5 Warning Light On problem of the 2009 BMW X5

Failure Date: 03/02/2019

3-2-19 I brought car to BMW in ft perce, FL for 4 recalls which they did. There was a passenger air bag light on afterwards which they said they would not fix under recall. I had a licensed asc mechanic scan the car and it came up oc3 seat mat fault. I looked up this and there was a campaign April 2009 which specifically states on the 1st page under situation that air bag warning light issue is extended 10 years without mileage limit. I called BMW headquarters 3-25-19 and filed a report, they told me my VIN# wasn't recalled but I said it is for the passenger seat mat that was recalled April 2009 and this should be covered if it is the same problem. They told me they would escalate it. Today, 3-26-19, I received a call from another BMW rep and they said they were working on it but they would probably not cover it due to the age of the car and mileage. I told them, "no,, your April 2009 recall says it was extended 10 years without mileage limit, so it should be covered". This is a safety issue and if other same make, model, year were recalled for the same problem I am having then they need to fix my car at their cost. I need your help in getting this car resolved as I just recently bought it.

Warning light on dash that reads "fault in passenger restraint system affecting airbag, tensioner or belt-force limiter. " BMW dealer (roadshow BMW / memphis) did replace belt tensioner at a cost to me but the error code remains. The passenger seat mat could cause this problem. Has there been a recall on the passenger seat mat? I feel that this is a safety issue dealing with airbags and seatbelts. The BMW dealer in jackson, ms did replace the driver and passenger airbag under a recall but I am still concerned about the safety due to the "system malfunction. . . Fault in passenger-restraint system affecting airbag" warning light on dashboard. This warning message and seatbelt warning light remains when car is in motion. I bought the car on March 17, 2015 (33,000 miles) from my sister who bought the car new from the BMW dealer in nashville, TN. The error message was on the dash at that time. The car now has approx 64,000 miles.

20 Warning Light On problem of the 2001 BMW X5

Failure Date: 03/15/2014

The airbag warning light on the instrument cluster turned on when I had a passenger in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. It would go off after a few start cycles with no passengers, but then come back on the next time a passenger was in the front passenger seat. I was able to read the codes which indirectly indicated a fault in the occupancy sensor mat in the front passenger seat. I replaced the sensor mat and related wiring interface and the warning light and errors have not returned. There are many owners groups that discuss the apparent high failure rate of these occupancy sensor mats and we have noted that more recent X5 models were recalled, but that earlier models were not. I suspect that the earlier models have the same - or a related - problem.

35 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 BMW X5

Failure Date: 10/08/2008

10/8/2008 vehicle airbag warning light. Dealer service center replaced a coil spring in driver side airbag. 6/22/2009 vehicle airbag warning light. Dealer troubleshoot and decided to replace the drivers side airbag 5/11/2011 vehicle airbag warning light. Dealer diagnosed as issue with passenger side seat occupancy sensor. I decided to get another opinion. Airbag warning light remained off for about 60 days after this diagnostic, but no repairs were done. Sept 2011 vehicle airbag warning light. Diagnosed by an independent mechanic as issue with drivers side airbag (code 01) and passenger side seat occupancy (code 70). 2/28/12 vehicle airbag warning light. Diagnosed by dealer service center as slip ring issue on the drivers side and seat occupancy sensor on the passenger side. Declined repairs as I suspected this was a warranty issue, but dealership disagreed. 9/20/12 vehicle airbag warning light. Diagnosed by an independent mechanic as a faulty drivers side airbag and a faulty seat occupancy sensor. Research has shown me that the seat occupancy sensor in the 2006 version of this vehicle is an issue under recall or notice, while this model year (2005) is not. I also am very concerned about the nagging issues with the drivers side airbag that has been repaired twice and diagnosed differently multiple times. The complaint is in two parts. (1) seat occupancy sensor - should be under recall (2) drivers side airbag on this vehicle - dealer never diagnosed or fixed correctly and is still a safety concern. I am not sure if others with this model year have had similar issues.
