were fine. I heard glass falling and noticed it was my sunroof.
Today, we experienced a some kind of sudden stop in a normal speed driving. Red alert car symbol flashed on our dashboard. It is without stepping on a break but it’s like our car is braking or like abrupt stopping. No car or any object that may hinder in front of us. It was scary coz there’s car behind us in a good speed. I don’t feel like it’s safe for what we had experienced today. Please try to look at it before anything like this scenario to happen again. I am and anyone else is into safety that’s why we choose this vehicle.
Good morning, I was driving down the road at around 60 mph in my car. Abruptly my car had simultaneous warning lights about 12 of them. More importantly, I lost my power steering and brake by wire putting all of our lives at risk. The speedometer , air bags, restraint systems all failed and went out. The car wouldn't turn off on the side of the road and after about 5 minutes I was able to get it off and called BMW assist for a tow. Since it was night and raining I and waiting for a tow truck was dangerous I attempted to restart my car and get successfully got it to the nearest exit. All the warning lights were off. About 15 minutes later on the limp home the same thing happened with all the fault codes so my family decided to uber home. I took the car to BMW rockville and they did diagnostics and we're not able to replicate the problem. They returned my car back to me the same day with no repairs. I'm concerned. There was no indication or warning lights before the electrical failure. It was completely out of the blue.
We have started noticing a burning smell whenever the vehicle is plugged into a charging station. At first we thought it was due to the charger, but the issue continued after we replaced the charging unit. Further, we also tried charging the unit at another station and experienced the same issue. This can be a potential fire risk and we'd like to get the matter resolved at the earliest. We have not seen this same issue with the 2023 version of the X5 hybrid.
The egr cooler went bad when my car's mileage is at 113,254. BMW have an active recall for egr cooler https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/rcl/2021/rcak-21v907-9336. Pdf. However, it only covers 2014-2017 BMW X5 xdrive35d. I have a 2013 BMW X5 xdrive35d, which has the same n57t engine as the 2014 BMW X5 xdrive35d model. The engine light was on. I brought it to the BMW of fairfax dealership to check. They told me that it is unsafe to drive the car if the egr cooler is not replaced.

Dealer service finally diagnosed ac refrigerant leak through evaporator on a vehicle less than 40,000 miles and just over 4 years. The symptom (hissing sound from vent) has started before 30,000 miles or 3 years, but dealer service indicated it is just a fan noise. Unsafe to drive in 90 degf+ weather without an ac.
BMW of north America is hiding problems with brand new vehicles. I received a warning light and checked with my obdii reader that the diesel exhaust fluid transfer pump had a implausible reading and was not working. This is a key part of the selective catalytic reduction (scr) system, part of the emissions control system, and will make the vehicle fault to the point where it will lock the car from being driven (no start condition).

More than one time I have been traveling at regular speed and the vehicle will suddenly power off and shift into park. While I’m driving, the battery still has power but the engine shuts off. I am suddenly stopped in the middle of the highway, turning in an intersection, going up a incline. I then try to start the vehicle and it will not turn over. The car remains stuck in park. Eventually the battery wears down and will not even engage the starter. But the lights and flashers will still be on. I have taken the car in multiple times to the BMW dealership telling them of the situation and they tell me it is not showing any problem. The vehicle does not give any warning and there are no engine or warning lights that appear. This happens at any time of day. There are constant complaints of these issues happening with multiple models of BMW.

The dealer performed the egr cooler recall in Feb 2023, a month later and the part failed again. BMW should be required to issue a lifetime warranty on these defective parts that have now been recalled twice.
I have a recall notice for an egr cooler in my 2015 BMW X5 diesel. At first there was no part available, for at least a year. Now a part has been available since September 2022. I sold the vehicle to my son in roanoke, va in September 2022. His dealer claims he can't get the part. This is a safety issue. My original dealer in California had the part, but is telling my son he no longer has a part and in order to get a part from the warehouse, my son's roanoke dealer has to be part of the penske auto system. The roanoke, va dealer was sold around September 2022 and has been totally inept, can't get the part, made some other repair which was incorrect and now my son is driving a safety defective vehicle. This may not be the proper place to make a report, however the recall notice says to make a report, gives a website and says I can get information at the website, but not true. Additionally, the printed phone number does not work.
The active and passive safety systems would disable themselves and I would get the following errors from the vehicle. 1. Rear differential lock 2. Four-wheel drive system 3. Chassis stabilization 4. Drivetrain malfunction 5. Reduced driver assistance 6. Traction control reduced or off 7. Dynamic stability control 8. Dynamic traction control when these errors came up on the multimedia screen it would say that it was ok to continue to drive and to call and make a service appointment, no need for BMW roadside assistance. The following systems would be affected or turned off automatically. 1. Lane keep/lane departure assist 2. Blind spot monitoring 3. Cruise control 4. Forward collision warning/braking 5. Pedestrian warning/mitigation 6. Auto hold 7. Auto high beam assistant 8. Remote start 9. Side collision avoidance 10. Intelligent safety 11. Drive recorder 12. Back-up assistance 13. Auto park assistance 14. Active protection 15. Dynamic stability control 16. Dynamic traction control 17. Hill descent control 18. Speed limit information 19. Speed limit assistance 20. Park distance control 21. Cross traffic warning the warnings for these systems could come on right after starting the vehicle or anytime you are driving. What happens when the above systems are not working properly is the car can and will cut the throttle, that can be a temporary event or during the entire drive. It has happened to me where the throttle pedal and throttle response was working as normal then getting onto the freeway the systems went crazy and the gas pedal stopped working. So either the car comes to a stop or you stop the car. When stopped you have to put the vehicle in park, turn it off, turn it back on and put into drive and hope this resolves the issue so you can continue to drive. Sometimes it works and everything will be fine the rest of the drive, other times it doesn’t.
During the past raining season, car battery compartment flooded creating a fire/electrical hazard during operation and addition total malfunction of instruments, lighting, warning systems in general, airbags, rendering the vehicle useless. The issue is well documented online by various owners, BMW stop assisting owners of vehicles that have the same issue of flooding. Please assist with any possible help to resolve the problem(s) of the vehicle 2013 BMW X5.
The sunroof spontaneously exploded, putting all occupants of the vehicle in danger of injury from the glass and/or collision as a result of the sunroof spontaneously exploding. As there have been several class action lawsuits filed against BMW over the past decade for similar issues, it is clear that the sunroof is defective in design, manufacturing, materials and/or workmanship. Furthermore, BMW has exhibited negligence as BMW has a knowledge of the defect in the sunroofs and never disclosed to owners or lessees that the defect exists or that drivers and occupants of the vehicles are at risk and that vehicles equipped with the sunroofs expose drivers and passengers to a risk of sudden explosion or shattering. This is a gross deviation from the duty of ordinary care owed to consumers.
I purchased the vehicle in Feb 2022. I received a call from my dealer about the recall last week, they said they would perform the repair on 01/26/23. I picked the vehicle up the next day without them having performed the repair because the VIN still shows "remedy not available". The dealer did not even assess the safety issue when the car was brought in. I do not know if the car is safe to drive. Neither the dealer nor BMW have set expectations for when the recall is to be performed. What do I do next?.
