Air Bag Not Deploy Problems of BMW Z4

'airbags have never been deployed according to carfax history. I was commuting home, waiting at a stop light, when I heard a very loud pop. At first, I thought something had fallen on to my car because the dash did not explode. Reveraling the airbag. I started to smell smoke coming from the passenger side and noticed that the airbag light was on. I wasn't able to start the car given the battery safety terminal disengaged. I am lucky that the driver side airbag didn't deploy, or even deploy while I was driving.

Takata recall. 2003 BMW Z4 air bags did not deploy nor did seat belts lock when car hit a tracter trailer who suddenly stopped short on the highway. BMW was moving at approx 80 mph when driver hit breaks upon seeing trailer stop short.

Passenger seat occupancy sensor failure. 2006 BMW Z4. Sensor mat failed without stress on the seat. It appears to fail over time. Passenger airbag defaults to off condition. If an accident occurs with a passenger in the car the passenger airbag will not deploy. 2005 and earlier models have been offered a 10 year extended warranty to cover this problem with the same part. No additional warranty has been offered for 2006 models.

Follow up to NHTSA complaint id 10353056. Received letter from BMW that the airbag replacement warranty for my vehicle serial number was extended to 15 years. Received letter on 7/31/18, with 15 year service date expired on 7/11/18. Letter was worthless, as they waited until the 15 year extension had expired by several weeks before sending the notification. The inability of the passenger airbag to inflate in an accident is a serious safety defect that continues to be ignored for my vehicle as well as others reported to the NHTSA. BMW needs to be held liable for any injuries resulting from an airbag failing to deploy in an accident.

Passenger airbag deactivation light always on (since 20,000 miles approx) together with dashboard airbag warning light. Garage diagnosed faulty passenger seat pressure mat and advised passenger airbag would not deploy in the event of an accident. BMW norwell MA, who sold the car to us, stated no recall on 2006 model (conversation with their service dept. Of 10/21/2011) although all Z4s up to 2005 were recalled for mat replacement. BMW were clearly still fitting defective pressure mats in the 2006 models and would appear to be not only jeopardising our safety but also avoiding their responsibilities.
