Power steering pump wear condition received a recall notice from Buick September 2014 in regards to a power steering pump wear condition, but the letter advised not to take to the dealer for repair until it was an issue. The letter did not state specifics as to how an individual would know that there was an issue but while taking the vehicle to holzhauer motors in cherokee, IA (authorized dealer) on June 17, 2015 for service (lube & filter change) I mentioned to the service advisor that when I turned my steering wheel there was a whining sound. I was later contacted by the service advisor stating that the power steering pump needed to be replaced and the cost of replacing the actual pump and labor was covered under said warranty. The service advisor also informed me that the rack and pinion also needed to be replaced. The service advisor clearly stated that the reason the rack and pinion needed replacing was because the power steering pump had gone out, but the parts and labor to replace the rack and pinion was not covered under the power steering pump warranty, even though that it what caused the rack and pinion to fail.
My vehicle is 4 years old 58,000 miles, started feeling resistance when turning and an screeching sound. The rack and pinion need to be replaced at a cost of $1500. 00. Found out this is not under warrantee even though there are over 100 complaints. Where does a single mother of 2 get the money to replace something that seems to be fault of the manufacturer. The GMC dealer will not assist in a price reduction, if this is not replace the car can stall when attempting to turn and cause an accident, or fatality.

We purchased this model in March 2013 and the rack and pinion had already been replaced at an unknown time before we bought it. Now I am having a zip zip/rubbing sound in the steering wheel when I turn left or right. I am also having to turn my wheel more and more to make a turn, left or right. The dealership said I needed a new steering column because the bushing are worn and you can not just replace them alone. This is an on going issue with many Enclaves for various years from what I understand. This issue needs to be addressed.
We were on a long trip from wa. State to el centro, CA. Approximately 100 + miles from el centro, when we were slowing to go into a service station, I noticed I had no power steering and had to manually steer it which was very difficult. I tried to put some ps fluid in it, but couldn't get the engine cover off to find the ps holder, so had to drive on into el centro and locate a dealership there. They checked it and informed us that a new rack & pinion unit, etc. Was needed at that time. Our extended warranty was out at that time, so it cost us approx. $2,000 + to get it repaired and then the wheels balanced, etc. We could have had a crash at high speeds prior to having it checked as we were on a long trip. We did get it fixed as as we could though which necessitated us waiting around the dealership for several hours while they fixed the problem. We con-tacted our dealership in our home town, but could or would not do anything because our warranty had just rain out.

Power steering has an awful grinding/whining noise and car gets hard to steer. This is a known issue from gm and they expect the customer to pay for the repairs. 2000 miles over their warranty. They also state my rack and pinion needs replaced, which is another known issue. Not covered under the drive train warranty is absurd. When will the customer benefit? they get bailed out and this is how they repay us. Investigate these issue. 52,000 miles and I've been in the shop 6 times. Power steering, air bags, seat belt issues, water pump, sheered frame bolt, dead battery. The car is 3 years old for goodness sake please investigate these repeated issues!!.
2010 Buick Enclave. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle power steering problems. The consumer stated the power steering began exhibiting problems when making smooth left or right turns. The problem was not continuous, only sporadic, but lately with increasing intervals. It appeared the power steering would lose power when making turns at low to minimal speed. At times, it would become impossible to turn, having lost power until the rpm's were increased. The consumer stated the dealer had the vehicle for two days, but were unable to detect any visible problems with the steering. The dealer was then advised to drain and flush the power steering fluid and re-test it. The line pressures and flush were completed, but they were unable to attach test components due to the location on the engine. They did agree, however, that they were able to detect the same problem with the steering during test drives, the consumer experienced. The dealer suggested replacing the power steering pump and the rack and pinion, but they could not guarantee it would solve the problem. On March 29, 2013, the steering locked up as the consumer was exiting a parking lot, attempting to turn left. The vehicle veered across the road, up onto the sidewalk, and continued in a left turn back onto the road before the steering released.
The power steering pump has already gone bad. Apparently, this is a wide-spread problem as a simple google search turned up many people with 2009/2010 Enclaves that have had to replace their power steering pump between 50k and 75k miles. Many other complaints have actually had the rack and pinon steering needed replaced as a result of the same problem. (bad pump caused damage to other parts). The dealership cannot ascertain at this time whether my vehicle needs new rack and pinion steering yet until they replace the pump first.
Rack and pinion needed to be replaced control arm needed to be replaced steering bushing needed to be replaced.
