4 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 BMW X5

Failure Date: 02/13/2019

Bww has an ongoing problem with its seat sensor mat. These sensors are critical to the safety of the front passenger in the event of an accident. BMW has only issued recalls for select model of its vehicle on this particular issue. It has failed to acknowledge that it is a widespread problem affecting all of its vehicles across years and models. I believe that the government should act to force BMW to take responsibility for its defective product. Human lives are being put in danger. Thank you.

5 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2010 BMW X5

Failure Date: 02/06/2019

Front passenger seat mat sensor faulty leaving the front passenger without airbag protection. I'll install a bypass device because they are common and inexpensive and available because so many Bmws have this issue. The bypass device will allow the passenger airbags to deploy whether a passenger is in the seat or not. The years 2006 and 2007 saw recall on the passenger seat sensor. This needs to be addressed.

6 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2009 BMW X5

Failure Date: 09/02/2018

I stopped at a drive thru window and the vehicle shut off without warning. I couldn't get it started and the police tried to put in neutral to move it out of the way. No lights or anything indicated that something was wrong. I have only had the vehicle for 4 days. The airbag restraint light is on and waiting for the sensor. Not sure if this is a recall. It was towed to a shop and then it started when getting it off the tow truck. I don't trust driving it now because it can go out while I'm on the freeway or highway and cause a major accident. There are no reports because I was at a drive thru and just tried to get it out of the way. We had the latest recall done on 08/31/2018.

9 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2009 BMW X5

Failure Date: 01/02/2018

Passenger seat air bag sensor mat failure.

10 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2012 BMW X5

Failure Date: 10/01/2017

The sensor (to detect if someone is sitting in the seat) under the front passenger seat is not working properly and requires the seat belt to be activated to silence the warning beeps, even when the passenger seat is not occupied, so it's clearly not functioning as intended. Leads me to question whether the airbag will deploy in the event of an accident. The same issue happened for several years with our 2007 BMW 530 and that was finally acknowledged by BMW and we were offered a free repair for this item. Keep waiting on them to include our X5. It's been several years.

11 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2009 BMW X5

Failure Date: 07/19/2017

Front passenger occupancy sensor has permanent failure. "passenger airbag disabled" light continuously illuminated at all times, with audible noise notifying that a passenger is present and must secure seat belt. Occurs when no passenger is present. In order to drive the vehicle with driver only, the passenger seat belt must be falsely deployed/secured. Reference: NHTSA campaign number: 13v564000.

12 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 BMW X5

Failure Date: 06/14/2017

The auto is unsafe to drive the steering sensor keeps malfunctioning and puts car in limp mode. Happened 7 times in one day, car in limp mode does not have enough power to get out of traffic . Making a left turn in heavy traffic it malfunctioned and traffic behind me came extremely close to collision because car lost 99% of power. Car has active recalls very old now BMW says tey have no parts to repair. This car has 37,186 miles on it , making the operating cost over $2. 00 a mile not including gasoline or maintainence. To reset malfuntioning sensor the battery is disconected to reboot the engine controlls reconected restart then turn hard left and then hard right, normal driving is resumed on this unit it only works untill you slow for traffic or to make a turn making the car and traffic around it extemely unsafe as the auto has sudden power loss. The recalls on auto are old and again BMW say no replacement parts. Phone messages to servicing dealer are unanswered and where I live ther is no dealer. My own search on the internet revealed all 5 series BMW have complaints of this malfunction. I am a cancer patient and using this vehicle to travel to treatments is going to kill me before the cancer. And maybe other innocent people too. I feel that BMW looking in to it is not enough action ntsb should take immediate action and BMW should be made liable for all repairs and responcible for the transportation of affected autos to a repair center as the autos are in fact unsafe to operate.

14 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 BMW X5

Failure Date: 11/15/2016

My vehicle / VIN should be included in the recall campaign no. 13v-564: "front passenger air bag seat occupancy sensor mat. " my vehicle is part of the model year 2006 X5 sav's that has the defect. But my VIN is not being recognized in the recall and is experiencing the exact defect. The air bag warning lamp on the instrument cluster and the front "passenger air bag off" lamp in the overhead console are illuminated at the same time. The sensor has become damaged over time due to the frequency of front passenger seat usage. BMW ag has decided that the defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in the model year 2006 X5's. When I contacted BMW USA they told me my vehicle was part of the recall but they had the last digit in my VIN as a "2" instead of a "3". The rest of the VIN was the same. The VIN with the last digit as a "2" was the exact model as my vehicle (year, color, inside and out, and equipment). But for some reason my VIN is missing from the recall. Why is my VIN not part of the recall if it is the same vehicle (year and model) as others that are part of the recall? how do I have my vehicle / VIN added to the recall campaign no. 13v-564?.

15 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2011 BMW X5

Failure Date: 09/28/2016

The passenger occupancy sensor is defective and chimes continuously when unoccupied. The only way to disarm the chime is to buckle the passenger seat belt which activates the passenger airbags. Since this vehicle currently has several airbag recalls on it, the defective occupancy sensor creates a dangerous situation for myself and other owners of this same make and model.

16 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 BMW X5

Failure Date: 11/05/2015

17 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 BMW X5

Failure Date: 02/02/2015

Front passenger seat airbag sensor failure.

18 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 BMW X5

Failure Date: 01/09/2015

BMW passenger seat airbag/seat restraint system has a malfunction. The system says there is a problem with the passenger seat and/or airbag restraint system or seatbelt or belt tensioners. There is a red light on the dash indicating failure of the system. This light comes and goes. Sometimes the light comes on even when no one is in the seat. I've googled this and it seems a lot of people are having the same issue with this. I'm not sure if the airbag is really effected or if it is a sensor malfunction. I see there are similar complaints listed here for this same issue.

19 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 BMW X5

Failure Date: 06/27/2014

Traveling on expressway at approx 60 mph collided with a vehicle hitting him on rear. I sustained injury to my chest as a result of impact against the steering wheel because the airbag didn't deploy. I learned that BMW has recalled airbags on several models and believe the 2008 X5s should be included in the recall. My vehicle is at a collision center but I can make it available in case NHTSA experts would like to investigate if airbag sensors are working properly on this model. If indeed the airbags on the 2008 BMW x 5s are not working properly, I'd like for the manufacturer to create public awareness to prevent any serious injuries and/or fatalities from hapenning.

20 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 BMW X5

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

In January of 2014, I received a letter telling me that my vehicle needed the front passenger seat air bag sensor mat fixed. They went on to say that they would let me know when the parts came in. Next, in June of 2014, they sent me a letter that the parts are in and to schedule the work. I have now taken my vehicle back multiple times and they are saying that they still don't have the parts. I have called BMW corporate and no one will help me get this problem fixed. . . They just keep giving me the run around. . .

21 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 BMW X5

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

We received an important safety recall from BMW in June 2016 that we needed to replace the passenger side front air bag immediately as the air bag does not work as part of the "recall campaign no. 13v-564: front passenger air bag seat occupancy sensor mat. " we immediately contacted the perillo BMW dealership in chicago (1035 north clark street, chicago, IL 60610, (312) 981-0000) where we purchased the car. Over the following six months, we called monthly to inquire about whether they had the replacement seat to fix the car. Perillo actually had us bring the car in two separate times only to tell us each time that they didn't have the part needed for our type of repair. We happened to have the worst possible outcome where the sensor mat is broken and the air bag is disabled on the passenger side of the vehicle. The condition of the car makes it very dangerous for anyone to sit in the front passenger seat. We live in chicago and therefore drive on highways and in heavy traffic frequently. I am now pregnant with our second child so we absolutely have to have this fixed before the new baby comes in April 2015. Since we last brought the car in this fall, we have called perillo non stop to inquire and each time they say they don't have the part. It is not only a terrible customer service experience but it puts our family at risk every time we drive the car. Perillo remains unhelpful and unresponsive so we are filing a report nationally.

22 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 BMW X5

Failure Date: 06/01/2014

Passenger seat air bag sensor recalled several years ago by BMW. Was told that I would be advised when parts are available. To date BMW has not made the parts available to the dealerships so the problem cannot be corrected. This has been close to two years.

23 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 BMW X5

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

Air bag signal and seat belt warning were lit on the dash, even after the passengar was out of the car. The seat belt warning chimes when passengar leaves, took it to a mechanic and he told me that the sensor needs to be replaced. Took it to BMW on 06/10/2014 they told me, there were no recalls for my car due to my VIN. Considering the fact that other vehicles are having the same problems, and are being repaired, this is very dissapointing that my car can not be fixed, when this is a potentially dangroues situation.

24 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 BMW X5

Failure Date: 02/03/2014

I received a recall notification from bwm a couple of months ago; 'recall campaign no. 13v-564: front passenger air bag seat occupancy sensor mat'. The recall notice said that the parts were not yet available to fix the issue but that they would be shortly and BMW would send out a notice once they were available. My vehicle was experiencing the exact issue described in the recall letter which was 'the air bag warning lamp on the instrument cluster and the front "passenger air bag off" lamp in the overhead console are illuminated at the same time'. I took my car into a service center (center BMW in sherman oaks, CA); they acknowledged the recall and told me to come back in March when the parts would be available. Not only are the parts still unavailable, but the recall notice has been cancelled for some reason. My front passenger seat air bag is still not functioning though. I am forced to have passengers travel in the front seat at times and am very concerned that if an accident happens they will be seriously hurt. Who can I contact to help with this???.

27 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 BMW X5

Failure Date: 11/07/2013

I have a 2006 BMW X5 with the sport sports package and I am experiencing these same problems as described in the recall 02 - id # 13v564000 - air bags recall 03 - id # 13v564000 - air bags:frontal:sensor/control m. I have called BMW of America and tried to get them to honor the recall but they have refused. I was told by customer rep. Britney that BMW have decided that my vehicle was not under that recall and that I would have to pay to get it look at before they would conceder any repairs to be covered under these recalls. I told both reps and also spoke with supervisor jessica that this is uncalled for since it matches the year, make, model and package that is being recalled. I first talked with erik and all he had done was give me a run around that BMW would look into it and that I would need to have it checked out by a BMW service technician. I kept telling them that I was not going to pay for a diagnosis for something that is defective and should be repaired under the recalls, but once again I was told by erik that I have no choice but to pay to have it looked at. I have sent may emails and had many phone calls with BMW America about this issue and I am very unsatisfied with how they are handling this issue. I feel they do not look out for their customers and don't care if this recall hurts or even kills someone. If they truly cared they would have taken in this vehicle and have done the diagnosis to see if it is the problem and have it fixed but as I have experienced with this issue BMW does not care. This is not the company that I remember BMW was standard for excellence and is to be an extremely high standard of high quality cars but when something goes wrong BMW leaves you with nothing and will not honor their mistakes to make it right. Thank you.

28 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 BMW X5

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

Passenger airbag is DE-activated. Passenger seat occupancy sensor is not working. BMW states that my production date is not inclusive of the recall# 13v564000. The recall starts mfg date 12/1/2005 forward for BMW X5 models. BMW customer service stated my date of mfg was 10/25/2005 and they will not cover. I need intervention with this matter. It is more than coincidence that I am having the identical issue as cars mfg less than 35 days after my mfg date. Thank you.
