Over260 complaints no deaths. . . 1 injury air bag deployed when getting into car. Some took to dealer (most did). . They say its a sensor. . . $1300 to fix. The air bag malfunction warning light blinks and then remains on when the ignition is turned on and when driving regardless of speed. This condition has resulted in the replacing of the relevant part twice since I purchased this vehicle in 2009 once under warranty and once out of warranty. This recurring problem compromises the operation of the air bags in the event of an accident. The air bags in this vehicle have never been deployed since it has been accident free since purchased new.

Red airbag warning light appears intermittently. Dealer identified a problem with the sensor in the passenger seat and replaced the part. The same problem has since reappeared. The light will turn off when the passenger slides the seat back and forth or unfastens and refastens the seat belt. This problem can occur at any time and does not require the vehicle to be in motion nor the presence of a passenger. The problem is more likely to occur in warmer weather.

I've taken my car to the dealer five times in the four years I've owned the car, and the first four times, the dealer fixed it at no charge. This time, the dealer says it "has gone all the way down to the passenger detection module and it will cost you $1250 to fix it. " a passenger detection modules sounds rather important to me, and very much a safety issue, but the service manager said that if there's no recall, it's customer pay. With the number of complaints made on this site for this identical issue, I'd say it's highly likely that there are many more cars with the same problem, but their owners just don't know about this site. Is it necessary for a certain number of complaints before an investigation is made? I guess my husband will just have to trust his luck - he's the one generally sitting in the passenger seat!!.
