Electrical power steering system failed, warning light came on. Vehicle suddenly became very difficult to impossible to steer. Failed to negotiate a turn and nearly hit a tree. I have an appointment set with an independent service dealer near me, but I’m afraid to drive it there, so I may have it towed. The warning light came on just moments before the initial failure.

The vehicle had yet to be reparied and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was 52,954.

I have just found out that my 2006 BMW Z4 convertible has serious wiring issues. The wires for example on my front headlights the insulation is falling off the and leaving bare wires. I am very concerned this could be a fire safety issue that could result in bare electrical wires shorting together and starting a car fire. My research shows that many people who have 2006 BMW Z4 convertibles are having this same issue. This seems to be a real issue with BMW using cheap wiring harnesses material and over time due heat and cooling is cause the insulation to fail and resulting in this issue.

I got my car serviced at BMW of tucson in 2022 and they ruined the electrical in my car. Additionally, they might have created another key. I also noticed that my software was downgraded by them and the alarm stopped working correctly.

Reoccuring issue: -door locks not functioning by remote or central button -wipers not functioning -trunk release not functioning by remote or button -windows not functioning -lighting of interior not working, to include gauge cluster -top not functioning issues intensify on days of low/higher temperatures. Seems to reset by disconnecting battery and reconnecting after several minutes. Issues points to gm5 module being faulty/failing this is not discovered until you start the car, seems to be a random occurrence, but happens at least once weekly. Sometimes it is multiple times a day.

I had this car built and I am the only owner and driver. I have had a personal mechanic take meticulous care of it over the years and the car is stored for approximately 6 months/year because I do not drive it in the snow, and frankly, hardly drive it even when raining. However, it never fails that each year some warning light goes on for no apparent reason. Last fall it was the abs light and the brake light. My mechanic put the car on the computer, and found no issues. Now again, this spring it started out as not being on, but within 5- 25 minutes (varies each time when I start the car up and drive) those two lights come on. Every year there seems to be new lights that come on for no apparent reason. I haven't driven the car more than a few times before a light comes on. It's cost me so much in diagnostic time. Also another problem is that often the radio doesn't turn on. When this happens, the screen also does not pop up. I have to stop the car, turn it off and then restart. Most times the electrical system seems to �restart� itself so that the radio turns on and the screen pops up. The electrical system in this car has never been right.

Went to change my headlight bulb and notices all of the wires were bare. The sheathing around the wires have all corroded. This is for the complete headlight assembly. Every single wire has corroded. Seems like a fire hazard.

My battery is in good condition but I can't start the engine. -700km oil service warning light display on my dash. Fuel pump is working. Them open the key like that sound gap gap is come out. . . Pls help me. . .

Gm5 module fail. When the gm5 module fauls windshield wipers won't work (this could be a big problem if it rains!), interior lights won't work, windows won't go up or down, no alarm functions and of course no automatic door lock control (doors can manually be locked and unlocked as long as the double lock is open. ).

Heater/air conditioner stopped blowing. Took to local shop and found multiple wires melted. Concerned due to fire risk so researched and found this is a major issue with many now recalled Bmws-mine is not included in the recalls but it's highly suspicious that I'm having the apparent exact same issue as those vehicles being recalled. I saw white smoke coming from under my hood and smelled a burning odor a few months ago so drove straight home and popped the hood-saw no additional smoke but did smell some residual burning odor but nothing was visible. This happened approximately 2 other times but nothing was ever found and it was assumed it was a spillage or overflow. Wasn't until recently when the heater and a/c stopped blowing that further investigation was done. Thank goodness no fire started. Still scary that we don't know what caused this to happen in the first place and will it happen again especially after it's parked in my attached garage! makes me just want to park it in the driveway away from the house. This really needs to be investigated and look into expanding the current recalls!! seems just too coincidental.

26000 miles on car. Always in garage. Never driven in winter and use a battery tender during winter. Replaced 2 batteries this summer recently after not driving it for about 2-3 weeks. This tells me that there is an electrical problem somewhere but where? it's pulling power from somewhere. Can't be trusted.

Engine unexpectedly stalled and shutdown while in movement with potential to cause accident. Vehicle cannot be turned on until full stop is achieved and transmission placed in "p. " idle engine rpm continues to vary drastically up and down with indication a problem persists and is likely pose the same safety risk. I bought vehicle used on 2012 and had the issue shortly after purchase twice at highway speeds. Dealership took months to apparently resolve. I am back at risk.

The contact stated that while driving at 20 mph, various warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle began to accelerate independently without the accelerator pedal being depressed. The vehicle began to veer side to side and as a result, an oncoming vehicle on the left lane crashed into the contact's rear driver side. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. My car had approximately 65k miles on it when the light on the dashboard indicated an issue. It was manufactured in 08/06. Reading from the computer indicated a passenger occupancy mat failure. BMW extended the warranty for 10 years through model year 05 but won't do anything for 2006. I called BMW USA and escalated it. They called me back and stated it will not be covered. I am concerned that this may prevent the airbag from operating in case of a collision for the passenger. There are many complaints about the 2006 model occupancy mat with this my and I think BMW should be forced to cover this safety hazard. I left my BMW in the sun all day and now my locks wont work. Many resources link this problem to the gm5 which controls the lighting and locks. Bad locks can be a safety and security issue on parked cars but also for moving cars as children may open vehicle doors in traffic.

The central locking system does not work correctly. It operates the glove box, passenger and driver doors as well as gas cap door. It does not respond properly to fob or by key. At times all locks are frozen to the point where you can not open to get in or gas. Right now passenger door has been locked for 30+ days. Cannot open at all. Took to a mechanic who ordered a new actuater from BMW dealer, first one did not work. Second one installed and the problem is not solved. ($240. 00). Mechanic tells me that something is burning and I must take to dealership. I can smell the burning and I am afraid and will not drive. Looked up on internet, there are 100s of consumers with the same issue. This car only has 71,000 miles on it.

Just purchased this car from a private owner. Didn't notice but the passenger side door will not unlock by either using the key fob or the central locking/unlocking switch inside. Did a google search and found that the gm-5 board needs to be replaced. I also heard that this gm-5 can cause failure on other fuctions with the car - wipers, lights etc. The car is 10 years old but only has 36,000 miles on it. This part should not fail so quickly.

Low battery situation over the winter caused the vehicle to slip into "transport mode" where the ac, defroster, and fan speed will not work. This creates a hazardous visibility situation due to the defroster not working. As I understand it, the transport mode is supposed to be disabled when the car is delivered to the us but some dealers mistakenly turn it off rather than disable it. To disable it you must return it to the dealer and pay for a high service visit for a few moments of programming.
