Accelerator gets stuck at fairly high speeds. It is not the mat, but is a mechanical problem. At one point I stopped, and while in park (the engine was racing), examined the engine (I am a mechanical person) and discovered the linkage for the accelerator was working fine. When someone stepped on the gas pedal the throttle mechanism would turn and when they let up on the pedal the mechanism would return to the idle position - but the engine was still racing! this problem is intermittent and has happened several times. . When backing vehicle up with foot on the brake it suddenly took off. Has happened 8 different times. Took to dealer at least 3 times for sudden acceleration. Problem is intermittent & the mechanic could not locate the cause each time.

4 Speed Control Linkage problem of the 1999 Buick Century

Failure Date: 10/18/1999

While pulling into a parking space, vehicle suddenly accelerated and hit the side of sears building. Driver sustained minor bruises, and cover from passenger's side caused front windshield to crack. Dealer / manufacturer notified.

5 Speed Control Linkage problem of the 1996 Buick Century

When traveling at any speed with foot pressed on the brake pedal, vehicle continued to accelerate, causing unwanted speed. Also, in order to stop the vehicle, the key has to be removed from the ignition. Consumer has contacted dealer, dealer has yet to determine the cause of the problem.
